Eighteen-year-old Sage Hannigan wants to get back to her own time, preferably one that hasn’t been destroyed by an underworld plot brewing in Edwardian-era South Carolina. How hard can it be?
All she has to do is:
1. Learn to use newly acquired warping skills to bend time to her will. 2. Take out a few rogue vampires. 3. Join an ancient secret society. 4. Figure out who is putting the time stream in jeopardy. 5. Find and maim whoever invented the corset.
Sage never asked to be chosen by the Druid Priestess, Amerach, to become a Warper. She also never asked to have the future hanging on her shoulders or to warp a hundred years into the past. She certainly never asked to meet Dr. Aldwin Blake, who would make her question her desire to get back to her own time. But if she fails her mission, people will die, history will change, and the present she wishes to return to will be no more.
I just finished Contingency and I am so emotional right now. I want to cry, scream, curse and break things. Peggy Martinez you are killing me! I NEED to know what happens next!!! You just ripped my heart out and stomped on it! What an amazing book!! LOL
Sage Hannigan is a Warper, which means she travels through time. She has the ability to protect the world from the preternatural community, but is she up for the task? Will she make it back to her own time?
Sage wakes to find she has been transported to 1904. She finds out there are creatures in the world that she thought only existed in horror movies. Vampires, Shifters and Merfolk are part of the preternatural community that may change history. It is her task to prevent this. She joins forces with an ancient secret society to learn how to use her powers and meets the handsome (dreamy) Dr.Aldwin Blake. He is in charge of teaching her fighting skills. She must also learn proper etiquette and dress in the appropriate attire, including the dreadful corset.
I loved this book from start to finish. I can't even begin to express how well written and developed the characters are. I fell head over heals for Dr. Aldwin Blake. My favorite quote from the book is from Aldwin. "I'd miss you a hell of a lot if you were to warp back to your own time. That's selfishness and I don't regret or apologize for it." What a man!!
I highly recommend this wonderful book. If I could give it 10 stars, I'd give it 11. One of the best books of 2012 by far!!
Sage is a great character. She finds herself entering another time period and facing new this including a vampire first thing. She soon learns vampires aren't the ony things that go bump in th night and that she herself has a special power. She meets several new people like Travis who helps her in fighting the vampire, Elaine and Dr. Blake. They help her train her powers and send her on a mission. I really enjoyed this book as it kept me guessing who as good and who was bad. The action flowed really nicely and had lots of nice twist and turns. All the paranormal creatures that Peggy included in this book made a nice touch. Sage made the right pick in her love interest in this book. She has not one but two guys she could have had but no it's not a love trianle so don't worry if your not a fan of those. It is an intriguing tale of mystery and love that will hook you in quick. The only reason that it is four and not five stars is I wanted more detail. I hated the ending but not because it was bad but ecause it was over and not how I wanted it to end. A must read for a thrilling time traveling paranormal book.
A gorgeous cover and a very good friend’s recommendation sold this book to me in a heartbeat. I’m a sucker for eye-catching book covers and many times I’ve purchased books without reading the blurb, so of course a book with a cover as breathtaking as this one would be no exception. This being the author’s debut novel and me having only read one time-travel book before, I was a little worried I might be disappointed although I didn’t have an preset expectations of Contingency. Two chapters into the story though, I lost touch with reality as I immersed myself into this unforgettable book; my initial trepidation completely forgotten.
The highlight for me was the remarkable characters the author created. I connected with them easily and by the middle of the book they felt like friends to me. Sage is a lovely character with a unique voice and tongue-in-cheek sense of humor, but she has a rather short fuse on her temper. There are vampires, werewolves and a love-triangle – my three least favorite things – BUT the author thankfully stayed away from overused clichés and the instant-attraction angle. I actually enjoyed this specific triangle between Sage, Aldwin, and Soren and I’ll let you know that I’m definitely Team Soren. The romance felt natural and wasn’t rushed which gives the reader the opportunity to get to know all these characters first before falling in love with one or both of them. More things I enjoyed about the story were the fight scenes, the unexpected betrayals, and the heart-stopping scene with President Rooseveldt.
The writing flows smoothly, the pacing is just right, and the plot is well-executed. It is clear from the start the author is a natural storyteller as the dialogue of the characters fit perfectly into the era in which the story takes place. The stunner ending paved the way for a second book and I can’t wait to read what happens next to Sage. The author managed to effortlessly make me feel as though I was part of Sage’s group of friends in the Edwardian era. The surroundings and life in the early 1900s were so well described I could easily envision the setting and feel of this particular time in history. Contingency truly is an amazing story and fans of Cassandra Clare’s Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments series’ should give this novel a go. It’s an easy read I finished in a day.
This series is about a 18 year girl Sage, and she time travels from 2004 to 1904. But let me tell you, from the very start it keeps you compelled to flipping pages. Sage is considered a Warper, with a very unique power. I am very impressed with this book. And looking forward to the next one. I enjoyed the idea of not having the male, a model type figure. What I mean by that is, Martinez, chose a guy for her book that is perfect in Sage's eyes. Big scar down his face and blind in one eye. But Martinez, made him a swoon worthy BF. And that takes skill! She adds everything in the book. Mystery, love, fighting, supernatural. She had me right up till the end, on who was the bad. Point for you Martinez! What a interesting concept. I really enjoy it. I was intrigued from the very beginning!
So now advice for you Peggy Martinez, get busy on your other books. And be sure to share when they are ready!
Peggy Martinez Contingency Sage Hannigan Time Warper #1
Eighteen-year-old Sage Hannigan wants to get back to her own time, preferably one that hasn’t been destroyed by an underworld plot brewing in Edwardian-era South Carolina. How hard can it be?
This book soon drew me into the storyline, and never let go. When I wasn’t reading, I was constantly wondering what was going to happen next.
The story and chapters flowed incredibly well, and the characters developed significantly as the book continued. It’s well written, and kept me well and truly gripped throughout the entire book.
Reading the last few pages, I just didn’t want it to end. I need more, and to see where this is going to lead ~ it’s far from over for Sage.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I received this book from the author to give an honest review.
I am not a big fan of reading books that have you go back in time, but I thought hey I would give this book a try. And I am so glad I did. It was a terrific read with likable characters and a great story line.
Sage is a normal person until one day she picks up a necklace and ends up in a new time period. With her going back in time she seems to open herself up a bit more which is great. Sage soon learns that she has certain powers, and she has a mission. While on her mission she learns there are other supernatural creatures out there besides the vampires.
She gets help from quite a few people Elaine, Dr. Blake and Travis which all help her learn and use her powers. Along with how to use weapons and defend herself if necessary. Along with doing her mission she finds herself in the middle of a love triangle and is not sure who to pick.
I gave this book 4 1/2 stars because I wish there was more detail in how Sage had her power this whole time. I understand it was "awakened" in her, but was she born with it? Also are there other warpers. I would have liked to have known what the saying on her knife said that Dr. Blake gave her.
Contingency is filled with love, action, and will keep you guessing on who is good and who is bad.
Contingency is a fantasy story with a difference. Sage meets a strange old woman, feels a burning sensation behind her ear, then wakes up 100 years in the past. She has unusual powers and is classed as a ‘warper’ which is definitely a fresh take on the whole vampire slaying scene, just one of many supernatural beings included in this book.
The pacing of the story is a bit erratic, it starts off running a mile a minute, then slows to a sedate crawl for a while before stampeding on to the end. I found the whole thing quite exhilarating! It was a pleasant journey and kept me guessing the outcome all the way!
I am expecting to see more from our MC she deserves to have more stories written for her and I hope the author has plans in the pipeline to make this into a series. Peggy has a great writing technique that makes it easy to be pulled into the story and if she works on her pacing I could easily see me finding a 5 star read from this author in the future.
I was given this book for an honest review and man I am lucky to have received this book! This was more than I could have asked for and I loved it so much! First off you are getting paranormal, historical, and romance all in one! It is like the perfect book! You get a girl who is beyond lost in her own skin and has no intention of what to do next. Then you get her back into the past and you love the new situation already it takes place in an era I'd love to live in for the attire the women wear. To feel like a princess everyday would be awesome! I can't spoil any more because I am a spoil free reviewer but I am team Sorin and I can't wait for book two! This is an amazing read and you will not regret it!
Oh and the lead girl character is amazing she is very cocky and smart mouthed and I LOVE it!!!
I started reading this book not sure what to expect. Not going to lie I was drawn in from the very begininng. The story was amazing! Some parts were a little slow but I'm so happy I bought this book! I must say I have new crush who goes by the name of soren;) I felt bad for sage in the end my heart went out to her. To find everything you wanted and didn't know you want just to have it taken away. I honestly hope this turns into a series, if they do it will be space well used on my kindle and space gladly taken up on my book shelf. Peggy martinez is on my favorite authors list!
10*s. I recieved an eARC copy of this book from Melissa M Ringsted, Editor in return of an honest review. What would you do if your normal life was literally turned upside down and now the fate of the world lies in your hands? Yep yep, alot to take in right? I really enjoyed this book from beginning to end and how well written and fast paced it is!! This is a marvelously addictive story full of humor, suspence and supernatural action that will capture all ages and genres to want to read this story!! Thank you, Peggy Martinez for the opportunity to read this fabulous book!!
I have only one word for this book , that immediately jumped to my mind when i started with it ,when i was reading it ,and when i was finishing it , EXTRAORDINARLY OVERWHELMING , but these are two words ;). I loved it , can't wait for the sequel.
I love books that make you feel like you have a relationship/friendship with the characters. I read this book quickly and I'm now really missing Sage until the new book comes out in a few books. I can't wait to "hang out" with Sage again when Relativity comes out. =)
I totally loved this book!!! I loved the supernatural creatures and I adored Sage! One of the best books I've read in years! Was surprised and saddened by the ending! Looking forward to reading Relativity! Got to find out what happens next! Peggy you rock girl!!! I wanna read all of your books!!
One of my first reactions on reading this book was relief, because oh goodness - it's a sexy, scary vampire who isn't an angsty teen stalker type and doesn't glitter or sparkle or anything. Yay!
Now that that's out of the way...
18-year-old Sage is on her own in the world. She lost her parents at an early age and isn't great at making friends. All that changes after a chance purchase of an ancient stone turned into a jewellery pendant and an encounter on the street with a scary, kind of random old witch type priestess lady, who sends her back in time to 1904, where she has to learn to rely on people, vampires, and herself.
That sounds pretty corny when I write it out like that, but this is actually a pretty rockin' good book. It combines some of my favourite things - vampires, time travel, the Edwardian era, corsets and other fashion of the day, and a kick-ass, strong female lead character who can be a big damn hero all by herself. No kidding.
So many books I read today, particularly with young heroines, seem to be damsel-in-distress stories, where a big strong man is needed to save the day. Okay, yes, there are some save the day moments in this book as well, but for the most part, Sage does the saving. I like that.
The author also surprised me with a quirky bad-guy twist at the end that I wasn't expecting. Well done! It's actually really hard to fool me in fiction, and I thought I had the ultimate bad guy figured out, but I was way off target and was pleasantly shocked and adored the drama of the last conflict.
Another note that I found really made me respect the book and the author: sex. Okay, so usually I skim or skip sex scenes in books. I usually find them either tedious and boring or just too much and not really sexy. This author knows how to write a tingling moment with no sex in it. Some of the sexiest parts of this book had no sex in them at all, and the sex that was there was well-written. No frowning, skipping ahead, or frustration for me - it was lovely!
I'm not sure if this is meant to be a series, but I'd be right on board to read more of Sage's adventures. The series reminds me a little bit of the Anita Blake novels by Laurell K Hamilton, in that you have a no-nonsense, female lead and a couple of guys who both seem pretty enthralled with her, there's plenty of preternatural intrigue, mysteries to solve, and new powers of her own for Sage to uncover. Nifty.
There were a few problems with editing - not uncommon in self-published work - which is why this is only 4 stars for me. With some polishing it could easily rocket to a solid 5.
*This book was received at no cost through the GoodReads First Reads program.
Sometimes as a reader I get burnt out on some supernatural entities for me its the damn vampires.. im always intrigued when I find something new.. and to me the idea of a Warper was new and fresh..
Sage Hannigan is just a tiny little thing of 18.. nothing to be frighten of.. awesome I love when a character is small and harmless looking but secretly a super bad ass..I like to think that I myself am secretly super bad ass.. Sage find a necklace in a store that is a beautiful piece.. She purchases it and that night is transported 100 years into the past.. she travels 100 years and with some amazing luck comes face to face with a rogue vampire.. and my thought oh great.. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the vampires didnt really play all that big part of the story this story is more about Sage and her training.. Sage is saved from the rogue vampire by Travis.. someone who knows what she is and how to help.. I mean really what are the chances of that? Like one in a billion? Travis takes her to Howell house to recover and introduces her to Elaine Howell and Dr. Aldwin Blake (Blake mysteriously smells/tastes of honey).. who is the Swoon worthy fellow here.. and that I LOVED the smart guys arent usually the eye candy but he was and the nerd girl in me was overjoyed.. They decide she warped here to help with some mega super big catastrophe and assume the rogue vampires are that catastrophe.. She they train her to be a proper woman of 1904.. they train her on all the supernatural species and how to kill them.. and god bless him Dr. Blake trains her to fight.. Finally they decide she is proper enough to be out on her own and she encounters more vampires.. including the Delicious Soren Blackwell..
the next day shes got a job interview and wouldnt you know its with Soren.. she gets the job to be his pretend mistress and seal it with a kiss because that what anyone would do right.. yeah that was a little outta left field but with all the passion flowing Soren realizes she isnt what she said she was and with no other choice to come clean she does and he agrees to help her.. they decide it would be best to seal this deal with a friendly hand shake.. So many twists and turns kept me wanting more.. especially more Dr. Blake.. Are they able to stop the catastrophe come on now you know Im not telling..
I found Martinez writing enjoyable fun.. I smiled a few times and theres nothing like the goofy grin of a bookworm.. With Relativity coming out in soon I cant wait to see where the next part of Sage's story leads us!
I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review i enjoyed it so much that i turned around and purchased it :D
Contingency is the story of 18 year old Sage who is unceremoniously yanked back in time 100 years to the age of horse drawn carriages, and corsets Withing minutes of arriving she is attacked by a vampire, rescued and taken in my a secret society where she soon learns that vampires aren't the only things she has to worry about. She learns that she is a Warper, someone who can freeze time and time-travel and that she was sent to 1904 to help to put an end to a string of killings that could change the course of history as we know it. Sage was a great character. She was witty and smart and grew a great deal as the book progressed. She became a very tough young woman with a strong fighting spirit. She learned to adapt to this new world and how to control her new gifts. We are introduced to a whole host of characters. We have the people that Sage comes to trust and rely on: Elaine, Travis, Dr. Aldwin Blake. I loved Dr. Blake, I thought he was a great love interest. He was not your usual love interest. He is blind in one eye and has a horrible scar down one side of his face but Peggy still makes him in to a swoon worthy guy. Although I feel there is more to him than what we see. There is also a whole host a paranormal creatures too which make the story so much more interesting. There wasn't just vampires but shifters, merfolk and more. The story was very faced paced. From the very beginning the story shoots off and doesn't slow down until you have turned the last page. I thought that maybe the start was a bit rushed, but other than that the story was really enjoyable and will keep you on the edge of your seat. There was however the dreaded love triangle. You probably all know by now that I detest love triangles. BUT...I have a feeling this one could be interesting. We only got a little taste of a love triangle brewing. I haven't yet decided who I will be rooting for yet. It will be interesting to see who takes my vote. One thing to Peggy as well. What the hell is up with that ending?!?! You can't leave it like that!! :( That was so not cool! You better bring out book 2 soon or me and you will be having words! :P
Overall this book was a great read. Full of love, hate, mystery, betrayal, action and romance this book will have you laughing out load and bawling like a baby. A must for fantasy and paranormal lovers.
I was provided with an ecopy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Sage Hannigan led a comfortable loner lifestyle in 2004, but when she felt compelled to purchase a necklace at an antique store, it sets her life in motion in a way she never expected. Inconveniently transfered to 1904, Sage is forced to take on a new life, finding guidance in a set of curious people with a few abilities themselves, all members of a secret society. Turns out Sage is a time warper, and she was transported back in time 'cause her ability was needed against a supernatural dilemma. Rogue vampires were on the loose and being able to stop time was advantageous in wiping them out. But poor Sage knows nothing about how to call upon her power, how to fight against supernatural beings, or how to act properly in the early twentieth century. Once schooled in all those things, she's sent to infiltrate the vampire society by becoming the leader's new assistant, and soon finds out she's in way over her head.
Contingency was a pleasant surprise. The first half of the novel dragged out for me, but once Sage got past the training and was released into the world to do her job, the story picked up and demanded my attention better. She found herself becoming involved with two guys; one a member of the secret society training her, the other the vampire she's told to assist...and neither of the men are fond of the other, especially once they realize they're both interested in the same woman. Truth be told, I was a little confused as to why Sage was so determined to return to her life in the present, 'cause in the past she found friends, two possible lovers and a sense of purpose - all things she seemed to lack in her own timeline. She didn't have anything to go back to, so I was surprised she was anxious to finish the job and get transported back already. But still, there was plenty of action and romantic interest, so I was pretty happy with the way Contingency turned out in the end, so I'll most likely check out the next book.
I'm not sure why, but when I first started reading this book, I got stuck in the beginning. For months it sat untouched in my currently reading pile. I wonder to myself now, why? Maybe I was just as confused as Sage Hannigan was when she warped from the modern day to 1904. Luckily she got over it faster than I did, and lucky for me, I did eventually get over it, and found an amazing story.
Sage Hannigan is a feisty young woman. She doesn't have any real friends and doesn't like to let people get close to her ever since she was attacked years before. When she finds a necklace at an antique book store it calls to her. After she puts it on, she awakens a power she has never known about. Sage becomes a Warper. Her new gift causes her to travel back in time to stop a disturbance that might cause a disruption in the timeline as she knows it. As a perk it also allows her to stop time, long enough to get away from an attacker, or to attack them first. Of course she must learn to control it first, because this past she has warped to, has all sorts of supernatural creatures in it, and some are making trouble. In this past, there is also a secret group called Cerebus. There job is to protect the shapeshifters, vampires, witches, and merfolk(to name a few). Also to make sure that they are not harming those in polite society.
Sage must undergo combat training to protect herself and etiquette training to make everyone think she is from the 1900's and go undercover among the supernaturals to stop them from being blamed in the attacks on humans recently and to stop the one who is framing them and hoping to destroy them by bring them into the harsh light of day. Armed with two dirks and a sharp wit, Sage turns into a butt-kicking femme-fatale who wins the hearts of Soren, a vampire, and Aldwin, one of the Cerberus agents. She also learns that even though she had vowed never to be a victim again, she wasn't really living. With the help of two men, she realizes she wants to live and love, and hopefully keep from warping back to her own time.
Really great book, and now I'm off to read the next book, Contingency.
Contingency has been on my to-be-read list for quite some time. And to tell you the honest to goodness truth, I wasn't sure what to expect or think even through the first couple of chapters. The author did an amazing job of setting up her characters. Showing us just a glimpse of what was to come - even though we didn't realize it.
Sage Hannigan - loner, loner, loner in Charleston. Not many friends, but she seems to be ok with that. She's drawn to a pawn shop, find a seemingly harmless but amazing pendant....and her life is never the same.
Sage is a Warper...and what is a Warper?? Well...that part you're going to have to read for yourself.
I am in love with Sage Hannigan. As for strong female leads...she is up there!! One - she's a kick-ass girl from the 21st century that gets thrust back into the EARLY 20th century!! Two - even with all the adjusting to being a female in the 1900's....she NEVER loses her sense of being a strong woman!! I absolutely love that. Three - beneath all of that kick-ass girlness....she has a heart. And she has a past and a reason for being as hard as she is. I love characters that develop like that. And four - ummmm....she totally kicks preternatural ass in 1900's crazy dresses!! What more can you ask for?!
I love a good love triangle just as the other girl. And boy, is this a good one!! Aldwin Blake....sorry, Dr. Aldwin Blake....can we say YUM!??! You LITERALLY can sense the spark between the two of them from the first moment that they meet. And watching the two of them silently want each other....priceless.
But then - throw in the twist....enter Soren...oh, and did we mention that he's a vampire? And not just any vampire, one of the MOST DANGEROUS AND RESPECTED vampires in Charleston? Yeah - and without giving too much away - things get intense....yeah, just a lot.
I want to see where things go for Sage. Does she end up with the handsome Dr.? How does the sexy vampire come into play? Where is she going to....well....guess we'll have to wait for Relativity to find out....
I liked the time traveling twist on the vampire/paranormal genre idea. Not knowing if/when Sage would get back to her own time made it difficult to put this book down. At first I found her inner monologue at the beginning of the book annoying because it felt like I was actually inside this 18 year old's head. I quickly surmised that this was not a negative, it's actually fantastic writing! It felt very authentic and once I got passed my issues, the book was very entertaining.
The love story is very sweet and simplistic in itself, yet complicated because of time travel. The sex and kissy kissy scenes weren't overly graphic. Once in a while it's nice to leave the "between the sheets" scenes to one's own (overactive?) imagination. Sometimes it seems authors try to push the envelope with how freaky the characters can get in the bedroom and on the page, so it's a nice change of pace when sex isn't the most important part of the relationship. In the context and time period of this story it would have felt forced to have anything too kinky going on.
Aldwin and Soren are two characters that I wish their back stories had been fleshed out a bit more. Aldwin especially seems to be a huge question mark, however the mystery does make him an interesting character. Besides, I have it on very good authority that this is the first book in a trilogy so I'm willing to overlook it at this time.
Over all, this was a great story. I'm excited to read the next installment as the ending left me feeling heartbroken, yet desperately wanting more.
I love when an author can take something that is so common, such as a paranormal genre, and make it all their own. Peggy Martinez has done just that! She's added a new "preternatural" element, called a Warper, that basically bends time and can time travel. I like that the Warpers cannot control the time travel, though. They are taken where they are needed, when they are needed - literally.
When I first started reading this book it seemed to be a YA novel, however, it turned out to be more of a Mature YA (some very mild sexual content - no graphic details, but enough to sate your wants between some of the characters).
And the ending! Ahhh! I could see it coming, I mean Sage could see it coming and was hoping it wouldn't happen. But then it did, and at the worst possible moment!! I was so heart broken!!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! I read it in one sitting and cannot wait to read book two, Relativity, because I am dying to know what happened after the "cliff hanger" at the end of the story. Don't worry, it's not a cliff hanger that is going to make you hate the book; but it will make you want to immediately buy the next in the series, because it's just that good.
Contingency is a supernatural fiction set in the town of Charleston, that focuses on the misadventures of Sage Hannigan when she accidentally warps into the previous century from her own time period of 2004. After she's almost killed by a vampire the Cerberus Society steps in to save her life, explaining the how and why of Sage's little time travelling trip. Something big is set to go down and Sage is the one who's supposed to stop it. Which might be a challenge when it involves a secret society, the President of the United States and a preternatural community you never knew existed. Not forgetting that she's stuck one hundred years in the past.
My favorite part of this book is the beginning as it is brilliantly written to build drama and suspense, even though at first the main character Sage comes off as a bit of a bitch. Her personality improves though when she has to adapt to being in the past where swearing and general moodiness is frowned upon. However the character still seems a bit bipolar and hard to keep up with.
This book is a great read for fans of supernatural fiction. The format is a bit unusual but can easily be forgiven when you get into the story. Definitely worth a read.
I'm just gonna put it out there and say that I LOVE this book. Sage begins her journey as the average lonely, angst filled teenager; she blossoms over the course of the book to a strong, driven woman. I enjoyed how the romantic aspects were under-stated and the plot didn't revolve around the usual 'will she? will he?' romantic plot line. This predictable story arc has become a little over done for me. Instead, the author focuses on the ACTUAL story line- Hurrah! All of the characters, though mysterious, were likable and enjoyable- I cared about their story, and am eager to learn more about them. Except that one character, the one who shall not be named, the one that would totally spoil the entire book for you, but I digress...
When I reached the end of the story, literally, the words 'THE END'- I panicked! With tears in my eyes, I thought, "What? No! This can't be the end! NOOOO!" Yes, folks, the ending is that agonizing. Luckily, there will be more Sage and her adventures to come- Thank the Lords of Kobol! Excellent story, great characters, and fantastic flow- GO READ IT.
I was really looking forward to reading this book so I jumped at the chance when the author offered me a review copy! The plot was very unique and different to a lot of other books that I have read which I loved! The plot was mostly set in 1904 but the plot contained time travel which is why this time period occurred! The plot also had vampires in it which I thought would throw me off but it didn't! There were also shifters, werewolves, fae, and other creatures mentioned in this book as well! Sage Hannigan was the main character and I really liked her! I have to say thought that she doesn't act eighteen years old at all! I would definitely have thought that she was a lot older if the synopsis didn't tell you that she was eighteen! Dr. Aldwin Blake was the love interest of Sage and I really liked him! I actually thought that another character, Travis was going to be Sage's love interest to start with but I was completely wrong! There was a bit of a love triangle between Sage, Aldwin and Soren! Hopefully in the next book this love triangle may move forward as I really enjoyed it! The cover is beautiful! Big thank you to Peggy for an ARC of Contingecy!
You are not completely believable nor convincing. Not that much. I seemed to be scratching my head at your smooth acceptance of finding yourself in the past, with supernatural powers and thrust into a world filled with preternatural beings since you're hardly fazed at all. I would've been freaking out and would have been asking a lot of questions and generally being suspicious of everyone around me. It's my nature and maybe it's not yours. You kept a level head and kudos to you.
With regards to your role as a Time Warper. This role is eerily similar to other secret time societies that I have read in the past. With all these societies protecting the world's timeline, we can rest assured that the ideal turn of events are happening as they are. I guess these societies couldn't have prevented wars could they? Then again, even expert time travelers are not all knowing about events that are supposed to occur. My head aches with all these time rules.
Ok so this book was given to me for my honest review. Below you will find my review hope it is helpful.
Meet Sage she is your average 18 year old female. She lives by herself and like to shop at antique store for all different kinds of nik naks. Sage keeps to her self she has no family and no friends but she prefers it that way. She is shopping on day and on her way home spots a bookstore that she just has to go into. She finds a necklace that she just can't live without and buys it little does she know that the necklace is going to change her life. She goes from year 2004 to year 1904 were it is up to her to save the world that she lives in now from changing.
I found this book to be very intriging this is not normally the kind of book I like to read but it is now. This book made me laugh, kept me on the edge of my seat, and was very hard for me to put down. I would recommended this to everyone and I can't wait till the next one comes out.
Buy and read this book today I promise you won't regret it!!!
Contingency by Peggy Martinez is a great read, I absolutely love this book. The characters are phenomenal, and the story is new & fresh. Contingency will take you on a wild ride of twist and turns that will leave you wanting more. It is filled with all your favorite paranormal creatures & one or two that may be new to you. Sage the main character is now a favorite of mine, She is a stong female lead, that can kick some butt & makes you laugh. Peggy Martinez left me torn between the two male leads Dr. Aldwin Blake & Sorn Blackwell, they are both so yummy. The ending stunned me more than any book I have read before. I can't wait for the next one to be released, I need to know what happens. I don't like to give spoilers, so if I was you I wouldn't even hesitate to buy this book, or you'll be kicking yourself, because I belive this series is going be huge.
I must admit I have not read many time travel books and this is definitely one with a difference, considering Sage did not know she was a Warper and the reader gets to experience her first time with her as she finds herself back in 1904 with no clue as to how she did it. Discovering her heritage and purpose was a shock let alone realizing that supernaturals were real and not just a fairy tale. Sage is a likable heroine who trusts too easily and though she can hold her own in a fight, she wears her heart on her sleeve. What an entertaining fun story with just enough romance, action and secrecy to keep you guessing who the "bad guy" is until the end. Vampires, Shifters, Fae and even Merfolk are all represented here, so do yourself a favour and start reading this series, you won't be disappointed.
I was so excited to read this book, the concept is a good one and I wanted to find another book about time traveling. The reviews were pretty good for this so I gave it a shot... I HATED it!!! You barley get to know the characters and there are refrences to their lives in the past that you basically have no idea about. Not enough explination on anything and because of the lack of detail the read is extremely boring. I will not be finishing the series, even though I never have not finished a series before. I just dont think I can take another book that reads like this. I dont usually write reviews, but if this helps someone to understand that even though this book is free it still not worth the money, then I accomplished my goal. If I could have given it a lower rating, then I for sure would have.. this book was a waste of a great rainy friday night, it could have been so good!!!
