A savage land. An untamed passion.

A member of the court of Mary Queen of Scots, the exquisite Sabine de Sainte Montagne is at the mercy of Her Majesty’s whims—and has been promised in marriage to a powerful, yet devious, Scottish lord.

The chief of an outlaw clan, Niall Macgregor knows his people’s future rests in the hands of the new queen. But his reckless attempt to approach her is spoiled by Sabine’s presence. Stopped cold by her raven-haired beauty, Niall barely escapes with his life.

With but a glimpse into Niall’s startling blue eyes, Sabine recognizes the freedom she so desperately craves. But it will take all of the warrior’s fierce courage and determination to pierce Sabine’s French pride and make her believe that anything can happen in the Highlands—even love....

New writer for me and let me tell ya I was blown away about the depth of this author's writing and how quickly she had me rooting for Clan MacGregor and booing at Clan Campbell. Anyone knows anything about Scotland history of their feuds and skirmishes will know The Campbell's and MacGregors have never been exactly besties. You know the usual reason besides stealing sheep and coo's of course, like murdering ones Father and brother and telling lies just because they want one's land!

August 1561 Leith Harbor Scotland

New Queen and Sovereign Mary Stuart of Scotland travels from France brings her ladies but one with a crippled hand named Sabine de Sainte Montagne whose father recently died, also she has an arranged marriage to the evil villain of the story John Campbell. The hero of the book Niall MacGregor is just trying to clear his names as well as his clans. You can feel the sparks between Niall and Sabine right from the beginning.

This was a fabulous read and you could feel Lord John evilness and wickedness right from the beginning, with all his plotting and scheming. I found the woman ( heroine) Sabine was more of the hero of this story in many ways more so then how men usually are. Also found this direction the author Ms. Holcombe went so very refreshing as well.

I really felt for the French heroine Sabine in this story, as every person she has cared for in her past has left her or died. With her fathers cruel tactics just because he didn't understand her paintings and artistic ways, this was so horrific and then her gives her a choice of servitude or a life in the church. After living a life of royalty as they were titled aristocrats themselves. As having her own servants as her family was aristocrats themselves. This man obviously felt no love for anyone but himself, unfortunately it made his daughter untrusting, suspicious by nature of others which I couldn't blame her. Especially when you find out how her hand became injured and handicapped, yet she is a tiger and finds the strength within herself. You better keep some hankies nearby as their are a few moments that pull at your heart strings.

Then here comes Niall MacGregor and it seems one irony chicken is their matchmaker or at least cupid pointing in that direction which was hilarious. Of course his clan had been enemies with the villain John Campbell since forever and Niall just want a chance where he doesn't have to live a life as an outlaw and protect his clan. Yet Sabine and his feelings for her have so many touching scenes anyone will just be so enchanted with this read. I highly recommend you read this endearing and enchanted story as you will love it as much as I did!

I look forward Elizabeth Holcombe next book Warrior and the Wonderer a time travel Scottish historical romance. Looks like another spectacular read to me! Can't wait~B

This book was okay and a heck of a lot tamer than what I have been reading, thank God! The story was sweet and the characters were all likeable. It was pretty fast paced and easily read although I did find the French and the Gaelic to be a little cumbersome. The author did a pretty good job of interpreting but there were still parts I didn't get.

Good book, though.

Really bizarre, cause this is my kind of books.
Don't know I'm almost half way through and it does not keep me interested. The story is dragging...Have listen and read other books hoping each time I come back to it, I'd finish it.
Now Nov. 11 I'm putting it away for a lonnnng while.

Very compelling story of Mary Queen of Scots first visit to Scotland from France and the romance that develops between a displaced Highland clan chief and one of Mary's ladies in waiting. Mystery,Intrigue and Romance with un petite comedie thrown in.
