The final book of the Riley Jenson series! I am going to keep this review short so as not to spoil anything. Simply to say, this was a very enjoyable series. All lose ends come together for our heroine in this final case the Riley takes on. Her view on packs, family, the directorate and her own desires finally meet up in this conclusion.
Mini-synopsis: Riley is kidnapped by Blake while on a case, has her memory erased and must re-discover herself and those she knows before it is too late. All while somehow still working the case, as another victim is claimed where she is at and it strikes chord in her memory.
Honestly the addition case seemed to detract from this last book. I wish it had been simply the kidnapping and another way of regaining her memories. The added case plot took away from the tension that has been underlining Riley's very existence as she gets to face her past.
Otherwise I was alright with the book. My only other wish would have been for an epilogue following the last few sentences made. Set a few years into the future would have been nice. But alas, I was denied further details. Still satisfied however.
Be warned, to those of you who read this series for its more sensual scenes, this book is lacking in those compared to the other books. However, to me, this did not take away from the book or series. In fact, it heightened my respect for the author with how the focus was tying up loose ends.

How do you wrap up a series like this one? The publisher's blurb for this ninth and final installment, reprinted in full at the top of this Goodreads book page, is fairly accurate but I should warn you that it reveals two things that you may count as spoilers: (1) the ending of the previous book, Bound to Shadows, and (2) something drastic that doesn't happen till the 30% mark in this book but occupies most of the rest of the story after that:
A vicious enemy from her past is determined to strip Riley of everything that gives her life meaning: her lover, her brother--and even her own identity. Can Riley survive this ultimate assault? All she knows is that she must fight one last time to find answers, before everything goes dark forever.
Although it's in spoiler territory, I think I can safely reveal (outside of a spoiler tag) that the scene shifts abruptly and unexpectedly at that point from the Melbourne area to the Australian desert, Riley's problematic werewolf connections are involved, and what her enemy--a fiendish sadist--does to Riley to strip her of her identity, as the blurb promises, includes amnesia and suppression of her formidable powers. Enough said!

The change in tone of the entire novel was disconcerting to me. I had settled happily in to Riley's pursuit of a revenge killer who wears a demon costume to foil security cameras. Reluctantly, she's taken one last assignment in her job at the Directorate before she plucks up the courage to resign. We see more than usual of her boss Jack and her twin brother Rhoan, and that was a bonus for me, particularly Rhoan's committed relationship with Liander, whose sister agrees to be a surrogate carrying their unborn child (Liander's sperm, Riley's stored eggs).

There was a great deal of love among these characters, and I haven't even mentioned Quinn yet. It was very good to see Quinn, reliable and faithful as ever, slowly healing some of Riley's grief until their love becomes by far the stronger element in Riley's heart.

Riley as first-person narrator lets us enjoy her supernatural powers in vivid detail. Part vampire, part werewolf, she also shifts at will into a seagull form and has almost accidentally gained the power to speak with souls of the recently departed. That business of shifting to a seagull has some puzzling logistics:
...I got rid of my bra, which had--as usual--been shredded by the shift into seagull form.
The bra, mind you, but not the T-shirt, until she has to shift without a bra and then the T-shirt gets it. Werewolf that she is, she doesn't mind nudity of course. And later she tells us
Humans got surprised that things like phones could come through the change with us. To be honest, I really couldn't explain it myself. But the things we wore--on our bodies and in our pockets--were looked after by the magic, in much the same way as our clothes were. The things we carried--like handbags--weren't. Where it all actually went when we were in our alternate shapes I had no idea--and, really, I preferred not to know.
In several scenes Riley pops back from a shift fully clothed, no mention of shredding underneath!

Despite my unease with the middle part of this novel, I had a hard time putting it down once I got started in earnest. The action is exciting and doesn't really let up, and the final chapters are near perfect. The Riley Jenson series certainly ended well, and Riley and her loved ones will have roles to play in many more of Keri Arthur's Melbourne-based supernatural adventures.

I CANNOT wait for this to be released. It's going to be a winner. BOUND TO SHADOWS(book 8) was amazing. The last chapter had me in tears and begging for more. I cannot wait to see what happens next with Riley and everyone. I highly recommend this series!

Warning: Spoilers from previous books are unavoidable.

Since Riley Jenson is one of my favorite heroines ever and this concludes the series, I’m abandoning my normal review format to discuss Moon Sworn, but I will do my best to avoid spoilers. Moon Sworn picks up weeks after the death of Riley’s friend Kade and her soul mate Kye. While she survived his death, she is deeply depressed and battling the emptiness of his loss. Riley, Rhoan, Liander and Quinn are still awaiting the child Liander’s sister is carrying for them, which gives Riley the will to live. Shortly after saying good bye to Kade, Riley’s boss Jack calls in her help on a murder case. Because of the experimental drugs given to Riley in a previous book, she has developed the ability to speak with the souls of the recently deceased. The soul gives her enough information to figure out this murder was motivated by revenge. As with all the other cases Riley works, she quickly gets the details she needs and solves the case. However, Blake Jenson is still seeking revenge. Blake has developed an elaborate plot to make Riley suffer from memory loss and adjust to a new life before he kills her. Of course, Riley is not going down without a fight, even if she doesn’t know who she is. When she finds herself lost in a small town with a new identity, she somehow keeps being Riley…and being Riley means finding all trouble possible. Luckily another murder case pops up and has so many similarities to the vengeance murders she was investigating, her memory is jogged. Before Blake’s plan comes to an end, Riley must figure out who she really is and take care of the Jenson pack once and for all. That’s all I can really say without giving away the ending so I will move on.

My thoughts on Moon Sworn and Riley Jenson’s journey:
I am literally wincing as I type this, but I did not love this book. Over the past 8 books Riley Jenson has been through some serious stuff. SERIOUS stuff. She has been beaten (a lot), shot (even more), kidnapped, drugged, raped while drugged, genetically altered and forced to kill her own soul mate. So, as far as I’m concerned, being dumped in a small town with no memory was like child’s play for Riley. She also happens to have a crazy lethal twin brother and the most bad-ass vamp boyfriend on Earth who can tear a small town apart. And the case she was working didn’t even have layer upon layer of messed up Aussies to peel away. She solved it with only like 2 gun shot wounds and a dead hooker! So seriously? This was the send off she got? Sigh…I guess it depends on how you look at it. If you were sick of fate kicking the crap out of Riley, then maybe you were relieved that things finally got easy for her. But the reason I love Riley Jenson is how she always gets herself out of trouble on her own, without even relying on all the back-up she has available. She is one of the smartest, sexiest, most kick-ass heroines I have ever read, and I loved every minute of her journey up until this point. But this book felt almost formulaic to me. I was really hoping for something even more over the top than the multi-species fighting ring from Tempting Evil (which is my fav book in the series and has one of the most awesome climactic battles ever!), but maybe it was time for things to calm down for Riley. I am sure lots of people will love this final piece of Riley’s story. And I really did love the ending; it was nice to see Riley finally at peace with herself and her past. I think I was just ready to go on one more insane adventure with my favorite werewolf\vamp\seagull shifter and I don’t feel that I got it. But don’t let my semi-negative review take away from this series. I loved these books. They are so much fun. I will miss Quinn’s hotness, and Rhoan and Liander’s sweetness, and Jack and Sal being super annoying. I will miss Riley being that ridiculous seagull then shifting in midair to break someone’s jaw. I will miss (actually have been missing for a few books now) the horny wolfie full-moon sex clubs and Riley’s unapologetic promiscuity (why the hell couldn’t she hook up with Cole just once?!?). And finally I will miss getting to read all about Australia, which made these books unique for me. Okay, gushing is complete. It feels weird to actually have closure from one of these series though. Especially since book 8 left us with Riley on death’s door, its kind if nice to know everything is good now. So if I can give no other reason to read this series, read it because IT’S DONE.

Moon Sworn is the 9th and last installment in the Riley Jensen series by Keri Arthur. Keri Arthur is a one of a kind writer. She has many excellent series under her belt, and each as popular as the last. I'm a huge fan of all her books, especially this series. Riley Jensen is a kick-ass heroine. One I will miss...

Moon Sworn picks up a few months after the events from Bound to Shadows. And as much as I wanted to see Riley have her happy ending, (which is more than deserves), I didn't want this series to end.
Riley still suffers deeply from the events of the last book. She hurts, and she knows how lucky she should be to have everyone who loves her, like she does. But she can't help but feel pain. She's battling emptiness from her loss, and it's taking it's toll.

Blake Jensen is seeking revenge on Riley. Coming up with an elaborate plot to make Riley suffer from memory loss, while being dumped into a small town, where he plans on killing her. It's a lot to plan to kill someone, but I suppose it's hard to kill Riley. especially when she has a extremely bad-ass twin brother and Quinn, one of the most powerful, strong vampire boyfriends ever? I guess I'd go through these lengths if I was to kill her as well. But being the most smartest, kick-ass heroine I've ever read, taking her memory away, and dumping her into a small town, is another day at the park...

I can honestly say, this book has less of a punch than her last 8 adventures, but it's just a good, if not better. We get to learn fall in love with Riley and Quinn all over again. What's not to love? This book is a ride of emotions and an excellent finish to an amazing series. And although this is the last of Riley as a protagonist, it's not the end of her world. The spin-off series will center on Risa, and focus on the Aedh and demons. And we will see more Riley, Liander, Rhoan and Quinn! Probably not as much as we would like, but still, more Riley & the gang! I'm super excited to see what Ms. Arthur has in store for us!

I have mixed emotions about this edition in the Riley Jenson series. I was so afraid going in that we’d get an onslaught of emotions that were dragged out endlessly about Kades death in Bound to Shadows. His death was already hard for me the first time around and I didn’t want to keep reliving it over and over. I was pleased to see that the opposite was actually the case. While Riley does grieve for Kade in the beginning, Kye’s haunting last words to her become fulfilled. In the midst of another case for the Directorate of vengeance killings made by a horned demon, Riley gets abducted and wakes without memory to a new life. She can’t remember much, but familiar words linger and faintly she knows she’ll have just one week to recover who she was.

Moon Sworn is quite different from the last eight novels in this series. The whole novel had a different feel, and with the knowledge of this being the last edition to the series, made reading it all the more surreal. It’s a bitter sweet ending for me. I know all good things must come to an end, but that doesn’t mean I won’t mourn it’s passing. Because most of the novel is Riley without her memory, we’re denied proper good byes to all of the supporting characters. I desperately missed all of my favorites- Rhoane, Liander, Quinn, Jack, Sal and the rest of the gang. However, I will say that Ms. Arthur brought all of the long standing story arcs together very nicely and I’m left completely satisfied with how things turn out for Riley. I’m really going to miss Riley and Co. but I’m more happy about not seeing this dragged out to the point of irritation and boredom.

Just one review for the whole series, I'm lazy like that. I'd love to write reviews for each book but....

I really enjoyed this one, it was definitely an unexpected read.

Riley is awesome, and so are all the side-characters (you can't help but fall for most of them).
It's a fast-paced read, with an awesome plot and a pretty good world-builder (even if it's UF).

This series is that unexpected surprise, it happens when you're just looking for a nice story but end up with an awesome series that you're sad to see ending.

Goodbye Riley, I'll miss you, all of you!

All in all, definitely worth reading!

Twins! OMG! I am so happy for them! I wonder if it will be a boy and a girl like Riley and Rhoan?

Also, I still find that last statement weird. I think it's because Riley and Liander are not romantically or sexually involved so the sentence just seemed weird to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Riley and Rhoan have siblings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Twins definitely run in the mothers side since she now has two sets of twins.

Quinn and Riley are moon sworn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so glad Blake is dead. I sincerely wish he had been horribly tortured first though... :(

Wonder what happened with the vampire killings? Wait was that what the security guy was about? I got a bit lost.

What a great way to end a series. Well done Ms Arthur!!

Sorry there will be Spoilers for previous books.

Riley, having decided to live at the end of the last book, following killing her soul mate, the psychopath Kye, is having a little trouble getting back into the swing of things.

Having finally gone back to work, Jack is trying to ease her in gently and sends her to a ritual killing. Of course, nothing is simple with Riley. Trouble is playing with Fate and using silver bullets.

So like always, there is more than one plot afoot, this time Blake Jenson, alpha of Riley & Rhoan's childhood pack is out for vengeance and has Riley kidnapped and her memory erased, right in the middle of the Directorate case. All hell breaks loose, in a small town in the middle of the desert in WA (Western Australia) and it felt like the middle of nowhere as well, when another ritual killing happens right there in town. With all the hallmarks of the original case. So memories start trickling down with the help of the local top cop, a werewolf named Harris.

Loved this book, loved Quinn, loved the ending.

Looking forward to reading the spinoff series about Dia's daughter Risa, who was the one who persuaded Riley to choose life in the last book.

I love this series. It was one of my first paranormal series and I have stuck with it from the beginning - and loved every twist and turn it has taken. I'm so completely sad that it is over. I'm going to miss these characters like they were friends who've moved away. I'm just glad that the series ended while it was still strong and that Keri really let Riley and company go out with a bang! Such a great wrap up to this series.

I love so many of the characters in this series. Riley is so strong, mentally and physically. She's an amazing heroine. Her lovers have all been interesting and some have made emotions stir in me that were both good and bad. Her brother has been her rock throughout the whole series. Rhoan and Liander are great guys that you can't help but love and root for from the beginning to the end.

I don't want to give to much away, but I will just say, that after such a long journey with Riley, I was really hoping that she would get the happily ever after that she'd been dreaming of, and so deserved. But, as I learned right along with Riley, sometimes the happily ever after that we get is even better than the one we've dreamed of.

*****This may contain spoilers*****

What can i say....so many emotions are running through me at this moment, utter happiness, to utter sadness, sadness as the series has ended but happiness for Riley. I even cried both with joy & sadness.

wow i am so happy that Riley got her happy ending. Not only Riley, but Quinn,Rhoan,Liander & she's going to be a mom she deepest wish, her dream. They are their own pack, a brand new beginning.

This is the best ending to a wondrous, heart-stopping series, one that i will read again. All the loss ends tied up. The beat, Rhoan & Riley, Blake & his tyrant hold over the Jenson pack for the better, the Jenson pack can go on to bigger & better things, they have a future. So does Riley having sworn herself to Quinn, he was there all along the one she should be with, the one how always loved her.

I recommend this series to everyone.I can not rate this high enough & can't believe i had it sat on my book shelf for months before reading it.(shame on me)

A lovely end to this 9 book series! The storyline for the final book was done well (even if it was a little predictable and solved relatively easily), and the last line of the epilogue gave me happy little flutters!

Fellow readers gave me soooo many warnings about this book. The conclusion to the much beloved Riley Jenson series. So I was bracing for the worst. Like some kind of gun-ho drama where everyone dies and the lead wakes up in an alternate universe where she is God. (Though those endings might only happen in Anime.) Because in my mind I have never read a truly brilliant final book. "The Ends" always disappoints. Maybe because you know everyone is going to get a Happily Ever After or the author spelled it all out for you books ago. In my mind end books are just there to say P.S. this series is over here's your closure. Even Harry Potter's final book didn't blow me away. End books are average reads at best.

That said, this book surprised me. Instead of pulling away from the general guidelines of this series, Arthur comfortably sticks to the good stuff. After all, if it's not broke don't fix it. Riley is set on a murder mystery where criminals released from jail are being killed by a red cloven hove demon. Kye's warnings of Blake, the alpha wolf that tossed Riley off the face of a mountain, are nagging at Riley. She's not sure whether she's paranoid or if Blake's "revenge" is coming. This is a Riley book, of course the bad guys are out to get her.

After yet another car accident Riley wakes up in the desert with a patchy memory and only a week to get her memory back or die. Unlike the other many UF/PNR titles out there where the lead has no memory it's a real treat to have one up on the lead. It was beautiful frustration knowing more then Riley as she struggled to figure out what was going on. Of course, the original murder mystery follows her. So yeah, even the final book gets hung up on the same old formula that Arthur desperately clings to. At this point I wonder if this is the formula she will use for every book she writes.

What is great about this final entry is that readers get closure. Quinn and Riley's relationship has been so intense and REAL for me. Especially Quinn. I've gone from mild interest, to loathing him, wanting him dead, and now to absolute adoration. Riley has grown from a free and loose wolf, with a white house picket fence complex, to a real person. Realizing that love can't be planned out or forced. The two have come so far, and I am beyond over joyed to see things come together.

In the end, this isn't a brilliant conclusion. Arthur needed to break a way from her overly done plot. Shake it up! Quite borrowing plots from your own stories. However, for this series it worked just find. All a reader can ask for at the end of a series is for closure. That's exactly what Moon Sworn delivers.

Sexual Content: For a Riley Jenson book pretty sparse. There is abuse of a pregnant woman, while it’s not graphically illustrated it’s mentioned.

3/5- Adored it, just a few minor details held it back.

Mon avis en Français

My ENglish review

I've been a huge fan of this series since the beginning. I love Riley's no nonsense attitude, she is who she is and isn't going to change no matter what is thrown in her face. I love the mysteries presented in each book and feel that Keri Arthur is one of the best out there at keeping readers interested in what is going on. These books balance plot and character development perfectly, and that is why I am still around at book nine. Unfortunately, Moon Sworn was a total miss for me. There wasn't very much character progression, the mystery was unimportant, and the confrontation was anticlimactic. The book starts out a bit slow because it picks up after the end of the last one, on one hand I wanted Riley to be strong, but on the other hand I appreciate that an author is taking the time to have a character mourn a loss. How often do you really see that in other books? With the breakneck pace at which most UFs progress, it is nice to have a serious moment here or there. The ritual murders are interesting and the mystery is presented well, but everything falls apart after that. All of the sudden Riley is in another body and has to spend hundreds of pages remembering who she is. Then, there is a confrontation with the big bad guy and it's over with a lovely ending. It's just too easy. Where is the compelling page turning edge of your seat plot? Maybe it's just a personal preference issue, and everyone else will like this book, but I felt like it was largely a cop out. Simple mystery, large section of nothing happening, happy ending. I just don't like sitting through a large chunk of a book where the main character has to rehash everything we already know. It's not good enough, and not up to par with the rest of the series. I'm extremely disappointed, and now it's over. The exciting ideas presented in book one were never fully explored, now this book makes me wonder what could have been.

Mild spoilers.. maybe? Probably.

hm. It's over. Not quite sure how I feel about that.. Except that I am happy that it's over. I was basically forcing myself to go on in the series. It was a lot of the same story in each book. The only difference was who she was sleeping with at the time and her only steady lover(Quinn) I absolutely hated. So I just had a really hard time getting emotionally attached to the characters. But by time I formulated that opinion I was already 4 or 5 books in and I just had to finish it.

I will say that this book was pretty good. There was a lot of unresolved problems that finally came to an end. Riley was dealing with Kade and Kye's deaths, so that added some depth to her, I think. She has always been kind of unemotional and I hated that. It sucks that it only happened in the last book. She also had Blake, her old packs leader, trying to get his revenge. I like what happened with the pack.

Then there is Quinn... ugh... My opinion of him changed in the last book. From absolute loathing to ehhh I don't really care and this book brought him up just a little bit higher.. Just a little. I hold grudges against characters and I still can't get over the whole mind manipulation thing. Sorry buddy.

At the end of this book though, I do think him and Riley are perfect together. I love Rhoan and Liander. They are by far the best people in the book. I think the only reason I read on was because of them. The ending was pretty much perfect. I won't lie. It's been pretty obvious from my reviews of this series that it hasn't been my favorite but the ending made up for it. It's got to be hard to end a 9 book series and Keri Arthur did a fantastic job. All the loose ends were tied and they all lived happily as a pack. Adorable.

This was a pretty good ending to this series. It provides closure even though I felt the murder plot was a bit weaker than usual. So yeah, I admit it - Quinn finally has me in his corner. It took pretty much the entire series but I'm now a fan. Don't get me wrong - this isn't to say I was okay with the whole - my soul mate is a fuckbag fiasco that was Bound to Shadows - I'm just saying that the closure was decent. I still argue that for all the times in this series wolves insist that your soul mates death will kill you, it seems to happen more than you think. Of course there's Ben who was purportedly kept alive through the love of his sister. Riley herself was brought back from the brink by Risa going in and escorting her soul home. But if it wasn't for Risa, I really think that Riley would have died so what does this really say about her relationship with Quinn? If I were Quinn I would always feel like second best. Sure, they make their relationship work and it works well, but that hole in Riley's soul? Always gonna be there, bub. And then we meet Harris - a wolf sheriff and he mentions that his soul mate died also. So what the heck?

This book finally brings to a head the feud between Riley, Rhoan, and their old pack. It was a decent ending but I felt it to be a bit anti-climactic. It's hard to finish a series and this one did a fine job, but I think I give it 4 stars mainly because I am going right into the Dark Angels spin-off

As good as ever. This book was one of my favorites of the series. I am super glad that Kye is gone he was such a jerk but I was really sad about Kade. You could see how much Riley was struggling with what happened and how much guilt she had over Kade's death. I loved the whole memory loss storyline because really it proved that even in the dark she finds her way back to fighting monsters and helping people every time. Blake was so stupid to believe that he could try and get Riley out of the way for long. Especially when he didn't know everything there was to know about her. I mean he thought he had every contingency accounted for when really all of his attempts to get a handle on Riley failed miserably. I also couldn't figure out why he was so sure that he was going to beat Riley in the arena? I think the only reason was his son with the gun but still that was a lot of faith to put into one person and obviously it was misplaced. I'm sooo happy that Riley FINALLY admitted how in love with Quinn she is. I've been waiting for that the entire series. I'm also excited that they are moon sworn/married and that her and Liander are having TWINS!! I mean is there really anything else to complete the story besides all of them raising the next generation. I am a bit sad that the story is over but I think it ended on a very good note.

Aww... Bittersweet,bittersweet... I am happy with the outcome but am sad to see Riley go. I really loved this series! Can't believe it's over. So much to say but can't think of where to start.
Ugh Kade!! soo sad, the most emotional start to a book i have ever read. I was never 100% sure of both her soulmates but of Kade? He was perfect, was my favorite of all Riley's men, so for her to kill him off as well as Kye was genius just because it made such an impact. Quinn definetly grew on me as i knew he probably would, she has a way of really bringing out their characters. So charming, sexy and protective, and not so clean cut, he has a past and a bunch of tricks up his sleeve, somebody i would definetly want to have my back!
There's a couple loose ends that are wandering around in my head but thats good right, cause Riley Jenson's life continues we just won't be there to see it. Ha

"One will hurt her, one will heal her and one will always be around" ??
I got 2/3 just stuck on the healing part, i have a couple people for that one but not positive. That's been racking my brain since book 5!!

"And you are my world, and everything that means anything to me, Remember that, when the Demons are getting the better of you"-Quinn to Riley
Fantastically romantic and horrifically nightmarish at the same time. Riley is taken and her love may be dead, that is only the beginning, her memory is gone. She is confused and fears an unknown pain from.... ? She is beaten, burned and with people she doesn't think she knows...Her greatest challenge is yet to come, as her chance finally for happiness. Her quest is heart breaking. This book is a roller-coaster ride, I loved it, especially the ending. If you love this series don't miss this one ! The series could not have ended any better.

Anyone who's read this series from the begining knows that Riley Jensen hasn't had an easy life. From the time she was first born she's had to overcome some huge obstacles. This final book in the Riley Jensen series manages to nicely bring closure to every major theme in her story and leaves us excited for any future break off series that may come from this. I loved every second of this book. Riley and Quinn are one of my TOP paranormal couples. I loved all the interaction between the two of them. I'd have to say this is one of the most fulfilling endings to any series I've ever read. Thanks Keri for such an amazing time!

Moon Sworn (Riley Jenson Guardian, #9)

5  Stars is not enough for this book!

Keri Arthur blew my mind away with this one.

I was getting tired of the same pattern in all Riley's books, but this one!!

Haven't saw it coming!

By far, the best in the series and with a perfect ending!

Im sad to see the Riley Jenson books come to a close. She has grown into her own. She needs to wrap up her past childhood stuff. Can she move on? Her memory has been wiped. She's been set up in a remote town, fed a lie. Can she break free and find her destiny?
