Have you ever read a book that was just so bad but you couldn't stop reading it? That was this book for me. It should have been labeled as a soap opera.
It started out okay and kept my interest. I thought "this is going to be good".
Then it took a turn into cheesville. It became melodramatic and over the top campy. From one brother knowing who his mate is for years but sleeping with the enemy for information to the mustache twirling villain who thought SHE was going to kill off Tal and become the queen.
It was like a train wreck. But heaven help me...I couldn't look away..or in this case stop reading. I had to know how this all played out. And of course in a matter of a few pages it's all wrapped up in a neat bow.
Unfortunately...or maybe fortunately...there are no more in this series. This was written in 2014 and the author seems to have moved on to MF for now. Oh well...it's probably for the best. I've wasted enough time on campy shit.

Mpreg?! Woohoo!!!
Eugenics. Humans are bad and in centuries past were bred into other races, their DNA appropriated and altered.
When a new fear rises: One who can breed pure human again.
Great premise. Love all the political and social consequences brought up by this construct, but the execution was less than stellar. Clumsy world building that has identifiable things, but seemingly out of place. Four hundred years into the future and vanilla ice cream and KinNook-- I'd be surprised if there's a Kindle or Nook or a merged one in fifty years. The cognates aren't endearing.
The character names killed me: Prince Buckington Roughshire, his brother Blazell, and his mate Talon.
Pop culture tie ins weren't a win for me either. But, that's me and it's a pet peeve so other readers might well enjoy a chortle or not care. Verbose storytelling with a lot of things explained hindered the pace. The prologue is 12% of the book. Way too much exposition to lay down the background rather than having the story tell us during the events.
Florid descriptions of rooms, clothing, etc. was another thing that didn't appeal to me and seemed old-fashioned or a space filler. Head-hopping mid paragraph was another obstacle. I'm all for D/s, but it's not discipline if "you don't have to do it". Just kinky.
Finally, telling an event that happened right after Tal mated Blaze rather than showing it detracted from the action along with the interruptions mid scene for an explanation about why something's there or what the character should be doing in the future. There was an awkwardness to the writing, as if there was a constant use of omniscience for continuity checking.
I was really glad to see the Cheat Sheet at the beginning to lay out the various entities and and index for words. In an ebook it is really important to have them in the front so we the readers know they are there. I've read other books that left them for the end, but by then it was too late to be of use.
Overall, fun sci-fi adventure with awkward execution.

Loved the detailed world-building but could have used a glossary for the extensive cast of characters/species ;) Blaze and Talon were a fantastic couple and so hot together. It was fun to see the sparks fly between the growly possessive Alpha King and his cheeky pregnant Alpha Queen. The numerous subplots and co-conspiracies held my attention until the very end, and the danger is still far from over. I'm very anxious to see how some of these storylines will be resolved. Particularly with Buck and Percy. And Talon's two younger brothers. I can just imagine the heart-breaking angst that will be revealed and can't wait!

It's not bad, but it gets too explicative. I mean, the world creation seems to have a lot of work put in it, but the info-dump makes my eyes want to slide away from the page.
The prologue wasn't bad, actually - quite prosaic - but later on, it gets really...pedantic.
Blah, blah, blah. Pages and pages of regurgitation of the concept the author came up with for the world, then this:

Argh. Idk if it's the execution or what but everything seems to have been fabricated for the sake of an mpreg end. It doesn't seem...natural, organic. It's oddly stilted. It makes me want to Hulk-smash in frustration because THIS COULD BE SOOO GOOD. THERE'S SO MUCH ANGST-FODDER AND STUFF.
And the name GPA just brings back horrible memories. I mean, seriously? Naming a galactical alliance after grade point averages? Fuck you, too.

I don't care about being lectured by proxy. It's like Dora moments everywhere. The characters are saying stuff, but they are too aware of the see-through fourth wall and so are actually speaking to the audience. Awkward, awkward, awkward.

And what is up with the capitalization of "son"? Is he actually Jesus? I can't think of any other reason (being diplomatic and assuming the author just doesn't know how to capitalize) for this Tal (lol totally forgot his name for a while) would be "Son"...

I also think this Tal dude is waaaay TSTL. I mean, his race is hunted and he just goes around handing out his name? A purported galatically famous name?

Honestly? I think I'm only still reading this because apparently the dude'll legit grow a womb. I mean, I don't even care about the impending sex much except as a vehicle of said womb-growing.

Why do I feel like the author spelled this Elder Bryce's last name differently this time?

Commas are necessary to offset names.
Oh, man. The plot's all over the place. It has its moments when it works, but it seems more like a series of decent disparate scenes.
*sigh. This is sooo close to that place where it's so wrong it's right. Where it's so absolutely riduculous and wtf that it's a bunch of froofy fun.
I still don't quite get why the MC+LI got together. It just...happened.
I am appalled by the lack of trauma with le bros. I mean, come on. Sheesh. That is the height of non-realism.
Paul doesn't get to die right before the Armistice because he's ruined for civilian life and these people - who were farther traumatized far earlier - get to just be normal and stuff.
Also, these kids get the Most Fuckable award. Even that Alpha King (pha-king) is attracted to them. Very highly attracted to them.

I'm also disappointed to say that I don't really think he actually grew a womb. And they opted for the Eresse-Ylandre method of male birth.

I know there will be people that don't agree with my rating, but it is my opinion. So I loved the story. Talon was so alone without even knowing it. Blaze knew but was waiting for the one meant for him. The two fall in love quickly but that is ok since this is a paranormal story and goes with the overall plot. There is male pregnancy in this story but I liked how the author did it. I am anxious to read more in the series since there are several storylines free and would love to see those people happy and settled too. Yes, I'm a bit of a romantic but I love to see everyone find love and happiness.

Promiscuous behaviour of MC before meeting with his mate was a big down for me. Especially considering his fear to get pregnant - I felt like his behaviour was out of his character.

Too many names starting from V, without much meaning behind to memorize, annoyed me to no end. It was like V who? for me many times, reading e-book makes it more dificult to go back for reference . (There is more letters in the alphabet why to not use it?)

I am no reviewer but I just hadta say……5 Stars, 5 Hearts…and a 10 on the jo scale:
OMG! The 2nd version is soooo much better, but be prepared to cry within the first few pages….Buck just broke my heart….I cannot wait for his and Percy’s story. I believe that The Alpha King has taken the place as my favorite all time book….I was leaning that way with the 1st edition but just felt that something more was needed….Wow!!! did I get my wish….READ THIS BOOK!!! Tal and Blaze are a great couple. They love, they fight and they make up in the most wonderful ways. When you read this book don't be surprise that you will find yourself crying, laughing, crying some more, laugh alot more, cheering, getting so mad at the baddies and then you will cry because it is over and all you want is for the book to go on and on and then to read the next book IMMEDIATELY!!! *sigh* I luv and adore this book…..and Vicktor Alexander is my new Favorite Author!!!!! I just cannot get enough of his writing. hugs to Vicktor darlin! Congrats on the new release and on the brilliant additions… luv, hugs and smooches from your fan, jo

The cover looks really nice . If only the story was more focus on the main characters. But what bothered me the most is the language itself. The use of pet names like "baby" and curses like "shit" seems to make it feel that it is in the "recent timeline " and it just dont fit the intergalactic futuristic setting for me, presumably humans beings were nearly wiped extinct and has " evolved" . This has the elements of a book that I usually like,scifi apocalyptic , mpreg , but unfortunately the dialogues itself was just a disappointment for me. 2.5 star.

May 8, 2013Photoshop mega fail: the body in the background is too big for the tiny head cropped into it. Makes it look like the guy has a pair of huge tits (especially thumbnail size) and with the proportions of the head to body so bad the cover is really off putting for me.
Add in the other guys duck face ... Wow (duck face on thumbnail size. Bigger picture he is actually cute and has pretty lips. Unfortunately I see thumbnails online not the blown up pictures)

Heartbreaking, humorous, ridiculous, male pregnancy, and a great pecking order book. I just loved it!

When I first read the blurb, I was thinking "Here we go again!" but just plowed on through knowing, from past readings, that Vicktor Alexander had never disappointed, and he did not.
The Alpha King was unexpected. The first few chapters broke my heart when reading about Talon's parents and how he lost his memories. The great thing is that Alexander did not dwell too much on this heart ache and instead gave us a stronger, if not quirky, Talon. One who had funny ideas about how to live his life and his sexcapades. It was a great thought that he gets a loving adoptive family.
The plot turned to the humorously ridiculous when he finds out about his biology and when he crashes and survives and ends up meeting his alpha king, getting to be called the Alpha Queen and eventually, just like any queen, makes sure his man gets the right idea that the queen is always the queen first and the man second. Regardless of fact that both of them were male.
Okay, I think I just confused myself.
So moving on, The Alpha King is a funny book that made me smile and laugh. I especially loved the parts (ridiculous as they may be) when Tal goes through pregnancy blues, hungers, pains, bloating, and labor. I especially liked it when he strangles Blaze in the midst of giving birth.
So yes, this is a ridiculously funny, wonderful fairy tale, shape-shifting mpreg book that is hard to put down. Writing this, I am still laughing over some of Tal's antics and mental ravings.
The best thing about this ebook is that this is just a glimpse of what is surely going to be a popular and well loved series. Just like Vicktor Alexander's other series that also involve male pregnancy (The Wilgrin Chronicles). We all get a glimpse of the future characters like Tal's two younger brothers, his future son-in-law and more. I just hope that the author does not take too long and make us wait.

The plot turned to the humorously ridiculous when he finds out about his biology and when he crashes and survives and ends up meeting his alpha king, getting to be called the Alpha Queen and eventually, just like any queen, makes sure his man gets the right idea that the queen is always the queen first and the man second. Regardless of fact that both of them were male.
Okay, I think I just confused myself.
So moving on, The Alpha King is a funny book that made me smile and laugh. I especially loved the parts (ridiculous as they may be) when Tal goes through pregnancy blues, hungers, pains, bloating, and labor. I especially liked it when he strangles Blaze in the midst of giving birth.
So yes, this is a ridiculously funny, wonderful fairy tale, shape-shifting mpreg book that is hard to put down. Writing this, I am still laughing over some of Tal's antics and mental ravings.
The best thing about this ebook is that this is just a glimpse of what is surely going to be a popular and well loved series. Just like Vicktor Alexander's other series that also involve male pregnancy (The Wilgrin Chronicles). We all get a glimpse of the future characters like Tal's two younger brothers, his future son-in-law and more. I just hope that the author does not take too long and make us wait.

I don't write many reviews for books that I have enjoyed reading but I had to write a review about this book.
I LOVED THIS BOOK. I loved everything about this book. Vic did an excellent job with Tal and Blaze. I laughed, cried and got so angry at Bryce and his "fated mate" when they kidnapped Tal. They got theirs in the end though.
Tal and Blaze are my favorite characters in the story but now I can't wait for Buck and Percy to get their story. I know that once they get together it will be explosive.
This book deserves all 5 stars I just wished I could have given it more. This book will be one that I will re-read again and again.

Haven't decided if this should be 2.5 or 3 stars? or....
I felt like I was thrown into a world that was barely explained to me in the prologue. Then we are 'introduced' to one particular humanoid species that starts with 'V' and communes with plants and animals. From there we are told about a 'prophesy' from this species bringing back what sounded like to me pure humanoids (which by the end of the book I didn't see.. but mayhap I misinterpreted it)
This is to be brought about by 3 brothers whose last name is..low and behold! Starts with a 'V'!!! It took me quite a while to figure out when referring to the species vs. this family of boys.
Moving past that.. once the oldest, Tal crashes and meets his mate.. Their first coupling (horny bastards through the book) made me want to hurl the book at the author! Big, long, and wide measured body parts fitting into small barely stretched holes with what is described as JUST spit does NOT DO IT! Is not EVEN REMOTELY SEXY! Surprisingly I forged ahead but not sure why. Another reviewer mentioned a glossary.. I would have to AGREE since there were several words thrown about, some explained better than others.. but just felt poorly done to me. Have all these weird things and rules from alien worlds that the reader has to struggle to comprehend, I'm surprised the characters didn't have the same problem.
After I start comprehending some of this, I did start getting into it and want to know what was coming next.. Now that I've reached the end of the book, A mating, pregnancy, rescue brothers, and 5 babies later...While there are some couples I'd like to see come together or complete their bonding.. I just don't think I can handle another book from this series and author. I'm a HUGE alien/sci-fi mm romance fan but I just didn't get into it enough to continue.
Plus the editing wasn't a total bust but I have to stop and think, DID someone actually edit this to fix small and stupid mistakes? Did you actually READ it or use a spell check? The simple lack of the word 'TO' in some places... while you understand what's said it's kind of annoying.. but not the worst I've seen.

As a youth Talon Versuthion admired the Vermithian humanoids for their beauty and grace. When his adopted parents inform him that he is also Vermithian it's difficult for him to accept. Talon doesn't see himself as being a person of value, but as one that is easily left behind. Rather than risk being hurt again, Talon takes precautions to assure that he never finds his mate, even if that means denying the loneliness in his own heart.
If it wasn't for the beautiful man who haunts his dreams, Blazell Roughshire would have given up on the dream of finding his mate long ago. Without the other half of his soul, Blaze's wolf is restless and as King of the Tumaron people, he is under pressure to mate and assure heirs to the crown are born.
When Blaze and Talon meet for the first time their bodies cry mate, but their minds and hearts are a little harder to win over; especially Talon's. Having been raised in cultures with vastly different customs, their smoldering sexual chemistry isn't enough to prevent misunderstandings from occurring.
I did not read the first edition of this book but found the second edition to be well written and edited. The pacing felt a bit rushed at times, a lot of time was spent describing the complex and detailed world this series features, and detail made the emotional development between the characters feel a bit flat at times. Fortunately, thorough world building often benefits later books in the series as the groundwork as already been established.
THE ALPHA KING tells Blaze and Talon's story to completion but also features characters that will be the focus of upcoming books. With a secondary plot line that hints at upcoming intrigue, suspense and betrayal, THE ALPHA KING is a complete love story nestled inside a broader series concept that is just beginning to emerge. I thoroughly enjoyed this unique story and am looking forward to future installments.

Talon Versuthion has not had an easy life. He lost his parents at an early age and cannot remember them. He was adopted into a happy home but later learned he was a member of the hated Vermithian race. Then he and his sister crash land on Tumaro, a wolf-shifter planet. The premise behind the series in this opener is an interesting one, set in off-planet Shifter worlds post-annihilation of earth and the pure human race. There are a few humanoid races, some, such as the Vermithians, able to mate and procreate with any race and any gender of any race. Prophecy says the focus family of the story will be the instigator for the return of a pure human race. Prior to its destruction, humanity was widely viewed to be a race of arrogant, short-sighted beings and so the idea of their eventual return is not an entirely popular one among the remaining worlds. And while covert efforts were made to eradicate this Vermithian family specifically, they were unsuccessful, though the young children of the family were scattered and not fully aware of their identity or prophesized importance.
In The Alpha King, our now adult and adrenaline junkie Vermithian hero named Talon, is purported to be the one who will conceive and bear the first offspring that will regenerate the human population, all unbeknownst to him. He barely remembers his murdered parents and is completely unaware of his true racial heritage. He knows he is gay, and in a universe of varying tolerance for homosexuality, it comes as a great shock to him that he can also conceive and bear children. His solution is to eschew relationships and to remain emotionally distant in his encounters.
Enter our Alpha Hero, the Alpha King, Blazell Roughshire…
Blaze is the Alpha King of the Wolf Shifter race, and on a fated day during an ill-fated delivery run, Talon crash lands on Blaze’s planet. The King recognizes his mate in Talon, and mates are both fated and for life. In a dizzying case of insta-love disguised as lust, the deed is done, the mating confirmed and suffice to say The King’s gun does not contain any blanks. Talon is carrying the children of the King and despite a consummated and certified mating, the evil that would see not only the offspring removed but the King himself, continues its intended coup plans.
There is plenty of world, and intrigue, and a bevy of characters to bring this series to life, but I did have a few concerns with how ‘The Alpha King’ began the unveiling.
This is a complex universe with multiple races having multiple belief systems. The foundation-setting of this story line is crucial to a world that translates seamlessly from book to book. I found myself on several occasions, having to stop and think which race I was reading about and how their particular belief system impacted the scene in the immediate sense as well as the longer course of the storyline. I found it disorienting initially, though I did have “the hang” of it by about mid book, and the sense of disruption disappeared. I do have some concerns about reestablishing the background in the next book.
Talon and Blaze did not really gel for me as a couple until almost the end of the book. I realize they were both confused and unable to believe their feelings were true given the speed with which they happened, but the sense of an emotional pull such confusion should result in, never really manifest for me. I struggled at times, for a feeling of where they were as a pair. In fact, the glue that held the story together was not the two main characters, but the secondary ones. While disappointing to me in this particular story (because I am all about the relationship) I do believe there was a purpose to this course of events, and much of that purpose is probably yet to be revealed. In addition, I believe there are some deeper, more gripping relationship courses to be told, none with more potential than that of Buck and Percy in the next installment entitled The Beta Prince.
I think there is a good series in here, and I hope with what I saw as deeper characters having more gripping life-stories to tell and a clear, solid world building effort, the meat of the series is yet to come.

Generations ago, the population of Earth died off suddenly and the alien humanoids only stepped in to help when only a few hundred humans were left. The humanoids hated the humans, although I’m not exactly sure why. The only way the humanoids agreed to save the remaining humans was that those humans were to be taken to other planets and force bred with the other humanoid species. Many died in the transition, and no full humans now exist. There is a prophecy though that the Versuthion family will give rise to a new race of full humans. This is not looked at as a positive thing by many of the species.
Talon Versuthion doesn’t remember the incident that starts this story. He was six when his parents were murdered and his little brothers were abducted and sold as slaves. He also doesn’t remember that he can talk to plants and animals, who are also sentient, but only able to talk to a few humanoids, specifically a species known as the Vermithians. After the incident where his family was taken from him, his pet plant (or was he the plant’s pet humanoid?) took a bunch of his memories away with plans to return them when Tal was ready. The plants and animals know he is destined for greatness, but that he isn’t ready yet.
When Tal is about fourteen, his adopted parents break the news to him that he is a Vermithian, and that in addition to talking to plants and animals that Vermithians can only get pregnant from/with their true mate. The bad news? Both males and females can get pregnant, and since Tal is gay, he is destined to become pregnant at some point. What fourteen year old boy wouldn’t be a little freaked out with that news?
We then jump ahead to Tal and his adopted sister Josie crash landing on the planet Tumaro, home of the Alpha King and a species of humanoid/wolf shape shifters. Great news, not only does Tal survive the crash, it turns out his mate is not only on the planet, but is the Alpha King himself, Blazell Roughshire.
Before we know it they’ve mated and poor little Tal is pregnant! With 5 babies! Will they be puppies? He doesn’t know and is afraid to ask!
Throughout the book we have a sinister plot by some evil folks intent on ensuring that full humanity never return to the galaxy. They are the ones who killed Tal’s parents and sold his brothers. This plot is aided by another plot on the planet Tumaro itself to seize power from Blazell and the Roughshire family.
I’m not going to give any more spoilers, but I will say that I probably would have rated this book a 4.5 instead of a 4.0 except for a couple things. Specifically, what happened to the plant, and what happened to the dog Tal adopted that triggered his memory of being able to speak to animals? I dislike things that disappear from the story, but I’ve got to tell you that overall I really liked this book! I can’t wait for the next book to come out! I need to know what happens next, as I’m sure everyone who picks up the book will as well! If you’re a sci-fi/fantasy geek like me, I recommend you get this book today.

I have read this author before. I liked his paranormal elements as well as his unique way of writing in the LGBT genre. His world view is very enlightened. I like that. So when I saw a book by him that not only have the paranormal element but was set in a sci-fi world, well I just had to read it. I was not disappointed.
I was treated to a delightful world – well universe really – of species of every type. The wolf was featured, but there were lions, bears and snakes – oh my! But there were humanoids as well. The humanoids were actually the most interesting species. They are three different kinds of humanoid, each being a hybrid descendant of the species we know here.
You see, in this universe, earth has succumbed the human abuse. It rebelled. The human’s died. I love how the author had the humans die this way. However, I was not clear on how many of the humans survived. In one place there was a finite number given – “three hundred,” and in another place “several hundred” were seeded throughout the universe. My math isn’t very good but, I have always thought of several being more than three. Minor detail that bugged me a bit, but didn’t spoil the story.
Talon, one of the featured characters, was one of the humanoid hybrid species. A very special one. An almost super human one, the Vermithian. They can heal themselves, and others, making it difficult to kill them. They can communicate with plants and animals. Talon had a “pet” plant since he was a very young child, which holds his memories of his earliest years. That was a most interesting thread that kind of got left dangling.
The other interesting thing about this particular humanoid hybrid species is their ability to breed. Either sex can do it. Male or female. It was very entertaining having Talon go through pregnancy, labor, and then birth. *grin* This, dear reader, you really have to read for yourself to enjoy it.
Oh but I should probably mention the Alpha King. The book is named for him. He is a wolf shifter and as the title implies, not only the alpha wolf, but king of his planet. Consequently, he is rather autocratic. I think it is in the job description or something. *grin* Finding his mate Talon mellows him out – a lot! I liked this rough around the edges character. Once he and his wolf found their mate, *sigh* his possessiveness and protectiveness could have been overwhelming, but Talon had no problem keeping him in line. I really enjoyed the dynamic between these two very hot characters.
The secondary characters were also fun and entertaining. Even the evil Anglania in a sadistic sort of way. The story moved along at a nice pace with plenty of action and suspense in between the hot bedroom scenes. Being destined bonded mates, Tal and Blaze did have a hard time keeping their hands off each other, so having a decent story going on too, very nice.
According to one of the epilogues (there were three) there is a sequel coming out. It will be about the Alpha Kings brother, Buck. I will be watching for it.

You see, in this universe, earth has succumbed the human abuse. It rebelled. The human’s died. I love how the author had the humans die this way. However, I was not clear on how many of the humans survived. In one place there was a finite number given – “three hundred,” and in another place “several hundred” were seeded throughout the universe. My math isn’t very good but, I have always thought of several being more than three. Minor detail that bugged me a bit, but didn’t spoil the story.
Talon, one of the featured characters, was one of the humanoid hybrid species. A very special one. An almost super human one, the Vermithian. They can heal themselves, and others, making it difficult to kill them. They can communicate with plants and animals. Talon had a “pet” plant since he was a very young child, which holds his memories of his earliest years. That was a most interesting thread that kind of got left dangling.
The other interesting thing about this particular humanoid hybrid species is their ability to breed. Either sex can do it. Male or female. It was very entertaining having Talon go through pregnancy, labor, and then birth. *grin* This, dear reader, you really have to read for yourself to enjoy it.
Oh but I should probably mention the Alpha King. The book is named for him. He is a wolf shifter and as the title implies, not only the alpha wolf, but king of his planet. Consequently, he is rather autocratic. I think it is in the job description or something. *grin* Finding his mate Talon mellows him out – a lot! I liked this rough around the edges character. Once he and his wolf found their mate, *sigh* his possessiveness and protectiveness could have been overwhelming, but Talon had no problem keeping him in line. I really enjoyed the dynamic between these two very hot characters.
The secondary characters were also fun and entertaining. Even the evil Anglania in a sadistic sort of way. The story moved along at a nice pace with plenty of action and suspense in between the hot bedroom scenes. Being destined bonded mates, Tal and Blaze did have a hard time keeping their hands off each other, so having a decent story going on too, very nice.
According to one of the epilogues (there were three) there is a sequel coming out. It will be about the Alpha Kings brother, Buck. I will be watching for it.

Talon can’t remember anything from before his parents disappeared, his adoptive parents have told him everything he knows about being Vermithian and he has sworn to never find his mate for the very real fear of pregnancy. On a routine delivery with his adopted sister they are thrown across the universe during a storm, crash landing on Tumaro is the least of Talon’s worry when he awakens and can’t find his sister and is confronted with his mate, Blaze. Blaze is overjoyed to finally have his mate, discovering his mate is also Vermithian is a blessing. Having their mating blessed by The One makes everyone happy, but there are a few who decide that they must go and they face a conspiracy that is centuries’ old, Blaze also has to look for Talon’s brothers and rescue them, brothers that Talon has no knowledge of.
This is a great science fiction story, weaving together an interesting view on what the human race could become. Blaze is the wolf shifter Alpha King, it was prophesied that an Alpha King would mate a Vermithian and change Tumaro forever. Talon has a target on his head, someone high up in government wants him and his family wiped out, crash landing on Tumaro leads him to the man that he is destined for, a mate he doesn’t want. Coming to terms with his new circumstances Talon embraces his mating, but still holds back a little, doubting he could fall in love so quickly.
Talon is a fantastic character, he’s fun, bossy and sweet. Blaze is a wonderful man, he’s an understanding, strong Alpha, he will do anything for his mate and his every breath is devoted to Talon. They make a fantastic couple and are very hot together. The storyline is brilliant and we meet lots of interesting characters who hopefully will get their own stories. There are a couple of different threads that come together in this story, an old conspiracy to eradicate humans, a prophecy of the Alpha King, a character being blackmailed, some complicated mating’s, and interesting background stories that look like they will be continued in future books. We are given a story filled with conspiracy, kidnapping, murder, plots and love.
I recommend this to those who love science fiction, shifters, falling in love, m-preg, a touch of kink, great characters, a brilliant storyline, lots of hints for the future and a very happy ending.

Vicktor Alexander has written a fascinating and very different kind of shifter tale in The Alpha King. The blurb does an excellent job of covering the basics of the story, but there is so very much more to the story that I don't want to spoil by adding to it. This is a interesting and densely detailed character and plot driven tale with a plot that flows as smoothly as a placid stream from the beginning to the end. The backstory is richly detailed and provides a solid foundation for the fantastic and very well done world building that creates a universe filled with unique and very convincing species, and primary and secondary characters that are so three dimensional that I felt that I knew them.
The author's writing style is uniquely original, clear, concise, and eloquent. He also has an almost uncanny ability to take the most unusual concept and render it into very believable and easily understandable terms. The sex is super steamy, with enough heat to melt your ereader and make you wish for a cold shower. The story has a HEA ending, but leaves enough twists and unanswered questions to have me looking forward to the next book for answers. This book is a fabulous and fascinating start to a series that I really, truly enjoyed, and left me happily looking forward to the next one in line. If you're looking for a story that has hot men, intrigue, shifters, and plenty of action, then I recommend you get this book.

I really REALLY wanted to give this book more stars. This is the first Vicktor Alexander read, so I'm looking forward to trying out a few more. I think there will be more stars in the near future
The story is very good but it skips around and picks up theme's and then drops them altogether. There are some really funny things contained within - just silly things like pop culture references and associations, which really add to the value of the story.
Another thing that I found frustrating was the sex scenes just randomly seemed to be added and one just went on and on with absolutely NO purpose but for a sex scene. I just find the addition of a scene for the sake of titillation to be an annoyance and yes I just breezed through those scenes cause I wanted to know what was happening with these people and their lives.
The character building is really brilliant. Something that shows a pro writer with concern for the individuals being created. Unfortunately this is all let down by the story not pulling together.
So my summation is that yes it's worth reading.. Just be prepared to be a little frustrated.
I hope that there is further story to this because there is so much unanswered at the end, even though the ending wraps well. (I know borderline giving spoilers - but hey it's aiming at HEA for now..)

Four and a half stars!
I really enjoyed this book. Vicktor is really good at building a world that you just get lost in. He sets up new planets, and rules and traditions almost effortlessly. There are the main characters of the story, but the side characters get a bit of a voice too. I liked seeing into the heads of some of the other characters at key points to see some of the other things going on outside of what happens directly to the main couple. Of course it also makes me want to read the rest of the series RIGHTNOW. I liked that Blaze was loving with Talon when they were alone. He was able to let go and be himself and not always have to be “The Alpha King”. Talon was good at being supportive when needed, but also challenging the beliefs and views when necessary. He wasn’t disrespectful about the ways of the people of Tumaro. He just let them know when it was time to change something. Can’t wait for the next book to come out!

This book was a surprise! I had a feeling that I wouldn't like it at all, then i saw that but had some BDSM; and that kind of clinched it for that unworldly enjoy it. I'm not into BDSM too much, just not my thing. However, this book was exactly what I hoped it was! I actually love MPreg stories, why I'm not sure I just do; and this one has a lol the right elements. It reminds me of Eressë's Chronicles of Ylandre. Man do I love that series so much. It's not the same storyline, but it has more stories within the story that you can't help but be glad that story will go on, just with other characters.
Talon was really sweet and nice, he was hurt at such a young age and still he grew up to be an upstanding citizen. Blaze, he grew up knowing he would rule one day, and that makes a man grow hard. I was glad when Blaze found Talon, cause Talon was able to smooth out those rough edges that Blaze has had to have knowing he had to rule and then to actually rule his planet. Talon made Blaze a more caring and open King to his people.
I can't wait to read Buck's story! He above all else besides Talon's brothers had it extremely hard. I hope he gets his HEA!

Aside from the hilarious celebrity name masking that made me laugh out loud with each new name, The Alpha King has a simple but immersive plot, with characters that draw you in. The main characters' roles may be typical ("growly, possessive alpha" Blaze v. "snarky, smaller mate" Talon), but the couple's unique circumstances, alongside what appears to be potentially expansive world-building, and wonderfully written secondary characters - I was hooked.
Speaking of secondary characters, a number of pairings foreshadowed in this first book have me anxious to read the next installments in the series...Vic cannot write these fast enough for me. I am fascinated with the unique capabilities of the various wolf shifter types, how they'll blend or clash with other shifter types on the other planets in future stories, how the prophecies will play out...the list goes on. Great escapism reading.
