Book summary: This is an informational book about why the sun is so important. It talks about ways that the sun helps plants, animals, and humans, and also gives fun facts about the sun and gravity and ways to use the suns energy.
Grade level: 2-5
Appropriate classroom use: This is a great book to read as an opener (bell ringer) or closure to a lesson. This book tells the students all kinds of information about the sun. The students could write down on a card one or two things they learned from reading this book.
Indv. students who benefit: Students who want to learn about the sun and like elephants.
Small group use: Students can look at the back of the book where they see that there are many facts about the sun and share their favorite one with a partner.
Whole class use: This would be an appropriate book to read out loud. The kids would have lots of fun with this book.
Related books: Photosynthesis books, books about the sun, other books by Robert Wells.

This book does not talk down to children, but it is accessible and easy to understand.

WHY DO ELEPHANTS NEED THE SUN? by Robert E. Wells is another interesting Children's books/Science. Age range: 7-9 years/Grades: 2-4. Common Core Standard Teachers Guide. What an exciting and appealing introduction to the sun,its purpose,and scientific information. From Photosynthesis, to water cycle, to the sun itself,is just a few things discussed in this title. Another Standard Core for teachers. Not only educational but a fun learning tool for teachers and parents alike. A great way to learn of the sun and its purposes. The illustrations are awesome too. Received for an honest review from the publishers.

Worst title ever! This book is not about elephants, and it is confusing to read it because you are always expecting something that isn't there.

This series is an absolute favorite in our home. Robert Wells makes topics so understandable for kids and presents them in a fun way.
