What a beautiful book! Only a very small handful, 3 or 4, of the recipes featured in the book do not also have beautiful photographs of the finished dish accompanying them. Some of the recipes, in fact, are accompanied by pictures of the process itself.

Throughout the book are sprinkled introductions to, and the wisdom of, many of the German Omas who contributed recipes to the book..... One might feel like they're having a chance to meet these beautiful Frauen, and to learn a treasured family recipe, as they read about the lovely women who so willingly shared their wisdom with us.

My sister gave me this cookbook as a Christmas gift, and I have a feeling I'm going to draw from it often.

Some very interesting recipes, I was surprised how global the dinner table has become- we all seem to be eating similar foods these days. Our once regional favorites are hopping the pond back & forth. There were also some delicious old world German dishes in the book, too, and I'm happy to have their recipes at hand. I'm making the recipe baked apples stuffed with marzipan today because gosh that sounds good!

Some really yummy recipes here like real Hungarian Goulash (wiener goulash)makes this a well worth reading book. The measurements are not the usual Americanized version but are in ounces and grams. However, not too difficult to figure out. For those with a German heritage, they will certainly find some favorites. I can't wait to try some of them.

German cooking is part of my heritage, so I was excited to see this book. I was really disappointed in the organization of it, though. Different areas of Germany are referenced, so it would have been more readable to have the recipes organized by region. It also wasn't as attention grabbing as a lot of other cookbooks I've read, so it ended up as a flip-through book for me.

This book is filled with amazing and wonderful recipes that are not difficult, but filled with amazing flavor and fun to make. Something as simple as potato salad, but so good. This was a present from my daughter Maggie and my future son-in-law Matthew, and I love it!
