5 Words: children, magic, spells, honesty, learning.

At first I couldn't stand the twins. They were so spoilt, so selfish, such little brats. But then I put on a sing-song voice and I disliked them a little less.

This is not a story I'd personally recommend. There are better witch stories for kids out there. Nevertheless, this was quite fun and it teaches a valuable lesson: don't be a brat.

I received a copy of this for free via NetGalley for review purposes.

Witch Twins is about Claire and Luna Bundkin, identical twins who are witches. In the novel, the twins want to stop their dad from remarrying another girl because they believe that this girl will take their dad away from them, so they cast series of spells to try to stop the wedding day.

Witch Twins is a great read that I believe graders would really enjoy. When I read this book, I tried to keep my point of view in a kid's perspective, and I was really able to enjoy it. I think kids should read this one because it started out with the twins being naughty and wanting to do something bad, to actually doing it, to realizing their mistakes, to changing and growing up. It's a great book for kids especially since this is the age in which growth is very crucial.

Witch Twins was great, and I hope that more kids would read it.

Ten year old witch twins decide they do NOT want their father to marry "Fluffy," his flashy fiance from Texas! How do they try to stop the marriage? They attempt to use magic with their limited skills!

Within this cute chapter book for young readers, you find a story told in a manner that will keep everyone's interest, with spot on dialogue, all while teaching a few lessons in a fun way! The book hits on topics that are current for the day, (divorce, re-marriage), in a way that ends up being very positive!

Well done!

A very cute and well written story about twin witches. I love the girls and the lessons they learn about accepting what they can't change. Very cute and easy read and really enjoyable.

I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed this quick, fun read for older elementary children. The plot of the story is simple, and the author wastes no time getting right to the magic that makes this book so much fun.

While the fledgling witch sisters experiment with magic and try to stop their father from marrying "Fluffy," they learn some valuable lessons along the way.

This book is funny and the sisters are well developed characters that children could relate to easily. I liked their brother, Grandy and mom as well. The dialogue in this story is right on target and makes you believe you are really listening to the conversation of a couple of middle-school girls.

A warning: after you read this book, you won't be able to love or hate anything anymore without love, love, loving it or hate, hate, hating it!

By the end of the book there is a resolution to the major issues that fit the rest of the book nicely. I think this would be a great chapter book for young adults.

Review published on Mundie Kids on 6/3/2013*

MundieTween read this book in only a few sittings. The plot line of Claire and Luna trying to stop the wedding (by using magic) was one she truly enjoyed. Grandy was one helpful character who gives the girls a lot of leeway for them to pursue trouble like allowing them out of her sight so they can use her spell book to cast an important wedding ruining spell. The results wilt flowers, make the food taste bad, and to make sure their father's fiancee does not say those two little words, "I do".

At the end of the story, there's a sweet twist, involving a character that the girls only heard of and who delivers a big surprise. This is such a sweet story and perfect for a tween who loves sibling mayhem plotlines. MundieTween is looking forward to reading Witch Twins: Camp Bliss, Witch Twins: Melody Malady and Witch Twins: The Ghost of Glen Bly, and I'm looking forward to her nose in a book this summer. A win-win for both parents and tweens!

The witch twins hated their soon-enough grandmother. They also hated their new teacher but in the end they liked all of them and became great friends with their teacher. At first they destroyed the wedding, but in the end they made friends with their teacher and fixed it. They even found their grandfather.

*re-read* I absolutely loved this book growing up. 🥰 Anything relating to witches and magic were my go-to’s. I forgot about it until I saw it on the Libby app and noticed the author had written a series for it. I highly recommend this adorable book for middle grade readers’.
Claire and Luna are ten-year-old twin witches whose parents are divorced. After finding out there father is about to marry his girlfriend Fluffy from Texas both twins set out to ruin their day and stop the I do’s with magic. The twins get into other mischief leading up to the big day and learn a few life lessons along the way while trying to earn their one-stars.

This novel is a nice setup for follow up novels. Readers will meet two ten-year-old identical twins who just happen to be witches, and the only family member who knows is Grandy. After all, witchery skips a generation, and Grandy is a grand five-star witch who makes sure to train the girls so they can earn their first star.

See? Cute already.

In this first novel, we learn about Claire and Luna and their tight twinly bond. They seem to do everything together, especially witchcraft. So when their favorite teacher goes on maternity leave and they are left with a substitute, things get hairy. The sub decides the two girls need to form their own identities—apart from one another—and while one adjusts quickly, the other does not. If this is not bad enough, now their dad is re-marrying a woman named Fluffy, and they are not happy.

Shenanigans ensue throughout the plot, usually with hilarious consequences. Ultimately what the writer has given us is a tale of two sisters with a strong bond who want to do the right thing by everyone they love. They face the consequences head-on and try to deal with the aftermath with as much skill and grace as they can.

I want to say that I just adored Claire and Luna. They did not develop a lot in this novel, but as the first in a series, I can see the growth taking shape toward the story’s end. I would love to read the other three novels in the series to see the characters come full circle as sisters, as friends, and as witches.

Grandy was such a fun character. I mean, her name is “Grandy”! Doesn’t that sound like someone who would bake cookies, sew a dress, and teach her granddaughters witchcraft? She has a lot of spirit in this book, and her goal is to help Claire and Luna reach their full potential as witches to earn their first star.

The girls’ parents were also an interesting lot. Neither is aware of the girls ability for witchcraft, but they are aware of girls being ten. And then there is their brother, who really doesn’t add anything to the story, making him more of a third wheel. I’ll be curious to see if Griffin does anything with him in the other books.

I do have one complaint: the new book cover. It does not match this novel. The girls on the cover look a lot older than ten, marketing to twelve-year-olds. If we are going to deal with characters that are ten-year-old little girls who do not wear make-up and are enjoying being ten, then the cover should reflect that. The older cover does, and I understand why they wanted a more modern cover, but it just does not fit.

I would recommend this to readers of Diana Wynne Jones fans who enjoyed ‘Witch’s Business’ because this novel has the same feel to that one. This is suitable for readers aged 8+.

Breezy and Winning

This book is a lot more than a "magical twins" escapade; in fact, the magic is really just a hook to allow us to follow Claire and Luna as they cheerfully and earnestly navigate their complicated lives as sisters, twins, fifth graders and novice witches. Think of a movie like "The Parent Trap". You could have made Hayley Mills and her twin sister witches, or not, and it would still be a charming movie. Or think of the "Patty Duke Show" from the mid-60's, where Patty and her nearly identical cousin could have been witches in the "Bewitched" or "Sabrina" style, but didn't have to be. The witch angle is fun and it allows for more creative and imaginative plotting and for more complications and misunderstandings, but it's not the heart of the book.

The heart of the book is the endearing and enduring affection and loyalty the twins have to each other and to their family. Their brother, Mom, Dad, and Grandmother, all benefit from and return this unquestioning love and support. There is no meanness or ironic distance or snark in the book; it is disarmingly cheerful and upbeat.

A lot of credit should be placed on the way the twins are developed and presented. They are naive but also observant and knowing. They are optimistic and hopeful, but not entirely blind to reality. They are kind and generous, but react strongly to injustice or unfairness. Their deadpan goodness and their innocent forays into misbehavior and devilment have charm, depth and honest appeal. It's hard to imagine more attractive protagonists than these two. All of this is elevated further by the author's very light touch and gentle and bemused good humor. Little narrative asides and throwaway observations keep the entire project light and lively and hugely good-hearted. Even when there is a little bit of a barb or an edge to a line, it is offered slyly and with a wink.

The upshot is that this is a very accomplished and carefully crafted and satisfying tale for a mid-elementary reader. The writing and plot points seem age appropriate and the style and tone is consistently aimed at that reader level throughout the book. I would expect many if not most readers to read this with relative ease and to enjoy it. I did.

Please note that I received a free advance ecopy of this book in exchange for a candid review. Apart from that I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.

Witch Twins is book one of the series. It is pretty good story aimed at older elementry age or higher. The twins look a like but are way different. They try to help and sometimes they try to use witch craft but they are newer witches and get into trouble.
Claire and Luna's dad is getting remarried and they are afraid they will loose him. That he will move away so they want to stop the wedding. The girls dont like change.

It keeps your attention in the story and has some good lessons that the girls learn along the way.
I would give this too my niece who loves to read. I think she would like it. I would read the other Witch Twins book in the series. It is fun story dealing with some real problems that a lot of kids face. No not the witch part.
I was given this ebook to read in exchange for honest review of it from Netgalley.

I quite enjoyed this one. I should have read it in one sitting, but I didn't. I believe all kids will enjoy this, but that twins will relate the most. I was supposed to be born as twins, but was instead born as one large baby girl instead. But, I still love books about twins.
Claire and Luna are twins. But, they are also witches, who are looking to earn their witch kittens and their 1-star witch rankings, in order to achieve more witch powers to be able to do more spells. But, nothing seems to be going right for them in that department.
It's not till the girls get a new homeroom teacher during the middle of the year, who separates them into different classrooms--because she does not think that twins should be in the same class at school--that the girls begin to truly explore and discover their true personalities, which make them wonderful and unique individuals. They are too used to thinking as two parts of one well-oiled whole.
Claire becomes a part of the "exclusive" Mariposa Club with some popular girls in her new class. Luna gets "discovered" while doing artwork on the playground, and joins the theatre group doing props for the school play. Both girls are happy with the change for a change.
But, there's one thing they're unhappy about...Their daddy will be marrying the dreadful dog-named "Fluffy" soon. Neither can stand her, so they do everything to make her life miserable, including picking out bumblebee-patterned bridesmaid dresses for wedding...since she is allergic to bees!
But, the wedding does--unexpectedly--go off pretty well in the end, and the twins do experience a much-needed change-of-heart towards Edith (Fluffy), which does indeed earn them their witch kittens and 1-star witch rankings.
------------------
All's well that ends well for the girls, but I have the feeling they will have many more witchy adventures for us to enjoy in the future. And, I look forward to them all!

i normally don't read children's fiction because i have children old enough that can read these books for me. I got this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. lol i never turn down books for review because you never know if you are going to turn down the next best seller!

this was a quick enjoyable read. it is a book about a set of twins who are in 5th grade. they do everything together. They are witches. The only person who knows this is there grandmother. One a month they take the train to visit her. they are working on getting their first witch star and receive their witch cat.

Claire and Luna face 2 major problems in this book. First, their father is finally getting remarried to a girl named fluffy! i no right! They do not like Fluffy because they think that she is going to make their father move to Texas. So, the two start to think of ways to ruin the wedding and make sure their dad does not move. This as you can already know causes problems in the witching world and they 2 have to decided weather they are going to ask their grandmother for help or take care of it themselves.

the second problem they face is their 5th grade teacher. While they favorite teacher is on maternity leave. They get a new teacher who is all about rules. their teacher doesn't like the fact that the twins have not been separated yet. she said they won't find out what kind of people they are until they are alone. Luna doesn't take this very well and starts to get depressed. their mother said if she cannot adjust that she will talk to the teacher. on the other hand Claire loved being moved to a different class because she made friends right a way and even joined a club. it took a while but Luna found out that she could draw very well. Then a lot of kids saw her drawings and she made just as many friends.

this was a cute book that i think 2-5 graders would enjoy to read.

I absolutely loved the twins and their family and being a fan of witches and magic, I enjoyed the book a lot. So much in fact, I finished this book in just a day. Of course it's short and a kids book. The writing style was very very easy to read and I loved how each character was described in detail. The chapter names were fun and overall, it was a good book. I even used the book as comprehension to my cousin twins who are 10 and they enjoyed it.

SYN: Luna and Claire are witches but their mother doesn't know! and when their dad plans to marry Fluffy, they vow to do everything in their power to make sure that the wedding does not happen and through working for first star and kittens, substitute teachers, family reunions and love potions gone wrong, Claire and Luna learn that some things does not need magic, only love!

Fav Character: Luna! I might be biased to the name but I thought she was a lot like me and definitely the twin I'd click most with.

Verdict: My tween sister loved it too, and so, I would recommend this to all tweens! She rarely loves a book.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Twins Claire and Luna, who happen to be witches, found out their father was getting remarried. They were concerned about the consequences.

Both of the girls were spoiled but not in a mean way. They were a little snotty, somehow this was one of the things I liked about them. Neither of them liked change and were vocal about it. They usually found they liked the change that had taken place.

One of the best parts of the book was the consequences to the cast spells. They weren't always bad, but there was something unexpected about all of them. I liked how they had to use their heads to fix the problems their magic did cause.

The turnaround the girls have is very abrupt and the catalyst for their change of heart was rather small. At one point they felt one way then they looked around and felt the opposite. It could have been a little more involved to be more realistic, but the solution did leave everything warm and rosy.

This is a really fun read for girls of all ages. I work with teens and find they are generally most interested in paranormal reads. This is a delightful book that will hold their attention. So many times I encounter kids books that talk down to them, this one is on their level and creative!!

Loved the characters and concept! Such fun reading, made me laugh and giggle many times. Clare and Luna are great role models for young girls. Loved them!

Terrific start to a series that can only get better! Fantastic way to hook your tween on reading!

Cute story for pre-teens, involving magic, family dynamics, finding and asserting your own personality, and most of all learning a valuable life lesson.

I thought the book was very cute, the twins were likable and well developed, the story flowed well, had good content and is appropriate for the audience.
