Join Steve, Collin, Alex, Billy and Mike. A group of cousins surviving through the aftermath of a pandemic infection of unknown origin. Once contracted, the disease is irreversibly fatal, but its victims don't stay dead for long. Eventually the dead return to life, but all elements of humanity are replaced by ravenous cannibalistic tendencies.

After fleeing their homes in up-state New York, the cousins take to the safety of the road, where they travel west-bound to the rumored "safe-zone" of California. Every day is a fight to stay alive; whether scavenging for essentials or engaging in nerve-racking battles with the relentless undead. Every stop they make is filled with surprises, twists and turns as their lives are now a roller-coaster being driven by hope and shadowed by despair.

Feel their heartache. Experience their triumphs. Follow them as they journey across the wasteland that was once the United States. Ride alongside this family as they search for safety on The Longest Road

About the author

A.S. Thompson

6 books17 followers
A.S. Thompson is a southern California native with a wild card personality! He has worked in a variety of fields, lived in different area codes and in recent years added to the literary world.

His first book "The Longest Road" was an adaptation from a screen play written during college that has since seen two sequels. Arguably coming into his own in "The Change," Thompson's growing style has taken survival horror to new heights. "The Other Side," the daring finale of the series, expands on previous themes of unpredictability and uncertainty, culminating in a grand conclusion of epic fashion.

While his debut novels are post-apocalyptic/zombie by nature, critics and fans have praised the series and described it as a complex, beautiful tragedy and a gripping story about family, endurance, love and loss.

Fortunate to entertain the zombie-loving masses, Thompson does have plans to deviate from the genre with future projects in the action and sci-fi realms.

When he is not sitting behind a computer, Thompson enjoys his favorite pastime: traveling. Whether visiting foreign countries, trying new foods or talking it up with locals, Thompson views touring the world as an unreal experience. In addition, he is a huge fan of movies and live music, and many times paparazzi have captured him frequenting new releases and local shows.

In all aspects of his life, Thompson seeks originality; that new sound or idea that is going to set himself apart. The Longest Road and sequels were created out of his love for the horror genre. To him, there's nothing like the suspense and thrill of reading a horror novel or watching a scary movie...the heart pounding, the spine tingling, and that part in the back of your head that wonders what will happen next...

I couldn’t put the book down. I felt every moment of panic, pain and triumph through the characters--who I quickly fell in love with. The internal struggle of what someone would go through during such traumatic events was beautifully written. There were times I laughed out loud and cried. Thompson’s extensive knowledge in weaponry was very informative and the artwork before each chapter was always eagerly anticipated because of its foreshadowing. Can’t wait to read the sequel, THE CHANGE!!

This is a story filled with suspense, action and emotion. The story starts off with a bang and doesn't stop. While reading I found myself feeling like I was part of the cousins group. The ending makes you glad there is a sequel since there is so much of the story left to tell. I have read a lot of zombie novels and happened across this one by accident and found a real treat. Just goes to show you every once in a while you find gold, if you keep digging.

i really liked this book. It had plenty of suspense and even though it is done I feel the author could make another. I would definitely buy more. I love my zombie books and this one was a page turner from start to finish. The way the author describes his characters makes you want to be with them and help them through the toughest times and the sad times.

One of the best zombie apocalypse tales I've read in awhile. After years and years of zombies and other post-apocalyptic tales I was beginning to think maybe I was permanently burned out on the genre. However the truth is with it's popularity has come a lot of mediocrity. However A.S. has once again made be a believer and given me hope that I will on occasion still find a good a zombie apocalypse tale worth reading. Really looking forward to part two now.

This was an OK book..... I'd give it a 3 1/2 rating, maybe....A quick read - nothing too great or nothing too bad about this book, and I found it did hold my interest, surprisingly! All in all, I guess I'm glad I read it!

What a great companion to Travels With Charlie and Blue Highways. Those of us who live in large urban areas forget about the rest of this vast country. This certainly is not on my bucket list but I loved going along.

This wasn't the best zombie book that I've read, but it wasn't the worst. I will read more of the series since I've become attached to the cousins and need to know what happens next.
