Sometimes when a reader goes on to read the second book in a series, they are disappointed. This is not the case with the Skye Morrison Vampire series. "Sins of the Father" is equally as good as the first book in the series if not better because now all of the background data and world building has been established. To be fair, I still have some of the same minor problems with this book as I did with the first. I loathe all of the outdated and cheeky terms of endearments the characters continually throw at each other i.e. "girlfriend, babe, hon." At times, I wanted to scream, enough already!!!!!! In addition, it is no secret that I am not a fan of love triangles especially in adult books. I compare it admiring a beautiful piece of art but knowing it would not look good in your living room. You just wouldn't buy it.
This book begins immediately following the events of the previous book. Skye and Jameson awaken to discover their cars totally demolished by vandals. It does not take them long to narrow their suspects down to Skye's ex-boyfriend, Jesse; but, they did not expect what was waiting for them inside Skye's vehicle: the head of Jesse and the body of Callum, Jameson's good friend. Of course the calvary is brought in and Archer demands that Skye is moved into his lakefront home with the vamps.
At the house, Aoife, continues to be her annoying self but she must admit that her relationship/ marriage to Archer has been over for sometime. Skye realizes she should have given him a chance to explain before moving forward with her relationship with Jameson but the deed is done. Of course, Archer is angry as hell that Skye is now with his brother. While they wrestle to keep their feeling under control, Archer requests that Skye begin training with Haagan. She learns a lot and has the bruises to prove it. So, Archer suggests she takes the day off to heal.
Skye goes into the city and meets up with a friend. They decide to go to a local hookah bar and have a drink. Here Skye discovers that the bar is owned by none other than Dic the man she sees from time to time at The Mausoleum. This will not be the only discovery made with regards to this man especially when Archer discovers where and who she is with.
The vamps continue to research who is killing off their family members but truth be told, they do not have a clue; but, when Skye is kidnapped and tortured they must rally together if they are going to find her in time to save her.
There was plenty of action and intrigue in this book as in the first. I love the characters. There is just such a tasty cadre of good and really nasty bad guys that makes for a more interesting read. I will admit that one of my favorite characters is Jameson but I also found Amun, the villian just as delicious. Pick up this series and enjoy the ride. It is well worth the cost of admission.
