I read this book with my daughter and her friend and it was really good, so much better than the Junie B books! Princess Posey is faced with jealousy and how to deal with friendship dynamics, how ever even though she struggles, she eventually learns.

Also, I am thankful that the book uses proper grammar!

A great story which shows a great deal of empathy in a situation which so many kids find themselves in - feeling jealous over the arrival of someone new at school. As usual Posey finds the solution in a way that teaches and entertains. Still loving this series!

Edit to add: Really loved this book the second time around too! I love how Posey finds empathy by playing with her stuffed animals. What a great way to teach a child to think about how someone else thinks. Great story!

We read this book together as a bedtime story and we enjoyed every page. We breezed right through this book and she comprehended everything. Even learned about a cowlick. I recommend this book for beginner readers. It was great

3.5 stars. This book is about a new girl coming to the class. At first Posey is jealous and then they work it out and find that everyone has their own place. This was good enough at the time, but not very memorable.

When a new girl, Grace, joins Posey's class, Miss Lee signs Posey to help Grace fit in. But Posey doesn't want to help Grace. She just wants to be friends with her old friends. A wonderful book about adjusting to someone new.

There’s a new girl in Posey’s first grade class. Her name is Grace, she has long hair, and she dresses all in yellow. Ava and Nikki immediately want to be friends with her, but Posey is happy with the friends she has. Besides, Grace doesn’t even know how to play the hopping game properly! As Grace settles into her new class, Posey becomes more and more jealous of her newfound friendship with Posey’s own friends until the girls find themselves in a big fight that can only be resolved with the help of their kind and patient teacher.

The Posey books are always delightful, and this one is no exception. Stephanie Greene covers everything that could ever worry a first grader, and she does it in the most comforting and warm way. In this book, I love the way she balances the excitement of an interesting new girl joining the class with Posey’s worries over how this will change her own friendships. The reader can fully sympathize with Posey’s concerns, but they might also find themselves fascinated with Grace, like Ava and Nikki are. Greene does a great job of leading the reader to the conclusion that there is always room for a new friend, and I appreciate that Posey figures this out mostly on her own, instead of from a preachy adult. I can imagine six-year-old girls looking to Posey as a guide on their own journey through first grade, and Posey fulfills that role admirably!

There are always moments in Posey stories that stand out for me, and this book had a few. First, I loved the moment where Posey is sitting next to Daniel in the car, and she points out that he is snoring. I thought Posey’s reaction, to complain that “he’s breathing his germs all over,” was a great insight into the way older siblings sometimes feel about their younger ones, and also a great way to indicate how Posey is feeling without her having to say it out loud. I also loved the misunderstanding that ensues from Grace mispronouncing “cowlick” as “cow lips.” Finally, I enjoyed the way Posey works things out in her mind by acting out classroom scenarios with her stuffed animals at home. I think this is exactly what real kids do, and I love that it brings Posey to her own conclusion about how to be a friend to the new girl.

Summary: Posey has two best friends Nicki and Ava, they play and do everything together. Then one day a new student all dressed in yellow with long black princess hair named Grace joined their class. Posey was scared that her friends would like Grace more than her. Nicki and Ava talked about her hair and liked her games at recess more. Then one day Grace teases Posey about her "cowlips" Posey did not like that and had enough and didn't want to play with her again. They got in this big fight and the teacher resolved it that Grave didn't mean "cowlips" she meant "cowlick" and she explained what a cowlick is and they giggled a little. Posey becomes Graces reading buddy and all four of them became best friends. This book it a good transition book from picture books to beginning chapter book. It is a easy read with pictures. I really liked this book because this could happen in a classroom and they could all become friends.

Five higher level thinking questions:
-We could compare and contrast of different relationships in the book like Posey to Grace and then Posey to Ava and Nicki. How she really likes Ava and Nicki and not Grace at the beginning.
-We can change the point of view and write or read the story from Graces viewpoint.
-We can compare how Josey feels compared to how Grace feels.
-We could rewrite the ending that Posey and Grace didn't become friends then what would happen.
-We could look at how Posey acted and make opinions or judgements if it was right or wrong to act the way she was acting and how she should of acted.

Posey loves to play magic games, read and spend time with her best friends Ava and Nikki. When a new girl moves to town, Posey feels very jealous. She tries to exclude Grace. Soon, she learns how much it hurts to be excluded. With the help of her teacher, she bonds with Grace and soon the four girls are best friends.

This book would be appropriate for independent readers between six and seven years old. The illustrations and widely spaced text will help young readers transition from picture books to chapter books. Posey also experiences very real emotions with which young readers will identify. The book could be used to help children understand theme and develop narrative skills.

This book has been popular with many of my Literacy Center students. Although Posey is in first grade, her friendship dilemma—a new girl moves in and threatens the balance of Posey’s “peas in a pod” threesome—is applicable to girls of all ages. Some of my struggling readers who are in 4th and 5th grade are reading—and enjoying—this story. The format is that of a regular junior-fiction chapter book. The reading level is early second grade which makes it accessible, but not appearing too “babyish,” for the less-proficient older reader.

Grade 1 and up; in this relatable, age-appropriate entry in the PRINCESS POSEY series, Posey feels unhappy when a new girl enters her class and seems to hone in on her friendships, but she soon learns to be more understanding and open-minded. In addition to relatively simple sentence structure and short chapters that are perfect for newer readers, Posey's actions (and reactions) will likely feel very familiar and realistic to many readers - which could make this series an exciting first journey into chapter books. Posey has two best friends and does not need anyone else in her group of friends. A new girl, Grace, comes to Posey's first grade class, and Posey has no interest in including her. This quickly changes when Posey's two best friends start talking to Grace and wanting to hang out with her. Soon, Posey feels left out and realizes how hurtful it is to leave people out. She changes her mind and sees how much fun the four girls could have being new best friends.

when a new first grader comes to Posey's first grade class her best friends start to hang out with her instead of Posey. so Posey has to think of a way to get her friends to hang out with her instead of the new first grader.

My 4yos are big fans of Posey - and here's another solid entry in the series. Posey has to adjust to new student Grace, making room in her circle of friends and her play. Keep 'em coming, Stephanie!

I did not enjoy this book. I feel as though the story was very basic and would not grab children to want to read. I know that I had a problem continuing on.
