I've read this book or listened to the audio about 10 times now. If you're interested at all in direct response copywriting, you owe it to yourself to get this book. People more interested in brand centered ad campaigns may or may not find this book helpful as he distrusts branding as a method for sales. Carlton is interested in results that can be measured easily because he recommends trying to make deals where you're paid something like 5% of gross sales return or increase in profits.

This is one of the best books on copywriting available. Carlton covers the basics of what you need to know and offers some incredible hints on how to write a great ad. I like it much more than Tested Advertising Methods That Sell or Scientific Advertising, etc. Carlton and Halbert (another you should read if you like/are interested in this book) write with a punchy, fun to read or listen to style.

For those of you who are interested in how to market effectively. You'll probably like this book. The way John Carlton explains his concept is a simple yet powerful way of understanding direct response marketing and advertising. He'll explain to you human psychology and salesmanship (why people buy). He'll show you how to write kickass headlines that'll turn heads.

Okay, I've just read John's copywriting book. I've only been introduced to the concept of copywriting within the last 12 months, so knowledge is still shallow.

So if you're new to persuasive writing yourself, this review should be quite relevant in your case.

In short, is this book worth the price tag? Since it's not sold on Amazon as a regular book, it's priced at around $100. And In my humble opinion, compared to what's available on the marketplace for less, this book is less desirable for anyone who's just starting out (in my opinion.)

That's not to say anything negative about how John is writing, because I actually love the way he writes. It's always enjoyable and he never bores you, which is copywriting 101. Don't be boring!

Another thing is that this book isn't fully up-to-date and it goes on about direct mail that I personally didn't find relevant, but you may.

Besides the hick up, this book serves its purpose and does provide you with practical advice on how to create advertising that will make you money. As with all these copywriting books, they're usually super practical and it can be easy to just read one and then move on to the next book without much thought.

So this is also a reminder to myself not to just read a book, especially a copywriting book, without implementing something immediately because we tend to forget most of what we read when it comes to these kinds of books.

And always take good notes. Extract what you feel can be used in your own business. And good luck in your own journey.

So much wisdom for just a book, it’s like a seminar in a book. Even while slightly dated - but true copywriting gold is never obsolete, which this book is filled with - copywriting gold.

The book was also genuinely entertaining and enjoyable to read - did not feel like the typical bore or bland feeling associated with learning something like a skill - yet it managed to deliver it’s important nuggets of information without missing a trick - the last few chapters where the author gives his perspective about life and money were fascinating and insightful too

A must read for any copywriter and more!
