Cleo’s life had always been far from perfect. She’d considered herself lucky because she had a little sister she adored and close friends she could always count on. But after the unexpected death of her mom, life became a whole lot more complicated. Until the day she tumbled into Reece’s arms. He was the one who led her through the darkest days of her life.
Reece knew how ridiculous it was to think that he was going to end up with the girl he dated in high school. But he had foolishly thought that he and Cleo had a chance. They’d clicked in a way that went far deeper than he ever thought possible. So, ridiculous or not, he had thought he and Cleo would be forever.
But then without warning, she’d ripped his heart out and tossed it back to him.
So obviously, he had been wrong. Now he’s not sure how he’s going to be able to deal with seeing her every day. Now that she’s so over him.
Or…maybe she’s not?
Because what Reece doesn’t know is that Cleo has a secret. If it had been up to her? She would never have let him go.
After having a near perfect relationship for over a year, Cleo broke up with Reece at the end of their junior year of high school. Reece is devastated. So is Cleo... Cleo had really no choice in the matter. The only family Cleo has left is her little sister Luci, who Cleo has taken care of since her mom passed. They live with Luci's father Paul- but he isn't around much. Reece has both parents, and they are very wealthy. Reece's father thinks he knows what is best for Reece. Where he should go to college, work etc. He only wants Reece to have the best of everything and follow in his footsteps, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that happens. Reece and Cleo are apart all summer. Then their senior year of high school begins. They have a class together where they are partnered up. Cleo is forced to face Reece and answer for her actions the prior school year...
Oh I loved Reece- he was the sweetest guy ever! And my heart broke for Cleo. I'm so happy she had Reece and her sister and a few good friends to count on. I also ended up really liking Reece's mom Beth as the story went on. A book about true love overcoming all obstacles.
Oh Amity Hope, I think I fall in love with your talent with each book of yours.
Best part of book: WOW!! I really loved this story! Reece and Cleo are too great characters. I loved Cleo because she was a good person just trying to do the right thing for her little sister. I loved Reece because he was so caring for Cleo, even if they were not together. Also, I love Amity and how she she can make me feel the characters throughout the story. I cried with Cleo and her troubles. I felt frustration with Reece when he wanted Cleo back in his life. I loved it!!
Not so great about the book: I really cannot say that there isn't anything "great" about this book. I loved how Amity went from Reece and Cleo's points-of-view. I loved the back story tied everything together. I loved it all!!
Amity is amazing and I can't wait to see what she has in store next!!
Sweet story. My favorite stories are those with second chance romance. That is essentially what Crushed is. I love when a couple has a history.
Cleo and Reece dated all through their junior year. They seemed like the perfect fit. They were happy. They were in love. They were planning a future. Then Cleo breaks his heart. Reece doesn't know the real reason why. He just knows he still loves her. He misses her. He cannot seem to get over her but he wants her back.
As the story unfolds you can feel the love and the angst. Cleo has had a rough life. Reece's family has issues as well. They knew this about each other. It is what helped to bring them closer together.
I really liked both characters. I really liked the relationship between Cleo and her sister. It was very sweet and felt so real.
It did have a happy fairy tale ending but that seems to be the trend right now. I am all for big happily ever aftershave. It is the reason I read books like this.
I really liked Lucy and Beth. I am always happy when there is a strong and positive parental figure evident. Even if she was the only one. She was a good one.
I really like the concept, the characters and the overall storyline. I love how the characters have a history already.
I think it would've been a little better if told from alternating first person POV. That's my only complaint but guess it's also just a personal preferance. I am not usually crazy about 3rd person POV.
As much as I wanted it to be about the couple, Reece and Cleo, what she was going through was a good part for the book. Although the conflict was expected on Paul's end (Cleo step-dad) I was a bit hesitant about Landon. I knew he was stuck-up and awful but not that much I guess.
maybe this is not such a bad book, but i didn't like it at all. and for this were a lot of reasons.First of all it was just the typical teenage fairy tale love story, i think this type of story is just so familiar these days, or they all look alike. I kind of knew what the whole story is about reaching the 4th or 5th chapter. i was waiting for it to get better as i read but i was kind of disappointed. the basic idea is the cool rich guy, doesn't want a very pretty and rich girl but chooses a messed up one with a bunch of trouble against the will of his parents? the story was all familiar for me. second thing i didn't like was all the drama and excess emotions. i mean yes, the girl has trouble, she's been through a lot, she's still having a bad time. But she could have actually done something about it to avoid all that. third thing is that there was just something about the characters, i didn't like them. i couldn't understand why or why not they did somethings, most of the things were just fairy tale and not true at all. and some unnecessary childish behavior from the characters. i would recommend this book for a very emotional person, or maybe a 12 or 13 year old. but i don't think anyone else would enjoy it very much.
Crap balls this is hard to read. Not because of the writing or even that its YA (which isn't usually my favorite) but because its heart wrenching! Gah! Poor Reece! I just want to hug him. I mean I feel bad for Cleo too b/c she obvi has her reasons (they're mostly just hinted at right now, but it's not hard to figure out what they'll be) but poor Reece is totally in the dark! At least Cleo has Emma and her sis.. Reece has a bi*ch girlfriend and an a-hole dad!!! :((((( I'll go with 3.5 stars. Ok, I finished the book and I still stand by liking it.. It got to be a little much toward the end, in terms of dragging on and being a little cheese ball. But overall I would recommend it, if this is the type of book you like. If you have a hard time reading emotional stuff (like I do!) or if you're not in to YA, then pass this one by, but otherwise it was a cute read
This was an interesting story. It had definite dark moments... It was hard to read about Cleo's struggles. I know things like this happen but I really felt for her. It was a difficult situation and I don't think there were any other options for her at the time. Then Reece and his heartbreak... Regardless of any predictability, This was written very well- it was easy to feel the characters and be caught up in the story. As much as happy endings can be hard to come by, I definitely needed this story to have one. My heart couldn't have taken any more awful for those two.
Angsty dramatic read. Cleo and Reece had the perfect relationship, that is until Cleo ends things abruptly, not giving Reece a real explanation. After the summer and having to see each other at school again Reece is determined to get some answers. The story is basically about why they split up, and the reason(s) are revealed on small pieces, so you kinda piece it together before the characters reveal it to you. It was a good read. Not spectacular, but good.
Chloe breaks up with Reese who she's stillmadly in love with for Ethan.
Reese is devastated by Chloe leaving him for her best friends brother Ethan.
The dynamics the story are phenomenal. Your always trying to figure out what's really going on. Read this book in one sitting cause I had to know what caused th break up between Chloe an Reese.
It was a somewhat heartfelt and emotional novel but to me, it just seemed like a complete fairy tale. I don't see life happening that way at all. Although the novel was okay, it just lacked some sort of truthfulness for me.
Good quick read! This book certainly had its fair share of ups and downs. I'm not sure I have ever read a book that put you on such an emotional roller coaster. I would definitely recommend reading this one.
I really, really liked this book. The protagonist showed so much strength and I really appreciated her relationship with her sister. Definitely worth reading!
