This was a YA fantasy romance with a distinctly fairytale feel to the story. It was set in a typical fairytale style world and packed with all sorts of magic a weird creatures.

Prince Garin is the sort of Prince that occupies his time by going on the sorts of quests that bring fame and fortune to his kingdom. He has fought all sorts of dragons, witches, and monsters, and rescued his fair share of damsels in distress. His latest quest has him seeking the legendary Treasure of Isian in the far away and mysteriously insular kingdom of Isian. He has his usual troop of soldier plus his ever loyal servant Elani along for the ride. An encounter with angry giants separates the Prince from his men and rather than return home empty handed Garin decides to press on with the hunt for the treasure with just Elani for company. The pair grow close as they are forced to rely on each other to overcome the obstacles they encounter along the way.

I quite enjoyed the premise of the story and Elani and Garin were likeable enough characters. Theirs was a slow burn romance as Garin began to realize just how much the servant he had taken for granted all these years really meant to him and as Elani began to realize that she was as worthy of Garin as any court princess. The fun twist was that poor Elani was under a curse that forced her to obey any command Garin gave her!

Despite quite liking the premise I still ended up being quite disappointed with the story. The writing was quite simplistic and left me feeling a little distant from the characters. I also felt like this story suffered badly from a lack of humour. There should definitely be humor in a world filled with magical curses and weird creatures!

All in all I felt like there was a good story in here somewhere but the flaws held it back from being half as much fun as it could have been.

Rating: 3 stars.

Audio Note: This was narrated by Carolyn Kashner. She was adequate rather than good. She tended to be a bit robotic in her delivery of the dialogue.

Prince Garin decides to go on a quest to find the fabled Treasure of Isian. Along with his trusted servant Elani, he sets out to the mysterious kingdom Isian, but things don't go according to plan and Garin and Elanifind themselves spit from his soldiers. They continue on their path but Garin is taken from Elani and she will do anything she can to get him back.

This is a tough on to rate because, while I did enjoy it, I just found too many things that annoyed me or turned me off the overall story. I left the rating at 3 starts but I'm thinking it's 2.5.

Anyway, I liked world building of the book. There is plenty of amazing creatures and the mystery surrounding certain kingdoms was really well done. I liked the spin the author put on the Elves, it was unique and a definitely a different approach to Elves. I also liked the idea of the plot, a quest to find a fabled treasure from a mysterious kingdom, that is said to grant your every wish! It just screamed adventure. The execution of the plot though wasn't as adventurous as I'd hoped. The pacing wasn't consistent because there were a few times I wanted to skip ahead because it slowed right down.

The characters were kind of meh, to be honest. None of them appealed to me much. Initially Prince Garin came across as an up tight so and so. He expected everyone to do what he said and he grated on me first. He did grow a bit during the story which was a good thing, but I still felt like he needed to be more.... I don't know, likable I suppose is the word I'm looking for.

Meanwhile, Elani annoyed me so much at first. She obeyed Garins every wish and was always thinking of him and fawning all over him. I wanted her to grow a backbone!! But then we find out she is spelled to do his bidding, and it made much more sense. I started to warm to her then. But I still felt like she needed to be more capable to look after herself. She came across as weak.

In all, while this review may seem more negative than positive, I did still enjoy the story. I think if the author put a little more into the adventure, it would have been great.

Carolyn Kashner was clear and read this well. Her tones and vices were adequate and she did put effort into the narration, but I felt like her male voices were all the same and she needed to put a little more emphasis to her inflections to really capture the mood.

I was voluntarily provided this audiobook for free from the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

I was given a copy of this book by the author but the opinions expressed herein are my own.

This was an enchanting read. I didn't want to put it down once the story got going. Elani was an engaging heroine who was all the more likable because she had little faith in herself. Her position as a servant who was cursed to serve a prince and obey his every command made her doubt her own abilities, yet she was very capable and up to every challenge. She gained confidence as the story progressed surprising herself and the Prince Prince Garin took a little more time to warm up to and I really couldn't care much about him till he realized how self centered and rude he was to Elani.

As they engage on a quest for treasure the Prince drags Elani all over the place expecting her to take care of his every need. She humbly and patiently complies but is secretly in love with him, despite his rudeness. Both characters grow throughout the story as they quickly waylaid by giants, elves, a water witch and warring countries. Elani has to rescue the Prince at one point and he finally sees her as a person and begins to realize all she does for him.

Highly recommend to fans of fantasy with a dash of romance!

This story is captivating and has many twists and turns. It gives a new dimension to fantasy characters. It was difficult to put down. Not only is it a fantasy, but a sweet love story that can be enjoyed by young adult and adult alike. The devotion of Elani to her Prince was enjoyable, making the reader wonder when the Prince will see her as something more than a servant. Highly recommended!

Just finished reading "The Treasure of Isian" by Serena Clarke. I am surprised I am giving this book 5 stars. It is not my normal kind of read but I enjoyed this book. Prince Garin sets off to find The Magical Treasure Of Isian after his younger brother Prince Rogan tells him the secret of it. The secret is that it is a treasure that will grant your every wish. Prince Garin and his servant Elani ( a girl of 17, which for the last 13 years had been his servant and who is secretly in love with him) doesn't even know what the treasure is, only that he wants it. Prince Garin and Elani encounters giants and elves and centaurs. The centaurs tell them the treasure will not be what they are expecting. Elani must killed a water-witch and free Prince Garin from dragons and find the magical looking glass of Isian. Then the seer tells her " You do not know who you are and that finding the glass is your special mission. They find help from a old friend of Prince Garin's father. They do discovered the treasure and it is a surprise to all. The ending is the best surprise of all! If all fantasy was written like this I might read more fantasy, I will be looking for more of her novels to read! This book was given to me to read for an honest review!

Thanks to Serena Clarke for giving me this book to review.

The Treasure of Isian is a very fun and enjoyable romantic fantasy book which has a fairytale feel to the world. The story is full of adventure, magical creatures and good world building. While predictable it did not stop the story from being a really good read and I did not want to put the book down.

Elani is a lovely main character as she is kind and hardworking but at the beginning of the book she lacks confidence and self-worth but it was a nice progression her developing them during the story. I was not the biggest fan of Garin as he seemed too proud and lacked patience and empathy towards Elani. However, he did grow on me as I saw that most of this is a façade and that he is an adventurous and determined person who cares for his people. One character I really liked is Ander as he is caring and truly an all-round good guy and I hope we see more of him.

I really liked this book and I am looking forward to reading the next book The Alliance of Isian. I would recommend The Treasure of Isian to fans of the Stolen Royals by Kelsey Keating and the Nine Princesses novellas by Anita Valle.

This was a very adventurous and exciting Fantasy. There was seldom a slow moment. Young men will most likely enjoy it as much as the young women.

A servant set out on a journey for treasure with her prince and with a guard of several soldiers. Within days they were overtaken by giants and separated from the palace guard, as they fled for their lives. They worked together for survival until they could get help. The were forced into confrontations with different types of varmints in various situations.

In the end will they find the treasure? Will they, finally, give up for the sake of saving their lives and the Kingdom?

It is a very suspenseful, action packed, and romantic story. Very cleanly written and will be great for YA and adults alike. Great for book club discussions

I won this in a blog giveaway on Linda Weaver Clarke's blog. It was already on my wish list.

The Treasure of Asian is an interesting tale about a servant girl who must do what the prince commands. Elani grows up with the prince and they learn many things together: sword fighting, riding horses, hunting, and such. When the prince takes Elani with him to hunt a treasure, he never imagines how this trip will change their lives forever. They have to battle giants, women warriors, a water witch, and poison plants all to get this special treasure that all want, but only the right person can use.
The story starts a bit slow, yet soon draws you in, and won’t let you go. This is a good young adult novel with all the right things to make it your favorite. The romance is cute and clean.

A tale of an enchanted servant and a handsome prince and the adventures they face together as they search for the fabled treasure of Isian. This story had everything--dragons, witches, giants, elves, kings, princesses, terrifying forests and true love. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. Elani's story was touching and heartbreaking as she goes on a journey of self-discovery and enlightenment. Fast paced story. The author connected me to the characters well. This quick read brought a smile to my face and helped me remember that sometimes, we can overlook the most valuable treasures in life if we're not careful.

The Treasure of Isian is great story with intriguing characters. At times I thought the pacing was off, but I was still enjoying the story. Elani is a fabulous character with lots of heart and she had many adventures. Garin too was enjoyable and I really liked the turnaround he made from the beginning of the story. He at first was a spoiled prince who didn't care much for anything or anyone but himself. I also enjoyed how Garin started seeing Elani through different eyes. Serena did a great job with the supporting characters too. Ander and Jared were great surprises.

This was an engaging fantasy with magical creatures, princes and princesses, and of course a mysterious quest. Prince Garin hears of the Treasure of Isian and its ability to grant wishes. No one knows what the treasure is or where it's located, but Garin assembles his soldiers and his faithful servant Elani to seek it.

Elani has been Garin's shadow since she was four years old, when she arrived alone at the gates of his castle unaware of even her own name. When it was discovered that she's forced to obey his commands, she was given to him as a servant. Although Garin is betrothed to another, Elani has loved him all her life. She's delighted to go on the quest with him even if it's only as his servant.

Garin and Elani become separated from the rest of their soldiers and tumble from one adventure to another as they encounter giants, elves, witches, centaurs, dragons, seers, friends, and many enemies. Through it all they become closer, and Garin begins to rely on Elani less as a servant and more as a friend. Elani learns the depths of her own strength as she defends Garin's life and her own.

I love coming of age fantasy stories, and I thought we'd be reading Elani's. But Garin is the one who changes the most by the end. In the beginning he was hopeless, he was quick to anger, insensitive, and selfish. You want Elani to shove him into a lake occupied by TWO water witches! It's only through his reminiscing with Elani that we see why she fell in love with him. By the end he's changed enough that we can see him being a good man as well as a good king.

I thought the world with its magical creatures was very interesting. I'd love to hear more about the world and its different kingdoms, legends, and prophecies. There is so much potential in a series like this!

The narrator did a great job, her voice is light and clear and easy to listen to. She has a young voice, so she was the perfect choice to narrate a book about a young girl. I was provided a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

My Review of

The Treasure of Isian Author Serena Clarke

I loved reading The Treasure of Isian because the book has a magical feel with sea-witches, ogres, dragons and many more mystical creatures that Elani and prince Garin come across on their treasure hunt. I also loved the devotion Elani shows to Garin and how their partnership changes over the course of their journey.

The story itself follows Prince Garin and his servant Elani as they go into an enchanting forest in the search of treasure. However, on their journey, they encounter mystical creatures, some helpful and others murderous. Soon Garin is captured and Elani is alone. Will Elani be able to save her prince, Garin? Will she discover that treasure is not always created the same? Will either of them get to see their kingdom again? Read this book to find out.

I really liked Elani’s character: she stays true to her heart and is loyal to those she cares for. But at the same time, her life doesn’t feel complete to her and she struggles to truly know where she belongs. I also loved the sea-witch; she seemed like a dark but playful creature. She reminded me of a siren who has the power to have even the strongest of man drown just with one look.

I thought the author did an amazing job at bringing Elani and Prince Garin’s journey alive with her beautiful descriptions and the many enchanting creatures they meet along the way. I also liked how she showed the many creatures in different levels of kindness, ranging from we will help you to we are not forgiving so we will fight you.

This fantasy-fairytale is an enchanting quick read and if you like movies like Stardust then you’ll love this book.

I can’t wait to read the other two in the series.

I would recommend this book to those who are fans of fairytale and epic-fantasy stories. So if you like magical creature and characters you can pack your stuff and be on a journey you’d not want to end. Give this book a read.

•audiobook• 1.5

But since the grammar and sentence structure is strong enough I didn’t edit every ten minutes, rounded up to 2 stars.
The Treasure of Isian began with a trove of world building and rich-filled characters. It was as short lived as shock of evil elves with razor teeth.
It’s difficult to explain how it fell apart. The sentence structure became clunky and the characters blended together as they seemed similar.
If she was spelled to love him and be his servant, then her feelings are not her feelings. And his declaration of love because she did his every bidding and allowed him to treat her badly.
If this mythical world did not consider that a ‘normal’ relationship, what kind of abusive relationship is this setting up? So now he loves her and he’s going to change?
FFS, gimme a break.
Emotionally charged dialogue and description was deus ex machina or just to add frustrations or evoke a false carrot in hopes the reader/listener will want them to be together.
The strong set up provided a disappointing crash and burn. I didn’t like this book and should have left it to my imagination after testing the sample.
In this case, it’s a rare incident where I’m not just inclined, but feel forced to return it.

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

This is the first book in the Isian series. Here, Prince Garin is a pompous prince who seeks out treasures and adventures. He is searching for the Treasure of Isian along with his soldiers and his trusted servant Elani. While searching for the treasure, they are attacked by the Giants and the soldiers are all lost. Prince Garin decides to continue the search with Elani. Along the way, they meet a variety of creatures.

This is a fantasy adventure which is suitable for all ages. It's an enjoyable story with several fun twists - not wanting to give anything away but Elani is not quite who she seems. I liked the character growth of the Prince. What ditracted from this story a bit, for me, is that this story really lends itself to humor - both from
the creatures and in the situations, which is what this really
missing from this story.

I listened to this book - the narrator did a nice job. She did various voices for the characters and creatures - which helped to differentiate who wss speaking.

I listened to the audiobook version of this book.

Really enjoyed the story and the characters. I think I found Elani to be a little too weak as a female character, however it was fitting for the time period that the story was set it. There wasn't as many fantasy features as I was expecting, they were present in the story but werent really apart of the story. The author takes us on a nice little quest and we meet some interesting characters. The ending is a little too convenient, but the love between Garin and Elani had a relatively real feel. I enjoyed watching the characters grow close as they realized their love for each other. Being the hopeless romantic that I am, I was still able to enjoy the impossibly perfect ending.

The narrator does a really good job throughout, but I feel like their performance was not as dramatic as i would have wanted for the ending and made the ending fall a bit flat.

Knowing the author, and having her personally hand me her book, was just exciting on its own. But when I read the book, it was AWESOME. It strings in fairytale romance with the typical damsel in distress but only when it’s necessary, and trust me, sometimes it’s necessary. (All the older siblings who get forced by their younger sisters to play romance doll games, you know exactly what I mean.) The book is truly extraordinary, and is definitely up on my shelf of favorites!

Prince Garin is all about seeking fame and conquest for his kingdom. His latest is The Treasure of Isian to find he is cut off from his soldiers. Now with only his servant Elani they continue on, and friendship grows. A good YA with a good fable story and good narration.

Real Rating = 3.5*

A YA Fantasy that took a while to really capture my attention

Source: I received this book free in return for an honest review. It is available exclusively from Audible.

BOOK DETAILS:
The Treasure of Isian by Serena Clarke, read by Carolyn Kashner, published 2016 / Length: 5 hrs 43 min

SERIES INFO:
This is Book #1 of 3, so far, in the Isian series. The first two are currently available on audio.

SUMMARY:
I really wasn't liking this book that much. If I hadn't received it for review, I probably would have skipped ahead to check out the end. But having done that, I would most likely have gone back and finished it after all. I liked the second half (or maybe the final third) much better.

Nothing about this book is outstanding. I had issues with everything: the characters -  Garin seemed contemptible, Elani a pathetic doormat, and everyone else irrelevant / the worldbuilding - elves who are really more like vampires?? / the plot - her situation, the quest, and the final revelations (which weren't even a tiny bit surprising) / and the writing style - especially the dialogue, which was clunky and contemporary (not historical) sounding.

So why in the world did I give it a 3.5*? Because, in the end, "I liked it" which is my criteria for that rating. I liked the changes in their relationship and in the characters.

CHARACTERS:
Elani: She learns how to stand up for herself. (Note: her situation reminded me strongly of Ella from Ella Enchanted, although it only worked for him.)

Garin: He turns out to be not so bad, and then goes on to experience some excellent character growth.

Elani & Garin: I think they will be able to find their equilibrium and be a very good couple. There were some very sweet moments between them.

HIGHLIGHT: Garin handles her constant vomiting with aplomb (no she's not pregnant).

NARRATION:
The speed was good on this one. My usual 1.25 speed was a little fast for a first time listen. Some of her male voices weren't great, but they were acceptable. There were some fictional accents, I quite liked the Isian.

*I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

This is another one of those books that I have a hard time rating. The story, itself, is good. Although, not very fantasy like; more of a fairy tale than anything. The whole time that I was reading, I thought of every fairy tale that I ever read as a child. And while that is a good thing, I still felt like something was missing.

Prince Garin seeks out to find the Treasure of Isian. Along with him is his servant Elani, who is secretly in love with him. Along the way, they face danger at every turn; wondering will they live to find the treasure. With giants and elves in their wake, along with a slew of other creatures, this adventure turned nightmare, will test their courage and will to the end.

Firstly, I really don’t like Elani as a heroine. She’s the sort of character that needs to remain in the background, for all intents and purposes. She pines after the Prince like it’s the right of her life. Honestly, I can see why; she’s been with him since she was a little girl. Everything that she knows, it’s because of him. But, along with that, she should be much stronger and not so naive to what she can be. There were subtle changes to her character with every twist of this story, but for every change, she reverted back 2 steps to the lovesick girl that she started out as.

The fantasy part wasn’t all that fascinating, as I love to see in this genre. It was very mild and reminded me of a fairy tale. The descriptiveness of the world and it’s inhabitants wasn’t at all directed towards fantasy. Yes, you have all of these different beings; but with the straightforwardness of the words and actions of the characters, I wasn’t convinced on this being a great fantasy book. I like the story for what it is, a good fairy tale-like book with just enough imagination to make you enjoy it. Recommend? Yes, if you like fairy tales. I wouldn’t suggest it to fantasy lovers, simply because I don’t think that it’s enough.

The Treasure of Isian by Serena Clarke is an enchanting action adventure story that will suck you in and won't let you go until you are finished with it. The story centers around 17-year old Elani, who is a full time servant girl to a prince. Unbeknownst to Prince Garin, Elani secretly loves him, despite his being betrothed to a princess from another kingdom. The story essentially begins when Garin, a band of soldiers, and Elani set out on a quest seeking the mystical Treasure of Isian. Along the way they encounter giants, elves, dragons, and a vengeful water-witch; and, Garin and Elani get separated from their soldiers; and, within a day they become separated from each other.

It is Elani's and Garin's separation from each other and reunion about a month later that transforms this story from being just another action adventure fantasy to a truly wonderful and engaging story. Garin matures from being a spoiled rich kid to a young man who grows to appreciate Elani as a young woman, and he feels embarrassed for the way he treated her over the past 13 years. His transformation does not happen over night, as does Elani's realization that she is more than just a mere servant girl. Elani's character is like a super hero: she kills the water-witch, frees Prince Garin from dragons, and finds the magical looking glass of Asian. And the ending was simply sublime!

I listened to the Audible version of the story and enjoyed it tremendously. I felt like I was watching a movie and couldn't help but remember how I felt the first time I watched the 1984 movie Romancing the Stone with Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, and Danny DeVito. Thankfully The Treasure of Isian is the first book in The Asian Series and I can look forward to listening to other great adventures in this compelling new series. Bravo!

The Treasure of Isian is the first book of a series that follows Elani and her master Prince Garin. It is fantasy, romance, and adventure all wrapped into a nice package.

Right when you start this book you are thrown into the adventure. You get to know the characters through their journey versus from backstories and that is refreshing for a fantasy novel. We follow from Elani's point of view as they are venturing to find the mysterious Treasure of Isian, soon after Elani is separated from her master and will do anything in her power to save him from any evils he is encountering.

The story is very much like a fairy tale. It has mystery and also princes and princesses and lost treasures and it gives you that vibe as you read it (or listen to it like I did). Overall the story is entertaining and will hold your attention well. The characters are where I had some trouble. Elani is ok, she is a servant and has to serve her master, but she is strong and determined and I like that in a character. However Prince Garin, her master, is rude and oblivious throughout most of the tale and then all of a sudden learns to appreciate Elani but it is a very drastic change it seems and I didn't like that.

I think that the overall story was a good one. It is the first in a series, but the ending is pretty tight so you could read it as a stand alone if need be. I think that lovers of fantasy and romance will enjoy this one and the audiobook was pretty good if you enjoy listening versus reading text . The only issue I had with the audiobook recording was the chapter breaks, they seemed too short, like the paragraphs just seem to end in random places... not sure why I feel that way but I did. End verdict - a nice fantasy read.

I would probably classify The Treasure of Isian as a fairy-tale novel. Even though it has elements of fantasy it isn't bogged down by over-descriptive details as books in this genre usually are. It is written in simple, straightforward language which helps to keep the plot moving and makes for a quick, fast-paced read.

Elani was a very impressive character. Her devotion and loyalty to Prince Garin were unparalleled even when it was not reciprocated and her faith allowed her to believe in their relationship despite Garin's ambivalence. These traits not only helped her romantically but also assisted her in making an important journey of self-discovery.

I also really enjoyed the evolution of Prince Garin's character. Most "heroes" are perfect in everything they do (which is definitely not realistic! :) But in The Treasure of Isian, Prince Garin starts out as self-centered, shallow, and spoiled. I loved watching how Elani's devoted love helped him recognize his faults and become someone who was worthy of her affection in the end.

One other element of this book that I liked was how there were many different connotations to the title. The theme of "treasure" was applied to a number of things over the course of the story but the underlying message was always that we should recognize and not overlook the most valuable "treasures" in life.

The Treasure of Isian is full of mystery, adventure, and romance. It is an enchanting fairy tale that will appeal to readers of all ages.

Overall, Serena Clarke gave us a book that is a sweet Disney-like fantasy romance (violence isn’t detailed, simple plot, light kissing, happy ending). While I could tell from the beginning where the book was going, I was still engaged in Elani’s character and in the dynamic between her and Garin. It was gratifying to see Garin’s self-centered behavior change over the span of the book. Elani’s character, however, only gained so much depth and then stopped and her overall goals never changed. While there are a few female side characters, she is pretty much the only female character with an important role. Some of the other female characters were evil witches, lust-filled battle harden crude warrior women, and a self-absorbed princess. The male characters had larger roles to play and fewer of them were evil or crude or selfish, which gave the tale an unbalanced quality in the never-ending Battle of the Sexes. However, despite these simple flaws, I still enjoyed the tale as the main characters felt like familiar friends by the end.

Prince Garin is a vain and shallow man as the story begins. His need for adventure sends him on a quest with his most valued servant, Elani. Elani would do pretty much anything for the prince. As they set out, they are almost immediately besieged by unforeseen complications--giants, dragons, water witches, etc.

As with most quests, progress is made toward the end result. A bonus with this one is the growth the characters went through as the quest moved forward. Elani is a strong and stable character, yet even she had to go through some challenging events that really tested her strength. Garin had his own share of difficulties. Sometimes, going through hard times uncover characteristics that weren't visible before. The transformation that he went through was great! I loved that these characters learned some great life lessons and what truly matters in life.

Full of twists and turns, this story was a fun journey! My only wish: I wanted a few more details and emotions shared.

I really enjoyed this story as well as the characters. I liked seeing how much Prince Garin grows and changes. Elani, doesn't change as much in comparison, but she does gain a lot of confidence in herself and she realizes she does have more worth and should be treated better (and this happens before the surprise ending - although I will say I had guessed the end). Even the supporting characters were interesting, and I found I wanted to know more about them (ie. Prince Ander... Jared... maybe the next book? :) here's hoping anyway...)

I liked the world they lived in - very interesting and new. It was not bogged down with details either - I have a hard time with some fantasy novels for that very reason. I liked how fast paced the story was. It was never slow, I was never bored.

Overall this was a fun, sweet romance and adventure story, that I plan to read again. I am looking forward to reading the next book The Alliance of Isian

Magical Journey 4.6 Stars
Held within these pages, is a creatively written, bewitching Love Story.
This tale begins as Prince Garin, along with a crew of soldiers and servants, which included his personal female servant, Elani, set out on a quest to find the Treasure of Isian.
The legend tells of a treasure that can grant every wish, but it can only be controlled by a worthy Prince.
Needless to say, the myth doesn’t describe exactly what the treasure is, but that doesn’t stop Prince Garin;
for he must have it.
This book is filled with mythical creatures, hopeless situations and monumental misconceptions, but hidden underneath it all is a meaningful message.
Author Serena Clarke has given us, through her vibrant imagination, a glimpse inside our own selfish hearts. Each of us is always seeking more….. when the ultimate gift of happiness could be right in front of you.

I love the mix of adventure and prophecy in this novel. Clarke takes readers away into an unforgettable and magical fantasy world with descriptions that paint the world in vivid colours. The magical creatures and diverse peoples that we meet kept me enthralled. All the while, the exciting and emotional plot was unforgettable. I loved how everything came together while also taking me on a great journey.

The mix of characters was astounding. They were all developed so intricately. Garin’s growth through his travels was astounding. I could really see the future king in him, as well as a human being that I truly liked. Elani was a bit of a mystery for most of the novel. I found myself questioning parts of her personality right until the end when the mystery was revealed. It was fantastic.

This is a book that I really had fun with. It is fantasy that will be loved by teens and adults alike.

Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

This book is light, quick to read, and uncomplicated. It's a nice fantasy adventure with a sweet romance blossoming along the way. Gavin and Elani both learn about themselves and each other as they go in search of answers about the mysterious Treasure of Isian.

The only downside was that I spent much of the book feeling like an observer. The details were sparse and the characters went through the motions without much fanfare. Otherwise, I really liked the story and the growth that both Gavin and Elani went through. I liked how their adventures brought them closer together.

If you are looking for a clean, light read for an afternoon, give this a try. It is suitable for both teen and adult readers.
