Cosa faresti se incontrassi il tuo angelo custode? Ti affideresti a lui o lo riterresti un buffone che vuole abbindolarti?
Creatura di Dio o no, Pontifex riesce davvero a cambiare la vita di Lauren che, dopo essere stata lasciata da Adam e aver tentato il suicidio, ritroverà la voglia di vivere e di amare di nuovo. Ma forse i poteri (?) di Pontifex non c'entrano davvero nulla, e la sua presenza ha rappresentato semplicemente uno stimolo per Lauren.
"– Sono maturata. Sono più sicura di me stessa. E ho trovato Drew...
– Hai trovato te stessa – mi corregge.
Questa è roba molto pesante.
– Immagino che sia merito tuo – dico.
Lui sorride. – Sarei un ipocrita a prendermi un merito che è solo tuo – dice. – Sentirti responsabile per me ti ha insegnato ad assumerti responsabilità riguardo ad altri."
"Mentre lo osservo andare via, penso a un'altra cosa che ho imparato. La felicità non arriva dal nulla, ma va conquistata con l'impegno, e gran parte di essa è proporzionale all'atteggiamento che ognuno di noi ha verso se stesso. A sweet story, especially since Andrew Matthews has the art of writing the way a teen girl would without being obnoxious in any way down to an art form. Basically, Lauren has been dumped by her boyfriend and learns to find herself again with the help of a (not very law-abiding) angel. I pick this one up every now and again; it's a good read.
