Adventurer. Explorer. Vampire.

Rate this book
Life as an apex predator of the night provides many diversions, such as rescuing relatives from The Mexican-American war, attending auctions, and eating the occasional mortal. Ariane cannot forget that a shadow extends over her budding empire, however, that of her ancient madman of a sire. There will be a reckoning, and she will be ready, even if she has to scour the world from the shores of Texas to the Mediterranean sea. To slay the unkillable, one must be prepared to shed some blood, including one's own.

I still love this series!

The author can somehow make vampires seem realistically alien and the way they think and act, yet also charming and relatable. Basically, the author is really good. I guess I could compare reading this too reading a book where the main character is a wolf like in the book White fang. The book portrays a non-human predator in a way that humans can relate to and understand.
If you don't read vampire books because you think there will be silly teenage drama and lots of sexy vampire BS , then don't worry. This book is not anything like a teenage romance novel.
Also, it's interesting to experience American history casually on the side of the story.

A solid interlude

The book really deserves 4 stars but the lack of true progression is why I’m going with 3. I love the plot and the characters but despite months and years passing there was almost no real exploration of the MC abilities. She only devoured once in this book and didn’t experiment with any of the other bloodlines she has access too. It read as a filler book, still enjoyable but ultimately just entertaining fluff.

It's not often that the endless stories on RoyalRoad have an ending when it does happen it's a nice surprise.
Is this the final book? If it is then so much happens in it that it's kind of hard to follow. The MC goes to one action then another then a third. Side characters only exist for a few chapters and then disappear never to be seen again. The final battle is pretty epic but everything up to the battle drags a bit. I enjoyed the whole journey and am glad its finished.

I quite like how quickly Gilbert moves the story along. Each chapter or set of chapters completes a solid arc, and then we're suddenly thrown somewhere else. Sometimes it follows from the previous chapter, but sometimes it comes out of nowhere. For a web serial as long it is, this is a great way to keep the story going. I've been reading these books non-stop and I haven't lost the slightest bit of interest.

Great

Yet another very fun, and entertaining addition to the series as the main character continues to grow in strength, while also dealing with her own host of enemies. Even still, she continues to grow her skill set, and her experience grows as she finds herself in new situations with familiar names. Book 6 is just as enjoyable as the previous five.

I’m afraid I didn’t really like a lot of this book, I thought many of the different storylines weren’t convincing and felt ‘cobbled’ together. There were a couple of interesting incidents, which is why I nearly gave three stars, but in the end I have gone for two.
If possible I would have given 2.5 stars.
