Rocks are more than just objects meant for skipping across bodies of water. This book covers the origins of rocks and describes the many facets that they possess. Various aspects are included, such as volcanoes, minerals, crystals, and diamonds. The main facts are presented in boxes amidst cartoonish illustrations. The book contains a glossary and index for further study, and one page allows readers to participate in growing their own crystals. It is clear that the information is credible as the author added a special thanks to various advisers for their expertise and research. An aspect that seems unnecessary is the use of thought bubbles portraying the thoughts of the rocks as they undergo changes. Overall, this book will give young readers a basic knowledge of rocks and their formation, but there are probably other books available that handle the topic in a more enticing way.

The book, "The Rock Factory: A Story About The Rock Cycle" describes how
a rock is made and the different changes that it goes through. This book can be used for a 2nd grade science lesson in which students examine different rocks that they brought and categorize them as metamorphic, sedimentary, or igneous.

The rock factory is an information book about the rock cycle. However it reads like a story book. You follow a tiny mineral through the rock cycle, and at the very end you see what type of rock/mineral your rock becomes. A great read aloud for introducing the rock cycle.
