Mary of Plymouth

Rate this book
MY NAME IS MARY, and I am setting down all these things about our people here in this new world, hoping some day to send to my dear friend, Hannah, who lives in Scrooby, England, what may really come to be a story, even though the writer of it is only sixteen years old, having lived in Plymouth since the day our company landed from the Mayflower in 1620, more than eleven years ago. So begins the compelling and historically-accurate Mary of Plymouth, the tale of sixteen-year-old Mary, who sailed with over a hundred Pilgrims on the Mayflower to establish a colony in America.

I read this fictionalized story of Mary who came to America on the Mayflower. It was written a long time ago. I couldn't believe how my girls sat and listened to me read this Old English. They even asked me to "read history".

I usually don't like children's historical fiction, but this was well-written and stuck to the society realistically.

I love this series. It describes American history as lived by an astute child. Even though I've read quite a bit about Plymouth, I learned some things from this little book. (I prefer the original editions. If I remember, I'll add it to the list of editions for this title.)

I had to read this book for school, so I wouldn't
have chosen to read this book. But it turned out
to be okay.
