Aline, Countess of Myddelton is a very proper widow whose friends feel she has mourned her husband long enough. Their surprise birthday gift of a secret lover backfires, for the man who appears to seduce the propriety out of her is her husband’s much younger and very tempting heir. But Richard, long in love with her, cannot stop with just one touch, or one kiss, and he vows to make Aline his by means fair or foul.
Evangeline Holland was raised on both coasts and straight down the middle of America, where the cobblestone streets of Old Town Alexandria, the wild prairies and outlaws of Kansas, and the rolling hills of San Francisco inspired her thirst for history. Luckily, Evangeline was able to grow up and continue to slake this passion with the best job in the world: writing historical fiction. She lives in Northern California with incredibly possessive and territorial cat, a perpetually disastrous kitchen, and a house full of books.
Richard is the new Earl of Myddelton and he arrives in London on Aline, Countess of Myddelton's birthday. It was been two years since the last Earl of Myddelton died. Aline is now out of mourning so Richard arrives at a time that she can contemplate a new marriage or lover. I think that lovers were a good option for rich widows because that way they don't lose their financial freedom. Richard is more then happy to become her lover (although there is a bit of deception in his initial seduction), he is ready for a more serious attachment. Cute short story set in Historical London society, there are sexy scenes but this is not erotica. 70 pages and free from All Romance site 2 stars
Richard the heir of Lady Myddleton's late husband has always had a crush on her and when her friends decide to give her a birthday gift which backfires. I know she was seeking a lover and I would have probably felt the same way if the lover that was picked was the heir of my ex husband. I did not feel that this book was sexy and it really was quite boring and no where near what I thought it would be. This book was not horrible but it was only okay!
This was a cute romance. Lady Myddleton is a saucy widow looking for a lover. When she discovers her lover is actually her late husband's heir instead, she is mortified. But even she cannot deny her attraction to Richard.
Lucky it was a novella. I got it as a freebie and was good enough to entertain myself while sick in bed. Didn't disappoint as I didn't have any expectations for it.
