“Conquistador de la Noche” by Carrie Vaughn details the vampire origins of Ricardo de Avila (from the Kitty Norville series). The story will bring you firmly into “Camp Ricardo.” What a fascinating character!
This review is only about Carrie Vaughn 's Conquistador De La Noche. Finally found Rick 's origin story available online and it was free. Good origin story, but not as good as Kitty 's.
Even without (maybe especially without?) context for the rest of the series, I really enjoyed this. Ricardo is hugely sympathetic, and I found his moral battle believable both righteous and believable on a level I hadn't expected to. The story itself is well constructed and well written. Definitely recommend.
Buffalo soldier Deadwood Dick encounters a black man with one leg pinned under a dead horse and the white men on his trail. A bunch of Chinese girls and racist white men from the eponymous settling add additional colours to the shooting action.
