Paranormal entities. Demonic possessions. Or is it madness? When newly engaged Michelle and Samantha move into an old house, Michelle starts experiencing disturbing events... rogue reflections in mirrors, strange apparitions, and an eerie voice only she can hear. Samantha doesn't believe in ghosts, but the alternative might be even more terrifying in this hauntingly paranoid thriller from writer Stephanie Phillips (Butcher of Paris) and artist Mann House (Witchblade).
This was such a unique and beautifully illustrated possession story. Honestly, my only criticism was that I wanted more!
Michelle and Sam move into a new house to start their life together, but something is wrong. In the mirror, Michelle sees a reflection, but it's not her—and that's just the beginning. For how short this is, I became really attached to the characters and I wanted everything to turn out well for them. The art uses shadow and darkness to great effect and I found parts of this genuinely creepy.
The ending of the story did feel rather rushed, and I really wished the creators had more time and space to tell the full story. It could have easily taken up five times the amount of pages and I would have devoured every one.
My thanks to the publisher for my copy of this one to read and review.
I really liked this short little horror graphic novel! I read a digital copy provided by the publisher, and am glad I had a chance to check it out.
This book collects 4 issues of a comic about Michelle and Sam, two folks in a relationship who've just moved into a new house where weird stuff starts happening. The characters were interesting enough, and the spooky stuff picks up right away in the first issue - I loved that I didn't have to wait! The art was really well done, and the spookier ones especially were a lot of fun to look at.
There was some dialogue that I didn't feel was really fitting to how people really speak, and that pulled me out of reading a couple times - that said, this is totally a preferential thing, and not something every reader may agree with. The rest of the story was pretty good, I love twists and turns to my fiction and it didn't disappoint in that department!
I do wish we'd gotten a bit more backstory in the sense of "why" rather than just "what" - but I'm assuming/hoping there may be more issues in the future that clarify this? I'd be interested in finding out more about the past situation (I want to avoid spoilers by mentioning specifically what happened in the past, but it seemed creepy and tragic and I want more of it!).
Overall, a pretty quick & enjoyable little spooky read! 3.5 stars rounded up.
Well...talk about anti-climactic. I loved the first three chapters, but chapter four was just incredibly disappointing. It rushed through everything and didn't really wrap things up well at all. Will there be more? I don't know. It could end here, but they definitely could write more and make it better again. Please have more coming. I expected so much more out of this.
