Romance with a bit of paranormal (shape shifter). Easy on the brain, light on the heart.

To be honest, it has been an extremely long time since I have read a romance novel, but Christina Skye knows how to hook a reader and keep them reading. I love Christina Skye's Draycott Abbey books and I was so excited to see that she had written another one. I love how she blends romance with just a touch of the paranormal. In this case, the paranormal took the form of a shapeshifter. I literally breezed through this book. This was just the kind of book candy I was looking for in the busy month of December.
If you like paranormal romance I highly recommend all of the books in Skye's Draycott Abbey series. They have a touch of paranormal without overwhelming the reader and continue to be my favorite romances.

I was hard pressed to give this 2 stars. I adore the Draycott Abbey series. I've found them to be entertaining, mysterious and passionate.
This last one though... The beginning started out fast and furious.
We meet Calan MacKay, a mysterious friend of Nicolas Draycott's, who has a paranormal secret that keeps him roaming the world-never calling anyplace home.
As usual, Nicolas is involved in some government espionag plot and needs expert help.
Kiera Morissey is an American travel expert who has recently arrived in town and seems very curious about Draycott Abbey. Calen sees her during one of his usual night hunts Cand feels an instant connection.
Kiera is not what she seems though. She has secrets of her own, secrets that could hurt Nicolas and Draycott Abbey.
Once you hit the middle of the book your confused and not sure what is going on.
2 or 3 groups are all out to get Nicolas. Or maybe it was Calan. I'm sure one was after Keira but NOT sure why.
Keira's sister is kidnapped and Keira and Calen must save her. Keira also gets kidnapped. Calan rescues her and using his powers, saves her life.
Calan's uncle comes and takes Calan back to their homeland. An uncle who you are told through the book doesn't like him and tried to kill him when he was younger. But the tone you get from the conversation between Calan's uncle and his aunt is that the uncle feels he needs to go back to island to recover and live.
During all this Keira and Nicolas meet, he finds out she's his sister's child. The sister he thought was dead.
But you don't read about the reunion. Your only told that it's all been worked out and everyone is cool with it.
I found that VERY disappointing since the whole build up of the first part of book was how Keira's mother was raped and tormented at Draycott Abbey and did EVERYTHING, including faking her own death, to escape.
One particular scene really cheesed me off. Nicolas calls his former accounts manager. The manager was the one that raped and tormented Keira's mother. Nicolas says, "I cannot locate him but I'll trying."
Huh?
I was left feeling let down and had a lot of unanswered questions.

First off - I liked Calan Mackay and his abilities. Not exactly a werewolf, but a shapeshifter who cannot always control the abilities. I liked seeing his struggle with remaining human, but it was never fully explained if he would be a danger to the heroine if he did transform in front of her. He seemed to be able to think like a human while a wolf...so I wasn't sure.
I didn't like how the heroine was so stubborn and closed off about the Draycotts. I didn't like how nothing was truly explained about what happened between the sister and the rest of the Draycott family. Did Nicholas really not return the letters? That doesn't seem right to me. And I was REALLY disappointed that I didn't get to see the confrontation between Nicholas and the heroine - were explanation given? Were they reasonable ones? What happened? You can't just not show that sort of thing when the entire book has been building up to their reunion!
I also wasn't quite sure what was going on with these people hunting down the heroine. Why were they after her? What is going on in this story? Nothing was very clear. I think the author was trying to get too much into a simple story.

Considering this book is #11 in a series it is surprising complete - and seems to point to sequels just for this story line
He thinks of himself as a monster

there is political meetings held in remote mansions
lots of rogue military
terrorists kidnap her sister
there is no question - rescue is organised
he must use his gift to save her life but it sends him into a coma
suddenly his family appears - they have been watching him - and they take him away..... nothing in normal hospitals can help
the girl and his friend(her uncle) rescue him - the lovers bond and their ties are stronger than any marriage vows
What is in store of them?
What will be their next adventure?

I was not really all that tied to this story and put it down easily to do other things, in fact it took me several weeks to actually get into it enough to read through. When Izzy showed up, then I was ALL IN! I love the Code named books and tying this one to them gave me a common thread to identify with. I struggled to suspend my disbelief for this story line, perhaps becuase this is the first of the Abby books i have ever read, but there just seemed to be a lot of references to characters I did not know that the reader is assumed to know I think. Over all, I enjoyed the book, but I was not blown away by it.

I thought to begin with that it was going to be a vampire or werewolf book that my daughter love to read. It turned out to be something completely different and I could hardly wait to see how it ended. Would I like to read more of this sort? I don't think so, however I might if it was this author and continued about other characters in this book.
There is some sex discription but it plays with the entire story. I did look to see if this Draycott Abbey series had more books, but this was the last so far.

This is book 9 in the Draycott Abbey series and I think it's book 1 in a mini-series about the 3 daughters of Nicholas Draycott's "missing" sister. It's my first taste of this series. It was OK and all but I don't think I'll be back for either older books in the series or for newer books. This was a standard Romance with a touch of Paranormal thrown in, but not enough to make it work for me. It was an intriguing story though, I didn't do any skimming. I'm going to assume that it's just like her other work so if you've liked the previous books in the series then you'll like this one too.

Different from the other Draycott Abbey books yet still a good read, more paranormal, not just ghosts!! Have enjoyed all the Draycott Abbey books, some more than others but enjoyed them still!! Waiting for others in ebook format!!!

This would have been a five but I don't like being left hanging and wanted to know the background story of the heroine's mother. Maybe that's in the next book but I found it frustrating.

Loved it. Was similar to the Perfect Gift but different enough to that I loved both hero and heroine.
