I really like Susan Jeffer's style of writing: it's down-to-earth, fun, like a wise older sister telling me there are things I might want to do differently. I didn't like this as much as Feel the fear but do it anyway, but it is still worth reading and keeping handy. There really aren't too many things reminding us to take things a bit lighter, and with this Jeffers is nowhere near today's shallow surface level "lightness", but something way more grounded.
Ah, it is quite tragic to admit my soft spot for self helpy shlock. But the depths of January need EMPHATICALLY positive books to counteract the gloom! Yes! Yes, they do! With dubious retellings of 'Eastern' saws and occasional CAPS LOCK ATTACKS and particularly a lot of Capitalisation of Important Concepts. Like, you know, Spirituality.
The trouble is I have a sneaking idea that this kind of pink enthusiasm may be required to offset my natural misanthropic cynicism.
This book was a God send when i went through my cancer journey. It kept me positive and got me through. I would like to read more books from this author.
There are many ways a book finds you. And it is always at the right time, even when it feels like it's not the book for you.
This book found me through a recommendation from a friend. I started and thought it was an ok, pleasant read but not much to write home about.
Then I came to the section on the "land of tears" and here was an explanation of the pain and anguish within me since my Mother passed away. How cathartic. How healing. I cried, joyously. Thank you Susan Jeffers and thank you to my friend for giving me the gift of healing by way of this lovely book.
I'm generally skeptical and a little impatient with the somewhat tiresome/unhelpful "be positive" stuff spouted in self-help books.
And there were definitely a few things that I was hesitant about in this book: a) the use of capital letters to emphasise a point b) the advice to listen to your intuition (when one's intuition could be badly flawed for a number of reasons including being brought up in a "less-than-ideal" environment) c) it talks too much about grand designs and that everything happens for a reason (falls prey to our desire to give meaning to things when there is none)
It's a shame because I thought the author's book "feel the fear and do it anyway" was actually reasonably helpful when I read it a few years' ago. And some of the points made do make sense.
I'm giving it two stars because I like the quote by Thomas F Crum that the author included in the book: "Instead of seeing the rug being pulled from under us, we can learn to dance on a shifting carpet."
I read this book a few years ago and decided to read it again. I really enjoy Susan Jeffers, Ph.D style of writing. Let me share a great quote from her book: NO MATTER WHAT LIFE DECIDES TO HAND ME, I'LL HANDLE IT. That is such a positive affirmation. This book is healing, uplifting and inspirational. It's a winner.
Starting on Chapter 10: "When we focus on abundance, our lives feel abundant; when we focus on lack, our lives feel lacking. It is simply a matter of focus." "It's not that beauty does not exist in our world, it's that we seldom seem to notice." I am NOT a victim. Thank you for being my friend, even if it's only on this website. Gotta love this author, Susan Jeffers, PhD
I read this book after Feel the Fear and do it Any Way. I found it just as good and uplifting. Even though, I usually give away the books after reading them. I keep Susan Jeffers books because I know that I will go back to them.
Susan has a beautiful way of looking at everything in life :) This is a book worth taking notes from and is full of easy tools to put in place. I may even give Tai Chi a go...
Susan tegeleb just otse lugejaga, ta õpetab just lugejat elu kergemalt võtma.
Muutub lihtsalt see kuidas me neid edaspidi seedime.
Lemmik tsitaadid raamatust:
-Astarius Reiki-Om"
"Vaimne areng ei ole sihtpunkt. See on igavene õppimise, avardumise, uurimise ja avastamise protsess. Seega, kui te keskendute eesmärgile, on teie tähelepanu valele asjale suunatud. "
"Kui teised püüavad teile oma tahet peale suruda, ärge asuge kaitsepositsioonile. Öelge lihtsalt: "Tänan, et jagasid minuga oma mõtteid," ning siis tehke edasi nii, nagu teie arvates on õige. Vahel nõuab see suurt julgust, kuid TEHKE HIRMUST HOOLIMATA NII, NAGU TEILE TUNDUB ÕIGE!"

End the Struggle and Dance with Life is a book about how to succeed – not in the business world but in life. It will probably not cure you of major depression or any other serious mental illness, but it just might, if you want it to, cure you of boredom, pervasive bad moods, or general funk.
The methods Susan Jeffers recommends for doing this mostly have to do with your Spiritual life. She recommends steps such as letting go of an addiction to control and letting go of the “shoulds” in your life so that comparing what your life is like to what you think it should be like does not get you down.
She suggests many tools for getting to where you want to be – everything from simple affirmations and posting inspirational quotes throughout your house where you can see them to Transcendental Meditation, Tai Chi, studying the Tao, and other New Age practices. She suggests that you don’t have to do all these things, but that you should experiment and find what works best for you and focus on that.
What a brilliant book to have read this year, 2020. I took my time with it, dipping into it once a week or so while sitting outside in the morning sunshine with a nice cup of coffee. Susan Jeffers wrote with such simplicity, clarity and positivity in a way that makes her advice so doable and attractive. She has a way of making all problems, the little boring daily ones and the huge insurmountable scary ones seem completely approachable. I have learned so many coping skills and picked up brilliant quotes and encouragements with this wonderful book. This crazy year would have had me in a state of despair and panic if it weren't for her calm encouraging words of simple wisdom. I highly recommend it to anyone who has a tendency to feel immobilised in the face of uncertainty. You don't have to do everything she suggests but I am sure you will find a few things that you resonate with that will help you to move forward with more purpose.
Fantastic Book, This Is A Good Guide For Life Inspiration And Motivation For Positive Change. The Book Is Written Eloquently And Very Clearly Explain The Concepts Of Mind Psychology And The Natural Laws Of The Universe, And How Through Practical Examples We Can Apply These In Our Lives To Attain Or Desires And Goals In Life! The Wisdom Of The Book Needs To Applied Diligently And REgualrly Every Day, Then Only We Can Get The Real Benefits! I Recommend This Reading To All.
I have already read Feel the Fear and Embracing Uncertainty, both better books than this one, so I found this book repetitive. There were some nuggets of insight, but Jeffers does tend to overdo the hyperbole which makes her sound very Pollyanna-ish. Or maybe I'm just a GOW (grumpy old woman, with not so much emphasis on the 'old.')
I unabashedly love Susan Jeffers works. Some of her messages include: detach from the outcome, lighten up, your fears and self-limiting thoughts/behaviors are normal and fixable. She makes the process of creating a higher spiritual plane fun and incredibly accessible.
You don’t have to be spiritual to read this book or find some solid tips and advice in it. It may be almost 30 years old, but contains lots of thoughts valid to the busy worlds we have created for ourselves. Written in an easy to digest format, with lots of magical advice between the covers.
This book was "ok" - more suited perhaps to complete newbies in the self-development field - as there's nothing ground breaking here in my opinion - just an overly extended rehashed way of saying the same thing over and over - which pretty much can be summed up as - focus on the positive regardless the situation and be mindful of ones reaction to a stimulus which inevitably gives us control of how happy can be (or not) - yep very accurate but didn't have to be this long - seemed repetitive

Years past, an earlier title by the same author became a sort of mantra for me;and even today I allow myself to 'feel the fear and do it anyway'. With this new title readers can take that to the next level, revealing a whole new array of choices that open up when we quit struggling and start moving in the manner appropriate to our hearts desire.
That said, I did have to struggle with a whole wad of disturbing feelings when the journal I had used to take extensive notes on this book, which also contained personal notes and 3 new poems, was stolen along with my laptop. According to this kind of philosophy, something good is coming my way that this loss has made room for.Just what I need now, another identity crises.
A beautifully written book with lots of helpful information. I found this book to be much more on a spiritual level with chapters and overall in the insight of life. It provides meaning and purpose to people's lives and makes you make the most of the smallest things. By no means an instant fix for anyone feeling down or anyone suffering from mental health issues but is a great start to living a happier more satisfying life. I think everyone should read this book at some point in their life. It can help with so much!
I read this book years ago after reading Susan's "Feel the fear and do it Anyway". It's very inspiring and motivating. Kind of like waking up someone inside.
