In her lifetime, psychic Jane Roberts was visited by every kind of layperson and scientist. The Jane Roberts/Seth material, now housed in the Yale University Archives is consistently one of the top two collections visited. One can't help but be awed by her genius and her She dared to ask new questions and they brought her exciting new insights. Because of her contribution to the study of consciousness, Moment Point has dedicated our Classics in Consciousness series to Roberts. In addition to Adventures in Consciousness, we are also publishing, as part of this new series, Roberts's books Psychic Politics and The God of Jane.Throughout the time she spoke for Seth, Jane questioned not only the nature of trance-mediumship (who was Seth, how was she able to speak for him) but also alternate states of awareness that she experienced and witnessed in others—-ESP, channeling, Ouija board messages, out-of-body experiences, dreams encounters, reincarnational dramas, among other occurrences. In Adventures in Consciousness, Roberts sets out to discover the origins of this entire range of events for which science has found no "official" proof. What emerges is her theory of aspect nothing less than a revolutionary view of the human personality. In addition to the theory present in Adventures in Consciousness, Roberts includes anecdotes and practical information that we can all use to develop our own "psychic" abilities, our own adventures in consciousness. What People Are SayingIn developing and exploring her extraordinary gifts, Jane left behind the comforts of virtually every institution of accepted thought, includingconventional science, religion, the literary world she once yearned to win over, the role models of her time, and even—or especially—-the traditional spiritualist and mediumistic ideas that only served to embarrass her. In this brave and brilliant book, Jane plows right over old ground and not only asks new questions, but creates a stunning paradigm of consciousness that becomes even more original as time goes by.—Susan M. Watkins, author of Speaking of Jane RobertsThere are times while reading Adventures in Consciousness that you will have that moment of insight when, for an instant, you catch a glimpse of the enormity, the beauty, of the human psyche. And with that experience you recognize the exciting complexity of your own individual psyche. Mind-expanding.—Lynda Dahl, award-winning author of The Book of Fallacies and Beyond Winning StreakAs a physicist I have long been amazed at the insights into the workings of the universe Jane Roberts discovered through the "personality" known as Seth. In Adventures in Consciousness, she shows us how a whole new "aspect psychology" can be built in which the "psychic" elements of reality are not denied as they usually are in today's science. . . . For anyone interested in the psychic elements of reality, this is a must-read.—Fred Alan Wolf, American-Book Award winning author of Mind into Matter and The Spiritual UniverseJane Roberts possessed a combination of psychic talent and intellectual curiosity that contributed enormously to our understanding of human consciousness.—Norman Friedman, author of Bridging Science and Spirit and The Hidden DomainAbout the AuthorJane Roberts (1929-1984) is considered one of the most important psychics of the twentieth century. From 1963 through 1984, she spoke for Seth, who described himself as an "energy personality essence no longer focused in physical reality." In addition to nine books by Seth she also wrote fourteen books of her own including her Adventures in Consciousness, Psychic Politics and The God of Jane. The Jane Roberts/Seth material (much of it unpublished, including Roberts's journals) is now housed in the Yale University Archives and is consistently one of the top two most visited collections in the archives.
Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the GoodReads database with this name.
Roberts was born in Saratoga Springs, New York. After attending public schools, she attended Skidmore College. She wrote in a variety of genres: poetry, short stories, children’s literature, and novels. When she was in her 30s, she and her husband began to record what she said were messages from a personality named "Seth", and she wrote several books about the experience.
The first half of this book a biographical excerpt of Jane Roberts life, which is interesting if you want to learn about the person behind Seth. I felt it gave me some useful context. However what really interested me was the second half of the book, where Roberts discusses aspect psychology and explores the topic of space/time and how a person's identity creates possibilities. Given that a lot of what she shares is similar to my own work on the topic, I wish I'd read this book years ago, but for anyone reading this book it'll provide some intriguing ideas to help you understand identity and space/time and how they fit together.
Another great book by Jane Roberts. I still recommend Seth's books "Nature of Personal Reality" and "Seth Speaks" before any other books out there (both fantastic listens on Audible), but it is an interesting experience reading one of Jane's books, and not Seth's - both are through/by Jane Roberts of course though.
It's amazing to me how much material Jane came up with to write about through her daily experiences, and I found myself having to really go slow reading her books. A few pages or so at a time and put the book down for the night or some days even. Jane lived some strange experiences that sound a lot to me like hallucinations but a lot can be learned through her transcendent lifetime.
This is a non-fiction about the personal perspectives of Jane Roberts as her ego, subconscious and oversoul takes her through a life of an explorer of the inner world. The way Seth explains it, our physical senses perceive the physical framework which is somewhat of a trick upon the soul-fragment. Fragment of what soul? The spiritual soul of the source-Self. Upon being born into the physical framework, a fresh fragment of a much more knowledgeable soul is given independence as an individual. All-That-Is creates and maintains our physical framework continuously. There are other frameworks to stabilize a fresh fragment and ours happens to be the one that you unconsciously desired to attempt to fallow your blueprint. All blueprints are designed to lead you towards successful growth... you can go beyond the original design or like this probabilities mystery school Cult... you can fall short of the design. Jane Roberts attempts to put into perspective how the thUgtopian's psychology falls short of what is really is to be a soul-fragment within our species. The secret-societies began invading Janes class-rooms and home during the 1970's as she attempted to keep their ideology out of her daily life. This was a difficult task because the Mystery School Cult claimed this "psychic-realm" of society to be their... and She and Seth bursted into their facade and began to rip it to pieces with the knowledge and abilities of Seth to guide her. It should not come as a surprise that Jane die within the grasp of the Cult's "medical Mafia" whom hide in the shadows of every hospital with wounds that would not heal. Dr. Rauni Kilde exposed that brain-interfaces were used upon the general public for experimentation since 1974. Jane may have also been covertly brainchip so the thUgtopian could study just what part of the brain was bridging Seth into this framework. If they did brainchip her, then they would try to convince her to want to die. Remember, Seth broke through to this framework because the thUgtopians are taking it over and will destroy our species in this probability through greed and self-righteousness. As you read this book, keep in mind that jane was having thUgs with Mystery School ideology constantly trying to influence her thinking to become more like theirs.
While this book may seem outlandish at times, Author Jane Roberts really dives deep into some of my favorite subject matter, perception, the psyche, space and time, and reincarnation. Towards the end of the book is when the information Roberts offers the reader gets really interesting. She breaks down the psyche into aspect selves and with the help of several diagrams explain how your consciousness exists and how we perceive reality in several different dimensions. Anyone interested in reading Books such as psychology, the mind, or space and time relationships will love this book. The main aspect of this reading that made me give it five stars was the fact that it made me question my existence and forced me to realize how little we know about our own consciousness and how little we take the time to truly explore the depths of our psyche. I believe these are extremely important questions and realizations to ponder if our society ever wants to make a meaningful step towards a long overdue collective human evolution.
