I am a Hero ha vinto nel 2013 il 58° Shogakukan Manga Award nella categoria generale.
Hideo Suzuki è un trentacinquenne, un assistente mangaka e un fallito. Da anni vorrebbe sfondare, diventare un mito grazie a una nuova incredibile serie, ma finora è riuscito solo a barcamenarsi tra la strana storia con la sua ragazza e le sue delusioni. Tuttavia il mondo sembra avere dei piani diversi per lui: sinistre e oscure macchinazioni cambieranno la realtà che ha imparato a conoscere... Sarà pronto a diventare un eroe?
Già dal numero precedente Hideo s'era dimostrato più Hideo che mai, nel senso di "eroe", il significato degli ideogrammi che compongono il suo nome. Nel 9 lo troviamo più deciso, più svelto e sicuro col fucile, che gli vedremo usare spesso, facendosi forza... "I Am A Hero", dopotutto..

Kengo Hanazawa (花沢健吾 Hanazawa Kengo, born January 5, 1974) is a Japanese manga artist known for his seinen works. He won the Topic Award of the 2005 Sense of Gender Awards for Ressentiment and was nominated for the 3rd, 4th and 5th Manga Taisho for I Am a Hero.

This volume consists of two parts
part 1 the story of a Japanese manga publisher or editor?
It looks like he has some kind of relationship with Hideo suzuki.
This manga editor is on an adulterous vacation in Taiwan with another manga artist, she turns and runs after him and we know now that the virus reached Korea and they are fighting it.
It also reached China and Taiwan ofc.
part 2 is about acquiring food which they eventually acquire.
So yeah nothing much is happening in this volume a complete waste of 200 pages.

Questo numero si apre con un excursus a quanto è avvenuto in Corea, il tutto raccontato da un protagonista del contagio. Scopriamo che gli ZQN sono ben più estesi del solo giappone, e lo scopriamo nella maniera migliore e più naturale: con una piccola storia a non lieto fine, raccontata in soggettiva da quello che poi diventa uno ZQN. Si prosegue con la fuga di Hideo Suzuki, Oda e Hiromi. Cercano di raggiungere un ospedale, ma lo trovano infestato di mostri, quindi ripiegano per un negozio di souvenir isolato, ma per prendere delle provviste Hideo, che lentamente e controvoglia si sta trasformando in un eroe, deve uccidere il proprietario e una donna che ha partorito poco prima di trasformarsi. Al solito: I am a Hero è una bomba!

This is a good volume. It starts with a side story of how the 'virus' goes on the loose in Taiwan, following the story of two Japanese people who go there (a manga artist and her editor), and then goes back to our trio on the loose, Hideo and company on the car, running away from the mall, with no clear destination or future. The action as always is perfectly depicted and drawn, the action scenes are great, and the mood and the fear factor fit are superb.

The best: that feeling of dread; the depiction of the action

The worst: maybe the side story is a little bit more of the same

Aunque no avanzo mucho la historia, con este tomo nos dimos cuenta que la devastación esta pasando en otras partes de Asia y además, pudimos conocer a otros personajes mas viles y espeluznantes.
Nuestro protagonista debe luchar con sus miedos internos y sus valores y nos damos cuenta en esta parte de la historia que el camino a la salvación es bastante difícil de alcanzar.
Los gráficos siguen siendo muy gore y muy explícitos y bien detallados. Y el papel femenino en esta historia es trascendental. Aunque puede caer en algunos cliches de la novela zombie, me esta agradando como esta llevando la historia Kengo Hanazawa

Luego del escape del asentamiento, el autor se toma unos capítulos para contar que pasa con el editor de Hideo, que viaja a Taiwan. Ahi vemos como en otras zonas del mundo también hay ZQN, implicando que la infección ya llegó al resto del mundo y no solo a Japón.

En la segunda parte del tomo, Hideo y Yabu tratan de encontrar un hospital para Hiromi, y se encuentran con un negocio turístico en donde ocurre la que es para mi la escena más perturbadora de la serie hasta ahora.

Este es un volumen un poco más lento, pero no importa, porque el manga está buenísimo igual.

Ahora los protagonistas han conseguido escapar, pero la vida afuera del centro comercial tampoco es más sencilla. Con Hiromi lastimada y hospitales infestados, sus posibilidades se ven aún más limitadas.
Este tomo fue más que nada "tranquilo", lo que me sacó de onda fue el ¿feto/bebé? Zombie.

Sejenak kisah di volume ini beralih dr perjalanan Hideo. Diawali dengan kisah editornya Tanami-sensei dan juga calon editornya Hideo yg di volume2 awal dikabarkan susah dihubungi. Ternyata beliau sedang pelesiran dan sudah "menerima" akibat dari fenomena tsb.

Eins kann man dem Mangaka lassen, der lässt wirklich kein Tabu aus bei den Zombies :D ich wollte wirklich keine gerade gebärende, schwangere Zombiemutter sehen.

Ahí la lleva la historia, ya no tan activa como antes, pero mantiene una buena trama

Di bagian awal volume ini sempat merasa bingung sedikit karena ceritanya bercabang. Alih-alih memperlihatkan kelanjutan kisah Hideo yang melarikan diri dari outlet mall, pembaca justru diperkenalkan pada dua karakter komikus yang berkunjung ke Taiwan. Tanpa mereka sadari, ternyata kunjungan mereka tersebut menjadi awal dari akhir kehidupan mereka! Dan seperti biasa, Kengo Hanazawa berhasil membuat sebuah plot cerita yang begitu mencekam dan mengerikan ...

Lalu balik lagi ke Hideo. Dalam volume ini hanya menceritakan bagaimana mereka bertahan hidup dengan mencari makanan dan air bersih. Tapi adegan ketika Hideo harus berhadapan dengan "mereka" yang dulunya tinggal di restoran di semacam rest area di jalan tol itu benar-benar menunjukkan kualitas Kengo Hanazawa sebagai penutur cerita kelas wahid. Merinding!

It starts with the diary of a Chinese editor on a trip in hong-kong, how he sees the news of some attacks on Corea, and then his girlfriend transforms and attacks him, and how he hides in the hotel room while the infection grows. Nice pause to show how the zombies are not only in Japan.

Then back to our story, they make a stop at a hospital, filled with zombies, a vending machine, where they pay instead of trying to break it, and a convenience store with just 2 zombies, where Hideo gets food. Kind of a slow volume, I guess it was needed after the chaos from the mall, but our 3 survivors basically just drive around.

Si Hideo dan Yabu ini pasangan yang cocok. Lucu dan agak "kacau", tapi bisa saling tolong satu sama lain. Semoga mereka bisa bertahan lama di manga ini. *takut terjadi apa-apa sama Yabu.

Di sini ceritanya cuma lari dan berusaha mengumpulkan makanan dan minuman, tapi intens banget. Antisipasi akan zombie yang muncul itu yang bikin deg-degan. Pertarungan Hideo vs. ibu-anak zombie juga seru.

Nomor yang sederhana kalau mau dibandingkan dengan volume-volume sebelumnya, tapi karena itulah saya kasih bintang 5. Sederhana, tapi lucu dan menegangkan.

Después de esas oleadas de adrenalina, aca Hideo y Susuki se muestran mas humanos, se dan cuenta que han pasado a través de un montón de "#$%&/ y solo queda seguir adelante. El final del tomo retoma un punto humano , en el cual Hideo sabe lo que tiene que hacer, aunque esto sea un asco, dejándonos cierto repelus al final. Se vuelven a pasar con las splash pages , las cuales se comen el espacio .

Gee, I live in a zombie infested world, and I need provisions. In Japan, they still free like they have to pay, when money is nothing now. I would raid for every last calorie I could carry, and the vending machine I would have smashed open.

The Japanese tourist guy from Taiwan comprehended it quickly that it's a zombie so he didn't hesitate to beat the infected girl. So why's the instinct of the main character from the start didn't tick? Also, why the hell they bother to pay the vending machine for drinks? Don't they realize it already?

Lastly, why not break the manacle and just pee there in the road, side of the road or in the grass?
