This was a VERY long book. It is probably the most in-depth history on the life of St. Francis that I have ever seen or read. This was more of an encyclopedia of the saint's life, rather than a novel.
To give the average reader an idea of its length, it takes about an hour to read just 7-8% of the book on Kindle. The language is descriptive and lengthy in nature, meaning that one has to be stubborn enough to get through the book.
It has taken a VERY LONG time to get through this and , honestly, I probably do not remember 90% of it. However, I have a much deeper appreciation for St. Francis because of this book and have gained further insight into his nature and character.
Maybe for some it would be a beneficial read, but I found it too long, and it seemed embellished. I'd rather read a theological text from which I might gain some knowledge.
