The idea is nice and the art is not bad, but something is missing. It could be better, still not a bad read.

I borrowed this graphic novel from my best friend as she had recently picked it up, read it and loved it, and I have to say I was not disappointed at all. This is a retelling or reimagining of various different fairy tales with some stunning artwork to go alongside. As the reader we follow a story being told by a mother to her son and initially it feels very true to the classic story of Red Riding Hood, but that soon changes...

I loved the artwork so much within this book. Not only is it truly captivating in terms of the layouts, direction of the story and the dynamic sets. It's equally a fabulously realised story with some rich, dreamy colour palettes, superb characters with excellent movement and dynamism in their poses and facial expression, and it's down-right fun.
I think that the characters themselves were beautifully drawn and designed, and the story and artwork is just captivating throughout. It does have a cartoon-y style, and yet it works really well and the artwork seriously compliments the story.

The story focuses on Fablewood which is where many storybook characters live under the rule of evil Grimm. It's got echoes of Fables, and various spin offs like that, but it also includes less predictable stories and doesn't just repeat what's been done before. I liked seeing the sense of rebellion and adventure within many of the characters, and I think it was somewhat dark and creepy in places too (although this is probably suitable for older children, aged 9+ probably).

Overall it's a fabulous read and I'm super happy to hear that there is a second one out. I will be buying myself a copy of this one and the second very soon so I can own them for myself but I would say if you want something beautiful, witty and with some cute twists on the classic fairytale stories then this is a great one. 4.5*s overall :)

I found myself pleasantly surprised by this graphic novel. To be honest, the depiction of Red Riding Hood is a bit grating, but that aside this is a wonderful look at narrative and individuality.

Red and some other residents, including various famous fairy tale characters, have decided that they do not like their prescribed roles a la Brother Grimm. What follows is a quest to find a way out.

The book is pretty good, nice action, smart characters, and there are good hints and asides that indicate not only the writer but the artist are familiar, very familiar, with the tales.

I love when an original concept is taken and thrown on its head and that’s what this graphic novel does with the ideas of the Grimm classic tales. And also Paul Jenkins!

In a world where Mr. Grimm controls the story characters' outcomes. Little Red and her pal, Woof, choose to break the rules. In this story the villains are not always the bad guys, just ask Woof (AKA the Big Bad Wolf). Red and Woof travel the lands of Fablewood to find a way to the place that breaks the rules known as the Real World. They travel through Pan's Neverland and Cinderella's realm. All leading them to the unknown parts of the Dark Forest. Can't wait to see more on these characters and hear their backstories. Like how did Red meet Peter Pan? How did she befriend the wary Woof? Could the man from the Real World they are looking for be another fairy tale writer (the other Grimm brother, Charles Perrault, Hans Christian Andersen, etc.)?

I love anything to do with fairytales, so was very excited to start reading this and it definitely did not disappoint. I loved the story where Mr Grimm controls all of the fairy tale characters enforcing their stories. The storyline actually reminded me a bit of the book Letters To Zell by Camille Griep as that had the same idea of obeying the story-lines but not necessarily wanting to. I also absolutely loved the artists drawing style. I look forward to reading the next volume.

Well played and tastefully drawn, with vibrant colorings and intriguing snippets of favored fairy tales. Would not have minded a slower pace to soak up more from each charater. Next book perhaps.

If you know what I mean... 😏

This was a surprise!

It came up as a suggestion somewhere and then I had to wait a little bit till I could get my hands on a cheap second-hand copy.

If there's something I really don't like in comics is the art gallery at the end of the volume. I mean, it uses up pages that could have been used better by telling the main story. I was really into the story here and then... cliffhanger as big as Texas and ten pages of gallery. Yuck!

Apparently the first installment came out in 2008... The second in 2015... Well, it surely took his time.

We're in Fablewood, a place where all fairy tales characters live together. Mister Grimm is the boss and he doesn't want things to change. Every character has a role and it has to fulfill it. Every single day. Then, one day Red Riding Hood becomes friend with the Big Bad Wolf... They need to flee and are helped by a red-headed Peter Pan.

I love the way all the fairy tale characters are mixed together. I love the art and I think the story has so much potential. Still, if it comes out every seven years, I'm not sure I'll read the third one. I mean, seven years from now I would have forgotten everything. Even where I shelved the first two volumes.

In Fairy Quest, we see a world where all of the fairy tales we know are actually happening under the tyrannical management of Mr. Grimm. Characters are supposed to act out their stories to the letter or face a fairy-tale version of the Gestapo, as Grimm brooks no deviation from the line whatsoever. It could make for a fun story, but honestly, it's all so overblown from the start that it's hard to get into and after a while, you care so little, it becomes hard to follow. The art by Huberto Ramos is a prime source of the confusion, being so stylized and over the top in every frame that it kind of feels like eating a slice of cake with way too much icing on it. One feels that across the board, if this were done with more restraint, it would have worked much better. Alas.

Wow! The 2 and half year wait was well worth it! Once again, another neat little treat that I am glad that I got from KickStarter! I got the first three Volumes from KickStarter! On top of that, this is my kind story! A land where every story, fable, tale, and legend exists and is real! What really sold me was the fact that The main characters are Red Riding Hood and the Big "Bad" Wolf! I love it! My obsession with all things wolves and werewolves, I knew that I had to get in on these graphic novels! With that said, the plot was unique and great! The characterizations were amazing! The art was absolutely beautiful! I recommend this story wholeheartedly! And I can't wait to see what happens next!

LOVED the artwork. I liked the overall premise and that these characters are not only not-who-you-think-they-are but they are also forced to carry out their stories - kinda like enslaved actors. Red is courageous and fun, but not much development happens with her. Maybe the next book? The Wolf is simply delightful. It was fun seeing each character and discovering what they are actually like. The pacing was a bit manic, but the artwork was a saving grace for the manic-ness of it all.

Fairy Quest is such a unique take on the classic fairytales. Basically, the characters are all actors in a world called FableWood that is controlled by Grimm. They have to play their parts or risk getting their memories erased. I really adore the relationship between Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. The artwork is beyond amazing and I can't get enough of it. Can't wait to see what's in store for these characters in the future.

So the characters and plot are great! I like the idea of fairy tale characters revolting against Grimm (their Creator) of following the same stories over and over again. But if Red Riding Hood and the Wolf end up at RealWorld, what happens then? Also, I like how the Wolf’s background story is presented in dreams. That would explain his distrust towards others.

Just read Fables already - it's a lot better, you don't get Peter Pan, and they actually know not to reveal who the big bad is within a couple of panels... It's little wonder this only survived two volumes.

If you like retellings

This is the adventures of Red and the big bad wolf except their friends running from a mad scientist! I have found a new graphic novel to love, and the artwork is fantastic.

An interesting take on what it means to be in a story versus reading a story. I really enjoyed getting to see a new perspective of Grimm's fairy tales.
