Where I got the book: review copy from the Historical Novel Society. This review first appeared on the HNS website.

This inspirational romance is aimed at a conservative Christian readership who appreciates a gentle love story with few surprises and a strong emphasis, on the part of the protagonists, on following God’s will in their lives. It is set on the fictional Bridal Veil resort island in Georgia in 1913, and although there are some references to current events, the romantic and spiritual elements, rather than the historical setting, take center stage.

Callie is a governess trying to choose between several options for her life, including continuing in her privileged position as a tutor who is treated like a family friend or joining her parents in Africa as a missionary. Wesley is the son of a wealthy family unsure of his own path through life, to the point that he is willing to work as a golf pro for the winter season—thus paving the way for Callie’s misunderstanding of his identity.

An insubstantial plot is contrived to throw obstacles in the path of true love, but the plot lines are too predictable to offer much entertainment. At times the action looks promising—a mysterious nanny and a family argument near the end of the novel spring to mind—but these developments fall flat due to the characters’ tendency to do the right thing and conform to a worldview that has more to do with pious hope than reality. Overall, an unexciting read.

I was excited when I received this book in the mail to review and I wasn't disappointed. It's a solid read with the familiar team of Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller. Rich in historical detail, a light thread of suspense, and solid romantic story make this third novel of the Bridal Veil Island series a perfect bookend to the first two.

To Honor & Trust has engaging characters. The villain is one you grow to love, the hero is a mixed up liar with good intentions and the heroine is an obligation-shirking missionary who has no desire to go to the missionfield. Callie is a tutor for a family on Bridal Veil Island whose love for the children she oversees is heartwarming but not honorable enough to justify her avoidance of Africa. Wesley is an affluential son with a prosperous pre-planned family future he despises and a past of failure he hides. With similar obligatory stories, both are pushed together in a series of events where they're tested, tried and ... well, that'd be a spoiler.

If you're a fan of Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller, you'll love this installment of Bridal Veil Island brides. So add this to your TBR pile of 2013!

I loved reading this book. Both Tracie and Judith did a great job ending the series. Collie and Wes were such amamzing characters. Their love stroy was very well written. Once I got started I could not put the book down, just like the first two books.

I am obviously in the minority in my 3 star rating of this novel. Although I enjoyed it this novel, once again I found myself somewhat disappointed in some aspects of the novel. I found it tiresome reading over and over about the superficiality of the wealthy people who came to Bridal Veil Island to spend the winter. It seems this theme was brought up too many times by at least 3 of the characters.
I did enjoy reading about the antics of the 3 Bridgeport children, especially the youngest child, Daisy.
As I wrote in another review, I have read dozens of novels by Tracie Peterson and enjoyed them very much---but this series is just not on the same par.

Another wonderful series by Tracie Peterson! I loved the way that it wrapped the Bridal Veil Island Series. I was a little sad that apparently, my friend Evan had apparently moved on from the island and I guess this was now years later. It was just a little sad. I tend to really enjoy meeting the characters and when I read a series kind of hope and really enjoy a connection but it was only the setting. I still enjoyed it though! It was a beautiful story and I loved the outcome.

Before I get into my review, here's the synopsis from Goodreads:

Callie DeBoyer is unsettled as she arrives at Bridal Veil Island with the Bridgeport family. She's just received a letter from her parents, missionaries in coastal Africa, stating they are in dire need of more personnel. Should Callie give up her governess job and join her parents in their important work? Is God calling her to the mission field, or does she just want to escape the emotional scars of being jilted by her former beau?

When she enrolls young Thomas Bridgeport in golf lessons, Callie meets Wesley Townsend, who urges Callie to take lessons, as well. During their time at the golf course, Callie comes to care for Wesley--until she discovers hidden secrets about his past.

Then expensive jewels go missing from various homes on the island, and suspicion is aimed in Callie's direction. As the investigation continues, Callie wonders if she should escape it all by going to Africa. After the secrets he kept about his past, will Wesley ever be a man she can honor and trust for the rest of her life?

My Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Disclaimers: I received this book for review from the publisher via Netgalley. Thanks for this opportunity.

Overview of Novel: Callie is so over guys. She is a governess and she loves her job. The family she works with treats her more like family than a servant and so she is treated very well. But Callie isn't sure what the future will hold for her. Her kids are about to outgrow a governess. She could continue working at the school or she could join her family as missionaries in Africa. All she knows is love is not in the picture. Then she meets Wesley.

Wesley is the son of a wealthy family who is vacationing on Bridal Veil Island. The only problem is that he has a string of failures following him and a father and a mother who want nothing more than to marry him off to a wealthy bride and then have him settle down in the family business. But Wesley wants more.

When he meets Callie, he is drawn to her. She thinks that he is a gardener or a employee there. She doesn't know he's wealthy or the failures of his past. He wants something more than friendship. But will the secrets of both of their pasts keep them apart.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: Judith McCoy Miller and Traci Peterson are two authors that I have read several books by. I have enjoyed every single one.

This one took awhile to capture my interest, but once it did I found the characters to be very intriguing. I loved watching them grow. Both of these characters wanted to do the right things in their lives. And yet, they both had so many fears to overcome. I loved watching them interact as friends.

They didn't really interact as more than friends which was nice in many ways. It wasn't insta-love which I'm thankful for, because I like it when relationships develop. However, I would have maybe liked a little bit more romance between them.

The focus was on the characters and their growth and I really appreciated that. The writing was excellent. Peterson and Miller have a way with words and always weave stories that suck me in. Fans of christian fiction and historical fiction, will love this book. The elements of faith are never over-powering and the details of the time period are incredible.

So why 3.5 stars? It wasn't my favorite by these authors. I've read several books by these two authors and this wasn't my favorite by them. I did, however, still really enjoy the novel. It distinguished itself above other 3 star rating books in the fact that it seemed more memorable and had more depth than most 3 star books, but it lacked that extra something to kick it up to a 4.

In Summary: Miller and Peterson have teamed up for another intriguing story about two characters trying to have the faith to dream for a future and forgive themselves or forget their pasts. Peterson and Miller always write powerful, poignant novels and this one was no different.

The Wrap-up: I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and am so glad I got to read it. Peterson and Miller are a great writing team. Their characters are always so real and the plot was intriguing. Definitely recommend this one to those who like either the historical fiction or christian fiction genre.

Love,

Original post at Black 'n Write Reviews
I was super wary about reading this book being the last of a series I thought I might have missed a whole series of explanations and events but fortunately that wasn’t the case. Set in the early 1900′s we are brought upon another season at Bridal Veil Island and into the lives of local residents; the Bridgeport family. Mr. and Mrs. Bridgeport, their children, Thomas, Lottie and Daisy, and the tutor or governess, Callie DeBoyer. We also have the introduction of the Townsend family, whom were offered an opportunity to stay at the clubhouse while the original residents took Winter refuge elsewhere.

Callie is distraught by her past and has been given much thought into how her life will play out. Stretched between numerous options of either remaining with the Bridgeport family, moving back to Chicago to teach or to move to Africa to be with her parents and help in the mission field. She has decided to let God decide on how things should go. Little did she know that her prayers would really be answered in the strangest series-of-events.

Wesley Townsend is the youngest son of the family and has a very different opinion of how he should live his life. Being part of a wealthy, textile manufacturing family, Mr. Townsend aspired that once his son had finished frivolous education in medicine he would come take the necessary position in one of the manufacturing plants. Wes had other plans. He too had skeletons in his closet gives his father notice that he will decide on he will do with his life by the end of the season at Bridal Veil.

The two aforementioned characters are brought together by a set of unprecedented events that lead them to a very quick blossoming relationship. Callie still finds it difficult to allow herself to be fully accepting of her emotions and Wes is fighting beside himself to not disclose the fact that he is a guest of Bridal Veil Island and not a employee, as he has taken up the position of golf pro. Thinking that Miss DeBoyer would find it very strange and would distance herself from him if she were to find out his “true colors” too soon.

They develop very strong feelings but events on the island start revealing the truths between them and bringing to surface the truth of other characters.

As I’m sure you may know what the book is about, it’s a lovely – or better yet – fanciful romance of two very different worlds brought together by chance and God. I am able to admit that I did manage to laugh out loud on several occasions (which I didn’t think I would) and I could feel the pain and see the faces of the little Bridgeport girls when they pouted to get their way. A very lovely story that is lovely and the romance in the words themselves is very surreal.

I would highly recommend this book since it has a bit of mystery, romance, defiance, ignorance and the fact that you don’t always expect the next move I’d say it was almost unobvious.

Tracie Peterson And Judith Miller in their new book, “To Honor and Trust” Book Three in the Bridal Veil Island series published by Bethany House brings us to Georgia in 1913.

From the back cover: Come home to magnificent Bridal Veil Island resort

Callie DeBoyer arrives at Bridal Veil Island to spend the winter working as a governess for the Bridgeport family. However, she finds she can’t fully enjoy the beautiful resort because questions about her future weigh heavily on her mind. Should she continue in this job she enjoys, or is God calling her to join her parents in their missionary work?

When she enrolls young Thomas Bridgeport in golf lessons, Callie meets instructor Wesley Townsend, who urges Callie to take lessons, as well. During their time together, Callie comes to care for Wes–until she discovers that he’s been hiding something very important from her.

Then expensive pieces go missing from various homes around the island, and suspicion is aimed in Callie’s direction. Callie wonders if this is a sign she should leave it all behind and join her parents in Africa. Considering Wesley’s deceit. will he ever be a man Callie can honor and trust for the rest of her life?

No doubt about it I like this series and I am sorry to see it end with this book. I wish there was such a place as Bridal Veil Island because it seems like such a wonderful place to visit, hang out and relax. Then we have these wonderful relationships where it is not easy between the couple due to various circumstances; in this book it is issues of deceit and trust that separate them. And then, of course, there are the robberies. “To Honor and Trust” is a marvelous love story all wrapped up in an adventure. Ms. Peterson and Ms. Miller really know how to weave a story that entertains and brings you history as well. Tracie Peterson And Judith Miller have written a well done novel that I recommend highly.

Callie Deboyer is employed by the Bridgeport family as a tutor for their children. She is spending the winter at Bridal Veil Island with the family and should have plenty of time to enjoy herself. Her goal: make some decisions about her future. Mrs. Bridgeport's goal: find a husband for Callie. The problem: Callie doesn't want a husband.

Since Callie's fiance left her to marry another woman, she has found it difficult to trust men and has decided she is better off without one. Besides, she has far too much to think about this winter without a man to complicate things. While she is happy as a tutor to the Bridgeport family, she has been offered a teaching position in Chicago and her parents, missionaries in Africa, would also like her to join them. She is praying about what God wants her to do, but hasn't yet found clarity.

Mrs. Bridgeport has arranged for her son, Thomas and Callie to participate in tennis and golf lessons for the season. Callie enjoys spending time with the unpretentious golf instructor and he readily joins her and the children on various outings. They grow to care for each other, but when Callie discovers that Wesley has been deceiving her, will she be able to forgive him?

Wesley has a few problems of his own. His hard-to-please father has his own list of expectations for Wesley's life, but they hardly match Wesley's aspirations. Will they be able to resolve their issues or will there forever be tension between them? What is Wesley supposed to be doing with his life? Has he wasted his education and his father's investments?

Mrs. Murphy, the unkempt new employee arrives at the Bridgeport residence and assumes her responsibilities as nanny. She seems kind enough, but her puzzling displays of strange behavior have left Callie with a little concern. Can Mrs. Murphy be trusted? Her recommendation from a family friend was glowing, but her demeanor hardly seems the sort Mrs. Winslow would have allowed in her home.

When the families on the island begin to find themselves the victims of a string of burglaries and thefts, the indulgent atmosphere quickly changes to one of alarm. Who is behind the robberies? Will Callie be able to clear her name as suspicion is placed on her?

I thoroughly enjoyed and wholeheartedly recommend this book by Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller. The characters are engaging and the storyline kept my interest well into the evening. Not once did I find myself skipping ahead. The historical setting was easy to picture. The dialogue was clever and realistic and Callie's relationship with Wesley kept me hoping they would resolve their issues and find their happy ending. A truly enjoyable read!

I had a hard time getting into this book. I think it was mainly due to the fact I have been reading a lot of Amish/Mennonite books lately and this is not one of those. I put the book down for a few days, came back and restarted it and I could not put it down. I loved the play between the main characters. I also liked how there was a blurring of "well to do" versus "tutor" lines. I also liked the this book was very heavy into trusting God and listening to what His will is for our lives. I also liked the goofiness of the new nanny, I knew she was not as she seems but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. She was like my crazy Aunt Brenda, who forgets a lot and can't seem to keep her stories straight, but is still lovable.

Callie is working as a tutor for her grandmothers friends the Bridgeport's, where she is treated like on of the family and not a servant. She has grown up with money until her parents sold everything and moved to Africa to be missionaries. Callie's heart has been broken by her former fiance and she is contemplating her future; stay as the Bridgeport's tutor until all the children go off to boarding school, return to the school in Boston where she formerly taught or move to Africa and be a missionary teacher with her parents. Her only choice she will never do, get married, having ones heart broken hurts too much and she will never let that happen again.

Wesley Townsend is trying to escape his families demands for him to enter the family's running of their textile mills, their relentless matchmaking to marry him off and their demand that he grow up and forget all about his medical education. Wesley volunteers and the golf pro and Bridal Veil Island and meets Callie there. He is smitten with the young lady but also does not want to come out and tell her that he is from a wealthy family.

Both of these characters have painful pasts they are trying to forget, class standings they do not want to follow, and futrues they are unsure of. What transpires in this novel is a wonderful story of healing, love and coming to terms with ones past, present and future. I highly recommend this novel to everyone, it is a good clean loves story based on Christian standards.

Our book review today is of a story set in 1913 on Bridal Veil Island, Georgia, the winter retreat of the prosperous, privileged, and/or hopefully prosperous. It's the place where debutantes "come out," formal and costume parties abound, and financial conversations float around businessmen at every occasion.

Callie Deboyer's parents are gone on a mission to Africa, and she accepted the position of tutor to family friends Luther and Eunice Bridgeport's three children. Callie sincerely hopes the new nanny, Mrs. Murphy, will be all the Bridgeports want and need for the youngsters. Between caring for the children before the new nanny arrived, her tutoring duties, and Mrs. Bridgeport's desire for Callie to be a part of their family, attending social functions with them, she is far busier than she desires.

Mrs. Bridgeport has decided Callie needs to get over a two-timing former fiance' by finding a new one. Callie doesn't want to offend her friend and employer, but she has sworn off men. She attends the masquerade, bridge meets, and formal dinners with the Bridgeports, but with the greatest reluctance.

Wesley Townsend, on the other hand, would love to have something to do other than following his parents, particularly his father, to social events. Wesley's father wants him to enter the family business to manage one of their plants, like his brothers do. They'd even like for him to marry one of the other businessmen's daughters to cement loans to build the business.

Granted, Wesley doesn't want to practice his physician career any more. But he most certainly doesn't want to manage one of his father's plants. He volunteers to replace the island's missing golf pro. It's there that he meets Callie as she brings the Bridgeport's son for lessons.

Things get awkward when the tennis pro decides Callie is fair game, things begin disappearing from everyone's cottage except the Bridgeports, and Wesley begins teaching the children about island flora and fauna.

This story is based in Georgia in 1913. Callie Deboyer is a tutor for the Bridgeport family that spends their winters at Bridal Veil Georgia vacation establishment. Bridal Veil is for wealthy families. There are many staff that see that all the needs of the guests are met, along with many recreational activities to do on the island.
The Bridgeport family has 3 children vacationing with them this year. While getting the Bridgeport son to his tennis and golf lessons, Callie meets 2 gentlemen. 1 is rather straightforward and tries to impress Callie. The other man is more impressive to Callie with his sincere personality and kindness. Callie comes to have feelings for 1 of the men.
Throughout her time on Bridal Veil Island, Callie is struggling with where God is leading her life. Her parents are missionaries in Africa and encouraging her to join them. Callie also has received an offer from a school in Chicago to teach. She also doesn't want to leave the Bridgeport family - as they are like family to her.
As time moves on, word comes from the Bridgeport family staff at home that there is terrible flooding and they need to get there to take care of things. As the family is preparing to leave the island, one of the girls gets hurt and has to spend time in the hospital. Things don't look good for her recovery, and the family's trip home is delayed. This delay gives Callie a more clear picture of what God has planned for her life and where He is leading her.
I love that these books are set in the 1900's but as I read them, I feel that the story could be taking place today. I love the story and the characters in the book.
Although this is the 3rd book in the series, I didn't feel like I jumped in at the end - I feel like each book has its own characters and story, with the main setting (Bridal Veil Island) as the common theme.
Thanks to Bethany House Publishers for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

To Honor and Trust is the third book in the Bridal Veil Island series, I haven’t read the first two books in this series, but each individual book was written as a stand-alone by the authors.

Callie Deboyer has been a tutor of the Bridgeport’s children for many years. She has enjoyed her time with the family where she is treated more like a family member than an employee and dearly loves the children. She wonders, though, if she should stay with the Bridgeport’s or choose to accept a teaching job offered at Hull House in Chicago, or to join her parents as a missionary in Africa.

Wesley Townsend, the son of a wealthy Massachusetts textile mill owner wants to escape the pressures placed on him by his family and society. His father has mapped out his future, a future he doesn’t desire. While hoping to distance himself from his overbearing family, Wesley volunteers to act as club golf pro in place of the missing instructor.

When Wesley and Callie meet they are immediately drawn to each other. How will Callie feel when she discovers the truth about Wesley's background? What will Wesley think when Callie is held as a suspect during a robbery investigation? Will he walk away believing her guilty, or will he fight to prove her innocent?

Fans of Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller will find much to hold their attention as they read To Honor and Trust- -from the interesting characters to the budding romance between Callie and Wes to the mystery surrounding the missing jewels, you’ll not want to put this one down.

To Honor and Trust is the third book in The Bridal Veil Island Series written by Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller. Callie DeBoyer is a governess for The Bridgeport family and has come with them to Bridal Veil Island. While there she receives a letter from her parents in Africa as missionaries asking for her help. Callie is torn on what to do and her reasons for doing it. Callie signs up Thomas for golf lessons and is encouraged by the teacher to enroll too. As she takes lessons she starts to have feelings for the instructor. Soon expensive things go missing on the island from different homes and things are pointing in Callie's direction. Will she go to Africa to escape this persecution?

To Honor and Trust maybe the third book in this series but its the first one I read. When I first requested this book from Bethany House I didn't realize that there were two previous books in the series until after the fact. I have had the pleasure of reading books by Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller separately and was so excited to read one they wrote together. This story has suspense, romance, and comedy. I found myself laughing and crying throughout this book. These authors intertwined their writing styles to give readers one fluid novel. I loved that it is one story with two authors. The characters are great in this story. I enjoyed all of them. As I stated I hadn't read the first two books in this series and I don't feel like I missed anything. I plan on reading the first two books but I really felt it could be read as a stand alone. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Historical Christian Fiction, you will not be disappointed! I am excited to read more books written by these two authors together! They ROCK! I give this book 4.5 STARS.

The Bridal Veil Island series comes to an end with this latest title by best-selling writers Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller. It is now 1913 and the resort is well-established as a place where the wealthy spend their winters enjoying a whirl of parties and other leisure activities. Mrs. Bridgeport encourages Callie to attend many of these pursuits, in the hope that the younger woman will catch the eye of one of the vacationing guests. The reader learns immediately that Wes belongs to one of well-to-do families but, since he volunteers to be the golf pro position for the season, Callie believes he is one of Bridal Veil’s many staff members.

The historical details included in To Honor and Trust are accurate and the characters of Callie and Wes likeable. If a book must have a hero, so it must also have a villain. I was immediately suspicious of one character, but admit to being a little slow in piecing together the hints that identified her true identity. Although this is the final chapter of the trilogy, reading the first two books is not a necessity. They are tied together only by the setting of Bridal Veil Island, which is a fictional version of Jekyll Island off the coast of Georgia. In its heyday, the exclusive Jekyll Island Club was the winter vacation location for wealthy Americans families such as the Vanderbilts, Pulitzers and Morgans. Sadly, the Great Depression and World War II were both significant blows to the club; the 1942 season was its last.

Thank you to Bethany House for my free copy of To Honor and Trust, which I received in exchange for an honest review.

To Honor and To Trust by Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller is a heartwarming, historical novel. While the book is part of the Bridal Veil Island series, it is not necessary to read others in the series to enjoy this book.

Set 1913, on a island off the coast of South Carolina, To Honor and to Trust follows whip-smart, sweet Callie Deboyer. Acting as governess for the Bridgeport family, Callie is at a crossroads. Mrs, Bridgeport has become a surrogate mother to Callie, and wants to see her married. Miss Deboyer has no intention of giving her heart to another man. She is unsure if God is calling her to teach or to join her parents doing mission work in Africa.

While wintering on Bridal Veil, Callie and her charges form a close relationship with Wesley. He loves to teach the children about the native flora and fauna, and he is young Thomas' golf instructor. Callie finds herself drawn to Wesley, despite her vow not to give her heart away. Wesley is also hiding secrets from his past that could erode Callie's trust.

Perhaps my favorite thing about this book is Callie's character development. The book is set in a time where social standing and a strong marriage prospects were the cultural concerns. Callie dares reject that for a life of service and education. She is strong, with a beautiful spirit. She is also vulnerable and sweet.

My only complaint about this book is that it is a bit formulaic and predictable. Still, the authors use emotion and faith to weave a gorgeous, rich story.

Disclaimer: I was gifted a copy of this book for review, however all opinions are my own.

Title: To Honor and Trust (Bridal Veil Island)

Authors: Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller

Date I Finished Reading: March 13,2013

My Rating: 5/5

Once you have been hurt, it can sometimes be very hard to forgive, and to trust again. Callie knows this to be very true in her own life. She was once hurt by a man she loved, and now guards her heart against that ever happening again. However, Mr. and Mrs. Bridgeport, her employers we treat her as family, are convinced to help Callie find a suitable husband. Callie is able to dodge their plans, but not without finding love for herself along the way. But should she really trust Wesley? Can she? Or will he break her heart as well? And with so many different paths and choices, is this God’s plan for her life?

This book ties together many qualities to paint a wonderful picture. Romance, mystery, humor, and history are mixed together in a charming, entertaining, and engaging way, resulting in a very enjoyable read. I was quickly pulled into the plot of this book, becoming attached to the characters, who were well written. I loved the setting of the story as well, one that is a bit more unique and original.

I really do not have any complaints whatsoever about this book, so I can honestly say that I would recommend it to you, if you are anything like me in the fact that you enjoy a good book that captures your attention until the very end.

Note: I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. However, my opinions are my own.

I LOVED this book! After reading another book in this series and i loved this one just as much as the first one i had read. This series is a well loved one of mine and i am sure it will be for you too! I would recammened this book to those that enjoy Christian fiction.
