After uncovering startling information about her family, Triss is determined to right the wrongs of her ancestors. Triss and Logan uncover who has infiltrated the covens across the globe, and they realize the plans of the dark side are far more sinister than they’d ever imagined.
As the power of this hidden world is exposed, Triss learns her role in the covens. With Logan, Dace and Bakula’s assistance, Triss is now able to fully realize the abilities her ancestors have given her.

This was a good read. It continues Triss and Logan's story. They spend the book trying to stop her grandfather from going through with his plan. In this book Triss receives some unsettling news. Which will be a big part of the the next book.

There are no words to describe how excited I was to get a sneak peak at this magnificent edition to the Witch Avenue Series!! And yes, it was magnificent! Karice Bolton is a wonderful author and has outdone herself with the amount of action, suspense, spice (yes ma'am!), and heart wrenching scenarios in this third book.

I felt as though I was living in the story along side Triss and Logan. When they were happy, I was happy. When their hearts were breaking, I wanted to slap a bitch. My heart raced at every turn in their adventure. Triss is one bad ass bitch witch, with no one as her equal. She takes everything with such stride and faces her demons head on - taking no prisoners... I cannot even begin describe the story in my own words without giving away the plot, so I'm going to leave you with the synopsis of this installment.

************** THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS! **************

I cannot believe I actually finished this book. It took me three weeks to trudge through this. Every time I tried to read more than a chapter, I felt my eyelids starting to close and I would fall asleep. Definitely not the best idea when I was reading this on my lunch break! Released Souls was the most boring out of the series and I would say it was the most unrealistic and unbelievable. So much junk was added to this book, it seemed as though people challenged the author to put as much as she possibly could into the storyline, regardless if it fit or made sense.

Triss Spires and Logan Greene are back again as the lust-driven couple who cannot keep their hands off of each other. They pop off here and there to have sex because it’s so important that they do – especially since they need to be seen as a couple by all the other witches – so the fairies and other witches give them loads of alone time to have all the cuddling, kissing and sex they need. Though, the author does not specifically say that they’re having sex until about 83% of the book (location 3244 Logan talks about having makeup sex but the scene begins with chapter 20). The author still does not convince me that they are in love – it just seems forced; like they have to love each other because the author wants it that way and it needs to be in the story. She even has the other characters trying to make sure that Logan and Triss have their special alone time because they need to love each other. Puuhlease!

I still find Triss to be a big, old brat. She whines and demands to get her own way, solutions to problems are easily solved for her, when in doubt, Logan will be there to save her or do the heavy work for her.

Whispering is still a favorite way to speak among the lusty couple (98 instances per my Kindle in this novel). There was a decrease in this book but still way too much whispering at unrealistic and inappropriate times.

Here are some examples of the unrealistic and unbelievable:

1. Triss is able to read and spout off Latin words and sentences like she has been doing this all of her life. Logan makes a comment that she must have been practicing. However, we NEVER see Triss practice and she never mentions that she is studying the language. Besides, when does she have the time? How are the readers supposed to believe that she is suddenly able to speak the dead language? There is an instance where she can only make out one word in a sentence, but I think it was because the author wanted Logan to tell it to her.

2. Lara and all the sorcerers are supposed to be feared for their magical skills and power. Yet, Triss and Logan were able to easily take down Lara while she screamed and cowered in fear – no major fight scene there (I thought it was a stupid idea for Logan to kill Lara – Triss was able to take the easy way out yet again). Triss, Logan and Trevor also found it easy to stop the magic of the bad sorcerers. Why would the bad sorcerers use simple or meager spells that were so easy to deflect? If Trevor and Logan only studied with Triss’s father for a few years, how did the boys get so powerful – more powerful than the other sorcerers – with such superior spell casting to counterattack everyone else so easily? Unbelievable.

3. Logan, once again, was overflowing with magical knowledge and prowess that served to answer almost every magical question or problem that Triss had throughout the novel. With all of the knowledge and skills that Logan seemed to possess (which increased with every chapter), I picture him as a 45 year-old man, not a teenager. Definitely unrealistic.

4. Triss does whatever she wants, whenever she wants. She expects everyone to agree with her and follow her crazy plans. Very rarely are her ideas or plots nixed. She is always told that her plans are dangerous and should not be done but yet, she is allowed to plow forward, regardless of the consequences. Then, she has the nerve to say that she should not do something because Logan would stop her or kill her (not literally, of course because he lusts her) – which is totally against both her character and his! He pretty much lets her do whatever she wants, no matter how dangerous, foolish or stupid the plan really is… all the characters agree that Triss is stubborn and gets what she wants. Unbelievable and unrealistic.

5. What is going on with Trevor becoming touchy feely? The author makes Trevor hug Triss or put his arm/hand on her for a tad too long and Triss claims she is uncomfortable because of what Logan might think. This happens several times and nothing ever comes of it. It is never explained and I really didn’t see the purpose of it being in the book. If the author wants us to believe that Trevor is getting over Triss, then leave it as that. If the author is trying to add some mystery between the two of them, it really isn’t needed and just convolutes the story (as if the novel needed any more ideas being thrown into it).

6. Every time I thought I had a handle on what was going on with Triss magically, the author would give her another power and make her a new witch. I mean, come on. Enough is enough. Stop trying to prove to me that Triss is supposed to be “the leader of the magical world”. Adding more and more powers and giving her new witch names does not convince me that she should lead.

Giving her new witch names and rare powers only make Triss more unrealistic and unbelievable. It’s like opening up a bag of candy and tossing out random pieces to her: here, catch this one. What is it? Fire power. Great. Before you’re finished with that piece, catch another one. What is it? Wrangling water. Terrific. Comes in handy to extinguish your flames. Okay, don’t finish that piece, open your hands and catch this one. What is it? It’s the silver touch. Now you can turn people into metal objects (not sure if you actually kill them or not but hey, it’s fun!). Now since you have three powers (which is so incredibly rare), you are called a Trifecta.

Oh, wait, here’s another piece of candy. What did you get? The ability to see the past, see the present (like who can’t do that) and see the future (which the author told us that the fairies gave this to Triss but Logan claims that the fairies lied to take the credit for this power). Now you’re a Divinus witch! Hooray for you! Your powers are what the dark side of magic have been trying to obtain for centuries. Divinus witches are so incredibly rare.

7. And speaking of Divinus witches, of course Logan was able to figure out Triss’s new powers and told her what her new witch name was. All-knowing Logan was also able to tell Triss that Divinus witches do not live past their 20th birthdays (lots of eye rolling here). He was actually the ONLY person to tell Triss that she was a Divinus witch (confirmed by the fairies) and the ONLY person to tell her that she would die by the age of 20 (not confirmed by anyone else).

Questions:

a. Why does this happen? Why does a Divinus witch die by the 20th birthday? The author does not tell us.
b. How productive can a Divinus witch be if he/she dies by the 20th birthday? I don’t know; the author does not say.
c. What is the purpose of being a Divinus witch if he/she dies by the 20th birthday? I have no idea; the author never tells us.

Here is my prediction: somehow, Triss, Logan or Trevor will find a way to break that “curse” over the Divinus witch and she and Logan will live lustily ever after.

8. If the author wants Triss to be a “good girl”, stop having her grin wickedly or enjoy dipping into the “dark side” of magic. I find that she really enjoys hurting/harming other people and this takes away from her having a pure heart or a kind soul. It’s like the author wants Triss to be “good” for the sake of the novel’s outcome but throws in some wickedness to spice up the boring side of her. Example: when Triss used her silver power to turn one of the sorcerers into the silver statue, he was begging her to stop but she was enjoying it and didn’t want to. How is that working for the side of good? She could have given him a small dose of the silver but completely turning him into whatever the silver stuff does, definitely dips into the dark magic – not gray magic.

On the plus side, there were only minor grammar mistakes and the writing in general was an improvement from the previous two books.

I was expecting this novel to be the last in the series but I just found out that there is a fourth. Sigh, I doubt the series will improve but you never know. There could be hope.

I am giving this novel one star. The series stands at 1.5 stars.

Another Good Book In This Series

I found this book to be a lot shorter than the other two, but in reality it isn't. I just read through it so quickly, it was hard to stop turning the pages. There was just one revelation after another for Triss. It was well written and the plot just thickens. It seemed that there was so much going on, but it was easy to follow. The words just flowed, I was surprised when I reached the end.

As with the other two books, the main plot stream for this booked was wrapped up at the end. No horrible cliffhanger, but the way it ended, you know there is a book four. Logan and Triss seem to save each other, and Trevor is helping out a lot ever since he realized he was on the wrong side. The two fairies, Bakula and Dace, make more appearances, and there is a situation with one of them.

Overall, it was a good book. I felt it could have been a bit longer, but I'm sure any questions that remain unanswered with have their resolution the final book.

Despite freeing her mother Triss now discovers she has to battle both her aunt and grandfather in order to stop whatever they are planning. Added to that Triss' gifts are increasing.
In my opinion this is the best book so far in the series. Full of twists and turns this is a fabulous book. I can't wait to start the next book and discover how Triss' story is going to end.

This is the third book in the Witch Avenue Series and I tried to think if this was a good stand alone book and I am not so sure. It is a great part of this series.

Triss has her mother home but she is still not the same as she was before she went away. Triss is so afraid that the mother she loved might not ever be completely back. Triss's dad is in limbo but her grandfather, Eben, is still planning on throwing all the witches into the public eye but Triss and Logan know that there is more to the whole situation than just that. Eben is powerful and much to Triss' surprise, she also has to deal with an aunt, Lara. How many more people are involved and what is the real purpose sobawful that the fairies are helping Triss. What is so special about Triss that makes her the one to save the covens around the world and stop her family from succeeding with their plans--even before she really knows what the plans are. And why does Triss keep delveloping new powers each more amazing and powerful then the last. Most witches only have one or two special abilities if they are lucky.

Triss and Logan are still in love and it keeps getting stronger. Even though this tale is about Triss, she could not succeed without Logan and so many others. She is special, but it comes at a price. The problem is that it is not a price she wants to pay but she has no choice really. The problem is so much bigger than her and so the solution really comes down to a sacrifice must be made. I keep rating these books as 3 out of 5 stars which does not seem like much. This books are a fairly quick read and the tempo is fast. Each one builds so well onto the next that you want to know what happens next. I cannot wait to read the last book in the series and I am excited to see exactly how it works out. The reason that I have not rated the books higher is one I will probably never have the desire to read them again. That is mainly due to the romance in the books. Logan is too perfect and their love is too perfect to be realistic. I think it was so thick in the first book and I ha enot got over it. The rest of the drama has been great.

Released Souls really tore at my heart. I really love Logan and Triss together and how their journey has taken so many places and they have learned so many things. Together they are a powerful couple learning how to handle things that are thrown Triss's way. They both have grown so much from Lonely Souls and I love this series. I have a bad feeling I am gong to cry like a big ole baby when the series comes to an end. I have watched Triss lose everything to gain Logan and he has never left her side and has helped her through the roughest part of her life. They say out of tragedy comes love and that is so true with these two. I love this couple so much!

Triss and Logan's love has gotten stronger and together they are a force to be reckoned. Their powers together have increased and they feed off of each other. Their positive vibes makes their powers stronger by the day. But as all good things their is evil lurking in the dark waiting to destroy what Logan and Triss are trying to do. Then Triss and Logan discover that Triss has some family secrets and when they discover them Triss has to figure out what to do with them. But between her and Logan they will always do right by fighting the evil that is determined to hurt them and other covens.

Triss and Logan have finally figured out who is infiltrating the covens and when you find out who it is you may just be surprised like I was. They find out that the darkness has some plans for them and the other covens and Triss and Logan will have to fight the evil to save everyone. Then Triss finds out that Eben has his own plans and what he has planned is not good at all. What will Logan, Triss, Dace, and Bakula do to keep the covens safe?

4.5 Stars

'Released Souls' is the third installment in the Witch Avenue series. It continues to follow Triss as her and Logan's love deepens daily and they continue to harness the power between them. Not everything is great though. Triss discovers come unsettling information about her family's past and is determined to right the wrongs her forebears committed. Along the way, her and Logan manage to discover who has been infiltrating the covens and what their motive is. The reality is far more evil than they had ever imagined. Triss also discovers her role and true destiny within the covens and begins to embrace her abilities. With the truth discovered, it's now up to Triss to stop Eben and his evil plans before it's too late.

I love any books that revolve around witches and magic. To me, they represent one of greatest parts of reading - indulging one's imagination. The plot and storyline of Released Souls was not a disappointment. Evil witches who conjure spirits, curse people, and wonderful spells to boot - this book is a wonderfully witchy romantic adventure that also has a fast-paced narrative. I have to admit that the romance between Triss and Logan has really grown and developed within the last couple of books in the series and things are definitely heating up between them. The romantic angle mixed in with the witchcraft and the great plot make this one amazing novel. It was a thrilling and captivating mix of magic, love, action, and mystery and I'm definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the series to see where the story will go from here. This is a fantastic and truly enchanting series that fans of paranormal romance will definitely not want to miss!

Disclosure: I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

This book certainly picks straight up from where "Altered Souls" finished. Triss has learned that her father was not the instigator in the Praedivinus but was in fact his father, Triss' grandfather.
In this book Triss founds about her ancestors and the history behind the powers that she has inherited from both her father and her mother's side of the family.

Triss & Logan go through some ups and downs in this book, but in the end it only makes the love that they share stronger!

Along the way, her and Logan manage to discover who has been infiltrating the covens and what their motives are. The reality is far more evil than they had ever imagined. Triss also discovers her role and true destiny within the covens and begins to embrace her abilities

The battle that Triss endures at the end of this book is heartbreaking, I can't say much because I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read this book yet, but just let me say this: OH-EM-GEE! Huge cliffhanger and just WOW, I am speechless and shocked by this ending.
I hope the fourth books gives us the answers we are all are anticipating in receiving.

What will happen to the Praedivinus order?
What will happen with Triss & Logan
Will she see past her twentieth birthday? (Gasps)
Will Triss fulfil her destiny to the full potential everyone is requiring her to do?
I'm pretty sure Karice wrote the answers to the above and many, many more in the forth book "Shattered Souls"

I just couldn't give this three stars like the others.

Here's the thing:

In the first 2 books Triss was slightly self-center and extremely immature for her age but I chalked it up to the sheltered life her mother gave her. BUT then the third book came a long and I can't believe it but she got more immature and extremely whiny! Everything is about irrational emotions and why do these things happen to me and it has to be my fault people I care about are getting hurt. She never moves beyond this or grows. Put your big girl pants on already! What's worse is that this echoes throughout the whole book. I started skipping lines just so I wouldn't throw my Kindle. Examples -

So no more and this doesn't get more than one star.

It’s official…Logan and Triss are definitely in my top 5 favorite book couples!! I am unsure when the 4th book will be published but I hope it’s soon. As with the other books in the Witch Coven Series the author has ended it on a note that has me hooked and waiting for the next one. I’d recommend this series to anyone that likes strong female leads. It’s also a great series if you like a little romance with your paranormal adventures.

In Released Soul, we see Triss is getting the hang of her powers and has discovered more of them. It turns out that she’s a one in a million type of witch. That revelation worries Logan and Triss, however, because they know it will impact their future and relationship far more than they had hoped. After another attack on the coven their loved ones are put into hiding by the faeries so Eben and company can’t use them against them again. Triss’ father is finally out of the way but she learns that he was only just the beginning of what needed to be stopped. Luckily the good forces are growing in number and coming together all over the world to help. Will Triss be able to break down the Praedivinus Order? I guess you’ll just have to jump into the books to find out for yourself.

Triss and Logan are still at it, and I love every bit of what makes them, them. I wonder if they will ever be able to take a breath and really get to enjoy the love they have, or if they'll be forever cursed with their stolen moments. Still, I can relate. while i may not have dark and evil witches to dodge, I have kids and they love to interrupt and ruin :)

I really loved the changes we see in Triss. She grows more, I think, in this book than we have seen before. The inner battle of dark vs grey magic really comes through. Logan is by her side through it all, even when she fights with herself over the best course of action. Even with everything that has happened in the past, he remains the rock that she fears losing more than herself. So what happens when it is Logan whose life hangs by a thread?

I love reading along with Karice's books. As her characters and stories progress, you just get sucked in. Escaping into her stories is quickly becoming a favorite pastime as I've now read her works for over a year, and I'll continue to read as long as she writes.

I really enjoy the books I'm reading by Karice Bolton. This series has really sucked me in. Even though book one was not my favorite, I knew I had to continue the series because the story itself was simply intriguing - and I'm so glad that I did.

I've got one gripe for you Karice. Either make your books longer or write faster! :)

If you enjoy paranormal books that contain witches, warlocks, magic and fairies with a pretty great love story thrown in the mix, do yourself a favor and pick up this series. Bolton gives you quality writing with superb story-telling ability.

In this particular installment, our characters have matured and their relationship is stronger than ever - or is it? There are a few unexpected twists and turns that I truly appreciated. I would talk more about them but I don't like to put in spoilers. JUST READ IT!

I liked Karice Bolton's Watcher trilogy, but I'm barely making it through the Witch Avenue books. Looking forward to the last book just to be done with the story. I'm not invested at all with Triss or Logan, so the sooner the better. The books seem to just move from one weird attack scene to the next and the writing is too abrupt. Sometimes I would flip to the next page and not be sure I'd flipped just one page because the story moved along too much and I had to go back to make sure I was indeed at the right page.

I really enjoy this whole series. It's one of my favorites. In fact I love all Karice Bolton books. Yes I've read them all and wait impatiently for the next one. Triss aand Logan's relationship is so sweet and to watch it continue to grow is lovely. The evolution of Triss and her powers is also something wonderful. To watch her go from a naive Witch to one of self-confidence and strengh is something that is truly inspiring. Can't wait for the next book. Hope it's a longer one, but if not I'm sure it will still be fabulous!!!!

Wow, I really enjoyed this book. I had to fight to find time between work and family to get in some quality time to read, but I was not disappointed. I was kept captivated by the storyline that continues from the previous book, and I am really looking forward to getting the next in this series.

Well done, a very good read and one I highly recommend out there to all those that love a good story with the magick and romance thrown in.

Fantastic!

I was quite disappointed with this book, the first two I thought were entertaining but this one was a struggle for me to even finish. I like Logan and I like Triss but it seems that they just never quite get it right and then something else stands in their way... enough already can we finish the story?

3.5 stars, it was good but not as good as it could have been. in the authors defense, I think what is dragging it down for me is the main character, she needs to step it up and own her powers and be a leader. maybe in the next book?
