Chicago politics is a creature unto itself. I live in this city and thought I knew this city. I know a lot less than I thought I knew. This book speaks volumes.

Sort of aligned with current events in the Catholic Church. Enjoyed the story of childhood growth and how it was reflected in adulthood in the characters.

This book was given to me that has been passed around friends and family but the cover is different that what is shown here but is still the same story. With all the cases coming to light with the Catholic Church and those who had fallen victims and suffered the church has to be held accountable. Those who did the cover up and still are covering up have caused great pain in others lives. The book is good even though there is pain written. However, for those who were victims need their stories told. God is wonderful and those that did those things will have to face God one day. We just pray for the victims and their families so they can go on and deal with the aftermath & find peace within their lives.

While this book wasn't a bad read, it isn't one I plan to recommend to others. It follows the lives of a few intertwined Irish Catholic political families in Chicago. While the story has interesting elements, this book is absolutely NOT for the faint of heart, as it includes a couple of disturbing "husband beats/brutalizes wife" scenes and the cover up of a pedophile case by the Catholic Church.
