Ever since the near-kiss incident on the school trip, Sawako and Kazehaya have become distant. With Ayane warming to Kento's affections and Chizuru devastated that her friendship with Ryu is beyond repair, does the change of season mean a change of heart?

By far the saddest installment so far. Everyone is feeling uncomfortable, relationships are upset or unbalanced, everyone is unhappy or at least self-conscious. On top of that, the last chapter is a really sad story about No wonder he is so stoic!
There are people you won't see again even though they're still alive. People who leave and people who die are the same in that way.
This volume was mostly about Chizuru and Ryu. Ryu opens up and tells Chizuru his true feelings by confessing to her. But, she turns him down.
(Would you turn this down? @ )
But, it is for a good reason. She's scared of losing what the two of them have between them. She thinks he'll stop being her friend if she accepts, and therefore will always refuse. Chizuru has felt many losses before, and feels like she doesn't need any more of them in her life.
There is also a side storyline of Kento pointing out to Sawako that her and Kazehaya are becoming more and more distant from one another. Sawako has noticed this herself, but she would never mention it to anyone. She wants them to go back to being as close as they were before.
It ends with Chizuru finally telling Ryu why she turned him down. But, he doesn't care about her excuses, and tells her to leave what they have behind in favor of starting something new together. ------------------ I really would like Ryu and Chizuru to become a couple. I also want Sawako and Kazehaya to grow closer again. I will definitely read more of this manga, as I love(d) the anime very much. ------------------ This volume was provided to me by VIZ Media, via Edelweiss, in exchange for an honest review. Oh wow did not expect to tear up omg. I love Chizu and Ryu.
Also this volume made me like Kento a lot more. These characters have so much dimension and this series has a way of being "deep", but still remaining extremely light hearted.
I LOST IT AT RUY AND CHIZU BACKSTORY OH MY FUCKING GOD 😭😭😭😭 SHE COOKED FOR HIM BECAUSE HIS MOM WAS IT'S TOO MUCH WAY TOO MUCH MY HEART AND TEARS CAN'T STOP ACTING UP
SO many feels packed into this one and that ending was FIRE! Like :o :o :o :o :o! What will happen next?!
Though like Shiina says in the sidebar that our MC's have taken a slight back seat, I am not upset in the least about that. The backstory in this was incredible! Again, SO many feels in this and just I teared up reading more than once!
I've noticed that usually these volumes will end on a slight cliff hanger of sorts and then not pick up where it ended in the next volume. I REALLY hope this is not the case this time around. I really hope that we don't have a bunch of indecision from Chizu even though I feel that would be expected, but by golly FEELSSSSSSS!!
Prepare yourself for this one and maybe have a tissue handy to wipe those eyes. Definitely one of my recent favorite volumes!
This is the best volume since Kento joined the cast, though sadly what makes it great is that the focus shifts almost entirely away from Sawako and Kazehaya's stalled relationship to focus on Chizu and Ryu. But chibi Chizu is so adorable.
this one was focused more on chi and ryu and i loved it, we see more from their childhood and their budding friendship and now relationship maybe and it made me emotional this series 😭
Ah, the fatal move from friend-zone to romantic relationship!
Halfway through the series, and still loving it! Going full speed ahead on the Ryu-Chizuru storyline, we get an in-depth look at their past history together and see how Chizu's taking Ryu's confession from the previous volume. On the one hand, it's hard for her to accept it since she's always thought of them as friends/siblings, but at the same time now that he's confessed it's impossible for her to go back to thinking of him exactly as she did before.
(PERSONAL BACKSTORY) When I first saw this when I was much much younger, I thought that it was obvious that she should accept him and stop friendzoning him and etc., but since then I've grown up and had a kinda similar experience. Basically, I was friends with this guy in my co-op class, and since our placement was in the exact same location, we'd walk over together every day, have lunch together, and basically hang out a lot when time permitted. Now, I didn't like this guy, even though by all standards he was good-looking, nice, athletic, etc. The thing is that I wasn't attracted to him in that way and just really liked him as a friend. If I could've, I wished he would be my second brother or my cousin or something like that. Now, the problem is that he did start liking me, and even though he never confessed directly, it was pretty obvious that he liked me. After a while, it started to bother me and since I didn't like him back, I didn't know how to act so that I wouldn't accidentally encourage him or something, because I didn't want to say 'no' directly and ruin the relationship we had going. So, instead, I made the awkward mistake of starting to distance myself from him, just being rude without any reason and in general making it clear that I didn't like the way things were going. Because of this, he eventually started to dislike me two and our friendship broke off for a couple of months. Eventually, we reconciled, but by then it was high school graduation time and we haven't seen each other since.
Not an encouraging story, I know, but I use it to demonstrate how people might try supporting Chizu's confusion rather than questioning it. I get that this is a shoujo manga and so obviously there are ships to push on fangirls and we know that when two characters are really suited for each other they WILL get together, but I also think that many real-life emotions are also displayed really well in this series. From Chizu's end of things, this relates to how hard the shift is from 'friend' to 'boyfriend', and how the relationship dynamics of that work. It's not easy and it's not always successful, and many real life examples can attest to this, I'm sure.
But anyways, a nice focus for this volume all in all. Ahem, moving on, moving on!
oh my gosh so much has happened. i love ryu i just want to put that out there the way he was like ?!??! “accept it. i want to start smth new w you” got me giggling also i reallly really like kento and ayane😭 i knos they’re not endgame but he’s actually so sweet to her and ayane deserves someone who’s good to her

This is one of the most emotionally moving volumes of the series and one where you really have a pay-off for all the build-up that the slice-of-life aspects bring.
The class is back at school. While Ayane, Chizu and Sawako remain friends, they don't tell each other what has happened on the school trip as yet, which means that even Sawako realizes the awkward differences at school, especially between Chizu and Ryu. Chizu just has no idea how to handle Ryu's confession and is trying to ignore it and him. She pouts a whole lot, too.
Ayane gets to meet the Kento-girls. Who would like to welcome her among their ranks... And this leads to Ayane's eye being opened to his general kindness and appreciation of girls, he doesn't really play them, he doesn't treat them like a harem - he seems to build them up to be whatever they want to be... but on the other hand there's no girl whom he seems to treat more special and no one he can't do without. It makes Ayane feel particularly awkward that Kento seems to be looking after her (and realising she's been avoiding him), and when he tries to address this in his very low key way, she basically escapes by taking the next train, trying to avoid hearing what he's hinted at.
By far the biggest part of the volume addresses Chizu and Ryu. We've mainly had him be her supportive brother, the guy who always knew where she was when she was sad, the guy who know she loved his older brother Toru. And now Chizu (and Ryu) reflect on what made them be so close and while there is a lot of ordinary friendship involved, it is the way that Chizu understands Ryu when others only see a totally taciturn opaque guy (I loved seeing more of Chizu's and Ryu's parents).
The occasion which had the most impact was what happened when Ryu and Chizu were both in elementary school and it was winter. This event clearly changed the whole family dynamic between the two families - which we wouldn't have known because we only saw the families AFTER the event so far. I totally understand why Chizu is now so shaken from her security, which was hard earned anyway.
But Ryu is simply at the point he needs things to end as they are now. To have a chance to grow something new.

As I am reading this online, I am not sure where this volume ends... I think it does in chapter 63 maybe? Anyway, this volume focuses mostly on Ryu and Chizu. Chizu does not know how to react after Ryu's confession, and she is afraid their friendship is gone. We also get some glimpses in their past together.
Like always, it was a nice volume; only that not so cute and funny as the previous chapters. Maybe because there is almost nothing about Shouta-Sawako? Either way, each couple in this manga is lovely, and I am happy there is an entire volume related to Ryu and Chizu.
As much as I love Sawako and Kazehaya, I might love their friends even more. This time the focus is on Chizuru and Ryu. This is good because the relationship between the 2 mains isn't going anywhere right now. I loved the flashback scenes of Chizuru and Ryu growing up together.
Ryu is leading man material. He doesn’t speak much, but when he does… he does. Loved that this volume focused on him and Chizu more than any of the others.
