This book is a solid fashion guide, but at the end of the day it really just didn't teach me as much as I had hoped.
A lot of this book read as common sense to me, such as how what you wear can change how others view you, how "dressing to impress" is an ideal that rings true, and that wearing a pretty or sexy pair of underwear can change how you feel about yourself.
However, once the more magickal elements came into play, this guide became more informative to me. I appreciated that Whitehurst gave fashion advice for each element, and for each Wheel of the Year sabbats. While I knew what colors were symbolic of each of the aforementioned, I didn't realize that things like textures or fabrics in particular could help to harness more desired energy. There are also blessings that are given throughout the course of this book, which I thought was a nice touch to truly becoming a "magical fashionista."
I also really liked that the author made a point of mentioning how to dress down when one wants to be invisible. I know that I personally don't always want to confidently stand out in the crowd, no matter how pretty I may look. It was a nice mention that I think a lot of other fashion experts would have probably left out.
Plus, the cover of this book is really pretty. It's catching to the eye and is a good visual representation of the advice tucked within its pages.
I think that those who are looking to get the full potential out of their wardrobe and more fashionable pagans than I would get a lot out of this little self-help guide on being a more powerful you.
Thank you to Netgalley and Llewellyn Worldwide, Ltd. for my copy. This review can also be found on my blog, Bitches n Prose.
I've always loved fashion but this book makes it magical and fun! I had actually, due to money problems, found myself losing some interest in fashion until I read this book.
It inspired me to rethink my wardrobe in a way that upgraded me, as feeling good about yourself equals success and prosperity. My favorite aspect was our astrological signs have influence over our wardrobes and even the colors we're attracted to.
I learned, you can also choose your outfits by the days of the week and whatever planet is aligned for that day, which I use religiously. I chose a fashion angel, or in my case a fashion fairy, which was a fun exercise.
Reading this book quickly prompted me to go through my wardrobe, getting rid of clothes that no longer served me. By doing so, I made space for the new. Within a week, as if by magic, some new clothes showed up in my life.
This book has a lot of fun activities that you can do to play with fashion. I really enjoyed reading it and will definitely be reading it again soon.
It really opened up my mind about a lot of things and I learned so much about my style! Applying the knowledge has been fun and high-spirited. A great read for every woman or young girl, in my humble opinion!
I had received this book as a gift. Isn’t it interesting how you never know if a gift or book will change your daily habits and thereby your life? That’s what this book did for me. It made the mundane act of choosing what to wear a thoughtful experience and an expression of the self. It gives spiritual alignment with the day, the moon, and who we are. It’s the Law of Attraction by asking yourself who you want to be and following that with, why not choose to be that person right now?
I’ve explored colors, patterns, textures and styles. I’ve become more acquainted with the power of accessories to transform my confidence and therefore my energy. If you are in a rut in life or looking for a new perspective, I recommend this book to help you ask yourself who you are, what you want, and to embrace the power of expression.
Amazing book. Finally some mysteries decoded. The author is well read on the subject and blends in many schools of thought beautifully into an amalgam of advice. She has very good understanding of certain symbols and ways of things and just put it so plainly like its magic. Thank you so much for your generosity and open hearted sharing. Great references as well, a lot of which are in my to-read list. I'm planning on getting this for keeps next time.
This book left me wanting more - on how to tune into my inner goddess (as a envy with feminine energy) and how to honor the energy of those we wish to invoke or emulate.
Sitting with this for a few more days to go back and take the multitude of notes from what I’ve bookmarked. Review may change as I revisit this. 💛
Even tho I am not into fashion at all. I found lots of good self care information as well as great magical correspondences. Ones I never would of thought of like nail polish, hair color and even tattoos.
В книге содержатся рекомендации по выбору одежды на основании западной и восточной астрологии, а также магические ритуалы с благовоньями и камнями по наделению одежды определенными характеристиками.
I love this book! It's creative, thoughtful, innovative and grounding. It's not about striving for perfection, spending a lot of money or having to focus on consumerism and shopping. It is about finding and connecting with your inner fashion muse.
Dressing for the life you want is an intriguing idea to me, because it opens up myriad possibilities for the reader. How lovely to treat fashion as a creative expression that isn't just oriented toward pleasing a man or for career success. Rather, this book helps women further explore what they already know about themselves and discover other aspects. I'm finding that this book can assist the poets and the dreamers, the artists, the New Agers, the gardeners, retro hipsters, witches, adventurers, creatives, businesswomen and SAHMs tether themselves to various looks in a manner that is authentic self-expression that is fun, imaginative and grounding!
3.5 stars. Though there was a lot I won't use, as I'm not really going to do quasi spells and all, this was an interesting read. I liked the mish-mosh of different approaches and that she doesn't just have one "you should wear this, this, and this" approach I find in so many style books. I learned quite a bit about color meanings, and such, that I'm using and they are helping me develop a more personal style and remember that a lot of style is about attitude, and Whitehurst's is a positive, affirming one that I appreciate.
There is some good stuff in here but a lot of it feels like fluffy filler, and there’s a lot of the same reference information you can find in most magical books these days. I did find the section on astrology and elemental energies to be particularly interesting.
If you’ve never thought of fashion as magic and are just starting out, you will probably get a lot more out of this book than I did. I’ve been thinking of fashion as magic for 10 years now, so a lot of this felt redundant.
I picked up this ARC years ago at a library convention and got around to reading it, finally.
I liked this, a very creative way to look at your fashion sense. I liked the idea of using your spirituality and astrological traits to figure out your best style. I wasn't a fan of the spells, I'm not a believer in that aspect, but I liked the idea of meditation and speaking positively about yourself and the day's selections.
Interesting, magick-y stuff. I've read a lot of fashion books in my time and a few on magic. This is a creative and thoughtful and honest treatment of both. It feels personal from the author, and thought provoking for this reader.
3 Stars This is nothing like I thought it would be. It’s mysticism and finding the true you. A new-age type of self-help, but reachable to the more modern fashionista.
I will go back to this when I've got more energy, I'm sure. I was in a fashion & self-improvement mood when I bought it, but that dissipated before I really started it. Maybe later.
