It seems I'm the odd fish out regarding this book. My experience with it has been well far away from 3, 4 or 5 stars.

My problems were:

--The writing. I read this book and it left an unpleasant taste in my mouth. It reminded my of a bottle of sparkling wine left open too long. It's utterly flat and has a weird taste, no matter how good the wine was. And, believe me, this wasn't a good bottle to begin with.
Flat and didascalic are the only characteristics I could find. Uninteresting might be an other, but that pertains the plot not the writing.

--The plot. Even with a serial killer on the rampage (again...) there is no mystery, no suspense. You know who the bad guy is the moment he enter the scene. You know who has bound the witch the moment the bindings are quoted. I can't even say I was interested in how they get to know who the bad guy is.

--The characters. What characters? The cardboard figures were unbelievably boring.
The leading lady is so worthless in any thing she does you wonder how she got to be where she is. Her only "power" is supposed to be knowledge. When you stop laughing at the way she is portrayed, you see she has no agency at all. She can't even control the vision which are supposed to be her forte. She gets her ass kicked every few pages and has no backbone to go with it. She has to be saved constantly.
The vampire. I take the monster every day compared to this whiner. If you survived your past, you can't be this broken and still function. He is really unpalatable to me.
And why the ménage a trois? (It's not a triangle if you have sex with both :P)

--The sex. I wasn't sure this was a UF or erotica. There was so much meaningless sex I couldn't believe it. If you get a look at my bookshelves, you'll realize I'm no prude. But I'd really like to see the sex scenes as part of the story. Here they were used as an excuse for anything. (I have read and liked the Riley Jenson series, so I know what I'm talking about :D)
There's also a (almost) rape scene. Do you think it affected the heroine?
Well, you guessed right.

Anwyn Rose is a witch, not a gifted witch as her previous ancestors but a witch that does have one use to see the last minutes of a victims life. This gift has her working as a detective for the Preternatural Investigation Team. Her newest assignment with Detective Mike Malone has the makings of a rogue vampire. Her crush is Galen, a vampire and all leads are pointing to him. Will the killer turn out the man she wants?

I found myself at odds on who I want Anwyn with, I really liked the cockiness of Mike but Galen had a mysterious quality to him. Quirky hero and I liked how the author wrote this, you can visualize everything. Full of intriguing characters who you want to know more about.

My English review

I was very intrigued by this novel when I read the summary and I was therefore curious to discover this new book by Roxanne Rhoads. I must say that I was quite surprised by the story itself, I was expecting a fairly typical urban fantasy novel, but it is quite different from that. The romance side has an essential place in the story, it is indeed what leads the plot and the investigation of our heroine.

Anwyn is a witch, member of a police that deals with paranormal cases. But recently a vampire drains and kills many young women, leaving little trails behind him. But our heroine is determined to understand what is happening, especially when it seems that everything is linked to Galen, the vampire she likes as she is convinced of his innocence. But even if she knows that, she still doesn’t know who is behind all the murders. In addition to that, she has to face two men who would love to have her in their bed. She was alone for a long time, it is now a really big change. But how could she choose between Malone, her boss and the Galen the vampire, when they are so different? So? It is quite complicated. Well I understand it is quite difficult for her to choose between the two of them but I think I have a soft spot for our little vampire. He is "damaged", fragile, and it is true that we want to help and hug him, while Malone is more confident and determined in his actions. Each has his own qualities and defects, but a common goal, the lovely Wyn.

I admit that this first novel made me very curious about the rest of the story. Roxanne Rhoads introduced us several ideas, many characters and I really want to learn more about them. We learn a little about each of the protagonists, enough for us to ask many questions about each of them. The plot is not very complicated and when I wondered about some aspects of the story, about the things that Rose could learn, I confess I had not really thought about this reason and this culprit for the murders. Many things are started here and I am intrigued by the following events, particularly about the relations of our heroine.

Hex and the Single Witch is a tale about a single witch that finds herself caught in the middle of some supernatural murders where one side of her love triangle could be the murderer.

First let’s start off with the love triangle part. Anwyn the young and lovely witch has not one but two guys wanting her. I’m normally a sucker (no pun intended) for vampires but in this love triangle I was rooting for the human all the way. Where Galen the vamp didn’t do anything for me; I was fanning myself over the human alpha cop, Mike Malone.

I just felt like Mike and Anwyn had a better and real connection. Galen and Anwyn’s relationship just seemed too forced, seemed like the only thing that drawn them together was just plan lust and the fact that they were both non-humans.

As far as the murder mystery in the plot, it had me guessing the whole time; which I love when a book’s plot is not predictable. BRAVO to Ms. Rhodes for making me think while I read her book.

Hex and the Single Witch had a little bit of everything from romance, murder and snarky one liners. If you are looking for a quick, steamy and well fleshed out plot to read then you should give Anwyn, Mike and the others a go in the first book of the Vehicle City Vampires series.

My Take:
This book was refreshingly good. As you know I have a thing about self-published books or books published by the owner's company. But this has a really good story, as well as good plotting and continuity (although I thought it was a little predictable). I though the timing was great, with action and other kinds of "action" keeping things moving. I liked Anwyn; she's a little insecure, unsure of er looks and doesn't mention much in the way of relationship history. So, she's not unlike many of us. She's never really developed into her "full potential" and I think many of us feel the same way. In this case there really are external forces keeping her down. I like her non-judgmental character and open mindedness. I liked her human beau, Mike, despite his crude boorishness; after all it's a smokescreen. But I could do without the Regency-Period-Born formerly rakish Vampire; he was a little too feminine for me (granted, a Regency man might seem affected and effeminate with all those patches and ruffles.

Some things that were really well done:

Main character development: You know a lot about Anwyn and how she experiences her abilities.
Good sex writing — even the dead women's memories are somehow arousing to Anwyn. She feels really weird about it though.
Description of magic and what it feels like to be magicked --Not many writers bother with this and I felt it added a lot when she would describe the different feelings associated with different spells or types of magic. Plus, Anwyn can in her self-described "slutty" behavior on a hex!
Good interpersonal relationships with Anwyn and her quirky friend Melanie who reminds me of Abby in NCIS. Also, I liked the down to earthiness of Abby's Grandmother who can cause goats to appear when she gets pissed off - imagine the implications for road rage,

Four things I think Roxanne could work on:

The dialogue is a little stiff and characters need to use contractions to make the speech seem less formal. In some instances this is due to one character's formal nature. But it bleeds out into other characters as well.
You know the history channel where after each break they tell you everything you have learned so far over again. Roxanne does that a little. Now, if this were a serialized novel it would be important to reiterate the plot point that her mother has had the porch light on but no one home since her father died. There are a few other instances.
Info-dumping: Roxanne generally escapes the evils of exposition and she has to give us her world's historic context somehow, but she dumps a lot of information into just a couple of conversations and internal monologue at the beginning of the book.
Something with the verb tenses confused me but I can't quite put my finger on it.

All in all, I thought this was a pretty good book. It grabbed me right away and kept me involved through the end. Roxanne obviously works hard at developing her craft and knows her paranormal theme well.

Anwyn Rose is the supernatural liaison of the P.I.T. (Preternatural Investigation Team) Crew in Flint, MI. She is a witch with the ability to "read" a person by touching them; whether they are alive or dead. Her talent is being put to good use in Vehicle City where a string of murders is plaguing this dying city. It seems that Flint has a new vampire in town that is killing off women left and right but able to block himself from Anwyn's sight as she reads the victims.

Anwyn works along side Mike Malone, a hot Detective with his eyes on her...ALL of her if had his way. He is not of the supernatural but is also part of the P.I.T. Crew. His sexual banter with Annie, as he calls her, is intense and, even though it makes her blush, she is totally into it. When Mike finally gets a chance with Anwyn will he be able to persuade her that a human male is what she needs/wants/truly desires?

Galen is a sexy, ancient vampire that caught Anwyn's eye at a party thrown by her best friend, and fellow witch, Mel. He is her secret crush but turns into something more as the story progresses. It seems that he is being targeted as the source of all the dead bodies strewn about in Flint. Anwyn doesn't believe it to be true but can't hide from the situation, causing there to be a tad bit of tension.

Anywn gets embroiled in sexual situations with both Mike and Galen that puts a strain on both guys, as well as herself. This love triangle between Anywn and her men puts a sexually charged twist on the novel. Jealous human versus jealous vamp...She is attracted to both men but will she end up with one or neither of them?

I really enjoyed "Hex and the Single Witch." I'm a former Flint girl - I grew up outside of Flint but spent a lot of time in the city and township limits. I was able to place each and every reference to a street or location in my mind. When Anwyn exited I-75 at Pierson Rd. to go into Flushing, I could picture Meijer, and all of the restaurants she would have passed, the Bowling Alley where I used to be on leagues, and the Rite Aid and US-23 Supermarket (which I think is now a Kroger) as she got to Elms Rd.

The character development, overall, was decent and we got a little bit of the who's and why's about each main player. The history behind Anwyn's parent's is a crucial part of one plot line, and Ms. Rhoads does a great job in introducing it and weaving it throughout the novel. The history behind Galen is a huge part of the entire novel and is explained, developed, and drawn out appropriately.

There is definitely some strange magic in Flint; some good, some not so much.

The ending includes a nice, mild cliffhanger, which did it's intended job.....I am now left wanting more!

To be honest this series totally reminds me of a mixture of the Anita Blake Series (Laurell K. Hamilton), Stella Mayweather Series (Camilla Chafer) and the Graveyard Queen Series (Amanda Stevens). You've got your love triangle between a human, a witch and a vampire and all of the amazing preternatural things happening around them in Vehicle City. I'm seriously loving this combination and looking forward to the rest of this series.

It does contain quite the ADULT content, but it works so well in this plot line. The paranormal beings mix so well with all of the lustful scenes - they kind of go hand in hand throughout the entire book.

I loved Anwyn as the main character - she is strong, powerful and determined. I love that her character is a witch and not a vampire like so many other paranormal books lately. Witches fascinate me and between Anwyn and her BFF, Mel, I learned so much about them. Mel and Anwyn have this amazing friendship where they just know each other so well and share a snarcastic attitude.

The entire story is filled with so many quirky comments, little tidbits of interest (like the changing ringtones that Anwyn doesn't remember changing - this will be explained in book two), the different paranormal beings (aka Others - weres, shifters, vamps, fae, gnomes, demons and more) that I've never really known, and a few questions to be answered in the follow up books in the series.

And throughout all of the relationship building, smexy scenes and magick - there is a murderer on the loose that Anwyn and her P.I.T. Crew (Preternatural Investigation Team) need to track down and capture. So many elements come together to make this story work.

I would strongly suggest this book to those who enjoy a great paranormal story with some amazing between the sheets scenes.

Wow!! What a great start to what I am sure will be a long pined after series!! Roxanne does a great job of creating "real" characters that you can relate to and become invested in. All of the characters are well developed and create a unique storyline that is mysterious and encompasses you to the last word! I absolutely love Anwyn (which means beautiful pure and fair). She is a well rounded character that you definitely route for all through the book. There is some heat to this novel so be ready to get your blood flowing!! Blood, Sex & Magick... seems to be the perfect ingredients for Roxanne Rhoads. I look forward to reading more of the Vehicle City Vampires and Roxanne's other books. Definitely suggest reading this if you are a fan of the paranormal genre!!

Disclosure: I received a copy of the book for review purposes only. I was not compensated to write a positive or favorable review. This is Keeping Up With The Rheinlander's personal opinion.

The last in a long line of very powerful witches, Anwyn, unbelievably, can barely cast spells. She does the best she can by serving as the resident Other Liaison in the Preternatural Investigation Team, or PIT, as it is known to the Flint Area Other community. Now, with her limited powers failing her, she must hunt down an Other killer before any more women die.

One look at the book cover and I fully expected this book to be hot. Starting with the very first line... "Vampires strutted their stuff on a runway to Right Said Fred's "Too Sexy." I was hooked and could not put this down. Equal parts suspense and sexual tension Hex and the Single Witch will keep you at the edge of your seat.

I am probably the odd one out in this BUT I was rooting for the human in the vampire/human/female witch love triangle. He had more oomph to him than the vampire. Galen was made out to be intense and broody, but he was down right annoying.

I enjoyed that Anwyn, the witch, remained an adult about her love life. Too many heroine’s tend to revert to that insecure state where they question whether their love interests like them, why they are feeling what they’re feeling and etc. I call that “stuck in my head” syndrome.
But to be honest, I found Anwyn a little boring. She seemed tough as nails but she didn’t spark much in me. Maybe because she was far too sheltered. I also felt that her expertise in the book was lacking. She relied on her friend a lot. I know that she had some issues coming into her powers, but being a witch isn’t just about powers. It’s about your knowledge and your connection to that knowledge. As a Spiritual Wiccan, that I know well.

However, damn that was one helluva interesting twist in the plot. I did enjoy that the action and excitement in this book wasn’t predictable. You were kept guessing until the end.

Editing was also a key factor in the rating. I know, as a independent author, it is tough to find people who will edit and beta read for you, but it is really important. Even if you end up sitting on your story for a while. Just a personal note. It can be really distracting to see errors and you itch to want to fix them but can’t. *Sad Face*.

Anyhow, I did enjoy this and I do recommend this for any True Blood fans. It’ll hit nice and close to home with this novel.

Fun setting, great characters, Flint!

I am not normally one to pursue paranormal romance or erotica, and this book has plenty of both, so if you are shy or squeamish about sex, heads up. However, at the risk of sounding like the person who reads Playboy for the articles, there is a really cool story and setting here in between all the really intense sex. Flint is a mixed, paranormal community with mundane and magickal law enforcement trying to keep the peace between both. I'm only giving four stars because I feel like there were paragraphs and bits of dialogue here and there that could have used a little more editing; repeated phrases or repetitive narrative without any emotional linkage.

Trigger warning: Rape and sexual harassment. Yes, it's erotica, but still.

All said, eager to see how the plot develops in following books.

This book has it all vampires, witches and others mixed in. The plot is unique and the characters are very interesting. Steamy romance scenes makes this a great book to read. I highly recommend this book.

I really liked this story. An interesting concept, like-able characters and storyline. It's just missing a small little...something. And that would have taken this book from "alright" to "amazing".

Interesting plot with a lot of twist. The characters are deep with complicate feelings and intriguing past. Too bad the book badly needs more than a few editings. Too many sentences are messed up and confusing and some passages need to be cleaned to be clearer. To add to my deception, this is only the begining of the story but the sequel is still unpublished. Though I'm not sure I would read the next book if it lack work as much as this one.

What a fantastic new book for a series!! It's a fantastic way to mix both the old and the new. New world that is ok with using supernatural abilities to solve crimes, while keeping some of the more intimate details of the supernatural still hidden. It's definitely intriguing and a great start to a new series.

Anwyn is a likable character because she is cool and yet she has normal flaws. She's a little bit self conscious about herself, in a few ways, but who isn't? Yet, she's always willing to go the extra mile to help. She's determined, and though she sometimes wants to please-her family- she is always willing to say that some things will never be "fixed". She's got great character development, as you get to see into her past and know what she's coming from, but you also get to see how she is coming into her present. Plus, she has a very peculiar ability. She can not only see your past by touching, she can FEEL it too. Boy, does this take a horrible effect on her when a raping serial killer is out and about.

Melanie is a cool best friend. And her ganny- I will never look at goats and cows the same :) Mike is her partner in job, who happens to be crudely how! Galen is the lusty vampire who is having some serious control issues. And the bad guys are scary, but I will say, I knew who the bad guy was when he entered. I'm ok with that, because I didn't see the "what and how" coming, even though I knew the "who". And you ALMOST get a love triangle. I'm happy with how things ended, but for those of you who aren't into that, maybe you'll be happy since it's an almost :)

Overall, I can't wait to get book two. After that little bomb Anwyn gets at the end, I am dying to know what's gunna happen. I love supernatural mysteries. With action, and some seriously steamy romance, and a wonderful assortment of characters, it's an all around good time. I am only missing the HAWT werewolf to drool over LOL :) 4.5 MYSTERIOUSLY SEXY PAWS!!

3.5 really

Anwyn Rose is a witch and a member of the Preternatural Investigation Team of Flint, Michigan. She is partnered with a steamy hunk of a man whose smarmy harassment seems to hide a delicious, Carmel-soft core and is tentatively sticking her toes into the supernatural dating realm with an emotionally damaged, possible dangerous, sex-on-a-stick vampire. Things regularly heat up. This is PNR, bordering on erotica. Yum

What I like about Anwyn and her situation is that she is an adult. While she worries about the course of her relationships and how it might effect her work, she never has to bother with the juvenile, ‘what is this strange feeling I have,’ does he like me back,’ ‘how could he love someone like me?’ She understands her own lust, knows what she wants, and is willing and able to recognise the same in her partner. It is refreshing to not have to wade through all that angst. She is also really funny.

Though not HE, I appreciate that the author is willing to acknowledge that immortal beings or morally corrupt demons aren’t really going to care much about traditional mores against same-gender encounters. There aren’t a lot of them in the book and they are brief sighting really, but they occur as easily and unobtrusively as any other…and are damn hot. By the same token, demons are involved, so reasonably so is a little bit of sexual deviance that can be a little on the uncomfortable side.

Poor Flint, Michigan is in trouble. Some sort of ‘big bad’ is coming and Anwyn and her team are trying to figure it out. She manages to solve a few hiccup-type problems in this book and make a little headway into the hex issue, but definitely doesn’t solve THE problem. I guess I’ll have to wait for the sequel for that. It was a little repetitive at times and it also felt like the immediate Devlin/Galen/Roarke issue resolved itself far too easily. All-in-all it was an enjoyable evening’s read.

I was so excited to pick up this book! I’ve been on the look out for a paranormal thriller and this hit me at just the right time! Technically, it’s a paranormal romance, and, boy! Let me just tell you, it’s that too! In SPADES!! But the plot was what I was searching for, and Ms. Rhoads didn’t disappoint me here. At all!

I love the fact that Ms. Rhoads chose to write a mc who wasn’t really awesome. She’s a witch who has no super extraordinary gift. She can basically feel when things are right or wrong, and generally gets this sense of ‘knowing’. So she’s the kind of character that has to really work hard to be the hero.

Another thing I liked was the set up of the Preternatural Investigation Team, or the P.I.T. crew. On one hand, I liked it. On the other hand, it felt as though I’d read this before. I mean, I’ve read other stories where similar units have been formed. Heck, I wrote one with a similar team, so this wasn’t a huge ding. It simply took away from the feel of “uniqueness”. But!! This was a great element to the plot.

As you can tell, I was very excited about the plot. However, this is a paranormal romance. Love and lust are what made this book! OMW! This book was so hot! My skin felt singed…in a good way.

Ms. Rhoads has created a bit of a love triangle that…wow! It made the pages sizzle! Between her and her partner and the constant back and forth, and her and her vampire, Galen, it was non-stop HEAT!

So! What’s my take overall? It was a great book! It was wildly hot. The plot and action was great. It’s a really good paranormal erotic thriller. It just lacked a little bit in originality. I would definitely recommend reading it, though. GREAT read!

This book has great characters and a compelling story line. I liked the heroine, a sexy young witch working as a consultant to a special unit on the Flint, MI police force. The supporting cast, including two hunky love interests, one a vampire suspected as a serial killer and the other her detective boss, are interesting. The sexual tension in the first part of the book is both alluring and comical, as both males contend for the heroine’s sexual favors. Both the main story line and the back story, which promises to continue with a sequel, are well conceived, as is the paranormal world Ms. Rhoads has created.
The book was a fun read in spite of some glaring weaknesses in the author’s writing. It was well-paced, with plenty of action and lots of sex (almost too much, if that’s possible). There was a lack of subtlety in how the author revealed some of the back story, and she had a tendency to repeat herself, sometimes in the same paragraph. The main character at times fell into ruminations that could last an entire chapter, and the use of punctuation seemed completely random and confusing at times, with periods in the middle of a sentence and commas used at the wrong times which completely changed to intended meaning of the sentences. I think all those shortcomings could have been overcome with a little editing, but the author seems to have skipped that process.
Overall, I really enjoyed the book. It was a lot of fun, and I hope there is a sequel available soon. I rated it four stars out of five.

First I have to say I absolutely love the cover art for this book. It caught my attention right away. Though I know I'm not supposed to
"judge a book by it's cover" I often find myself turning away from boring covers and going for those that capture my interest more often than I should.

Hex and the Single Witch is Book 1 of the Vehicle City Vampires Series by author Rhoxanne Rhoads. In this book I was introduced to Anwyn Rose - absolutely love the name - who is a young witch with little power. I don't like giving spoilers and telling the whole story, so I won't.

This book is well-written, with great introductions to the characters and a little of what they are about, or what makes them tick, so to speak. Although this is not the type of book I generally like to read, I did find myself caught up in the adventure, and wanting to know what happens next. I like how the author Continue Reading

There is a love triangle in this book but this time it's not with a werewolf! It's between a witch, a human and a vampire. Annwyn spends the book going from one to the other, sometimes literally the same evening, all the while saying that she's not that sort of girl. This got a bit monotonous to be honest! There are other characters in this that help the story along. Mel is an awesome best friend, who can build you up as well as take no s**t.

To be honest, I'm struggling a bit with what to say about this book. I enjoyed it, I really did. But parts of it were just meh for me. I didn't really care about Galen or Mike and the bit with the Mother was there for all to see from the word go.

So I think I'll leave it as if you want some Paranormal Romance that's a bit spicy, then give this one a go. I don't think I'll be going for any more of this series though. I would read more by the author though.

In the beginning I thought the book would be as atmospherical as "Dead Witch Walking" from the Hollows Series, but I was mistaken. The heroine, Anwyn, was a slut, trying to persuade us she is not. I don't have a problem if she was really one, but messing with the hearts of 2 men considering them both as her boyfriends and feeling jealous of them watching the threesomes, well... I was not convinced. As for the witch part, well, you and I could be more witches than her. (Ah yes, she was hexed, I forgot...) She acted more like a bitch. I felt sorry for Malone wondering how he happened to be in a wrong novel and I totally disliked Galen, not sharing Anwyn's pity and cries for helping him at all. I dont have the slightest interest as to who could be responsible for the hexing, or who Anwyn might choose for sexual partner. As I see it, she'll probably stay with the one that won't dump her or she will add to her collection a third whole of manly muscles.

Hex and the Single Witch (Vehicle City Vampires #1) (Roxanne Rhoads)

Anwyn Rose is a witch ,but not very good witch, she has not quite mastered her powers yet. She is also a Detective on Flint’s (Michigan) Preternatural Investigation Team(P.I.T). She helps the police with their investigations with supernaturals. Her partner is flirty Mike Malone and they are investigating a murder. One of the main suspects is the gorgeous vampire Galen.

During the investigation Awyn finds herself involved with both Galen and Malone, which complicates the situation. Soon Awyns' life is in danger, but the P.I.T and Awyn won't stop until the killer is caught.

Great story line, but I would have preferred more investigation action and less sex. I did like the characters and the supernaturals. I would be interested in reading the second in the Vehicle City Vampires series.

I was all caught up in the witch/cop/vampire mix. I kept pulling for the cop. But then the vamp would entrance me & I was torn. I must have the next installment. So glad this was referred to me. I really love the paranormal theme. Especially when there are witches in the mix. Cant wait to find out how powerful she becomes. I really like Mel also. Great Friend & powerful witch. Her mom & Grandma left me feeling dissed, Like they just did not need her. Kinda got the vibe there might be more to Mike than meets the eye. Cant wait to see more of him!! I feel like I just
made a bunch of new friends. I could actually see things happening in my mind. Very well written. If you are thinking of purchasing this i highly recommend it.

Hex and the Single Witch is a steamy, compelling paranormal / Urban fantasy. I enjoyed the setting, cast of interesting characters and, of course, the heat level. The "world" Ms. Rhoads has created is one full of magic and Otherworldly creatures, which live along side the normal humans-- so someone has to bridge the divide and try to keep the peace by being part of an elite police unit. And that someone is a witch with limited abilities (or so it may seem), a saucy best friend and Magic-Tech-nerd, an always-flirting partner and a make-you-melt Vamp with a sorrid past. Throw in a few randy hexes and you've got yourself all the trappings for a page turner.

Can't wait to read book two in the series!

This was a wonderful paranormal story!! What's a girl to do when you have two sexy men after you and the city is going crazy with paranormal crime? That's what is going on in Anwyn Rose ' s life. She is a witch from a long line of witches and a detective with the paranormal crime unit. She has one gorgeous vampire who wants to date her and maybe have her for lunch. The detective she works with has a crush on her to add more problems to her life. Can things get more complicated? Oh yes it can went all the paranormal creatures are going crazy in the city. Make sure when you read this book you're somewhere where it's cool because this book is hot. It is one page turner you won't want to put down. I hope the next book in the series comes out soon because I must read it.

I wish there was a way for me to give this book 3.5 stars, as right now I am wavering between a 4 for story and 3 for writing. As much as I enjoyed the story - and it was a fun story with witches, vampires, fae, and the start of an interesting back story of a 'Others' war that happened when the heroine was a child - I had serious issues with grammatical errors and loose writing. After a few times of coming across such things as 'shear' for 'sheer', 'taught' for 'taut', 'full proof' for 'fool proof,' I started to get twitchy. I'm going to continue reading this series (Mike, oh my!), and I really hope that Ms. Rhoads improves her writing style.

Vampires, Witches and hunky police officers...what is not to like?! The synopsis caught my attention and I figured lets give this one a try. I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed this story. I started the book in hopes of getting sleepy and I had to turn off my Kindle to go to bed, it was hard. 5 minutes later I grabbed my Kindle and had to know what happened!

There was quite a bit of suspense and the story line moved along smoothly. Definitely kept me wanting to know what happened next. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Alright

I skipped over the retelling of the main characters lineage and childhood about 5 times. I also had to skip over the same character descriptions about 5 times. Then it really annoyed me that 110lbs is somehow the definition of "curvy" in this book.

I gave it 2.5 stars for the romance with the cop. It was so repetitive in every detail. Also, the conversations between characters has no flow. It's choppy and packed with too many words.
