Aggie and Ben are back with another boy-and-his-dog adventure just right for early and beginning readers.
They met and became best friends in Aggie and Ben . They learned to behave in Good Dog, Aggie . Now Aggie and Ben must conquer their fears in their third book for beginning readers. Puppy, Aggie, has to go to the vet, but it's Ben who needs to be brave as he deals with a night without his best friend. When Aggie returns home, she is unable to play. Ben must do his best to take care of her and make her feel better.
Frank W. Dormer's expressive illustrations tell the story of the special bond between a boy and his loyal pet dog. Young readers will love the continuing adventures of Aggie and Ben.
A lovely little book where the relationship between boy and dog really shine through. Language is not only easy enough for beginning readers to handle, it is used to make the boy's voice pitch perfect. The world view is that of a child rather than a grown up author. Well done.
This is a good story to explain to a young child what will happen if a pet has to go to the vet for an operation. An early reader style book, pretty simple words and about a paragraph per page broken by larger pictures.
From the pictures on the cover, my kindergartener and I thought this would be a book about a boy pretending to be a vet, and then the dog pretending to doctor the boy. Not at all. Rather, this book walks us through a young child's perspective on getting a dog spayed.
A much better sequel than the previous book, this one returns to the energetic art style and the clever easter eggs for adults. It provides a hilarious yet gentle take on going to the vet from both sides of the examination table. That sparks another praise-worthy detail of this series: while both the boy and the dog have personalities, the dog is just a dog. A very realistic dog. There is no temptation to get the dog's POV and I feel that makes this book especially strong in the kid-friendly relatability department.
This book is about Aggie the dog who has to go to the vet, this story shows students what happens at the vet. This book shows how a trip to the vet requires bravery. This book also helps children understand empathy and compassion for others. Lastly, this book helps children to conquer their fears and how they can be brave.
Aggie and Ben are great stories for sharing with young children before they read, and exceptional for new readers polishing their skills. This story, in particular, will resonate with any family who has a pet going to the vet for surgery and/or overnight. Ben is an "all kids" character who is brave (but then not), happy (but then sad), and always compassionate.

This is a good book for young readers. It has an interesting topic and teaches a bit about what to expect when an animal goes to the vet, especially for a fairly major event like getting spayed or neutered. The illustrations are cute and the narrative is simple enough to encourage beginning readers. Our girls have really enjoyed the books in this series.
What an endearing look at the bond between a boy and his dog. Visits to the vet are traumatic for pet and owner and the spading and recovery process is handled well. The illustrations are charming and I loved the use of color to highlight mood. A fabulous book for a beginning reader.
This was the first Aggie and Ben story that I read. I think that this is one of those books that will really connect with a child who has gone through the difficult time of a pet being sick and going to the vert.
Aggie the dog is going to the vet to get spayed. The little boy, her owner, wants to make sure Aggie is safe, but the vet reassures him that everything will be okay, and they can come pick her up the following day.
A young master's love and patience in waiting for his four-footed friend. Aggie is indeed the Brave -- even without the lion main cone adorning her neck, Aggie proves to be very loyal and resilient companion. Anyone who has had a canine friend will enjoy this E book by Byrne.
I really love the 3 Aggie books I have read. I think my second graders will live them too. So hard to find transitional/ easy readers with substance. I hope there are more Aggie books to come.
Three cute, easy read stories about a boy and his dog separated due to spaying and the love that follows afterwards to help her feel better. Simple illustrations to support this heart-warming book.
10/10: We love Ben and Aggie books. The reading level is so basic, the earliest reader can tackle these alone. But the stories are so beautiful. We still prefer reading these together.
