A survey of the best-known monsters of movies from the nineteenth century to the present, including discussions of the folklore and fiction that contributed to their creation and development.
I really like this book on horror monsters from chapter one on. Come to me to the theater, man made monsters, self man monsters, the human fiend, back from the dead things from another world and an appendix with films. This classification definitely makes sense, the photos and movie stills were outstanding and the read was very atmospheric. All the major movies in one single book .Highly recommended!
Okay for a introduction to classic monster movies for children. Primarily of interest are the Universal and Hammer studios entries in the genre. In the text there are some inaccuracies and certain films and areas just brushed over. However...if you have a preteen or teenager in search of knowledge of classic monster movies, then it is not a bad place to start.
A nice little overview of the 5 major genres of monster films, the legends/sightings they are based on, and the major pictures in each genre as of the book's publication in the '70s. Makes me want to go watch the original King Kong again.
This book was an awesome read when I was a kid. It really freshened up an brought the history of the early Hollywood movies into the 70s. I read it so many times, I still retain all of the facts and trivia to this day.
A nice little introduction to classic monster films, with many fun still photographs and obscure facts. It's broken down into five logical categories and led me to look for several films with which I had been unfamiliar but subsequently enjoyed. It's a short, quick book, but fun and worthwhile.
