The story was interesting and also the relationship between H and h, but there was something in the whole that kept me from givving it 5 stars. Sometimes the story was told and not shown and it was too much simplified.
I absolutely LOVED this book. I didn't want it to end! This was a unique read for me.. It was so many different elements all in one story : mystery, action/adventure, romance, history... So good. I loved reading about all the ancient Egyptian historical facts, I felt like I left learning a bit of history as well. I would recommend this to anyone because it has such a broad range of genres! So glad I picked it up. Now I need to read some more from this author.. Great new find!
I decided to read this book on a whim because it popped up when I was doing a review on another book by this author. I love the careers and the names (Fox and Morgan along with the grand Fannie) chosen for the main characters. It definitely had me when I came to the generation aspect and Morgan reasons for following the information in her great-grandmothers' Journal. Added to the mystic within this book, the romance is a hot killer. No spoilers. I give a rating of 4 1/2.
Unfortunately, this outing pairing LA cop Morgan Sherburn and renowned British Egyptologist Dr. Fox Henredon on a quest to resolve a 90 year old mystery along with locating a millennia old artifact didn’t work out for this reader. This page count should’ve taken mere hours, not weeks with many reads in in-between. I could not get invested in these flat characters, which in turn didn’t excite for the romances or the quest. Rating: 2.5stars
An English Egyptologist and an American Police Detective meet in England where the detective has an ancient Egyptian papyrus she wants him to look at. Basically, he throws her out. Now this can not be the end of the story, can it?
Well of course not. The papyrus and a journal lead them on a great adventure.
I'll be very honest are rated Another one of these stories and it didn't grab me. This one grabbed me.Threw me on the floor rolled me over a couple of times And made me Laugh and cry And finish it in about six hours. Is spectacular
The story line was interesting. However the wife was annoying. She came across as a spoiled brat. Not at all as a down to earth police officer. This is the first book of Kat Le Veque's that I haven't enjoyed a main character. I've read most of her books
This is Fox story his woman is Morgan. They have a marvelous adventure. Finding artifacts in Egypt and long lost family Fox has a crazy ex girlfriend that just won't stop and creates lots of angst.
WOW!! Love knows no timeline or distance… what an epic tale!! You will really enjoy the journey in this book. The passage of time and the amazing love shown is captivating!!!Enjoy…
Rating a book is usually an easy task. Did you like it? Did you love it or hate it? What do you do when you like a storyline very much, but despise the heroine? If you're like me, you struggle with your decision.
If I were to grade based purely on the storyline, this book would get 4 stars. It's well-plotted and well-executed. Kathryn Le Veque knows how to write a story and they're always very imaginative. On the downside, she has a tendency to use unique/uncommon words that become distracting because they're overused. Case in point, she loves the word wriggle and all it's variations. I ran into wriggle in Chapter 1 and decided that rather than let it annoy me I would entertain myself by tracking how many times it was used. Since I turned it into a game, the 21 times it was used was less annoying than when I read her novel "Resurrection" where it drove me to distraction.
The hero and heroine are trademark Kathryn Le Veque. An enormous (6'7") and devastatingly handsome man and a stunningly beautiful woman. Not exactly people that the average person can identify and empathize with, but I recognized them from every Le Veque book I've read so far (5 if you're interested). Fox, our aptly named hero, was quite likeable. He is an intelligent, level-headed man who would rather reason things out than jump to conclusions or act rashly. Morgan, our heroine, starts off OK, but turns into the quintessential Ugly American when she arrives in Egypt. Oh how I grew to despise her. Fox fills the role of adult and Morgan is the petulant child with a propensity to stick her tongue out and pout whenever she's wrong - which is often. In Egypt, Fox tries to guide her regarding acceptable dress since it's a predominantly Muslim country. Morgan prefers to wear her clingy and revealing clothing and only grudgingly covers up when they venture outside. While preparing for a potentially lengthy excursion into the desert, Morgan's packing like they're going to a spa and gets angry with Fox when he tries to edit her clothing choices. He even reminds her that showering will be a luxury which she is none too pleased to hear. Because she's a brat, she insists on bringing makeup. Really. When she pops open her second soda during the first leg of their journey and he gently reminds her she might want to conserve her liquids, she ends up pouting because he's making her look stupid. Guess what, sweetheart. You are stupid! When she stomped off in to the desert in a huff (without telling anyone), I wanted Fox to just let her keep walking. Let the desert have her. Alas, he went chasing after her and apologized. Believe it or not, I'm only scratching the surface of her bad behavior. Since I hated Morgan, I was more than ready to give this book 1 star.
So what do you do when you have a story you like and a character you hate? I let the story outweigh my hatred of Morgan and settled on 3 stars. When Morgan told Fox, "Thank you for putting up with my crap," I pretended she was addressing me and let some of my anger go.
I don't believe for a second that their relationship will last. The only thing they have going for them is sexual attraction. I actually feel sorry for Fox. He will know the true meaning of "marry in haste, repent at leisure."
There must be something I like about Kathryn Le Veque because I keep reading her books. Unfortunately, there's also something about them that bugs me to the point that I can't read them one after another. I need a break before I can delve into another book with a massive (used 28 times in this book) hero and angelically beautiful woman straight out of central casting. I look forward to the day she writes about characters that don't fit this profile.
This was an alright book but it was such a snoozefest. Scenes that should take in few pages are stretched out. One of the painfully long scenes is when the ex was trying to get an appointment with Fox. It didn't need to be that long. It was so painfully repetitive.
One of the worst aspects of the books is Morgan being a cop. She seemed a bit dim. Other than displaying brute force, she showed little intelligence when it came to her job. She was supposedly a capable sargeant so I wanted to read a bit more about her abilities.
The book revolves around Morgan and Fox. Morgan hired Fox to translate a papyrus scroll she inherited from her family. She was convinced her great grandmother in Egypt while the great grandmother was looking for the tomb of Isis. They travelled to Egypt together. They were in love by this time.
There, they found the untold history of Fanny. Fanny wasn't dead. She had lived a long life. She left her husband, the great grandfather, for a new husband. She was arranged to be married with her first husband and knew that she didn't love him as a wife. She fell in love with the translator for the papyrus, who was also married at the time. They started a life together. She left her husband and he left her wife. Attempts on her life were made but they were unsuccessful. She had seventy five years of happy marriage and was able to hear her great granddaughter's voice.
Morgan was fuelled with seeing Fanny's adventure through. She found the tomb and the day after, Fanny died.
The main conflict in this book is the ex obsessing over Fox. She kept tabs on Fox' locations and actions. When Morgan married Fox, she came up with the scheme of kidnapping Morgan so Fox would turn to her for help. Morgan was capable of defending herself and the plan failed. The ex threatened them with Egyptian custom and accusing them of stealing the papyrus. Fox recorded the threats accompanied by her real thoughs as a safeguard. Nevertheless, they left the papyrus in Fanny's grave, alongside her diary.
The book ended with them attending the funeral and the reveal that they left the papyrus scroll and diary in her grave. They had detailed pictures for record but the original is buried with Fanny.
Honestly, Fanny's story was more interesting than Morgan and Fox together.

Overall this book wasn’t horrible. Quick read on an interesting topic (Egypt). My issue with this book was really the romance. The romance was cheesy at best and left me rolling my eyes during most of the book. The relationship felt forced and I just couldn’t get into it. Now the part I did enjoy was the search for the Lady of Heaven. This saved the book for me. I was invested in reading about their quest and piecing the clues together along with them. Had a few twists along the way. Definitely some weird characters. Not a lot of character development so you meet this characters but you don’t necessarily understand why they do what they do. Ending was flat.
Not the kind of book I would normally pick up to read. Read this are part of a book club so interested to see what everyone else things.
Could not get past the first few chapters. Two drop dead attractive people and every other sentence is a mention of this factor and of how he notices (and appreciates) her butt or her dimples. She's a 5' nothing, blond 'goddess' who is a cop. Yeah, sure. And the dialogue is so lame it limps. This is my first book by this author. I checked Fantastic Fiction website and see that she has more books listed than anyone I've ever seen. If this is a sample of the quality, and after listening to a few sample clips of various books on Audible I suspect it is , I shall not be exploring further.
455kb, contemporary action adventure, she is a cop, cleaning out her great grandfathers home after his death, she finds a journal from her great grandmother about a trip to Egypt in the 20's. She was thought to have died from a fever, but she may have been murdered for a mysterious papyrus that is still in the family.Clever twists and ancient mysteries abound in this deeply romantic novel set in the timeless sands of Egypt where ancient legends and modern realities collide.
5*****Contemporary/action/adventure with a strong historical flavour. This book has it all. Kathryn Le Veque has created a very unlikely pair. A man who works in a museum and a woman who is a L A cop then she sends them on a grand adventure in Egypt. There is plenty of treasure to be found in the pages of this book. I loved it. I hope there is more to come from this couple.
I cannot say enough good things about this book. I loved it. It blended history and mystery with just a touch of mythology and dreams. I would love to find more of this author's work and would also love to find this book in print to add to my library. I would definitely read it over and over again.
Her great grandmothers love of Egypt and search for Isis led her to the man that would not only help her find her answers, but her one true love. The discovery she made more than satisfied all her lifelong questions.
I was expecting a little more action towards the ending, but I stick to my earlier opinion that this is a highly enjoyable book. Great characters, a few good twists... 4.5 stars!
I didn't care for it at all. Sorry, just not for me. I did read it, although I skimmed a lot at the end just to get it over with. It was part of a collection.
