Dykes to Watch Out For #9

Post-Dykes to Watch Out for

Rate this book
The further adventures of Mo, her tenure-bound girlfriend, Sydney, and their much-loved friends unfold against a shifting gender lesbians sleeping with men, lesbians becoming men, Ginger sleeping with lesbians who've become men. As with her eight previous collections, Alison Bechdel covers a host of pressing issues, from the Monica Lewinsky scandal to the decline of the independent bookstore, and pauses to consider whether an online affair qualifies as cheating. "Of course it's cheating!" says Mo, "It would be a diversion of emotional energy." Sydney "It's more like remote, interactive masturbation." True love survives the gender wars, but monogamy may be on the wane. Don't miss the thrilling details, in the last volume of Bechdel's work to be published by the now-defunct Firebrand Press. --Regina Marler

It's one of the best illustrated books I've read. This "witty critique on the fringes of heteronormativity discourse" was published in 2000, but it might as well have been published today.

Going through a Bechdel kick. This is the second that I have read. Unfortunately, my library doesn't have a lot of these. I will read what I can because they are pretty funny.

I can't quite describe it but something like a mix of Berkeley Breathed, Jim Davis and Garry Trudeau. I mean I could reach for some alternative folks like Aline Kominsky but that is stretching to get the tone right. I enjoy Bechdel's stuff a lot and wish that some of these strips had been widely seen.

I believe I had seen the Dykes only a few times and it is only when you see enough of them together that it gets funnier. Worth the search.

Sparrow’s boyfriend, Stu, was having way too many distractions to sleeping with her. Sydney’s having a writer’s block for her article while MO’s cleaning their apartment without Syd helping out. While Clarice getting distracted thinking of Ginger. Whereas Toni just ran into Gloria and her kid. This was at a basketball game, while Clarice just sauntered up to Ginger at the bleachers. Lois just vacated her seat for Clarice. Upstairs, Lois just ran into Jerry, the trans mechanic. Complications ensues while Clarice and Toni’s kid, Rafael got himself a pet snake. ‘Course, Clarice is having second thoughts. More fun to come for Jezanna and her dad. Recommended still.

Illustrating lesbian life with insight, humor, wit, and grace, as always, is the masterful Bechdel.

this cover is like the best thing.

I'm so hooked on these books, they are awesome. but yes I always knew I loved Alison Bechdel - a lot -. And it looks like the whole Berlin also because I'm trying to rent Are you my mom? since I got the membership and one day is there and in the other is gone. damn.

By the way they also have nr. 10 but not nr. 11. I think I'll have to buy that one. I cannot keep up without reaching the end of it. eheh

Ik vond het eerst wat moeilijk om "erin" te komen, maar eens over de helft en wanneer het aansluitend verhaal "Flow State" begon: echt leuk en grappig om te lezen!

Another installment I quite enjoyed. Not much to say beyond that at the moment! I need to read #8 and #9, though, so I can see what I missed in-between.

Very interesting. But very adult. Nudity and expression of all sexualities.

I love this series but number 9 wasn't as exciting as all the ones that came before. But still, these characters feel like family so I havta keep going.
