Half blood vampire princess, Sophia Daletsky, has spent the last eight months running from her oppressive and cruel Brother and her love sick ex, when she comes upon the sleepy little town of Maldera Springs where she finds a secret that’s been hidden for years from her people. Sophia must decide between saving herself, listening to her heart, or protecting what’s been safely hidden and protected by the sexy, secretive, and stoic vampire brothers Tavian and Dante Baikov
I kind of like to think of myself as a normal lady living a semi normal life. I’m not sure that’s all that accurate; I have a sweet husband and two dogs-my girls- that I think of as my children. I grew up in Sonoma County, California and I never pictured myself moving. Funny because now I live in North Idaho and I love it here, I love the summers; camping, bar-b-ques with friends, and the farmers markets. I find the winter magical and love the snow. I started writing as a hobby. I’ve been one of those people who has been obsessed with the world of the paranormal for as long as I can remember. I self published my first book in August of 2011 at my husbands’ urging.
Sophia’s story was truly meant for me at the beginning. Now I love that I chose to share these characters with everyone who’s chosen to read about them. I love these characters. They hold a special part of me and represent the strength and knowledge that comes with never giving up. of course I’m biased.
As for me personally, I’m not one who ever really shared much of my own story, however not long ago I finally shared my story with the fans who followed my Facebook page Magen McMinimy Author Page so I figure my story is out there for the world to read so I might as well share it here . . .
Like I said I grew up in California, I was born in Santa Rosa, Ca on April 19th 1983, I had a simple and pretty good childhood with a rather great family. I have wonderful parents and a pretty great sister( I didn’t always think so as I was growing up, but now I know the simple pleasures of having a sister as my best friend, she also gave me my nephew Asher who I adore). When I was nine I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis, I was fortunate enough that it didn’t affect any of my major organs, but on the flip side of that it was in my eyes.
When I was around the age of twelve, I was given the diagnosis of secondary glaucoma. At thirteen I had my first in a fairly long line of surgeries to help control the pressures and remove the cataracts in my eyes.
When I turned twenty-one I took the first step of a major life change and moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. I left a lot of amazing friends and an amazing extended family. I met my now husband a few months after the move and was married to him in June of 2006. In 2008 I finished college and became a wedding planner. I love a good party and I live to decorate and make things beautiful and amazing for those around me.
In April of 2010 I woke up one morning with no vision in my right eye, I got an appointment with a specialist and found out I had blood vessels growing in the back of my eye that led to nowhere and were steadily bleeding. I underwent treatments and we got the bleeding under control and eventually stopped completely. But not before some major damage had been done. My doctor got me on the road to getting some help and I work each day with a small amount of remaining vision in my left eye.
So why do I tell you all of this? I tell you all because this is who I am, and those of you taking the time to read this have probably read at least one of my books and because of that you’ve helped to make this dream of writing and reaching out to others who love books, and vampires, and shifters and all things gorgeous and sexy . . . come true!
Life is a constant balance of what we want and what we need. It's also a lot like a Battle. A battle that we all have to fight in our own way. I chose to try and love and cherish every minute that I get to chase my crazy dreams and create a world and characters to get lost in.
If you are a regular reader of my reviews, you know the world of vampires and other paranormal beings are newer to me. I started this book at my kid’s soccer practice, but I'm one of those parents that like to yell. So I read instead of yelling, I am sure my husband and kids enjoyed that. A combined four hours later I am emailing Ms. Magen telling her I want MORE! (Woot woot! I got more!)
At first, I didn't know if I was going to like this book or not. The beginning of this book, I thought, was a smidgen slow BUT after reading the whole book, it actually isn't. She was laying out the details, the foundation for the whole story. The descriptions of the characters and the houses are just amazing. They come to life as you are reading about them.
The story starts out with Sophia spying on Sarah, Rachel, Tavian and Dante. She knows all about Sarah and the Baikov brothers. She has made it her personal mission to protect Sarah. Sarah has no idea who she is, but Sophia has found out that Sarah knows that Dante and Tavian are actually vampires.
Sophia's brother Irad, wants Sarah dead because she is the descendent of Abel's family. Yes, the Abel out of the Bible. Sophia's father is actually Cain, the first vampire. Sophia is the Half Blood Princess because her mother was a human. The Cain and Abel story and the descriptive writing is what really drew me into the book. I studied Christianity in college. It's a very beautiful religion, but there is a lot of unknowns. I love this what if? It took me out of my today life and put me in a place that was surreal and I LOVED it!
Especially after reading about Dante and Tavian, I was like where can I find these yumminess on a stick so I can... Oh nevermind. :) Yes, they are that smoking hot. So eventually it comes out that Sophia isn't completely honest with who she is... I was hoping they wouldn't have to find out like that did but there was no other choice... And Kara. Oh she is a vampire bitch for sure and the ending, OMG, the ending... COMPLETE CLIFF HANGER! BUT! Don't be hating on the book just because of that. The rest of the series is out.
5 out of 5 stars. I think if the next book wasn't out, I'd spaz the heck out. I'm itching to read the next one. (Soon I hope!) The characters are yummy and it's a unique twist on the history of vampires. That alone is just awesome! So go grab this series!!!
*I was given this book in exchange for my honesty opinion. These are my thoughts and words.
c2011: Surely, the basic rules of spelling and grammar are key for any aspiring author. In this book, all such rules are shattered - and not in a good way either. I think there is a good story somewhere in the background but as there is some sort of error in nearly every paragraph - it is just impossible to read. In its present format, there is no way that I could recommend this book. (Please ignore any grammatical errors in my above comments - ha ha ha ha!)
“My mom passed away years ago, being surrounded by things she loved is always bittersweet for me. Much like your mom loved the Wizard of Oz, mine loved the flower expo. She used to be in charge of all of this. It was hard for me the first couple of years, but now I love coming here, it reminds me to remember her.”
“No, she is better than any vampire and she carries the pure blood of Cain. I gave her my blood as well. And once this blood claim is completed, she will be stronger and, as always, wiser than all of us.”
What an explosive start to this series! Sophia is a vampire princess who can't take her crazy brother anymore! She's trying to find and protect the last person with the blood of Abel. Over something that happened before he was ever born. So she goes in search of the "Ancestor" and finds her Sarah is something she didn't expect. She is in love with a vampire Dante. He and his brother Tavian are something she never expected. Especially Tavian, Sophia is fast falling for him. Will she be able to protect the "Ancestor" and maybe fall in love? Will her brother ruin everything? OMG you gotta read to find out! I was quickly sucked into this yummy book! The story line is something I could see continuing for many more books! The characters are wonderful! There wasn't a slow spot in this book. I am dying to see what happens next!!
I was given this book by author in exchange for honest review
Blood Claim : Vampire Half-Blood Princess Rating 5***** This book was provided from the author in exchange for honest literary review. Sophia is on a quest. She has decided to end centuries worth of feuding. If she can successfully protect Sarah, then maybe she can rectify a fued that has consumed her family. However, this mission may very well cost her everything, including her heart. Being the only half human half vampire in existence life was never easy for Sophia. Once she met up with Sarah she found so much more than she ever bargained for. She found herself, a friend, and most of all love in The form of Dante. Now she may lose it all. I love this take on vampires. I am not going to give too much of this story away, but it is very original. Not to mention it Jas the perfect blend of action, romance and drama. The characters are very well detailed. I felt as if Sophia was one of my best friends. The plot flows well without being overwhelming. Easy to read as well, I finished this book in one sitting. I noticed that there were previous comments about the editing, I have to say that the editing is superb now. I don't have a single complaint in that department. Overall a very good and interesting story that makes for an interesting series start Michelle McQueen WaAR
Blood Claim from the very beginning intrigued me. Though fairly short it was a great read and left me wanting. I am giving the book 4.5 stars. The reason it isn’t receiving five stars is that it ended a little too abruptly. Yes, I love a cliffhanger and I am not too upset since I have the following books, but if I had bought this when it released, before the others came out I would have been a little disappointed to have to wait and find out. So really that isn’t a bad thing. It just goes to show how good the first book was and that waiting wouldn’t have been pleasant.
Other than that the book was wonderful, and had its own uniqueness. I find that with the vampire/werewolf fad the stuff can sometimes be overdone, BUT Magen brought a unique perspective on the vampire race which I found quite exciting. The difference she brought let me, as a reader, know that she was able to use her own imagination and write a fantastic beginning to a series.
The book is 154 pages in print and held a lot of story. I felt she introduced the main characters very well. I loved Sophia and Dante. They all felt real and that is a good thing. Though, they become an official couple without officially announcing it to the reader I found their relationship sweet.
The setting was very detailed. Dante’s home felt more real because the description. In the beginning when Sophia is scoping out the place I felt like I was there taking in all the scenery. I also am impressed with Magen’s ability to write in first person. There were times when I felt like I was Sophia, which in itself is no small feat, believe me writing in first person POV isn’t an easy task (for me anyways) and she did it beautifully.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good vampire romance with a little twist. I do however think if you want to read this series, you get them all at once. That way you can just finish one and slip right into the next. Because you will not want to put it down and wait to see what comes next.
Sophia Daletsky has for the last eight months been on the run from her past. She was sick of her half-brother trying to control her, her (now ex)boyfriend, wanting to mold her into something she wasn’t, and when she finally starts listening and stand on her own two feet, that’s a problem as well.
Sophia has been moving from place to place, never staying too long, because she KNOWS her brother is hot on her heels, wanting her back. While looking for somewhere safe to stay, she runs straight into the arms of the very charming brothers Tavian and Dante Baikov and the secret they’re guarding. Now, what’s a girl to do? Protecting herself from her family, falling for Dante (despite she never wanted to fall in love again) and protecting the biggest secret still alive. The choice gets harder when ancient friends appear from nowhere….
I read Blood Claim in one sitting. That is actually rare for me since most of my days is filled with so much more than just books (gasps – yes, I did say that!). Blood Claim is a shorter read, but I still couldn’t put it down. I even stayed up at my daughter room, AFTER she fell asleep, just to read the rest.
I really enjoyed getting to know Sophia, Dante, Tavian and Sarah. Then there are other side characters that sort of comes jumping in; Enoch, one of Sophia’s half-brothers, Sage, an old friend of Sophia, Adelaide,a witch/voodoo Queen, just to mention a few.
For me Blood Claim was an appetizer to what will come, somehow I think I have only scraped the surface of what there will come in the rest of the books. But Blood-claim gave me exactly what I wanted; a bit of the back story (which was intriguing), learning what made the main character “tick”, conflict between them, interesting side characters (I hope to see more of them in the next books),and generally a story that caught my attention, plain and simple. Can’t wait to read the sequel; Resurrection Stone.
This is a review of the re-edited version of the book.
I found this book to be an intriguing version of the vampire and slayer history.
This is the first book in the Half-Blood Princess series and I think you will find yourself wanting to read the rest. while I did find that the heroine flipped through her thoughts from past to present rather quickly making it seem chaotic, it soon smooths out as the plot develops.
I was impressed to find that while their was plenty of romance in the air, the relationship between Sophia and her love interest progresses at a believable rate. And when it did start to get steamy, the sex scene was tasteful and did not over run the story.
While Sophia's background may have been dark, she was not a whinny heroine. She was an easy character to relate to as she set out to accomplish her plan of protecting her friends. While she was confident that she could take care of herself she didn't over play that part of her personality, she certainly received bumps and bruises along the way.
I am looking forward to reading more of the series to see how Sophia deals with the repercussions of her actions.
This story is an interesting take on the origin of vampires. I liked the premise, but the novella itself was tough for me to read. To start, it was written in the first person narrative. For some reason, it's a hard point of view for me to read. At times, I felt like I was reading entries in a day planner. It seemed like a constant run-down of who went where, drank what, etc. I just didn't connect with any of the lead characters. My other observation was that the writing seemed to be stuck for awhile. Very simple, repetitive sentence structure. Still, it wasn't the worst story I'd ever read & I stuck with it because, again...the premise for the story seemed like it had real potential. I'm glad I did because the last couple of chapters were so much better. A solid story line started to develop and I wanted, no NEEDED, to know what was going to happen! Review of the 2nd novella to come!
I was given a copy of this novella in exchange for an honest review.
I was contacted by the author to read and review this book. I hadn't heard of it but the description sounded interesting. I loved the characters that she had and the description of everything was really good. The pace of it bounced around a lot but that wasn't bad. It was like life really, it would be calm one minute then action and excitement then back to calm and so on. If you are looking for realistic then well this is not for you I mean sexy vampire brothers are a nice fantasy but you can't expect it to be to realistic. If you want a nice break from reality then this is for you. Over all it was good and I found out that there is a series of like 7 books. So I will be buying those because it did leave you with a big cliffhanger and I want to find out what happens and that tells you that it must be go if you want to find out what will happen next.
I received this book as an ARC from the author. (I have since purchased it) This is a different take on a vampire book. I do enjoy paranormal stories, especially ones with a strong female lead character, which is what we have here. Sophia is the kind of woman that many of us try not to be, but have to become to keep our lives going in the direction we want. Sophia is trying to protect an innocent, something many women can relate to. She finds a beautiful man and wants to spend time with him. The story ends in a cliffhanger, and I refuse to give anything away. If you like vampire stories, give this one a try. It is a quick, but enjoyable read! {babusbookshelf.blogspot.com}
I was given this book by the author in return for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this story. It was fast paced and draws you right in from the very start! I loved Sophie and think she is a wonderful character. I felt compelled to read the whole book in one sitting as I just couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read the second book "Resurrection stone" as would love to find out what happens next for all the character's but especially Sophie and Dante!
really liked this book I struggled at first but in the end I loved it...loved the whole little town only wish it was longer...can't wait for more and to see where this story goes. I'm very intrigued at the claim on the town and how this will play out..our blog was asked to read this for an honest review and I'd defiantly recommended this to my fangbanger friends. can't wait for more Dante :)
I read this book on a ride back from vacation. I started reading and when I looked up to finish my book, it has turned from light to dusk. This is an amazing book. I highly recommend this book to anyone that love supernatural or romantic stories. The best thing was the romance was slow not rushed.
Synopsis: Half blood vampire princess, Sophia Daletsky, has spent the last eight months running from her oppressive and cruel Brother and her love sick ex, when she comes upon the sleepy little town of Maldera Springs where she finds a secret that’s been hidden for years from her people. Sophia must decide between saving herself, listening to her heart, or protecting what’s been safely hidden and protected by the sexy, secretive, and stoic vampire brothers Tavian and Dante Baikov Meg's Review: This book was a breath of fresh air for its genre. I am a BIG vampire fan. Like Ultimate fan. There are two kinds in this area when it comes to books. Great, and predictable. This one kept me on my toes and interested through the entire thing. Its was on the great end of the spectrum. I Loved Sophia. She was a really enjoyable character and right from the start I wanted to know her story. I wanted to know what had brought her to this book. This place. These people. A Blood Claim. Why?
What is it?
How will she do it?
Why now?
This is what I was hunting for.
Slowly but surely this story unfolds for us. Tavian and Dante. Gosh I really enjoyed them. Sophia definitely has her secrets in that respect. Her brothers though, that situation also had me on edge. The story flew by, but in a good way. It flew by because I couldn't put it down. It took a chapter or so to get going, but once it did it didn't stop.
The Ending. Oh My. Jaw dropping. I am SO glad I got a peek at the end as to what happens because my heart stopped beating.
Read it. Its original and interesting. Leaves you wanting more with every chapter.
Sophia, a half-blood vampire princess, stumbles upon the southern town of Maldera Springs while on the run from her sadistic brother and jilted ex. Consequently, Sophia discovers a young woman who unknowingly is being hunted by a band of vampires. Sophia decides she will protect the woman and also meets vampire brothers Taivan and Dante. With new friends Sophia adjusts to her new town quickly but time is running out and she is sure her brother will find her which puts everyone in danger. Will the princess save the damsel or is everyone doomed?
From page one I absolutely loved Sophia; she was sweet, a fierce fighter, and all around lovable heroine. I also got the "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" vibe from her as well, meaning she finds herself in many messes and mishaps but always finds the strength to sort everything out. I didn't quite connect with the other characters but they were all interesting in their various roles throughout the story. Although...I am a sucker for the bad girl and I'd like to read more on villainous Kara in the future!
One thing I struggled with in this book was the middle of the story. Sophia and Dante are about my age (mid-twenties) yet they didn't act age appropriate at times. For example, one minute they are partying with just-graduated seniors and the next they are the "adults" in the situation. I just had a hard time with this section of the book because I found it unrealistic to my age group.
Whenever I read a paranormal book I look for that ONE thing that separates said book from other paranormal books and I was very happy to discover this author included her own piece of flair. Without giving too much away vampire history and origins are discussed and related to certain biblical figures-BOOM- sold me as a happy reader!
All in all I found this to be a quick and enjoyable read and would recommend to others in the mature young adult range and up.
Blood Claim is the first in Author Magen McMinimy’s Half-Blood Princess series, and tells the tale of Sophia Daletsky. Sophia is the daughter of a vampire and human, a half-blooded vampire. Her father is Cain, the original vampire, and her two brothers are some of the strongest of their kind. Unfortunately one of them, Irad, is on the hunt for Sophia after she disappeared eight months prior to the story.
In her attempt at hiding she finds herself in Maldera Springs, where she meets the Baikov brothers Dante and Tavian. They’re both vampires, and alongside them is a human named Sarah, who is very important to the vampire world. Sophia sets out to protect her, but ends up falling for one of the brothers; which only complicates things further.
I sincerely enjoyed this book, enthralled in Magen’s complicated world of vampires and their society. We only get a glimpse of it in this book, but I am definitely hooked. There is a whole new world in Magen McMinimy’s Half-Blood Princess series, and I am eager to delve further into it!
The only reason I give it anything other than five stars is because I felt it ended too quickly. There were a few time-skips I felt could have been utilized for more character development, but other than that the story and writing was magnificent and I highly recommend you pick this book up!
With the start of this series you meet Sophia and all you know is that she is on a mission to protect Sara. But you don’t know what for. And you are unsure of what exactly Sophia is, which I think is a great way to start the series out, it leaves you wanting answers for your questions.
While Sophia is still a mystery during the beginning of this novella, you are introduced to Sara, Travian, and Dante. And we watch the beginning of their friendship as they get to know each other. My only complain about this part is that for a while there it seemed like Sara had faded into the background. There was more focus on Sophia and Dante’s relationship than what the deal was about Sara. By the end of this part though, we were able to find out what exactly was so special about Sara.
There were twists and turns in this novella that kept you on your toes, but also leads you to want to read more into the series. Which of course I did.
Sophia Daletsky is unique she's the half blood princess and she's running from her brother Irad and her ex Ash, but she's not just running she's looking for something and she finds it in the sleepy little town of Maldera Springs but now she has to keep it and herself safe and preferably hidden. There was a lot about this book I really liked, Sophia for a start her abilities and history, plus obviously Dante and Tavian, Sarah and Enoch and the story for the most part I loved the idea what I didn't like was Sophia lying to Dante, Tavian and Sarah, no good can come from it, initially yes, but surely after awhile and with the way things were going I mean everything was going to come out in the end so all delaying does is open the door for further trouble. Also I had trouble picturing Sophia as twenty-five, I know she's drinking but she seemed younger to me but maybe it's just me who's getting old, they say everyone looks young when you're old.
Please note I read books 5-7 before starting this book. I'd say a 4.5 star review
As I started reading this book I was intrigued by the way we learned about each individual character and the detail we were given. I instantly fell in love with Sophia and enjoyed the pop in the love scenes. I got so into the story that I was very upset when it just ended. I do not think that it ended well and I was glad that I had the other books to continue the story. There was plenty of action and love intermixed to make a wonderfully intriguing story. I would recommend this book but only if you have the first 4 books with it because in my opinion it didn't really end it just paused. I am glad to see that it was edited however there are still errors that are occasionally distracting.
Great read that I could not put down. I have been reading nothing but Magen's books this weekend and I'm so mad at myself for not reading them sooner. I was burnt out on the same old vampire stories over and over again, this was a breath of fresh air for the genre.
Sophia is not your normal vampire. She is the half blood princess, that most people don't think really exists. She is on the run from her brother and ex, while trying to save "the ancestor" from one of her brothers. I loved most of the characters, Irad and Kara, mostly. But every story needs someone to hate. I can't wait to read the other books in this series. Magen is becoming one of my new favorite authors, that I will buy anything she writes. I'm hooked!!
I do not know how this book gets so many good reviews. It doesn't really have even a new plot concept. As the whole Cain as the first vampire has been done before, and better. As has the whole main character being the only vampire born not made, its been done better too!
I found this book on amazon by looking in the adult section under fantasy so I expected this to be an adult novel, but its not really. The main character is well into her 20's only she's hanging out with teens, and acting like a teen. There isn't any hot romance in this, its all sweet and innocent. I was not expecting this book to be in a teen writing style, I was expecting a kick as paranormal with an interesting plot, it doesn't really have that though. I won't be reading any more in the series.
If you don't like vampire books where the vampires don't follow classic rules like no going out in sunlight, then do not read this book. However, you will be missing out on a great story that will make you forget that the vampires don't follow the rules that you're used to. The story of Sophia Daletsky, the half human and half vampire daughter of the first ever vampire is engaging, intriguing, and original. I look forward to the next book in the series to see just how she handles her blood claim.
McMinimy's Blood Claim is a fun, sexy start to her Half Blood Princess series!
There was just enough story to sense a strong, beginning, and end, but it also acted as a strong set up for what is sure to be a fun series. Though the book is short, there's enough character development for you to develop an attachment (or at least understanding) of the characters. She weaves in some biblical and historical mythologies, giving her vampires and slayers a greater meaning and purpose.
This book is filled with Paranormal happenings that will intrigue you and leave you wanting more. Sophia is not who people think she is and things are not as they seem. Will her journey take her on the mission of a lifetime or will she fail protecting the one she hopes to save? This book crosses the family divide and makes you wonder if family is worth fighting for or against? The author is an amazing writer and will keep you guessing throughout the book. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!!! A MUST READ!!
If the "professional editing" was paid for, the author was robbed. Not only was it chock full of grocer's apostrophes, the last author I recall getting "ancestor" quite so obviously confused with "descendant" was J. K. Rowling and the fallout from correcting that should have been enough to eradicate that error forever ;-)
I'm not sure whether I can be bothered to pay for the sequels.
I loved the whole premise of this book. I think she went about the vampire mythology in a very unique way. I really liked the characters, and I honestly didn’t see one of the biggest twists to be what it was! The book is easy to get sucked into I read it in just a few hours. The only reason that I didn’t give it a five star is because the exposition was a little heavy and rushed. I cannot wait to dig into the next book and look forward to whatever Magen has in store.
The longer I read this book, the more I fell in love with it and its characters. At first, I wasn’t sure where it was going to go, but the author has an excellent way of slowly introducing the details and backstory, leaving me intrigued and wanting to know more. It was a quick read, but a great introduction to the story to come.
I received an e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I really liked this book although I struggled with it at first but in the end, I loved it! I loved the whole little town feel, I only wish it was longer. I can't wait for more and to see where this story goes. I'm very intrigued as to the claim on the town and how this will play out. Our blog was asked to read this for an honest review and I'd defiantly recommended this to my fang-banger friends. I can't wait for more Dante :)
