Ara ara baktığım bir çocuk kitabıydı. Bu sefer tamamladım. Çocuklar için oldukça yararlı bir kaynak niteliğinde olmuş. Bilimsel açıklamalar sıkıcı değil kesinlikle. Çocuklara okumaları için özendirilmeli kitaplardan.

Bize böyle anlattılar da biz mi okulu sevmedik! Çoğuna bayıldım. Metaforlar, benzetmeler o kadar iyi ki neden kimse bize söylemedi diye üzüldüm. Sanki hiç kadın yoktu kitapta, kontrol etmedim ama sanki... Üzücü.

This is one of those books that reminds me of why all adults should visit the Children's Department every once in a while. The questions asked by kids, and the answers they got from the Nobel Prize winners were touching, funny, odd, serious, and a few were kind of boring. But overall, this was a book to make you rethink your priorities.
The questions were simple (What makes the sky blue?, Why do we have to go to school?, What is love?) and the answers tried to make the complexities of these issues understandable. Sometimes they succeeded, others they didn't. The questions range from humanitarian to scientific to political, and so different chapters should definitely appeal to different readers. This would be a great discussion book - certain chapters would definitely begin some lively discussion and debate, either with parents, teachers, or librarians.

I love the premise: kids pose questions, Nobel Prize winners answer them. However, with each answer being around 10 pages the Nobel winners use the questions as a launching pad for ideas and asides. If you don't pay careful attention you might get to the end of the chapter and think, wait a minute, how did he or she end up talking about _______ when the question was about ____________? I learned new things and thought about things in new ways. I learned about Nobel Prize winners beyond Peace Prize winners. My 7-year-old daughter became curious and started reading some of the chapters.

Look past the gaps of translation and you have a easy book for kids ages 8-11. Filled with questions on love, war, peace and French fries- this collection is simple yet thoughtful. Good for adults too. I skipped a few but even so I still felt the basic humanity and earnest wisdom of the authors. Even though it’s a bit dated (book is from 2003) this collection contains relevant issues for whatever year you discover it. A great way to lessen the burden of parents who find them selves at a loss when their kids get asky.

If you want an answer to a question, why not turn to some of the world’s recognized experts? In this book, over 20 of the world’s Nobel Prize (Including the Dalai Lama, Mikhail Gorbachev, Shimon Peres) winners give their answers to some of kids’ most burning questions like: “Why can’t I live on French Fries?” and “Why is the sky blue?” Each question is answered seriously and uniquely, and will make readers learn and think. Die erste Frage, was kommt wirklich von den Nobelpreisträgern, was von der Herausgeberin, die das ganze noch „kindgerechter“ macht? Der einzige, der eine vernünftige Sprache spricht, ist Gorbatschow. Dann schmuggeln sie auch noch einen Träger des alternativen Nobelpreises ein, der die Kinder mit homoöpathischen Unsinn infiltriert. Eine Schande. Insgesamt sehr schwach.

I LOVED this book. Picture the world's greatest current minds explaining their theories/life philosophies/solutions to ALL problems in language a 12 year old could understand and comprehend. Some of it was downright beautiful. I plan on reading many of these outloud to my 7th graders.

I think my hopes for this book might have been too high; it's such an interesting concept! Unfortunately, all the questions were very broad, and didn't much lend themselves to strongly-written answers.

I read this book in German as the language is only intermediate as it is written for children. The idea is a great one: Kid ask questions and Noble Prize winners answer. The execution was only okay in my opinion.
