I feel like I have to warn readers about this book: it's incredibly anticlimatic. I was expecting lots of anticipation and suspense and tension, but I didn't get a lot of it. The description and previews looked very promising, but I don't think it delivered.
Normally, I love this author. She does thorough research in regards to the historical aspects of her books, which makes the whole thing seem more real. She does this in this book as well, but somehow it seemed more forced, and less natural them her writing usually does.
There wasn't a lot of chemistry between Lydia and Aro, and it almost took me by surprise when .
I felt like all of the problems also got solved way too easily. There was this whole "oh my god if she does that then this or this or this could happen and the world will end" feeling to the story, and then it all just resolves itself in the last chapter.

Oh and the whole 3 kiss wager thing? Yeah, also disappointing. And completely predictable.

I'm finding myself at a loss as to what to write for a review. There are so many good things I could focus on. I could write an entire review on how much Lydia and Aro's relationship has hidden depths that are a complete pleasure to the senses to discover. Their journey towards HEA captured my heart. I could write an entire review on how comfortable I was reading it even though it was in a time setting I'm not that familiar with. She made it all very real, very true to the time yet still I felt connected. I could write an entire review on how the plot flows and the secrets and danger kept me turning the pages with anticipation. So, I will just have to settle with saying Sold and Seduced is an all-around pleasurable read that I would recommend with no hesitation. It is written with a skill so many Roman romances are lacking for me. I could actually imagine myself there! Thank you Michelle for bringing Roman romance to life for me yet again.

Cool note: I found out today that Michelle Styles's Regency IMPOVERISHED MISS, CONVENIENT WIFE won Cataromance Reviewer's Choice Award for best M&B Historical 2009 Congratulations Michelle!

Una historia de amor y pasión envolvente ambientada en la antigua Roma. Una novela que nos transporta.

In a subgenre full of gladiators and emperors, Styles has penned a refreshing, fascinating look at the life of a Roman merchant and the wife whose heart he is determined to win. Both main characters are deftly drawn, and the tension between them crackles throughout the story. Equally impressive is Styles' seamless incorporation of Roman history and culture. She does not just conjure the sights and sounds of the ancient world, she highlights its differences, including how pride, patronage, and lineage affected peoples actions and motivations. A rich, wonderful story!

This was a weird book, it was written in a strangely formal way, none of the characters seemed like real or believable people. Nobody talked in an at all natural way, it’s like it was missing breath. Also it seemed to go on for ever, with nothing really happening. And I didn’t believe in their love. It was boring and stiff in the worst way.

3.5⭐️ I really loved the rich setting and the way the author wrote the story. What I had a hard time with was Lydia’s character. She drove me nearly insane with her stupid decisions and petty stubbornness.

It was a nice book, but it wasn't really fulfilling. Not saying these kind of books should be but I thought it would be more.

The story.

A young woman whom is running the household, Lydia, trying to keep her family from crumbling apart. Shes caught in a tough situation and chooses the morally right path. Unfortunately, every action has a reaction. This action has lead her to be married off to one of the most notoriously known intimidating men, the "Sea Wolf." And on top of that he isn't even an upper class citizen. She's marrying BENEATH herself!!!!

Unfortunately the plot doesn't really do a thorough job, I mean there could have been a divine story had Ms Styles followed through.

Like why didn't she follow up with:

Lupan's houses' story
Offiellus's hate, and the history behind the rift?
What about Gallus's involvement?
Where is Publius during all of this and why he takes no responsibility and it's okay?
Why did Cornelius change?
What was Cornelius's illness?
...

Nevermind, there are just too many damn questions to go through the whole damn book and try and write down.

It wasn't a very detailed story.

Disappointing.

A charming little slice-of-life romance set in 1rst century BCE Rome about an ambitious merchant (with a shady aristocratic past) and his stubborn patrician bride. There are plot holes as other reviewers have pointed out, and the story moves at a rather conversational pace, but it has lovely atmosphere. At times it's so vivid you can imagine you're in Rome, watching the sun set behind the cypress trees.

There are also some enjoyable love scenes. The bath scene, with its strategic oil and strigils, is a special highlight.

This isn't for everyone, but if it sounds interesting to you, you might like it. It's a nice change of pace from the usual Regency fluff-- it's even markedly different from the usual violent warrior or gladiatorcentric adventures one finds in the ancient period historical romance sub-sub-genre.

Set in Ancient Rome this wonderful novel tells the story of Lydia a fiery and determined woman bent on maintaining her independence even though she has been sold into marriage to Aro otherwise known as The Sea Wolf.
Handsome and fierce Aro is determined to keep Lydia as his wife and so enters a bargain with her. If in seven days she doesn't beg for his kisses three times he'll release her.
With their bargain in place and a sabatour on the loose can they find happiness with each other before its to late?
A fabulous book of determination, loyalty and lustful bargains. A must read.

This wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. Lydia never really won me over and although I liked her spirit I didn't find her a good heroine. Too willing to listen to others not Aro, too much pride and too afraid for her own good, even though she acted courageous and strong. Aro was wonderful, and that's why I bothered to finish the book. The time period was beautifully portrayed, the historical detail enthralling, pity about the heroine, really.
