Forty years ago Apollo astronauts brought 842 pounds of moon rocks back to Earth. It cost the American taxpayers 30 billion dollars. It’s a new millennium, and the American people are about to get their money’s worth.
MOON ROCKS
Deep in the heart of Texas…
A NASA moon rock “hatches” releasing an alien creature into the countryside. Now it’s up to NASA geologist, Nick Walker, to stop the monstrous creature in spite of his scheming boss.

Stranded on a desert island my three favorite books would be: Moby Dick, Two Years Before the Mast, Memoirs of an Invisible Man
Great monster romp based on an original idea that is fun if taken at face value. What if some of the rocks that we have brought back from the moon contained the eggs of really big nasty ferocious venom dripping lizard-like homocidal and HUNGRY creatures that would hatch years later and terrorize the world?--or maybe just an isolated mine in Texas, but you get the drift.
Cue the screaming Saturday matinee children.
How did the embryos survive all of these years? Don't know. Don't care. How did these eggs get on the moon and why did we find no evidence of adult specimens? Don't know. Don't care. Why do all aliens look like lizards? Stop. Just stop.
Seriously, Bryan Dunn did a good job with this one. First off, it is well written in a B-movie style. Secondly, confining the action to a small area (mostly an abandoned cave and mine) and focusing more on suspense than relentless bloodshed helped ratchet up the tension and kept the story well contained and enjoyable. Consider this an homage to those great creature feature movies we loved as kids, blast through this in an afternoon or evening, and have a good time doing it.
I enjoyed the author's tracking down the crews who landed on the moon and updating the reader about the aftermath of those events and the astronauts present lives, interests and activities. I appreciated the summary of world events between the first landing on the moon to the present. It was a fun and informative read.
There was life on the moon, and the proof of that is the plot of this novel. The story is fast -paced and surges between horror and incredible. The writing is excellent and its ending sends you wanting more. Be sure to keep this book so you can reread it often! 10 stars, because 5 isn't good enough! - Taborri Walker, author of the Earth Maid series on Amazon
Moon Rocks covers a NASA geologist's discovery that rock samples brought back from the moon have some unexpected hitchhikers on them. Alien mayhem ensues.
This book was the literary equivalent of the days where I went down to the video store as a kid, picked out a movie from Vestron, Trimark, or New World Pictures where the quality of the box art sometimes eclipsed the quality of the actual movie, and enjoyed mindless fun for an hour and a half. This book has all that: from the available, low cost cave sets to the final one-liner when the creature receives its comuppance. It's almost like it was written to be one of these movies. I don't know if it was a conscious choice or not, but it works.
The writing is decent and the characters, while not particularly dimensional, are fun. The love interest is just present enough to be interesting, while not interrupting the horror side of things. The side characters play their roles well enough, and though there are a few parts that drag, the story moves at a good clip most of the time. The book is a quick read, and a typical reader can get through it is a weekend at most.
Part of the reason I enjoyed this book is the same reason that it does not get a higher rating. The story is fun because it's familiar, but it also feels a bit like the reader has been there before, whether is be from watching The Terror Within or another similar movie. The creature is different enough to be interesting, but not particularly unique. The situations are entertaining, but not particularly tense. Ultimately, the "Been There " feeling the reader gets is a blessing and a curse.
Overall though, if you've picked through your horror movie collection and want a bit of nostalgia, this here is a good choice. All for less than the cost of a VHS rental.
The cover art reminds me fondly of Alien, but the comparisons end there. This short horror novel covers alien creatures that live inside of moon rocks and a NASA guy who stumbles upon and unleashes one of them into a nearby salt mine. The characters never get too deep, more like what you'd expect in your average horror flick, but the action moves along with a decent amount of carnage. There are a couple parts I enjoyed like the teacher and her students on a field trip subplot. Worth a read. 3.25 stars. 2,713 Kindle locations.
Not the worst book I've read recently but certainly not the best. It played better in my imagination when I thought of it as an old black and white monster movie. Too many flat characters with very little development and no real surprises at all throughout. Also the end of the book tied things up a little too neatly not to mention set things in place for a sequel. I would only recommend if you are completely out of anything else to read.
This is basically rubbish, but really quite entertaining and readable rubbish. As the cover so subtly hints, it's an Alien rip off (actually, kind of a rip off of the 1980 Italian Alien rip off 'Alien 2: Sulla Terra' as the action takes place on Earth and largely underground). The characters are one dimensional and blur into one, but it kept me turning that virtual pages and the action is fun.
I almost gave up on this book when I was at 15% finished but decided to just read a little further. I am glad I did! After the slow start this was a fast paced book that I read in one sitting. It definitely makes me think we shouldn't be bringing things back from outer space!
Almost as good as Thaw. I loved every minute of this book. Loved the Ending. Loved the characters, you couldn't make them better. Looking forward to the next one.
