We have an "activity jar" for our kids. It's just a clean spaghetti sauce jar that we have filled with 1"x2" pieces of bright cardstock folded in half. Each piece has a different activity written on it. When our days aren't full of the "pre-scheduled" activities/errands that make up life, and the kids are just pining for a fun activity, we pull out an activity and give it a go! We've designed and painted our own T-shirts, made edible playdough (chocolate!), painted rocks, made wooden spoon puppets, and sand art, just to name a few.

I'm always looking for new ideas to add to the jar. We do recycle ideas, but they always enjoy something new, especially if it allows them to see how something "works". I'm always disappointed when I spend time reading a new activity book and only come away with a handful of new ideas I can use for my kids. "Science Play: Beginning Discoveries for 2-to-6-year-olds" was the perfect source for many new ideas! (Close to 50 for us!) We can't wait to host a Mad Scientist Party and make Purple Cows and Sugar Crystal Necklaces, or make our own Ooblek.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has curious, hands-on kids who also doesn't mind getting involved themselves.

This is such a fun book! I love most of the books from this series. It really is age appropriate. I've been using this book for preschool with my not-quite two year old son, and it's been a blast. We've made gooblec, and that's been a big hit. The book has supplemental reading suggestions, edible projects, and crafts. It's so fun to homeschool toddlers!
