in this book, you will learn that a dog is not a potato. or a cheese. if you are just learning this now, i suggest you read more books in general; you are lacking some basic knowledge. but i love this book for its sheer ridiculous velocity. doggy dog!

This is a great book for your beginning readers. It's such an easy read. The kids will enjoy this little book. It will fit into their little hands perfectly. It's easy to relate this book and make real life connections.

This book reminds me of Not a Box by Antoinette Portis. That book was about all the things a box could be, while this one is about all the things a dog is not. This book can be used to compare and contrast a dog with other things. It is great for working on critical thinking skills.

Oh my goodness I am in LOVE with this book! I don't think I would have loved it nearly as much if it hadn't been read to me by my professor. Such a cute book!!!!

This is a super sweet book. I really enjoyed participating in a read alound using this book. After doing so, I completely realized that this is ONE book that you MUST be enthusiastic about (or it just won't be the same). I would use this book to allow children to think of their own comparisons to the dog (ex: "you are not a...") and make a list of their responses. I think that the addition of a finger puppet, or full size puppet makes the story that much cuter! The kids are sure to enjoy this one!

This is a fun book and the way that it was read to me was even more funny but asidde from this is a great way to get students to identify different items that they will come across, they can distinguish the difference between a dog and other items. An activity you could have students do would be to identify who they are it is important for students to form an opinion about themselves at an early age (a positive image), students write and iluustrate things that they are and are not.

I love the use of comparisons in this book. This is a great book to read to very young children who are learning about objects in the world. This book is so humerous, it will keep them anticipating what is coming next. This book is great to use with inflections and voice changes, it brings the book to life. This is a must read for all children.

Doggy Dog is kinda simple picture book with simple illustration and short sentences. It can really go with children even when they grow up. Because it really goes with me now when I see dogs, I would go "Doggy Dog." Children can play with sounds using other animals names and objects, such as penny pen, booky book, cuppy cup, catty cat, cowey cow, chicky chick, etc.

This book is another really fun and simple book. Just like the "Snaily Snail" book it would be great to use a little toy dog prop with this one. My teacher shared this book with us in that way and it was hilarious!! It is all in the way that you share this story with the little ones that will determine how much the children really love it!

Doggy Dog is a dog, not any of the other silly things shown in the book (i.e. a lampshade, a foot stool, a cat etc). So cute, very simple (fun illustration paired with simple text), great for sharing with the toddler crowd. Love this series of books, they crack me up!

Like Professor Meyers,I would use a dog puppet when reading this story allowed to students, and ask them to repeat the silly sentences along with me. Again, this could be a use as a transiting technique from one activity to another.

This is a really cute book. It can be a great read aloud but you will have to be quite animated to make it work. I think it would be fun to see what kids will come up with to say what doggy dog is not.

This is a cute book about a dog and all of the things that a dog is not - it helps children to become aware of the differences between images on a page, particularly when they have some abstract elements. Best for a 1-on-1 read with children under the age of 3.

Silly, told in a minimalistic style that I absolutely loved. Um...why should we be confused whether the dog is a piece of cheese? (though I've confused mine often with a footstool). Cute and lively and fun to read.

Both Doggy Dog and Sluggy Slug are fun books for little ones...but are the most fun when seen performed by Mr. Raschka himself!

Doggie Dog is just plain SAD. . . . but not as bad as the poor slug.

I liked this book because it was nice and simple. I also liked how my teacher Dr. Meyers read this story in a deep silly voice. I will definitely be reading this book to my students.

Silly and simple! I wish I had a bookshelf to fit this on, because I would not want to forget about it. Great little book filled with sight words (are, not, you) and just funny. Love it.

This book is definitely geared towards younger learners as the word choices are a lot more simpler. Doggie Dog is a fun, energetic book where younger learners can laugh, and enjoy all of the things that Doggie Dog is not. In response to this read aloud, students can choose their own animal and decide what they want to compare it to. This book also allows students to think about their own experiences with their pets at home as well
