This story picks up right where the previous installment left off. The previous installment ended with druglord, Tyson Cade, getting shot dead at the local gas station coming out of the minimart. In his dying breath, he said the name Jason Rich. Jason partners up with Shay Lankford, the former District Attorney, who lost not only two really important cases to Jason (the only two murder cases he ever tried), but she also lost the election to keep her job. Her mentor, Wish French, won and he’s a corrupt and pompous jerk. The book summary pretty much lays out the primary storyline and the first half of the story.

What the book summary doesn’t state is that Cade’s second in command, Matty Dean, and the Stone Mountain drug crew are now stalking Jason and his security team, the Tonidandel brothers, Satch, Chuck and Mickey as well as Shay and Jason’s investigator. Matty is looking for the right time to kill the brothers in order to get at Jason and he won’t hesitate to kill anyone else in Jason’s circle in order to get to Jason and the Tonidandels. All this while Matty tries to avoid getting caught by the FBI (while still engaging in his secret hookups) who are looking for him.

There is another storyline where the ex-Sheriff, Griff, who not only lost his job, but his marriage, kids, and home as well because of Tyson Cade. It’s revealed pretty early in the story that Griff has an axe to grind with Tyson as well as Matty and Jason. There is another storyline where everyone, Jason and his crew, Matty and his crew and Hatty (the new Sheriff) and her crew are looking for Dooby, the minimart clerk, who was the last person to see and talk to Tyson and who may have had her own issues with Tyson. Don’t even get me started on a few other people who had their own grudges with Tyson. Suffice it to say that there is a boatload of suspects for Tyson’s murder.

The story flips back and forth between Jason and a bunch of others: Shay, Matty, Hatty, Wish, Trudy, Dooby, etc. Most of the story revolves around finding out who really killed Tyson Cade, and how to prove it wasn’t Jason. The ending was a shocker I hadn’t seen coming and, in retrospect, I missed some seemingly irrelevant clues that weren’t. Anyway, it got a little messy at the end, which seemed like a fitting end of the series. At least for me.

At 515pgs, the story dragged in so many places, the writer, or at least the editor, should have weeded out some of the material that really had no effect on the story one way or another. The overall pacing of the story would have been greatly improved had there been a whole lot less filler material. The characterization in the series is pretty good and this installment was no different. The storyline and writing style were…..meh. I’m looking at an overall rating of 3.25, which will be rounded down to a 3star rating. I want to thank NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for sending me this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I believe this is the best of the Jason Rich series. I enjoyed the first book more than number two. This book was so much better organized and the story really came together. I am a fan of this series and will be excited to read the next installment !!

Rich Justice is Book 3 in Robert Bailey’s Jason Rich series. This book centres around its lead character -- the flamboyant, successful lawyer, Jason Rich -- after his fall from grace. He’s been struck off as an attorney and to make matters worse, as an alcoholic, has fallen off the wagon and is well and truly back on the booze. Local gangster and meth dealer, Tyson Cade was his nemesis in earlier books and caused harm to people close to Jason. In this story, Cade is murdered. As if Jason needed anything else to cause him to spiral further out of control, he is charged with Cade’s murder. There’s a well-worn adage that a lawyer who acts for himself has a fool for a client. Jason knows the saying well, but he decides he has to prove himself and being locked out of court rooms due to his suspension from practice is proving to be more than he can take. The only way he can lawfully get back before a judge and jury is to represent himself. He is allowed co-counsel and, a glutton for punishment, solicits the help of his former state prosecutor adversary, Shay. His notoriety goes before him and soon the press – local and national – is in a frenzy, covering every twist and turn in the run up to trial, then the trial itself. Outside of the legal process, things are proving to be even more dangerous for Jason. With the demise of Cade, it doesn’t take long for someone to fill the power vacuum. That someone has a history with Jason as well. And has every intention of ensuring that, unlike Jason’s two previous impossible-to-win victories, he doesn’t get to make it a third.

Robert Bailey is a thriller-writer to be reckoned with, especially when it comes to court-room dramas. The plot is clever and intriguing and he sets the pace from the outset. Readers won’t be able to turn pages quickly enough. His casting of Jason as a deeply flawed character sets Rich Justice apart from many other books in this genre, where the lead character is a kind of super-hero who can’t possibly make a mistake or lose a case – think Perry Mason. As with all this author’s novels, there are twists and turns along the way. As a lawyer in the southern states of the US himself, it is unsurprising that he knows court procedure back to front but he also writes intelligently and believably the scenes outside of the courtroom. Dialogue is sharp, script-like and credible and the narrative is tight. Rich Justice is a powerful story by one of the top writers in this genre.

3.5 stars, rounded up

When meth kingpin Tyson Cade is shot down in cold blood, Jason Rich is stunned to find himself arrested for the murder. Is it possible the "IN AN ACCIDENT? GET RICH!" Jason Rich IS guilty??

I decided to try this series again, and I'm glad I did! Yes, things still annoyed me, but far less often than in the previous book in the series, Rich Waters.

Parts of Rich Justice made me roll my eyes. Parts made me sad. And parts were hilarious. If the storyline and the pace had been tighter, I think Rich Justice would have hit it out of the ballpark. As it was, I felt that unnecessary details and repetition slowed things down. Still, I enjoyed reading this one. I loved when Jason would hear his deceased sister's voice in his head. And, although I would never have predicted this, I really liked the Tonidandel brothers; Satch, Chuck, and Mickey this time out!!

Many thanks to both #ThomasAndMercer and #NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of Rich Justice - #3 in the Jason Rich series.

This is the third book of a series (of 3?).
I read the first two and enjoyed them.
This one seemed too have too much going on in the middle that could have been edited out.
I do not recommend reading this novel as a standalone, even though it could be done.
I did like the writing style & enjoyed most of this lengthy book.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the audio book in exchange for an honest review!
This was an action packed book with an ending that was unexpected. I read and loved the first book in this series, and although I haven't read the 2nd one, I didn't feel like I was really missing any information by just jumping into the 3rd. There are some things that might be considered spoilers for the 2nd book though, so keep that in mind if you're thinking of skipping or reading out of order.
I live in the Huntsville area and it is really cool to read a book that mentions places I've been and roads o travel on a daily basis. I realize stuff like that probably happens often for those that live in a big city, but Huntsville and the surrounding cities don't get mentioned often. Lake Guntersville, Sand Mountain, and even meth mountain are familiar to everyone in this area. One can only assume that the drug trade is run very similar to how it is described in this book, and that was another point that made the story so interesting in my opinion. I also really like how the trial played out and all the hints at political corruption. I recommend this book to anyone that likes a legal thriller but especially those that live in or are familiar with North Alabama!

Run don't Walk to get Rich Justice
by Robert Bailey
Pub Date: May 7th, 2024!!! It’s OUT & so Good !!!

I anticipated this book for so long and was excited to see it pop up on my NetGalley and immediately started reading and got buckled in for the wild ride of Jason Rich and his antics. This book starts out with a bang and I felt like I was right back in 2020 Guntersville with the all the craziness of Tyson Cade, the local meth king, being shot at Alder Springs. You start the book with Rich on a bender... he is an alcoholic who apparently has fallen off the wagon, again. It looks like Rich is the perfect suspect, Cade told a witness that Rich finally got him, Jason has no idea if he did it since he was drunk and had been driving near the scene of the murder but he knows better than to say that to the new sheriff, Hatty Daniels as she walks up to him at his home on the gorgeous Guntersville Lake. Not only is Jason unsure of his actions he can't defend himself because he is suspended as a lawyer right now and he just threw his newly purchased gun into the lake. He can't seem to catch a break.

This book is full of wonderful characters that we have all grown to love and honestly could be real people in Marshall County, Alabama. The places that the characters visit, eat and the churches they attend are beloved by the community and Bailey gives them the rightful justice in his book. I love how my favorite eateries are where are characters go to eat Crawmama's for the crawfish and cold beer, Giovannis has the best pizza, Charburger is known for their wildcat burgers & fries, Jamoka's coffee is a locals favorite and Homecoming Cafe' doesn't know how to make anything that isn't locally sourced and delicious and each establishment helped this story come to life. I love how Bailey brings in surrounding areas like Albertville, Boaz and Grant to this story as well as the history of Scottsboro in Jackson County.

Robert Bailey loves to leave us all kinds of Easter Eggs from his other books which makes me smile and wish I could read these books for the first time again. The reference to McMurtrie law book, Bocephus Haynes, the former sheriff Richard Griffith reappears and having Hatty become the Sheriff, Then there is Trudy who is still waiting tables at Top of the River and trying to get her no good son straight. I love the setting of Guntersville and can say that it is a perfect location for this series. Driving across the River Bridge I often wonder when I will see the Tonidandel brothers keeping watch and helping Jason stay safe.

The pace of this story was fun to read and I kept wondering when we would find out who the killer really was in this needed murder. I loved how characters were introduced and reintroduced from the series and how Tyson Cade had ruined many of their lives and now they have a new bad guy, Matty Dean, in charge who really isn't cut out to be the leader, he may have bit off more than he can chew. Tyson at least took care of his people even when he was using them to move product and make money. I also love how Marshall County not only has it's first female Sheriff but she is an African American as well as the first LGTBQ Sheriff, but she isn't out of the closet yet. As someone who lives in Guntersville, this is a realistic barrier that someone would have to go against in our area, sadly. We do have a female Mayor in Guntersville. Of course in the book we learn of crooked politics and how the good ole boy system is in play. Rich's dad was a respected lawyer in Guntersville and Jason carries some shame with him from his get Rich way of doing business even though he has single handedly won two big murder cases in Guntersville.

I absolutely recommend this series if you haven't already start with Rich Blood & Rich Waters then jump in to Rich Justice. Robert Bailey has a way with words that fit the setting and makes you crave a cheeseburger and fries from Charburger and a bucket of crawfish from Crawamma's and an ice cold beer. Make sure you gas up your boat and grab your suntan lotion before hitting the lake to read this action packed book full of the great characters, in a beautiful setting and wonderful twisty plot and make sure you jump off Goat Island to feel that surge of excitement as you get to solve this mystery and get really deep in the muck with all our characters we love and especially the ones we love to hate.

Find your next adventure in black and white while reading your next book. I can't wait to purchase my copy of this book to add to my collection!!

Thanks to NetGalley, the Publisher and the Author for the ARC.

Spot quiz- Do you know any fictional lawyer who advertizes himself on billboards? Answer- Michael Connelly's Mickey Haller. Right and there is Jason Rich as well. However, I like Haller way way better. Rich has already lost everything and has become insufferable with his alcoholism and survivor's guilt. (happened in the first 2 books, I haven't yet read)
This book failed to hold my attention, even though there were very short alternate chapters from the protagonist's and villain's POV. The villain, Matty Dean was so boring that I just wanted to skip the pages and move to Rich's POV. At around 50%, even Rich got boring. The court room scene in the end was the only interesting part. The references to 80's music and TV shows got over my head.

I recently read 'Everyone on this train is a suspect' by Benjamin Stevenson. In that he mentions some pointers on how to write crime fiction. This book uses all the tropes, which B. Stevenson asks to avoid. Like over usage of italics. It is really annoying. It just draws attention to the wrong places.
B Stevenson also mentions how to write sequels; give enough tantalizing references to the previous books that readers will want to buy that one also, but not to spoil the ending. In this book, we don't feel lost about who's who, but it doesn't make it intersesting enough to make you go back and read the other books.

This book has a high average rating. And those who follow this series might like it. I did like the writing, so am planning to read the other series by Robert Bailey, McMurtrie and Drake.

5.0 stars. Robert Bailey does it again! Excellent gripping drama. I was fully invested from the get-go. The long wait for this book was worth it. Charismatic Jason Rich stands accused of killing the local drug lord. Jason's his own worst enemy and fighting his demons. He needs to get his act together to face the fight of his life. The newest meth king starts an all-out war, and Jason is number one on his list. Thankfully, Jason's got my favorite characters at his back, "The by God Tonidandel Brothers". Love those guys! Where they go action surely follows.

My adrenaline was amped up with every page I turned, afraid of what would happen and who it would happen to. This story is not without emotions, at times heartbreaking. Great cast of characters and a shocking ending.

I absolutely LOVE this series. Robert Bailey is one of my favorite authors for legal thrillers. I hope this is not the last we'll see of Jason Rich. But whatever the author has in store for his next book, count me in.

I’ve enjoyed the first two books in this series and I enjoyed this one as well but if I had one complaint it is that I don’t think it needed to be 515 pages. I like the characters in the story, but it is a violent one. It deals with drug dealers, murder, and alcoholism so there could be triggers for certain readers. I enjoyed it, but in the last hundred pages I was ready for it to be done because I was worn out by it. at this time, I don’t know if there will be a fourth book in this series, but if there is to be one, I will definitely read it. It’s a really good legal thriller/drama.

Explosive. Wow. I can’t ever seem to finish most of Robert Bailey’s books in one sitting because I need to process the feelings need a lot of time to process. I’m too invested in the characters and the story, that oftentimes I get avoid finding out how it ends, until I muster up the courage. Such a great story, though!

Will The Third Time in Criminal Court Be The Charm

This novel opens with the last chapter of the previous novel but with more detail. Tyson Cade, the meth king of San Mountain, stops by the Alder Sprints Grocery for his usual mid-morning delight with the cashier, Dooby. There is a customer at the pumps, so she refuses. Cade tells her tonight. He buys his usual Twinkie and Sun Drop soda. He leaves a $20 bill and walks out. When he almost reaches his car, Dooby yells that he forgot his change. He turns around, and his chest explodes from the bullets hitting him. He falls onto his back and dies. Tyson Cade blackmailed Jason Rich since he returned to Guntersville. Jason Rich’s vehicle is caught on a surveillance camera nearby 10 minutes after the shooting. From this start, Jason Rich heads for his third criminal trial since returning to Guntersville, but this time as the defendant.

This novel is very complex and has many different moving parts. I did not find this novel confusing or hard to follow. The main storyline consists of five threads. The first is the actions of the defense, primarily narrated by Jason Rich and the recently defeated district attorney, Shay Langford. The second is the action of the prosecution narrated by the newly elected DA Wish French and the newly elected Sheriff Hatty Daniels. The third string consists of the Sand Mountain criminal elements, primarily narrated by Matty Dean, who took over the meth activity after the death of Tyson Cade. The last thread provides the actions of the recently defeated Sheriff, who wants revenge against Matty Dean. Plot twists, turns, and red herrings kept me involved with this novel. A major literary tsunami significantly changed my understanding of the events in this novel. My interest was captured quickly and kept to the end.

The background of the Jason Rich character is quite rich. His thoughts on his situation and how he arrived at this point provide much insight into his character. Another source is when he explains himself to Satch Tonidandel and, especially, to Shay Langford, whom he must convince to switch to the dark side of being a defense attorney. More background of Satch Tonidandel is provided, which makes him a more developed character. This aspect of the novel greatly enhanced my reading enjoyment.

Elements that can cause some readers to stop reading are present in this novel. There are no intimate scenes, but there is a reference to one character committing a crime against a woman. There is a noticeable level of vulgar and rude language, but not to a level that caused me any concern and was context-appropriate. The violence is portrayed more edgy as it occurs and is not more than what can be seen in primetime police procedurals. This is the third novel in the series. It starts soon after the last novel ends. Much has happened in the previous two novels in this series. For me, the background for each reference was provided, so it should be adequate for a first-time reader of this series. If you are considering reading this novel before the other two, I suggest reading them first. As it was for me, I believe this will enhance your enjoyment of reading this novel.

There weren’t any aspects of this novel that I did not like. The beginning throws the reader into the deep end, with many narrators and multiple threads. I feel that may discourage some readers. This aspect also is what I liked the most about this novel. Having read the first two novels, I knew the characters, so I did not find the start confusing. It was like just a continuation of the second novel. This novel did keep me up late into the night as I could not stop reading. Many loose ends were closed by this novel. Some of these were throughout the whole series.

I have read the five books in this series and a previous series. Only three were obtained from NetGalley. I’ve also purchased three earlier novels that are on my to-be-read list. I bought these novels because this author is on my Must-Read list. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel. I recommend reading this novel with the caveat I provided earlier. I rate this novel with five stars.

I received this novel's free prepublication e-book version through NetGalley from Thomas & Mercer. My review is based solely on my own reading experience of this book. Thank you, Thomas & Mercer, for the opportunity to read and review this novel early.

4-4.5

I always love a good legal thriller and Robert Bailey sure delivered! Lawyer, Jason Rich, is charged with murder (that he’s pretty sure he didn’t commit) and he needs to clear his name, before he gets sentenced to life in prison. Who could have been involved in the murder and how far will a drug cartel go to avenge the death of their leader?

This is a book full of interesting characters and a complex storyline. I didn’t read the two previous books in this series and was fine reading it as a stand alone.

The narrator of this audiobook was great and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to
The entire book in one day!

A big thank you to the author, NetGalley, and Brilliance Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Read his full review on Rosepoint Publishing.

The control of the small Alabama town rests on a former US Army Colonel named Chuck Tonidandel. Everything in the town and immediate environs is controlled by Chuck and his three sons.

The local gendarme pointed out that Jason, who was raised by the Colonel, was responsible for the killings in the area. He lost his law license due to malfeasance and is in limbo waiting out a two-year suspension of said license.

This book is well written except that it has too many murders. Anyone who seemed to cross the Colonel or Jason Dean wound up dead. I enjoyed the book but found the number of killings over the top. Read to see if you agree. 4 stars – CE Williams

Read this book only because I’m not a quitter. Absolutely loved The Professor and the three books which followed in that series, plus the two book series on Bocephus were great, one reason is Bocephus is such a lovable, smart character. I think I’ve just had enough of these awful bad guys in Robert Bailey’s books, and then you top it off with an alcoholic lawyer that doesn’t learn his lesson over and, it got old. One thing that really stood out in Rich Justice is the names? Harry, Hattie, Matty. Read too fast and all of a sudden you have to go back because you know you’ve read something wrong.

When I read and reviewed Rich Waters by Robert Bailey, I wrote “I’m a fan of legal thrillers: think Scott Turow, John Grisham, Michael Connelly, William Landay. Somehow, I stumbled on Rich Bood by Robert Bailey. The protagonist, Jason Rich, is famous for his billboards from Alabama to Florida, featuring the slogan “In an accident? Get Rich!” Yes, he is THAT kind of lawyer, an “ambulance chaser,” and he’s made a freaking fortune at it… I look forward to the next one in this series! “

Now comes the third book in the series: Rich Justice, and I was lucky to receive a copy from Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. In this one, Jason’s nemesis Tyson Cade (aka the meth king) is shot and killed and Jason ends up charged with the murder. His problem is he doesn’t remember whether he did it or not, so he decides it might be a good idea to throw his Glock into the lake by his house. To try to dodge the death penalty, he enlists a fellow attorney who is nearly as disgraced as Jason himself. Together, they work to investigate the crime and figure out who did it (if it wasn’t Jason!)

Lots of less-than-likeable characters, and it does require some willing suspension of disbelief, but it has a complex, twisty plot and a fast pace that makes for an enjoyable read. I really enjoy this series when I am in the mood for good escapist fiction! Four stars.

Actually he has several problems and its going to get worse. Jason is an attorney, well he WAS one before he was suspended from the bar. It seems Jason likes other bars, the ones that sell liquid happiness. Yes Mr. Rich is an alcoholic but that's going to take a backseat to his newest problem.... he's being accused of murder. He has no remembrance of killing anyone, but he was drunk at the time of the killing and a stop light camera nails him to the area only minutes after the shooting. And..yes..he owns a gun.

Things are looking bleak so the question is ..why is he representing himself in court? There is a saying ....if he does this he has a fool for a client.

An awesome story with twists and turns right up to the very end. Its all action and reaction without any stops that detract from the telling of this deep and dangerous journey of one man trying to get back ...what he once had. Don't miss this one!

This book is the third and best book in the Jason Rich series so far! This book has so many surprises in it. When notorious drug dealer Tyson Cade is shot and killed, Jason gets charged with his murder. Jason asks for help from his old adversary, Shea Lankford.
They both have had their reputations ruined and have almost nothing left to lose but their lives, which almost happens. I love Robert Bailey's books. He lives in an area close to me and uses lots of city and street references I'm familiar with. That helps me visualize the events he describes in his books. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC of this great book! I highly recommend it.
