I'm in love with this book!!! I'm no cook, so I love that these recipes are all easy and contain only 5 ingredients. I am also obsessed with my slow cooker and trying to find good recipes for it. What I especially like with this cookbook is that you don't end up with a lot of extra, wasted ingredients like you do with other recipes. It's also cheaper cooking when you have to buy less ingredients. I read the book cover-to-cover and am excited to try all of the recipes I flagged. Cooking can't get easier, so I'm so thankful for this book!

This is another small ebook which focusses on fuss-free cooking, keeping it simple and sweet. This time a collection of 50 different single-dish dinners that use no more than five ingredients are consolidated for your pleasure, all of which are slow cooker-friendly, meaning you can prepare it in the morning, leave it to cook and come home to something hot and tasty! The recipes are taken from the larger 2007-released "Fix-It and Forget-It 5 Ingredient Favorites" book by the same author.
To get the most use of this book it probably helps to like chicken as this dominates the list of recipes. This is no book for vegetarians either. The recipes themselves are basic, to-the-point not overladen with flowery prose. You get to see at-a-glance the typical preparation and cooking time, the ingredients and rather curt instructions. Rise and repeat throughout. This is, in itself, not a bad thing although an ebook of this nature could and probably should have photographs every dish to help guide and inspire the reader. Even if dishes such as Chicken Cordon Blue, Sweet and Soured Chicken or Easy Beef Stew hardly need an introduction. There are some photographs, but there is no rhyme or reason that this reviewer can see as to why some recipes have a picture and some don't.
The book is unashamedly American in design, so foreign readers will have to convert often abstract measures such as what is a 4-qt pot or a half-cup size for themselves. A rather bizarre omission in this ever-global world. In 2013 such omissions are more noticeable and more annoying, there is just no excuse. The book ends with a series of basic tips that probably every slow cooker user already knows, but there is no harm in reinforcing good advice one supposes.
This is a good little book with a reasonably good selection of recipes at a low price, enabling the reader to dip their toe into the metaphorical water and try a number of possibly new cooking or cuisine styles for themselves. It is just the packaging and execution that leave a bit to be deserved in 2013 where the desktop publishing revolution and ebooks are hardly revolutionary or experimental.

5-Ingredient One-Dish Dinners is just that - a quick cookbook filled with recipes using 5 ingredients or less. A 5 ingredient or less recipe is explained in the beginning:
1.Any recipe with 5 - or fewer - ingredients.
2.Water does not count.
3.Salt and pepper count as one ingredient.
4.Ingredients listed as optional do not count.
5.Non-stick cooking spray does not count.
6.The base over which the recipe is to be served does not count (such as rice, pasta, or crackers).
Pictures are included in some of the recipes, but not all, and each recipe includes the prep time, cooking time, and ideal slow cooker size (differs with each recipe).
The recipes are all simple to prepare (literally fix and forget it) which make them good choices for busy nights during the school year or game seasons. There wasn't too much variation between the recipes, and there is a tremendous amount of processed foods throughout. This book wasn't intended for nutritional purposes, strictly on time and ease of preparation. Handy book for busy parents, or young adults newly on their own and familiar with a slow cooker.
The best tip was from the Chicken Enchiladas recipes:
"To remove enchiladas or meat loaf from your cooker, make foil handles to lift the food out. Use double strips of heavy foil to make 3 strips, each about 20" x 3". Crisscross them in the bottom of the pot, and bring them up the sides in a spoke design before putting in the food. The handles should stick out of the cooker about 3 inches on each side, just enough for you to grab hold of securely."
Great tip for anything 'molded' or layered that needs to be removed from the slow cooker.
Again - this is a SIMPLE cookbook. Nothing fancy but good to have if you're a jam for time.

I read this book on a 1st-generation Nook.
As a person who loves to cook in a Crock-Pot, the Fix-It and Forget-It series is a great find. I am also a person who loves collaborative cookbooks such as the kind put together by church groups or school groups for fundraisers and I liked that this book has a similar feel. People aren't going to submit recipes that aren't any good; they are going to submit recipes that have been successful and popular for them.
I liked that this book had a nice variety of recipes. All of the recipes are very easy, so even beginning cooks can make them. If you are looking for vegetarian recipes or soup recipes, then you will need to look to other books in the series because this one primarily focuses on meat and poultry dishes. I am eager to try some of the recipes out because they sound so good.

This was a refreshing and pint-size cookbook from the famed "Fix-It and Forget-It" collection.
Instead of hundreds upon hundreds of recipes to choose from - which can be quite overwhelming - this cute little 50+ page gem has what I want without all the perusing and page shuffling. I own two of those monster volumes - and while sometimes it's fun to recipe surf, most of the time I want a limited number of great recipes to choose from instead of a countless variety that I have to sift through.
I love my slow cooker because it's simple, and I love these recipes because they contain only 5 ingredients (water doesn't count!). How simple is that?? With 3 kiddos, simple = sanity. And most of them actually look like they'd be eaten in my house. Yay!
Thanks NetGalley for the preview of this deliciously simple cookbook.

This is a very simple cookbook & it has several recipies my kids would love... Don't be technical about the 5 ingredients, because water & salt & pepper don't really count.
Yes, this was a good book. It is a compilation of recipes people have submitted. The best kind of recipe is when you get them from your friends, so I put this in that category.
I had a couple problems with some of the recipes though because sometimes it's better to brown the meat before putting it in a crockpot, so I'm not really sure how well they would turn out. And some just weren't to clear if it's raw or cooked meat you put in... I was assuming raw, but.... I wasn't positive. Most recipes are more detailed.
These are also football season late fall to winter recipes where when you come home from practices on a cool night, you can eat without being to tired to cook... AND prep time is fast...

The recipes in this book are fairly straight forward 5 ingredient recipes for the slow cooker. These are not super fancy meals. This are good old fashion get food on the table for a family meal. I liked the book, the recipes I could try. (Stupid tomato allergy...no tomato sauce or ketchup for me).
I also had a bit of trouble adjusting a few of the recipes for my smaller slow-cooker. If you are looking for a nice small cookbook for easy meals that do take 100s of ingredients give this one a try.
Received copy from NetGalley for honest review.

August 21, 2013I received an ebook of this from NetGalley for purposes of review.
I'm a big fan of this cookbook series. I have a few myself at home for personal use and this one is no different. The best thing about this is how simple the recipes are. You don't have to have a huge list of ingredients, and you can just throw them in the crock pot. Voila! Done. Well, it's not so easy as that but you get the point. I'm not sure (haven't checked) if this is available for hard copy purchase, but if it is you can definitely consider me a future buyer. Thanks!

This is a simple crockpot recipe book, very easy to make, with around 5 ingredients. Especially good for a beginner or someone who doesn't not know how to cook. You can add your own ingredients to make it the way you want to. I love that you can put it together in the morning and just let it cook all day. That is great for people who work, are very busy and/or have children.
I received this book from netgalley.

My opinion: I have heard about the Fix It and Forget It series, but have never ventured into them before having the opportunity to review for Open Road Integrated Media. I must admit that I wasn't that impressed. This "snippet" book reminded me of old fashioned crock pot recipes that were popular when crock pots first came out and cooks weren't aware of all the things they could do.

This book includes recipes that can be made with five ingredients or less. Each recipe lists serving size, prep time, cooking time, and ideal slow cooker size.
I did not care for the recipes in this book. I found the recipes to be too simple; I could have come up with these on my own. I also would have liked to seen more photographs of the finished dishes.

I personally enjoy cooking with my crockpot. It makes dinner so easy when you can toss things into it and set it on low then let it cook while you are busy with other things.
The book was geared to 5 ingredients but I found that many had optional ingredients that should have not been optional in this reader (and in this cooks mind…).
I received the book for an honest review, thank you.

Like all Fix-it and Forget-it cookbooks, this one has super easy recipes all of which can be done in a slow cooker. All the recipes use five ingredients (some use six and one uses seven - if you include the options). They are quick, easy, and delicious. A definite recommend for a download.
