This book is amazing! It is jammed packed with information and Peggy's conversational bestie-to-bestie tone made it a lot of fun to read. I like that it's not a book that expects you to overhaul your entire lifestyle and diet in one fail swoop but allows you to make gradual changes starting with whichever health issue you'd like to focus on. You can read this book cover to cover, like I did, or just pick and choose the chapters that apply to your life. If you read it cover-to-cover, you may find that some information is repeated since certain foods and supplements are good for many ailments. However, this way of organizing the book will make it super easy for me to refer back to time and again. Which I definitely will - I think I dog-eared and/or highlighted every other page!
This book was also really well researched - there are extensive resources, references and endnotes included. If you've been wanting to incorporate healthier foods into your diet for health and healing but have been overwhelmed with where to start, this is the book for you. I highly recommend it.
It would be difficult if not impossible to review this based on the effectiveness of the "cures" or the scientific accuracy of the information. Nutrition is complex and controversial, and each person's body is unique. What I can say is that it is nicely organized and formatted and covers a wide range of up-to-date information that agrees with other things I've read from sources that seem reputable. The author does not try to sell you on a trademark diet plan or tout one food as the root of all evil or the source of all goodness. If you want to know all the hows and whys you can read all the text; or you can look up a particular topic and get right to the recommendation. The beauty section does get repetitive since there is so much overlap between face, body, and aging. I didn't try any of her recipes but I will be making some tweaks to my routine based on her recommendations.
I really loved this book. Any work with so much well-researched and useful information would have every right to be dry, but Kitchen Cures is written in a casual, chatty manner that makes even topics like digestive function fun to read about. I'd highly recommend it to anyone interested in nutrition, healthy living, and/or homemade beauty products.
Amazing, Amazing, Amazing book that gave me exactly what I was looking for - non-sales information on how to use food to heal my body and prevent disease. Peggy's knowledge has been so helpful for me as I transition to a more natural lifestyle. If you are looking for a layperson's handbook for starting to cure conditions with food, this is a great place to start!
