A great guide to help one write their resume. Although I think the examples were a bit too chunky for an entry level applicant or maybe it's a cultural difference because in my country attaching a photo to the resume is a plus and sometimes required by the company.

Great collection of resumes and why they are broken down is explained quite well. I'm sure the 9th Edition is a lot better than the 8th, which was totally worthless.

Not a bad book to use for job hunting back in 90s or early 2000s. I don't think it's held up well and is probably pretty outdated nowadays (2015).

average

the book is pretty average. it covers the basics. However, I would not recommend it to someone who just found himself in the job market.

If you’re in the middle of a job search or just want to polish your resume and cover letter, this set of books gives you simple steps to help make your essential career documents stand out above the rest. Updated for 2013, the newly revised 10th editions emphasize the internet’s essential role in one’s job search, and what that means for today’s job candidates who apply for positions electronically. Both books provide strategies for crafting your documents along with tips for your job search and a plethora of examples to peruse. Beyond resumes and cover letters, you’ll read information about developing your personal brand and marketing it with social media. Avoid the digital black hole, and push through the first round of computer gatekeepers to get your documents into the hands of a person. These books could help you get the next job of your dreams.

Knock em Dead Resumes by Martin Yate- though a short read only 129 pages the author offered a concise and thorough exploration of the subject. He offers suggestions on first writing your base resume and how to expand it from there depending on the job your looking for or how your own situation or skill set has changed. The reader is offered samples and very precise examples every step of the way.
Yates has written several books on the subject of Resumes and job hunting with all of them getting good reviews. I would recommend this book and plan to now use it as a source book through the rest of my working career.

This was incredibly useful in helping me to focus my resume. The questions and worksheets allowed me to produce a lot of notes and realize assets I hadn't even considered. While not all of it ended up in the resume (obviously), I feel like it has also prepared me to better answer questions in interviews as well. The multitude of examples in the back of the book gave me a lot of options to peruse and helped me figure out how to best present myself and my "brand" to future employers. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is job hunting or just wanting to refresh their resume.

I'm learning that I can put quotes from collegues, co-workers and etc into parts of my resuem. a summary of skills is good and that career objectives can be vague or more specific. I learned how to be more presice from this book. It also gave me insights to help others when I saw there resume's. I would totally recommend this book to anyone needing some assiting in polishing their resume/cover letters.

My biggest complaint about this book is that it keeps referring you to his website; on the website they no longer offer the free examples, they just try to sell you resume writing services! Isn't this at cross- purposes? If the book was good you wouldn't have to purchase the services, which are not cheap either- Hundreds of dollars. Just do the work and create your own résumé!

This is a book that I picked up when I was in job search, and now use in my day to day work life. There are excellent examples for resume writing, which have been most helpful for me when I assist individuals who have found themselves looking for employment in new fields.
