Mating Instinct by Katie Reus
Moon Shifter series #3. Paranormal dark wolf shifter romantic suspense. Fated Mates. Best read in series order.
Years ago, Kat Saburova had her heart broken by shifter Jayce Kazan. As a friend of the shifters, she was kidnapped and tortured (Primal Possession) by the radical Antiparanormal League. By the time she was rescued, she was near death, and turned into a shifter to save her life. Jayce Kazan is back in her life and he wants her. But she’s traumatized by her experience and hasn’t forgiven Jayce for refusing to make her his bondmate in the past. Jayce teaches her what she needs to know as a shifter as well as how to fight with her new sped and strength. She’s still being hunted by the extremists and Jayce wants her to feel comfortable and confident with herself, her new shifter family and with him as her mate.
The danger is not far enough away. Even though the manic that tortured Kat was killed when she was rescued, new ones are on the hunt to take down the shifters.

Dark and dour, Jayce is an enforcer with a mood to match the violence he must wield to protect his pack. With Kat, he’s passionate and possessive.
Kat has to go through a lot of emotions and feelings as she works through recovery from her experience. Jayce is cognizant of her possible triggers and is careful to give her space, love, and independence even while remaining close and protecting her. I wasn’t all that fond of Jayce until he was deliberate with his decisions in helping Kat in a few scenarios.
Suspenseful and powerful.

“If I'm naked, I'm inside you”

You all know I'm a sucker for werewolves. Specially alpha male werewolf. I love how they react to something or something, how angry and possessive they get, and how dominant and protective they are, and Jayce Kazan didn't necessary disappoint. Jayce is an enforcer, a man who everyone kind of fears. He is strong, fierce and kinda cool. I liked him. He wasn't my favorite werewolves, but he wasn't that bad. Oh and of course, he was pretty damn sexy ;)
"If you go to another male,I will kill him. That human tonight is lucky he's alive."

Kat Saburova was alright for a female lead. I didn't really care all that much, but she wasn't all that bad. I like that she didn't want to feel weak, that she wanted to learn how to protect herself. She was really independent and I admire that. Kat has been through hell, yet she's still standing on her own feet. She refuses to let Jayce in again after he broke her heart, and I can understand that, however, it went on to far, if you ask me. She's stubborn, I can tell you that. Perhaps too stubborn...
“If I wanted to kill you..."She slowly lifted off him until she was completely free. Her entire body tensed, mourning the loss of him filling her,but..."I'd do this,"she murmured as she shimmied down his body, bringing her mouth over his hardness.”

What I dislike, or more correctly, don't want, in this book is the POV of other characters other than the main ones. One or two chapters with others works, but not when the main characters just become characters with all the other characters. Gosh, I'm babbling. Anyway, the book was alright, not the best but I finished it so that is something. Truth be told, the book was more of a 'meh' to me. Not sure if I'll read any more books in this series. Book one was awesome, I enjoyed it a lot, but book two? Not so much. Book three? Well you are reading my review for it... I like (might even love) the cover though :))

I have been on a bit of a KR train of late and am virtually consuming everything she has written and the more I read the more I want! This series very much reminds me of Nicky Charles' Law of The Lycans (https://www.goodreads.com/series/5663...), which I loved....I don't mean by style or the content/storyline but in that as well as the PNR angle we are getting a really good background story which continues to develop through them all, leaving you wanting more. I cannot wait until the next instalment is released in January 2014.

If you like PNR then this is a series that you should grab!

I am going to thank a lonnng driving day for being able to finish this book in a little over a day. I was also very invested in these characters and couldn't wait to see how everything was going to play out. For someone who has a hard time with angst, I really have been enjoying second chance romances. This one did not disappoint. Sometimes when reading these I want to reach through the book and shake the characters and tell them to communicate and their problems would be solved, but no! We get to enjoy their torment and eventually their HEA.

Jayce and Kay dated about a year ago and Kat was invested. She was human at the time, and Jayce had let her know that the chances of her surviving the change were less than 1%. He failed to mention that they were 100% if he chose her as his bondmate which of course he didn't. What he also failed to tell her was that he only didn't want to do this because he was scared of how much his enemies would use her against him. See Jayce is the enforcer for the council for all of North America and due to his work, he has pissed off a lot of people. She ran away and hadn't heard from him for a while until recently when her world was once again rocked by his presence. She is on the other side of a kidnapping with a rescue that went wrong and now she is a newly minted shifter learning all of what that entails. She isn't ready to acknowledge that she never got over Jayce. She isn't ready to acknowledge how broken she is from what happened to her. But what if they just focused on the fact that they are attracted to each other and left the feelings to the wayside. Especially since as far as she knows, he doesn't want to have a future with him. But would she if he asked her to?

Jayce on the other hand has finally recognized that Kat is his forever mate. The one and only for him. He can't let her walk away from him again. Even if all he gets from her is her anger at least she is in his life. But things change when he starts to open up to her a little more than before. He tells her more about his past. He tells her things he hasn't told anyone. And now he thinks they might have a chance. She has slowly but surely brought her walls down for him too and of course they have some steamy reminders of how good they are together. Maybe he just needs to fully commit and she will too? But what if she isn't as invested as he is because he is allll in. He wants to be her bondmate. He wants the world to know she is his and he is hers. What does she want? And how can he convince her?

Ugh I once again LOVE these characters and being back in this world. I loved the dual POVs. I loved the past angst that neither of them could forget. I loved Kat finally acknowledging her abuse to her person and then realizing he is her person AGAIN. I am looking forward to the next book which will be Erin and Noah who have been circling each other this whole book, and what do you know but Jayce is a side match maker?? He is sending them on a mission together.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

This book takes place right after Primal Possession by Katie Reus, which I reviewed last week. So if you haven't read these books and want to there may be some spoilers ahead in case you don't want to spoil either of these books for yourself.

Jayce is the enforcer North America which means he goes after rogue shifters or shifters who have broke pack law and brings then to justice and if that means he has to kill them, he will. So he's made a lot of enemies and the last thing he wanted to do was to put Kat in danger by making her his mate or bonding with her even though he has very strong feelings for her. So she left him because she didn't want to feel like just a play thing when she had real feelings for him and he never explained why he was keeping her at arms length.

After the very bad things that happened to Kat in the last book, Jayce feels horrible that he couldn't find her in time to save her from what happened. So once again he's trying to keep her at arms length but it's really hard now that she's a shifter and doesn't understand all the rules to being a shifter.

Jayce wants to go after the people in the APL (Anti Paranormal League) who put her in danger and are putting other shifters in danger. These humans are making it harder and harder for shifters to live in peace and if they kidnap or kill a few shifters in the process, they don't care.

After Jayce and Kat have been fighting their feelings for each other so long I really thought I would see more romance between them but when they do give in to their feelings, it just felt like more lust than love which annoyed me a bit. The romance and their relationship took a back seat to bringing the APL members to justice. This book wasn't as good as the previous book, Primal Possession was for me. It was still a good book and got better towards the end when the action and drama really got going, so it was worth the read.

Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Each Moon Shifter book gets better and better to me. I know all the other characters in the story well (Connor/Ana, Liam/December, etc) so that makes it more fun to read. I hate letting go of characters so I love a good series. In all the the books Katie Reus takes us on quite the adventure. She writes in several characters’ points of view which allows you see a bigger picture and only makes for a big build up of how everything will come together at the end. There is always plenty of action, suspense, and just the right amount of love and passion. Sometimes I think humans complicate love and we could learn a lot from Katie's shifters. One of the things I enjoy most about her shifter books is that for most of the story, her characters are in human form and trying to maintain control of their “inner wolf.” It is more relatable that way.

In this story we find the Anti-Paranormal League (APL), an unofficial group of humans that wants to wipe out all paranormals, still functioning, despite losing some members in the last story. They are trying to turn the humans in Fontana against all shifters and do some very shady things in order to accomplish this task. In addition to that problem, there are people trafficking vampire blood which is like a drug to humans by giving them super strength.

Jayce has been sent by the shifter Council to check things out in Fontana. He certainly doesn’t mind since Kat is in Fontana and he is drawn to her anyway, especially since her attack by APL members. He hates that he was not there for Kat when she needed him most. He let her before because he didn't want her vulnerable to his enemies. When it comes down to it, he just can’t stay away from her. Kat went through a horrific situation in he last book and was near death when another wolf, Aidan turned her into a shifter to save her life. Kat is still having nightmares about the situation and never wants to be put in that position again. Because Kat was turned without given a choice, the pack allows her to live on her own and have a little space to deal with the post traumtic stress, as long as she has Jayce with her. Jayce trains her to protect herself and teachers her about what it means to be a shfiter.. During the time they spend together they realize how much they truly need each other.

It is so cool that Katie's shifters are able to scent all the emotions humans and paranormals put off. It adds such an interesting aspect to the story. We see glimpses of future stories in this one in Erin and Noah and hopefully Brianna and Angelo. I always enjoy Vivian's scenes, the little she-cub that Ana and Conner take care of. It looks like Jayce and Kat might have their hands full in future books with a teenage shifter, too. I just love how Katie sets up her stories. If you like shifter stories that have a lot of romance, action and suspense in them, I highly recommend this series.

Mating Instinct is an intriguing second-chance romance that follows exes Jayce and Kat who broke up over a year ago. Her heart shattered when Jayce dumped her, Kat wants nothing to do with Jayce. She doesn’t know he only broke up with her to protect her. But after a traumatic kidnapping that nearly took her life, Kat has become a shifter herself, and her life is being threatened again. Jayce, a shifter Enforcer, is determined to protect her from those targeting her, and hopefully, win back her heart.

Kat is a strong, sympathetic character who is coping with difficult trauma while navigating her new supernatural reality. She is a great match for Jayce, and I love that she never backs down and constantly fights for herself. Jayce is a classic alpha hero - bossy, growly, and fiercely loyal. I love how he's so feared by everyone, but he's a super softie with her. I loved watching their bond rebuild amidst all the drama and danger. Their chemistry is fantastic, and the romantic tension simmers from their very first meeting.

The plot is really good, too, and it kept me turning pages with its fast-paced action, suspenseful investigation, and looming threats in a world where supernaturals and humans reluctantly coexist. It’s an intriguing paranormal romance and one that readers who enjoy second chances, miscommunication, fated mates, and more will enjoy.

Quick & Dirty: Relationships are messy but Jayce needs to learn whether he can live without the woman he loves or risk it all for her love.

Opening Sentence: Jayce Kazan parked his Harley in front of December McIntyre’s house.

The Review:

One word for this book, “DAAAANNGGG!” This is one of the amazing results of getting to review books sometimes you will be blown away by a story, characters and author’s sheer brilliance to get a story told. This is one of those rare and elusive gems. There are not many authors who can be completely unknown to me and rocket to my favorite author’s list but Katie Reus has done just that. Now let me tell you how and why.

Eighty percent of this story is told from Jayce’s perspective, our delightfully charming and sinful hero. His motivations and presence on the page were ever present during this entire story. The reader is gripped by his angst, uncertainty and his passion for the one woman he would save from the repercussions of his own life’s work and his inability to save her when she needed him most.

The rest of the twenty percent we see into Kat Saburova’s life after a horrific torture and near death experience which resulted in her being changed into a shifter. She longs to let Jayce back into her life after leaving him 9 months ago due to his refusal to turn her when they were together but struggles with the fact that he lied to her which she may not be able to forgive.

The reader is also thrown into a mystery of the Antiparanormal League (APL) who are seeking to destroy the credibility of the shifters in Fontana, North Carolina through a series of unexplained deaths that are linked to a shifter. Often this divergent story is only used to fill up pages in a book but Ms. Reus used this story line to convey more of the main characters’ story very effectively.

Some of you maybe wondering about jumping head first into a series 3 books in? I say run to your closest bookstore or favorite online store and pre-order this book NOW. You will not be sorry. I’m looking forward to going back and reading the previous books of this series while I wait for the next two books to become available.

Notable Scene:

“What the hell are you doing here?” she practically shouted.

Before he could answer, Scott was next to her, in front of her actually, partially blocking her from Jayce. “Can I help you, buddy?”

Kat smiled haughtily at Jayce. At least Scott wasn’t a total wimp.

But then Jayce trained his gaze on the other man. Jayce was scary when he wanted to be, and as she watched his normally gunmetal gray eyes turn to black, she actually had to force herself to stand her ground. He growled low in his throat. “You can go inside your fucking house and leave us alone.”

FTC Advisory: Signet Eclipse/Penguin provided me with a copy of Mating Instinct. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

REVIEW: 4.5 stars- MATING INSTINCT is the third full-length storyline in Katie Reus’s Moon Shifter series focusing on the Armstrong-Cordona wolf shifter pack and their struggles with the Antiparanormal League (APL).

We were first introduced to Jayce and Kat in Primal Possession. Kat had fallen in love with Jayce and Jayce’s ‘wolf’ knew that Kat was his mate, but the human in Jayce feared for Kat’s life. Jayce is an enforcer for the Shifter Council and has made many enemies along the way. When Kat was mortally wounded and had to be ‘turned’ by another wolf, Kat ran from jayce believing he wanted nothing to do with mating a human, let alone Kat.

Mating Instinct follows Jayce and Kat as they are thrown together in the war against the APL. As an enforcer for the Council it is Jayce’s duty to ferret out rogue shifters and take down those responsible for killing other paranormal beings. But the war became personal when Kat was held hostage and left for dead, by the APL, the year before. Kat believes it is her right to take down the members of the APL and Jayce believes it is his right to protect Kat at all costs.

The relationship between Kat and Jayce was already established in Primal Possession but through the first half of Mating Instinct Kat refuses to acknowledge Jayce’s attempts at a reconciliation. The sexual tension is fraught with the pull of the ‘mating instinct’ and one Kat refuses to believe, As a turned wolf and not a born shifter, Kat was unprepared for the lifestyle and pack laws. More than once Kat has defied the Alpha when she refuses to accept what she has become.

There are several secondary story lines developing. Katie brings back many of her previous storyline characters allowing for a familiar feel to each successive novel. All of the couples we have met previously play an active role in Kat and Jayce’s story and we are witness to several developing relationship.

Katie Reus is one of my favorite authors. I am a huge fan of her Red Stone Security Series as well as her Moon Shifter Series. MATIING INSTINCT does not disappoint. Katie writes with an intensity that can be felt right down to your soul. There is plenty of action, suspense, and steamy sex and a little bit of humor to keep everyone smiling. Another fantastic storyline from the mind of Katie Reus.

The alpha-maleness of the Armstrong brothers featured in the two previous installments of Katie Reus’ series is undeniable but they have nothing on Jayce Kazan! I’ve been pining over this wolf since his character was first introduced and let me tell you, he did not disappoint! Mating Instinct is a testosterone laden, emotionally charged story that’s sure to get your motor running!

Kat Saburova is probably one of my favourite female leads so far in the Moon Shifter universe. She started this series off as human but she’s never appeared weak because of it. In fact, if anything, it makes her strength all the more admirable considering the hand that she’s been dealt. Despite what happened to her in the previous book she started this one off itching for a fight and she’s set her sights on her attackers, the APL (Antiparanormal League). Her new werewolf genes made her a little brazen at times to the point of recklessness but thankfully for her; she has one heck of a protector!

Reus’ enforcers are a unique subgroup of werewolves that are particularly badass and Jayce Kazan is the cream of the crop. He’s the embodiment of virility and damn sexy; from now on whenever I picture an alpha wolf I’m going to think of him. I love how he comes across as more animal than human and he’s hella scary in a fight. The relationship between Kazan and Saburova is rocky to say the least but as in most Paranormal Romances, their troubles stem from misunderstandings rather than genuine incompatibility.

There were a few inconsistencies in this installment that mildly irritated me. Brianna the fae warrior was one of them. She played a significant role in the previous book but in this one I couldn’t figure out what her purpose was. She pops up at the beginning of the story then all but disappears for the duration which made her side plot line (if you can even call it that) feel unfinished. The defeat of the APL was also anticlimactic considering they’ve been the main big bad in this series. I’m not sad to see them go because they were beginning to annoy me but I think the final showdown could have been more explosive.

A few hints are dropped as to which couple will be featured next in Avenger’s Mate and I look forward to seeing how Reus develops her new storyline now that the APL is ancient history. I’m under the impression that Katie’s vampires are about to give her werewolves a run for their money!

Another sexy shifter novel from Katie Reus, but this one has a bit more angst than the previous installments (and I liked it!)

Reus really managed to whet my appetite for Jayce and Kat in Primal Possession. The two dated nearly a year ago, but Kat left Jayce when she found out that he didn't want to become her bondmate. She thought it meant he didn't love her, but he was actually trying to protect her from the enemies he has made as an enforcer. --Anyway, Kat was kidnapped in the last book, then brutally tortured, and eventually changed into a shifter. Now, weeks later, she is still trying to deal with all that she has been through.

Jayce can no longer stay away from the woman he loves and decides to come back into Kat's life. The old spark is still there, but Kat tries to keep him at arms length. After all, she figures if she wasn't good enough for him as a human, things shouldn't be any different now that she is a wolf. But when circumstances force Kat and Jayce to live under the same roof and work together to take on the anti-paranormal group who kidnapped her... well, Jayce's animal heat becomes too much to ignore.

I really liked both main characters. I felt Kat's heartbreak and her reluctant love for Jayce. And even though he hurt her, I completely sympathized with Jayce as well. He really was trying to protect her and while he did lie, he was never unkind nor did he mistreat her. --The sexual tension is good (and the sex is hot,) but I was more wrapped up in the emotion in this one.

I have to say --once again, Reus did a fantastic job setting up the next book. I have been looking forward to Erin and Noah's story since Alpha Instinct and now these two are kicking things into high gear! Not only that, but we also saw groundwork for two other couples: Ryan and Teresa & Brianna and Angelo. The future stories are stacking up, and I can't wait.

I did kind of feel like the insertion of Leila into the story felt like a device for an insta-family. Maybe she'll be a bigger factor in future books, but here, her character felt unnecessary. A couple doesn't need a kid to have a HEA.

Rating: B+

Mating Instinct is Katie Reus’ third book in the Moon Shifter series. In Mating Instinct we get to see how Kat is adjusting to the events that happened to her in Primal Possession (bk 2, I would suggest reading this series in order).

They say change is good, but that doesn’t mean it is easy and nothing has been easy for Kat over the last year. She has walked away from the love of her life, was kidnapped, tortured and almost killed, then to save her life she has been turned. But even after all of this Kat has still come out on top. Maybe a little scared but she refuses to be anything but strong and more determined. The one thing Kat never planned was Jayce walking back into her life, demanding and on a mission to prove to her that she belongs to him and only him. Forever.

Jayce has tried in the past to protect Kat from his enemies, but he underestimated the humans of the world. Now Jayce had to live with the fact that he didn’t protect Kat when she need him most and it almost cost her, her life. Jayce vows to never let that happen again. Even when Kat puts herself in the crosshairs of her enemy.

I really did enjoy this book. There was two storylines happening at once so I was a little confused. Jayce seemed to be working on a case while trying to protecting Kat. But by the end of the book I understood what and where Katie was going with the dual storylines

I love Jayce & Kat. While Jayce tries to be this big-bad ass enforcer he does have a soft side and we see that with Kat and a new member of the pack. Kat is very brave after everything she has gone through. Stubborn yes, but very brave. Jayce and Kat are a great team and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for these two.

I am super excited about the next book in this series.

It was so easy to get into Jayce and Kat's story. I enjoyed the fact that Katie was able to set up scenes for other books to come out. It was like getting a sneek peak into a new book that would soon be coming.

This story flowed perfectly. It was like you can imagine it really going on.

Kat is a strong person who got stronger as the story went. She wanted to prove to herself that she could take care of herself if needed. She was guarding herself from being hurt a second time from Jayce. She was holding back her feelings. She thought there would be no chance of them ever making it work.

Jayce had stated his claim right in the begining of the book. He was jealous and stubborn. I loved that he expressed his feelings first.

Kat and Jayce balanced each other.

So far this has been my favorite book of the series.

I rather liked Kat, though I would've liked more information about her background- growing up as the daughter of an infamous arms dealer- and her psychic abilities. There wasn't a good introduction into how some people have psychic abilities. I also would've liked to know if she was considered an alpha, warrior, beta, etc. In general I think the author could've done a better job with the worldbuilding.

Jayce was pretty nice in general. He made the pretty cliche mistake of trying to push Kat away to protect her, but overall was a decent hero. I'm glad that he allowed Kat to go through with her plan of acting as bait even though he was very protective.

I definitely felt that Kat and Jayce had good chemistry and decent development. Overall the romance was nice.

The suspense was better than the previous books, and I felt more invested in the story. The next book with the vampire blood being trafficked was also set up nicely.

Overall, I'm rather enjoying this series. I highly anticipate Erin and Noah's story.

Kat and Jayce had a rough road to travel to reach their happy ever after. With Kat’s past traumatic events and her resulting change, Jayce had a lot to overcome. He had his own insecurities and guilt regarding what had happened. I ached as they struggled independently and together.

This is fraught with a dark danger that remains out of reach. With both new characters and those we’ve already met and loved, this book took twists and turns I never saw coming. The steam level was scorching and the ending was satisfying.

Mating Instinct is the third book in Katie Reus werewolf romance series (Moon Shifter), it follows the perspectives of Kat and Jayce, who we were introduced to in some previous books. This has a second chance romance trope, with a very protective and dominant MMC, which I love. I liked Jayce and Kat's dynamic and relationship development, they had a better connection, as well as history together so while it was fast development and tension it did not feel insta love. Kat was great at developing her skills both fighting and being a wolf, it was a great addition to plot, and she learned to take care of herself and be a total baddy! The writing was ok for me, I still want more development and detail when I am reading to help really help picturing what's going on and it lacked in some areas for me. It was a pretty good story, fun and entertaining, easy to follow, but it was just fine for me and easy, not something that really stuck with me.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book

Jayce Kazan is a shifter but hes also an enforcer, he is very old and has many enemies

Kat Saburova is jayce kazan weakness, hes avoided making her his mate due to the many enemies he has but when kat was kidnapped and then nearly died it was only by chance that she was turned and not by him, much to his regret

during her kidnapping kat was tortured so badly and jayce realised that he could no longer live without her but he has a lot of ground to make up and kat isnt making it easy

the apl are still around and are making it difficult for the pack and with the vampire blood being sold illegally jayce very much has his work cut of for him

brilliant read in this series, it just gets better and better...cant wait for the next book in this brilliant series to be made available

Honestly, this was my favourite book in the series. I loved it! I will admit, I did skip book 2, as I felt the whole plot was kinda outlined in book one...and I was right, didn't really miss a lot skipping it. But, it might be something I go back and read at another point.

Moving onto this book! I honestly loved Kat and Jayce. The chemistry they had and the banter they shared from being so so close before. I loved how badass both Kat and Jayce were, but both softies when it came to each other. While there was a bit of back and forth, it made sense and didn't seem too overly dramatic.

Really liked this one and would recommend :)

Mating Instinct🐺

Mating Instinct is the third book in the Moon Shifter series and focuses on the relationship between Kat, the newly turned shifter and Jayce, the Enforcer for the Northern region😳

Kat left Jayce a year earlier, when it appeared that her feelings for him were more than his were for her. She’s recently been turned into a shifter, when humans from a hate group against paranormals called APL, almost killed her. She’s trying to learn about her new life and on top of that avoid the man she loves😢 Jayce is in Fontana dealing with a few different issues on behalf of the Council, while also trying to win the super resistant Kat back❤️‍🩹

Lots happening in this one, but enjoyed all of it❣️ Can’t wait to discover more about Erin and Noah and hopefully learn more about Jayce’s brother at some point too hopefully🤞 I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review.

Finally the big bad enforcer, Jayce, gets his own story! We've heard about the one and only enforcer in the last two books. We even got glimpses of him when he came into town looking for Kat. But we finally get one on one time with him and I loved it!

This is not a book that you can read as a stand alone. Not only are the secondary characters a huge part in this book but in the last book Kat goes through some horrific things which are the cause of where she is in her life right now. So if you simply just started with this book, you'd feel really left out. Granted, the author does a great job in filling you in on what's happened (in case you need a refresher like I did) but you won't get that deep connection with the characters if you didn't read about what happened in the last book. Trust me on this, you need to read the series from start to finish. It makes it that much more awesome.

Now onto the goods. Considering what happened to Kat in the last book, she's a pretty strong character. She isn't afraid to put herself in harms way if it's for the greater good. Yeah she still has nightmares about what happened but she doesn't let it rule her life. Which is why when Connor (pack Alpha) orders that she have Jayce stay with her for protection, she tries to refuse. I really liked that even though she went through some rough stuff, she wasn't about to roll over and play dead.

Jayce... oh man. He's as bad-ass as you can get. I'm not talk about his shaved head, piercings, tats or his "don't f*ck with me" attitude. He's the enforcer. The guy who when shit hits the fan and the weres need some discipline, he's the one who will be knocking on your door. And trust me, you don't want him knocking on your door. However, when it comes to his ex, Kat, he's a sweetheart. He's afraid that getting too close to her and making her his mate will put a huge target on her back. After all, he has made a ton of enemies throughout his life and what better way to get at a guy than by taking out his mate? But with what happened to Kat, he's determined to use all the skills he's learned while being an enforcer and teach Kat how to defend herself if she's ever attacked again.

I loved that not only was this a second chance romance, but you get the suspense wrapped in since the APL (bad guys) are still out there hunting supernaturals. Jayce has found out that there is a dealer selling vamp blood which isn't good since it gives non-vamps extra strength and abilities. Plus there is a were going around murdering humans which is raising the local authorities suspicions.

Not only do we get Jayce and Kat though, we get in the mind of Erin, who is an enforcer in training. We met her in the last book and it looks like she may be getting her story next. Plus the Fae that we also met in the last book in more involved in this story. AND we meet a teen were who is seeking out Jayce in hopes of becoming an enforcer as well. So we get to catch up with old characters, learn a little bit about newly introduced characters and get an extra character added into the ranks.

This is an amazing series. Katie doesn't focus on just the romance. She adds in suspense, horrifying scenes, paranormal aspects as well as romance. I was ensnared in the story from start to finish. I literally read this book in one day and it's over 300 pages long. I'm not usually one that keeps up with series for an extended length of time. I always get bored by the 3rd book but this is looking like a series that I may see through until the very end. Katie keeps the stories fresh and new every time.

Favorite Part...
"Even now, when she wanted to pummel him for having the audacity to follow her, she still had to admire the strenght and power he radiated. He would never be called handsome,or even good-looking, but there was something dangerous about Jayce that was incredibly sexy. Without even trying, he exuded a raw sexuality that made women stand up and take notice. With his shaved head and a scar that crisscrossed over his left eye, he had...a presence that refused to be ignored. The scar only added to that edginess. And he was directing all of that at her with a very heated stare."

Review originally posted on my blog: A Book Obsession..

Jayce Kazan is a centuries old shifter and an enforcer who travels from incident to incident to clean up the mess, never staying in one place for too long. But all that changes when Kat comes into his life and turns his world upside down. But despite his need for her, he refused to make her his bondmate, so she kicked him to the curb. But then almost a year later, the unthinkable happens, and Kat is kidnapped and tortured nearly to death, and only saved by being turned into a werewolf like him. Jayce would have given anything to have protected her from that fate, so he's now determined to be there for her at any cost, even if he has to fight her tooth and nail every step of the way. She won't get away from him so easily this time as an old wolf only truly loves once.

After reading the previous book and seeing the foreshadowing of the tension between Jayce and Kat, I knew this installment would be a good one. Every moment between them in MATING INSTINCT just sizzles right off the page. She is the softness to his gruffness, and yet, she's no wallflower either. It took an incredible amount strength for her to walk away like she did when he couldn't give her what she needed even though she loved him with all her heart. It took even more strength for her to hold her ground once Jayce came back around and was relentless in his pursuit of her. Of course, she couldn't have known that he had loved her all along, but was foolishly trying to protect her. So much heartache between them could have been prevented if he had only had been a little more open and honest. But then again, getting an Alpha male to open up can be next to impossible, and Jayce is about as alpha as they come. I really enjoyed seeing this very hard and loner male slowly start to open up even as Kat took it anything but easy on him. The hijinks between them made for an incredibly interesting ride and made MATING INSTINCT my new favorite in the series.

For me, the Moon Shifter series stands out a step above the rest in the Paranormal Romance genre as I love how each book only builds upon the next. In so many books in the genre, the focus is only on the current couple, and hardly anyone else. But Katie Reus does things a bit differently in this series as the upcoming couple(s) are given a decent amount of page time as well. This really helps to tie the books together and makes the transitions between each installment much more smooth in my opinion. By setting the stage in the previous book(s), there's less time spent being introduced to the new couple during their book, which allows for a slower build up in the romance that I really enjoy. This time around it was Erin and Noah who were introduced as an upcoming couple in MATING INSTINCT. Based on what I've seen so far, I'm really excited to see how things play out for them in the next book. The sexual tension between them may even be thicker than what was seen between Jayce and Kat, and trust me, that is saying something. But putting that aside, what's even better than the foreshadowing was the way the past couples play such a prominent role in the current novel. I love getting to spend time with everyone together and that no one is left behind just because they've gotten their happy ever after.

With each new installment in the Moon Shifter series, my expectations are not only met, but exceeded, which is incredibly impressive as the bar keeps getting set higher and higher. Prior to this installment, the Moon Shifter series was already shaping up to be a heavy hitter in the paranormal romance genre, but MATING INSTINCT has fully cemented that role. An absolute treat full of sexual tension, and danger, MATING INSTINCT is not to be missed!

Breaking up with the love of his life was the hardest thing he's ever had to do but because of his fear that his enemies will turn their attention to her, he was not there when she needed him most. The hero has lived with the powerful guilt that he could have saved her from that horror of being attacked, nearly raped and changed into a werewolf.

Now, he's back in her life and something within him has changed. There is still the resistance towards further endangering her because of his job but deep inside, the wolf is not willing to risk the possibility that she will be taken away again. The heroine is still traumatized by her experience and it's kept her isolated from both her friends and her new pack. Perhaps she is through herself a pity party of one but it's hard for her to adjust to life as a werewolf...Especially now considering she can smell and feel the heroes desire for her. She is still angry over how things ended between them 9 months ago and the fact that he didn't love her enough to want to be her mate, but that doesn't stop her from loving him despite her anger. N

ow, he's taken a particular interest in her again and it's throwing her off. He's become her teacher, showing her how to fight, how to protect herself from both humans and the paranormal, giving her the tools to find peace with her new life. She slowly begins to interact with the pack though she is ignorant of a lot of things. She even begins to fall into old patterns when it comes to the hero. The kissing, the touching and the emotional involvement are all dangerous when it's obvious he has no plans to make anything between them permanent .

If only she knew how focused he has become on doing just that. His beast within is not willing to have his mate denied to him any longer and the man is struck dumb by how much love lies within him for this women. How he longs to sooth all of her pain and see her ever tear avenged. Now as he is called upon to find and kill the ones responsible for the recent shifter focused murders, the hero knows he must keep the heroine safe at all costs.

I can say that I enjoyed this heroine more now than I did in the previous books. I admired how quickly she broke free of her woe is me seclusion after the hero re-entered her life and gave her a reason to go on again. Not just with his love for her but also with his training. He gave her the tools to feel secure with herself again and that gift was very special to a woman who at one time felt completely powerless.

He involved her in his hunt for the bad guy not because he necessarily wanted her in the line of fire but because he knew she needed to find closure with her attack and purpose with her new shifter life. He made her feel needed. He was a dangerous man. Just his name sparked fear in the hearts and minds of those who had reason to draw his attention and he was a badass that lived up to that reputation. But with the heroine he was always tender. Arrogant yes. Possessive defiantly. But always selfless and aware of what she both needed and wanted.

I really liked them as a pair though I felt maybe their reunion back into lovers as a bit too fast considering how tense their interactions have been to date but you could tell that what lay between them was real.

I liked the story, I liked the investigation and the heroines education into the world of shifters was the readers as well. Perhaps a bit slow at times? That was my main con with the whole thing. I was also not blown away by the story as it was rather predictable and routine in his development.

The sexual tension between Kat and Jayce was intense in Primal Possession. I knew going into this book that they were going to have a volatile beginning to getting back together. I’ve been looking forward to the nail biting they would induce. Kat has the wrong impression as to why Jayce didn’t want her as a bondmate when they were together. She doesn't know the real reasons. Jayce is a true alpha male in that he thinks he is protecting her when all he is really doing is pushing her away.

Everything Kat has ever known and trusted has been turned upside down. The once human woman is now a shifter. She is trying to get back control of her life. Her kidnaping and attack have left her scarred in many ways. Jayce hates that he was not there to protect her. He hates himself even more that he was not there to save her. The whole experience opened his eyes to something he had been in denial about. He can’t live without Kat. He now has the opportunity to protect her and in the process he is hoping to get her back in his life permanently.

I just loved Jayce. He doesn’t give up on Kat. He knows how to push all of her buttons and he utilizes this and pack life to wedge himself back into her life. He never wants to feel the helplessness he experienced when he couldn’t find her after her kidnapping. He is such a persistent male. He also knew Kat well enough that he knew he wouldn’t be able to protect her by hiding her from the world. He trained her to be able to protect herself and utilize her new shifter abilities to the max.

I so badly wanted to give this book five stars. It was Kat’s eagerness in her role of the end fight that didn’t sit well with me. She does something extraordinarily brave, but it contradicted what she had been through in the previous book. I could be wrong but after having gone through what she went through I do not think any amount of desire for retaliation and revenge would have lead her to want to go there again.

My absolute favorite thing about this series is the fact that humans know that paranormal beings exist. I love the stress it puts in that world. Humans are prideful beings, tell them they are no longer top of the food chain they will have a certain animosity towards the others. I love the villainess that the APL brings to this series. I love an evil villain that has believable reasons behind the hatred that made them a villain. The Anti Paranormal League has that.

I whipped through this series because I received this book as a review copy and I didn’t want to pick up the series in the middle. I am so glad that I did start at the beginning not only is this a great series but I think without having the back story this book would not have been as good. We meet Kat in book one and I have to admit she’s a bit of a bad a$$ and makes an impression. We then learn more about Jayce and Kat as a couple in book two, where they are quite the scene stealers. Both these characters have strong personalities that create sparks and massive amounts of sexual tension, by the end of book two you are ready for Kat and Jayce to get their own book!

At the start of this book, we are coming out of a bad situation from book 2. We are worried about Kat and the trauma that she went through. Jayce is about out of his mind with worry but Kat is not letting him in. Jayce knows he has to earn Kats trust all over again, but if anyone is up for the task its Jayce. I love me an alpha male, all dominating and sexy, that just exudes power and Jayce is all of these and then some. He’s one of the most powerful shifters in the US and he knows it. A man with confidence is such a sexy thing and Jayce has it in spades, except when it comes to Kat. She tore him apart when she left him, and he hasn’t been the same since. He knows he’s messed up and now he has to fix it, but the willful Kat is not making it easy on him. I say go on girl, make him work for it! A little groveling never hurt a man!

Kat has had a time of it lately. Kidnapped and tortured she is trying to find some sort of control in her new life. She never expects that the control that she needs will come from Jayce. He seems to understand what she needs. She is finding it harder and harder to resist him, but he’s broken her heart before and she cannot let him break it again. I really enjoy Kat as a character, she is fierce and determined. I like a feisty character! She takes an extreme circumstance and tries to make due the best that she can. She doesn’t whine and complain but forges on.

This book is full of action and drama, it is sure to keep you entertained from beginning to end. All your favorite characters are back from the previous books and we get a few glimpses for the next couple to come. I cannot wait for book four to release. I am a new fan of this series and will definitely be continuing on!

Rating: 4.5

Jayce Kazan may be the revered and feared enforcer for the North America Lupine council but one woman has the power to bring him to his knees. Unfortunately for Jayce he made the stupid decision to leave the woman he loves because being with him will make her a target and as a human she was more vulnerable. However, things have changed. The woman he loves was brutally attacked and now she is wolf like him.

Kat has had a brutal year. The love of her life ditched her because she’s human and then she suffered through a devastating kidnapping attack from the Anti-Paranormal League. Now she must learn to live with her new wolf instincts with her ex stalking her every move. Kat wants to strike back against those who harmed her but it’s hard to do with Jayce sticking his nose in her business. He left her after all and if he thinks he can have her now that she is a wolf he’s deluded.

When vicious attacks on humans point to the local pack Jayce is out to discover the culprit especially when he finds a link to Kat. Jayce will do anything to protect Kat from harm but will he be able to win her heart back?

I can sum up Katie Reus’ Mating Instinct in three little letters…WOW! I am continually blown away by Ms. Reus’ Moon Shifter series. When I open the pages I feel like I’m visiting family. I become immersed in the story so deeply that I feel like I am amidst the characters joining in on the action.

I love Ms. Reus’ characters! Jayce and Kat rock Mating Instinct! There are so many emotions between these two you can feel the firestorm brewing and when the passion explodes between them…well let’s just say it’s spectacular. Whether it’s their emotions or their heat between the sheets, Jayce and Kat sizzle! However, it is their battle with their emotions that makes this story sensational.

The Moon Shifter series has great potential. There are so many characters that I cannot wait to read more about. Ms. Reus does a wonderful job of integrating characters into her stories slowly letting us get to know them. There is so much sexual tension going on at the Armstrong/Cordona Pack compound. I look forward to seeing these potential couples find romance.

Mating Instinct gives the reader an outstanding plot and more importantly unparalleled romance. This series keeps getting better and better and I love Joyfully Recommending it!

I absolutely freaking adored this installment in the Moon Shifters series! It might just be my favorite in this series. I've always been intrigued by Jayce and Kat's story ever since we were first introduced to their characters and I was so happy when I knew they would be getting their own book. The past between them hasn't always been easy and it seem as if things left off on a bad note. So lets just say things between the two were a bit hostile in the beginning :)

The first thing I loved about this book was that even though Jayce and Kat dated seriously in the past, there wasn't an immediate relationship. Of course they still have feelings for each other, but it was nice to see them rebuild the relationship they once had. Now Kat was a bit hardcore in this book. She wasn't playing any games when she said she didn't want to get back into a relationship with Jayce. The girl can be so headstrong! Sometimes I got a bit annoyed when she acted like he was a plague out to kill her because it was obvious she still cared. I was like come on already. throw the poor guy a bone! And on that note, Jayce was so bad ass! Ugh, I LOVED him :) I was so mad when the book ended because I wanted MORE! I completely fell for these two characters and their romance :)

Also, the book was fill with great entertainment and action. Side note: I would love to see more of the cubs in these books. They're so adorable! Anyways, this was a great addition to the series and I thought it was a definite page turner. And the ending was just a heart warmer! I really liked Leila and would love to see more of her. I just thought that was so cute. Jayce's reaction when she said she hacked into the Enforcers forum...Priceless!

I can't wait to read the next book, which I see is Erin and Noah's story! Those two crack me up :) Thanks so much to Netgalley and Courtney for sending me a eARC of Mating Instinct. It was a great surprise and I truly appreciate it :) All thoughts are my honest opinion!

Full Review posted on Book Lovin' Mamas

If you have read the first two books in the series, you'll enjoy this installment.  If you haven't read this series yet, what are you waiting for?  Add it to your TBR to read later or get it when it comes out and start reading.

I am curious about what is going to happen next, especially when it comes to the APL.  Will they ever find out who is running the show...and what about certain characters that I want to find out more about?

I highly recommend this book and give it 5 full moons.  If you love the paranormal romance genre, love shifters, and love Katie Reus, you need to read this book and series.  =)

I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a solid three ⭐️ for me. There really wasn’t anything too memorable in it for me. I didn’t feel like this book advanced the plot of the series as much, for some reason. Kat and Jayce were fine together, but there was so much miscommunication and will-they-won’t-they between them that it was kind of like, ok, get on with it. I also didn’t love that this book was more I eternal to Kat and Jayce and less focused on the other pack members. Kat played such a huge role in December and Liam’s book, but they were essentially nonexistent in this book. I’d like to know more about Erin’s story, but I’m not sure I have another book from the series in me.

I received a copy of Mating Instinct for free from NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Kat is the newly turned shifter, turned as a last chance to save her life, and she´s got troubled finding her place in the pack.
Add to that, her ex is back. She left Jayce when she realized that he never intended for anything lasting, and since she was head over heels, she dumped him and ran, before he could leave her.
Jayce is the enforcer, in town to investigate the shifter murders spreading in the area, and at the same time, win Kat back.
He couldn´t forget her then, and being near makes it even harder not to claim her.
Smutty fluff, shifters and suspense in a yummy combo! Love this series.
