Fate on Fire #2

Feudlings in Flames

Rate this book
Ari thought being in love with her prophesied nemesis sucked. But being responsible for her best friend's kidnapping? It sucks worse.

Ari and Shane thought they’d beaten Fate and ended the three-hundred-year war plaguing their people. They thought love had won. But they were so, so wrong.

Instead of graduating high school like the normals, they’re in a battle to save Charity – Shane’s cousin, Ari's best friend, and the seer who might hold the key to ending the war for good. To do that, they’re forced to accept help from a boy they aren’t even sure they can trust. He’s powerful and knows spells even Ari’s never heard of, but he’s also secretive and has a past he’s determined to keep hidden. Add to that the fact that he has his sights set on Ari, and Shane would rather do without his help.

Ari has bigger problems than mysterious boys and their strange powers. The powerful Edren Family is hunting her brother, and she can't very well save him or Charity while they’re constantly being attacked by her own people. To stop the raids, she has to take the fight to them. But if she starts hunting the family that raised her, what kind of monster will she be?

Fate still waits for the death of one by the hand of the other,

Enjoyed this thoroughly!!! Read Feudlings and this one back to back and they were both very entertaining reads. It took me much longer than normal to finish the two books (especially the second one) and these are books that you will enjoy more if you were to read them without a lot of gaps. That's bad for any book because it breaks the flow of the story and the narrative but still, I hung on and thankfully, I managed to finish them and liked every minute of it.

Feudlings in Flames picks up almost immediately after the events from the previous book. Charity is still missing and the rest of the gang is in a mad pursuit to find her. There are a few close shaves where they almost find her but not quite. The cast is joined by a few new characters and for the most part they helped move the story along. The narrative is well paced and keeps the reader on their toes. There is not a moment to breathe with something happening all the time. Like the previous book, this too was told in multiple POVs but unlike the last one, this one featured Ari's and Charity's POV more heavily than Shane's. While I normally find multiple POV slightly annoying (it also tends to break narrative flow) here it seemed to work in favour of the story. It gave us an insight into what was happening with Charity as well as the others. This came in handy because Charity made some fairly important discoveries. I am also very happy there was no attempt to stretch this along to make it a trilogy, it ended with this book and it was a very satisfying end. There is not a single dull moment throughout the book and once you really get into it, it will be close to impossible to put it down.

Pretty much all the characters from Feudlings were back: Ari, Shane, Charity, Hunter, Will and Dani and while most of them were pretty fleshed out in the first book, this one gave us a closer look at some of the others (like Dani) and also shed more light into the Feud (although, we probably could have done with more details in that department) Ari was amazing, she's stubborn and selfless like a lot of other YA heroines but what I really liked about her was that she was unafraid to use her powers and she was the most powerful character in the books (with Shane coming in a close second) She knew how to get her way and did not wait for the boys to come and save her. It is very refreshing to come across heroines who are happy with their super powers and have no problem using them. Most of them think that they would be horrible people if they used them and the rest can't stop feeling sorry for themselves for no apparent reason. While Ari did have some moments of doubt, they had more to do with the way her grandfather had raised her and what he had made her do and the fact that now she was fighting her own family than 'Woe is me, I have so many awesome super powers but I can't stop whining', Ari did not whine, she was matter of fact and straightforward.

Shane was an absolute sweetheart in the first book but this time around, he turned into a jerk for a bit in the middle, with the entry of Tristan. Shane felt threatened by Tristan and the fact that there were somethings about Ari that he got immediately. Ari had been fighting her whole life and had killed quite of few people, these were things that Shane just didn't get because of the sheltered life he had led. Tristan on the other hand, got this immediately and could sympathise and empathise with her. Shane started ignoring Ari or being very curt with her without even giving her a chance to explain. When they did talk, Ari told him very clearly that she loved Shane and Tristan was not a threat in that regard but he still wasn't convinced. I mean, come on!!!! What did he want, a promise of fidelity signed in blood? It was apparent from the beginning that Ari was never interested in Tristan but I guess the author wanted some conflict between them and Tristan was the catalyst, that's all. All in all, quite disappointed in Shane.

I really liked Charity and Hunter. They were both loyal and strong. It was nice to see more of Charity and I would have liked to know more about her character (I plan to read the novella featuring her and Hunter) I liked her dynamic with Ari, it was good to see their friendship. I probably liked Hunter more than I liked Shane. Hunter was the strong and silent type and very no-nonsense. And yet, big as he was, he was warm and caring. He was protective of Ari even when he knew that Ari was stronger than him and even opposed Shane when he thought that Shane might want to hurt Ari (from Feudlings)

Tristan was one of the new characters in this book and apart from being a source of tension between Ari and Shane there wasn't a lot of about him that came out. For the most part he was a mystery, you knew from the very beginning that he had an agenda but also that for some reason he genuinely did care about Ari and wanted to protect her. Will was a likeable character if not particularly remarkable. He was the sweet, caring older brother who desperately wanted to protect Ari but was unable to for a long time. It was nice to see his relationship with Ari and how close they were. Dani didn't really make a positive impression in the first book and we see more of her in this book. It was nice to see that she had guts and was willing to fight for Will and Ari but she didn't really stand out.

I loved Nev and Livi. They had way more screen time in Feudlings than here but they were still memorable. They were so likeable that I missed not seeing them here. Nev was still featured but absolutely no Livi. They were good friends to Ari even when they hardly knew her and made sure that they included her since she was new and did not know anyone else.

The Feudlings series is a quick and fun read if you're looking for something that isn't very intense. They are entertaining books with great characters and story that will immediately grab your attention and not let go till you're done reading them.

Because of how much I loved Feudlings, I had very high expectations for Feudlings in Flames. And they were surpassed! Wendy Knight really outdid herself on this book. I loved the drama that came up between Ari and Shane...a perfect relationship isn't entertaining (sad as that sounds). I also loved guessing through the entire book, trying to figure out who Tristan was. By the almost end of the book, I was sure I knew exactly who he was...and who he actually turned out to be was a complete surprise! Well done, Wendy!

In this book, you learn more about the war going on between the Carules and Edrens, how it started. I really enjoyed that. I loved the action and drama of Feudlings but it was nice in this one to get a little bit more of a backstory.

This book releases in May. I was lucky enough to receive a copy as a beta reader for the author and am looking forward to buying a copy when it comes out. This is definitely a must-read book this summer!

It was an interesting book. A lot of magic battles. I figured out part of Richard's secret but one part was a surprise for me. There were some other surprising reveals that explained so much. It was nice to see the spell definitions in the back. It helps the reader to understand what each spell is for. Overall, a great way to spend a few hours.

This is book 2 in the ‘Fate on Fire’ series.
The war continues on, and now Charity has been kidnapped.
Can Ari save Charity? Can she maintain her relationship with Shane? And can she win the war?

I didn’t like the first book in this series, but I’ve had some luck with sequels being better than the first book recently, so I decided to give this a go. Unfortunately, I didn’t like this either though.

I had problems with Ari in this book. She had let the whole ‘Edren Prodigy’ go to her head, and was pretty full of herself, even going so far as to tell someone “What do you mean you could help me? I don’t need help. Ever.” and had also developed a serious mean streak. I couldn’t quite believe the callous and even bloodthirsty demeanour she had developed. Instructing people to ‘Go in. (and) Kill everything in our way.’, and then setting a building on fire, and telling the people trapped inside “Soon they (the flames) will engulf this whole estate. I suggest you run.”.

The other characters weren’t much better, and Shane was just bizarre. When a mystery boy started attacking Ari, he didn’t worry about her getting killed, no he worried that she was going to dump him for the guy attacking her! I mean talk about strange ideas! And he then spent most of the book whining about how insecure he was, and how she was bound to dump him for someone else. Sorry, but I think you should have other priorities. Like not getting killed!

The storyline in this was a little odd too. It mostly revolved around rescuing Charity (a seer), who had been kidnapped by the bad guys, as well as the on-going war being fought between the two different sides. I have to say that the bad guys seemed to be treating Charity pretty well most of the time though, considering she was a prisoner and all.
There was some romance in this book, but I can’t say I really liked it. This was probably partly to do with the fact that I didn’t like the characters, but also because they had a very strange relationship, and because when Shane turned around and told Ali that she was incapable of love, she actually believed him, and couldn’t see that he was lying!
The rest of the storyline also annoyed me. Why freaking practice throwing spells at each other, with the one person who you are destined to kill?! I mean how stupid can you get?

I can’t say I really liked this book to be honest. I didn’t find it exciting or interesting, and the characters just irritated me. The ending was alright, and at least we didn’t get a cliff-hanger, but I don’t think I’ll be giving the third book a chance.
Overall; irritating.
4.5 out of 10.

Holy crap!! I need a moment to wipe the stupid grin off my face after that HEA. Wow. For a book less than 300 hundred pages long(ipad), this one really packed a punch! WHAT A GREAT SEQUEL! Excellent pacing, awesome depth, fantastic characters. My first reaction when I finished? Oh no its over!

This one was all about getting Charity rescued. With lots of fighting and battle scenes I was never bored even though she wasn't rescued towards the 80% mark.

This one was told in Ari, Shane and Charity's POV I didn't mind Charity's POV shes such a sweet character I liked getting to know more about her visions about ChristIan and Ada from the past and what started the war.

The new character Tristan, I liked him! I loved how protective and loyal he was to Ari. I knew instantly who he really was, I mean really Was it considered a love triangle? I don't think so, I didn't even consider it, I kept thinking that maybe her and Tristan might be related so I had nothing to worry about. poor Shane though having to put up with his jealousy everytime Tristan and Ari were together.

Shane and Ari were so cute together, I loved Shane in this one

"Do you think Will would kill us if we shared a bed?"

Ari blushed bright red.

"Nothing would happen!" Shane rushed to continue, trying hard not to laugh. "I just want to feel your head on my chest."

Again this is a really good sequel, no major players died and everyone got their happily ever after.

I would totally read other books by Wendy Knight in the future based on this series.

An awesome conclusion to a great series.

The Prodigies Ari and Shane with help of Will, Hunter and the mysterious Tristan are still trying to track down the kidnapped Charity. Charity mean while is worried about being rescued as she has had vision of the death of many of those involved in the rescue but soon her vision become to fade could this be due to spells being performed on her.
Will the team be able to rescue Charity in time and prevent her vision form coming true before she looses her mind. What secret to Tristan and Richard hold that could change everything

Wendy Knight is master story teller she brings magic, romance and an ancient war to life through her words. Can't wait to read more books by her

This is an awesome conclusion to the Fate of Fire series! It was action packed, had a bit of romance, and a lot of suspense. The characters were great, and the story was interesting. I read the prequel of Ada and Christian's story and loved that story as well. So when I read them in this story, I was so happy! Wendy Knight, you made a fan out of me. Can't wait to read more of your books. Overall, an amazing read.

When I bought Feudlings I was happy with a surprisingly great find and was way excited for the next book. For me it didn't disappoint. I think Ari is great and I like the idea of how strong everyone is together. Like even though Ari is super powerful and super kick butt she is so much more with Shane and Hunter and Will and Charity.

Talk about and wild and crazy ride for the fate of the free world. This story has it all, love, hate and Life Lessons that get to the heart of why we seek each other out. Grabbed my attention and held it completely through to the last page. What a exciting world this story teller weaves with this series almost felt like I could weave magic myself. Looking forward to more from Wendy Knight.

Feudlings 2

This was even better than the first one. I know there is a novella (or maybe two?) and I look forward to reading it/them. However, I don't think it/they could get any better than this one...but I'm looking forward to reading it/them to find out. (Was that wording awkward, or what?! lol)

Wow I loved the first book so much I didn't think it could get any better! Loved getting more of the back story. What's best though is that this book gives you everything from drama to mystery to action to romance and I am so sad I finished it already! Wendy Knight is amazing!

I loved the first book in this series. Like. Loooved it. So I was eagerly anticipating this book as well. And while I liked it a lot, and enjoyed the story, I didn't loooove it like I looooved the first one. There were just a couple of little things about this book that didn't work nearly as well for me. First of all, the alternating points of view. I loooove books with dual POVs (or more, honestly), but the addition of Charity and some of the other characters just didn't do it for me. Especially with how frequently I felt like we were getting their points of view. I fell in love with Ari and Shane in the first book, and loved getting the story from their eyes. I understand why Charity's POV was included, but it was far too frequent for my taste... but that's just me. Also, That still wasn't as annoying to me as the POV thing, but it felt worth mentioning. But overall I still really enjoyed this book, and was happy to see more of Shane and Ari and Will and Hunter and the rest of the gang before the series ended.

This book is why I take months-long breaks from YA books. I can't handle that much teenage angst. Surely teens are more rational creatures than YA would lead us to believe?!
Yes, kill hundreds of foot soldiers, but let the villains responsible live, all the while spending pages of my time thinking of yourself as a monster while nothing gets done. I mean, Charity got kidnapped at the end of book one. They don't actually go after her until the final 30% of book two. So they spend the first 70% arguing, getting jealous, having pity parties inside their heads, and training.
And the book just wouldn't end. Charity just when the rescue party of one arrives (yes, we have an annoying "I must do this alone!" moment), so I felt kind of cheated because they spent all this time and effort talking about rescuing her but don't truly get to do it. We have the epic final battle. The moment of truth when the prophecy must be fulfilled. We come down off that high. Rest. Recuperate. And just when a nice charming prologue ought to appear, bam! Oh, bad guy is still around and *shocker* "I must take care of him alone!" And then proceeds to a very anti-climactic resolution. I suspect this author has a hard time ending her stories.
This whole book could've comfortably paired down to fit into a few chapters at the end of the first book. I'm just incredibly thankful the author didn't try to stretch this series to three books. The story really wouldn't have survived a trilogy.

I really enjoyed book one, and I honestly don’t know why I waited so long to read Feudlings in Flames. It was a lot of fun!

The action picks up right where the last one left off, and there are quite a few twists along the way. We get some new characters, the most prominent being Tristan. That one gave me some mixed feelings because he seemed a dark, mysterious figure (and he did turn out to be important) but also immature and petty sometimes. Understandably, of course, after learning his backstory, but still. I also wanted to learn more about Vivian but I suspect that’ll be addressed in a novella story.

Something that threw off other readers was Shane and Ari’s relationship drama. Was Shane insecure? Yes. Was he being a bit of a jerk? Yes. But honestly, if you remember he’s an eighteen-year-old boy in his first serious relationship, their fights make sense. They do care for each other a lot, but they haven’t yet learned how to be together and considerate and trusting. So that aspect seemed relatable and realistic to me. Although I would’ve liked to see him actually apologize after realizing his mistake, at least his POV showed he was aware of his mistake.

The ending was clever but somewhat anticlimactic. I mean, it was emotional and good, but it also felt rushed to me so I didn’t really get to soak it all in.

Overall, it was a fun read.

Love this series! There's lots of great action, and the whole series has an unique premise. Love Ari! She kicks butt! The romance between Ari and Shane is really sweet. I would've actually loved if there were quite a bit more of the romance. I also was hoping a misunderstanding between Shane and Ari would've been played out better. I wanted more of Ari and Shane! In this book, Ari and the gang are trying to figure where Charity has been taken, so they can rescue her. Oh and there's a little war going on between the Carules and the Edrens. A mysterious person also arrives that causes some complications in Ari's life. There's also another mysterious person roam around, and I really don't get why this person was being so mysterious. We get POV's mainly from Ari, Shane, and Charity, and I enjoyed all the POV's. Entertaining and interesting! I wish this series wasn't over! I'm really going to miss it!

This is the second book of the series and oh my gosh!!!!!
I LOVE IT even more than I loved the first!! The angst, the love, the action... my oh my!!
The twists and turns in this book are absolutely exceptional! I was literally shouting at my kindle while reading it. I did not see it coming!
This book has surpassed my every expectations, it truly is phenomenal.
I love Ari, I love how strong she is, I love Shane, how much he loves, I love charity, what she is enduring is awful yet she is strong! Most of all I love hunter... just swoon worthy!!
Wendy Knight has completely left me speechless and wanting more from her. I will definitely be reading more from her.
Wendy's writing style is unique, her storyline is incredible and the character developments are amazing.
If you can't tell already, I adored this book! I promise, if you read this book you will NOT be disappointed!

I really enjoyed this book. There was plenty of action, plenty of magic. The pacing is good too. I don't think I was ever board. I was quite attached to the characters. I had to put the book down and walk a way multiple times because of how emotionally tied up I was in what happened to the characters I had come to love. The drama was very real.

I am one of those people that talk to not just the characters in a television show or movie but to the characters in the book I am reading. This is very awkward when I am in a public place trying to read. I did a lot of that with this book. The more I like a book, more invested I am in it, the more I talk to it and the characters in it while I am reading.

I have enjoyed the Feudling series. I am very glad to have found it. Now that I have finished this novel, I already miss it. Wendy Knight is definitely worth reading.

Probably closer to a 3.5. Love the characters and the world but thought this book started out slow (I actually stopped reading a few years ago to only pick it up again now) only to end up been rushed to the point I almost stopped caring about things towards the end cause they were just said and not shown. The writing was also very choppy at points were I actually had to re-read parts because I was losing track of who was doing what.

Overall, just not a strong sequel but still love the characters and was thrilled to read their stories conclusions.

ughh this was such a big disapointment. i had really high hopes this would be a good series but context was just the worst, i still cant get over how Shane and Ari have literally nothing and all of a sudden they are in love it makes no sense, then theres still the fact that were just thrusted into this magical world with a lack of any knowledgment now onto this book. i only finished it cause the Christian factor was pretty cool. but good god the fact that the ending was just walk in take power the end was so damn lame highly disapointing.

Oh my gosh. I loved every single minute of this book, it was so good!! It was full of so many emotions, love, hope, betrayal, sadness, anger, the list goes on and on. There are so many twists and turns and you just never know what's going to happen next. I love these characters so much. They have a special place in my heart. Even the villains are deliciously bad and unbelievably cruel. Feudings is an amazing series and I love it!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The stakes escalate as Ari and Shane face the consequences of their choices in a world still torn by war. This sequel packs plenty of action, with kidnapping, betrayals, and new alliances testing the characters’ limits. The addition of a mysterious powerful boy complicates relationships and raises the tension. The narrative balances fast-paced plot with emotional complexity, keeping readers hooked on the fate of Charity and the looming threat from the Edren Family. The lingering prophecy adds a dark edge to the romance and fantasy elements.

Ari, Shane, Hunter and Will are back again in Feudlings in Flames, casting deadly spells and searching desperately for Charity. Sometimes a sequel isn't as good as the first book and just can't live up to the expectations set by Book 1. I am happy to say that isn't the case here! Book 2 is just as awesome as Book 1. After reading this book, I am really looking forward to reading the two Prequels that are planned next for the series. I don't usually like reading or watching prequels...I struggled with Star Wars 1,2 & 3 because you know who Anakin becomes and it is so sad to see a hero become so evil. Anyway, the way Feudlings in Flames sets up the prequels, I don't think I will know how it will end for the characters after all. If you read this book, you will know what I mean. Also, I appreciate the clean language and the age appropriate romance. Something else I appreciate it is that the heroine is strong and independent, and excellent at kicking butt. One of the things I love about the characters is that Ari and her friends are strong and independent on their own, are even stronger when they fight together, and are fiercely loyal to each other, especially Hunter. Yes, after Ari, Hunter is my favorite. I am happy to share this book with my teenage daughter.
