Somebody wants Alexa O’Brien dead. A dangerous werewolf, she’s got a shady reputation due to the immense power and unbreakable bond she shares with vampire, Arys Knight. It’s a union that joins light to darkness and life to death. A bond that threatens to consume them both. As Alexa evades attempts on her life, she discovers the source of her power and the torment that lies ahead.
The bombshells keep dropping when she learns someone she believed to be long dead is very much alive. Hidden truths come to light and it’s more than some people can take. As one person walks back into her life, another walks out.
After an especially traumatic close call, Alexa is determined to make it known that she is a hunter that refuses to become the hunted. Unfortunately, the problem with enemies is that sometimes they wear the face of allies.
I am the author of the Alexa O’Brien Huntress and the Rebel Heart series. I write urban fantasy that is dark and gritty with a twist of romance and horror but which is ultimately about people in dark places discovering who they are and what they’re made of.
I’ve been writing since the age of 9 when I had a Christmas themed short story published in the local town paper. A lover of rock music, vampires and muscle cars, I’m a dreamer who always secretly wanted to be a rockstar.
I love to hear from readers so don’t hesitate to drop me a line.
3.5 to 4 stars. I have kind of a semi love/ hate going on with these books. Early on I was appreciative of the menage twist to the relationship dynamic, as opposed to the love triangle/ someone must be chosen paradigm. However, in the more recent books it seems as though the poly aspects are kind of false-faced and at least one of the parties is sort of "waiting to be chosen." The amount of angst that surrounds this ends up making it read a lot like just another love triangle, or four-angle, or is that a five-angle?
The vast majority of this book was about relationship angst, and since Alexa has many relationships there was a lot to angst over. Still a strong character trait, Alexa is as codependent as ever, believing that she must sacrifice herself for anyone and everyone in her life. When I force myself to push through the nausea inspired by that particular trope I see things beginning to develop in the long arc that suggest a plot device justification for this behavior rather than just an annoying character trait designed to create tension and drama. That slight hint of a deeper meaning will hold my attention for a while longer.
The non-relationship book arc story was slow to develop in this installment, but when it climaxed it did so like a bit of a freight train. I would have enjoyed a more definitive conclusion to the conflict but I see that it is a part of the story that is going to carry into book 6. Since this book ended with loose ends but not a real cliff hanger then I won't complain too much, but I do hope the next installment moves this part of the story along a bit more quickly.
We got introduced to a new character in this book, Willow the fallen angel, that I liked quite a bit but suspect there is more to him than meets the eye. I think there is plans for a short involving him this year and I am looking forward to that.
The sparse book story arc left a lot of room for exploration of the relationships and for a significant amount of revealing of the long arc. The long arc regarding the nature of the relationship between Arys, Shaz, and Trina and what its purpose might ultimately be is engaging and will keep me coming back.
Final analysis? Although there are still things that set my teeth on edge about this series I'd be lying if I said the characters, world, and story weren't captivating. All in all it's an above average series and I consider it a find.
Shaz Shaz Shaz, oh how I hate you. Never been a big shaz fan, and frankly this book made me hate him. I hope liliah gets him in the next book! Willow can be the light that balances arys darkness way better than shaz any day. Come on lex! Forget about kale and shaz! They are nothing! Nothing I tell you!
I don't have much to say. (yea right) Just that I am happier with this book versus the last. I was still annoyed. This character who I loved because she was so strong and, although she can be pig headed, she was plain amazing. Now she is teetering on the verge of evil and it kinda sucks. I get its all part of the bond she shares with Arys but I really don't like the direction they took. Falling into darkness and recovering, great...bouncing in and out of insanity. . . it almost diminishes my love of Alexa.
Okay that turned into more of a rant than a review...sorry.
I have loved all the books in this series but with all the things going on and the changes the characters were making and the revelations that came about, this book exceeded all my expectations. She did a fantastic job and to me it was the best so far in the series and I cannot wait to see where Trina takes us in the next one.
Alexa deals with a lot in this book. She finds out right off someone has a hit out on her life and doesn't really no why or who would have done it. She has 3 attempts made on her life within 3 days. The first time she is hunting trying to satisfy her bloodlust and she winds up being hunted by a vamp. The only info she can get out of him is that a hit has been put out on her by a female vamp, she loses it and turns him to dust.
She also has to face the fact of Arys journal and all the answers that it holds. She finds out that he dreamed of her over a century ago and as a wolf blows her mind. She just can't comprehend it. She finds out the aren't soul mates but twin flames. Soul mates are two different people meant to be together, but twin flames are part of one another, created as one and split into two. Two separate beings, two separate souls and yet they are one. They rarely exist in the same lifetime, they aren't meant to. Yet if they do somehow unite, it is for a reason. She finds out Arys has looks for her ever since he started having these dreams. Because of this new information Shaz feels like Arys is meant to be with Alexa and not him even though he is her wolf mate. That Arys was meant to be hers first.
Brogan calls Alexa to tell her a werewolf has been in the shop asking about her and the owner of the Wicked Kiss. Lots of stuff that has her worried about Alexa. She has her come to the shop and tells her she is suppose to meet the werewolf at a coffee shop an hour after closing. Once Brogan discribes her and tells her some info Alexa starts putting things together and then she walks in...HER SISTER...come back from the dead after Rouls attack. Juliet is alive. She works for the FPA a government group that is against Alexa and others like her. Alexa wants to know why she never told her she was alive. Juliet says its because she trusted Roul who attack them and killed their parents. Alexa lets her have it and tells her she never knew until last year that he was the one that attacked them that he betrayed her. Things get heated. Juliet wants to know if her and Kale killed an Abigail Irving and they did but she's not admitting to it.
She gets Jez to meet her at the Wicked Kiss to let her and Kale know about her sister. Jez isn't happy she's still pissed with Kale for trying to kill her. Alexa just wants them to work it out. Kale comes in and begs Jez for her forgivness. He gets down on he's kness in front of Jez in the bar and tells her she is the sister he never had and he loves her, he know he fucked up by attacking her, that he broke her trust and he is truley sorry. She is embarrassed and forgives him. Things smooth over quicly and they drink and talk of a trip to Vegas with the 3 of them. All the sudden the door to the back opens and Shaz strodes through with her. Alexa gets sick to her stomach seeing him with her. His vampiress they were suppose to be sleeping together but that was weeks ago that he had told he that, things change. Feeling her stare Shaz met her gaze and shared a moment of horror he looked away he hadn't expected to see her there. Shaz whispered something to her and the vampiress turned toward Alexa, Shax was trying to get away without a scene. But she stopped him and slid her hand in his hair and laid one hell of a kiss on him and thats all it took to set Alexa off. She broke her glass of whiskey, jumped the table, shoved Shaz out of the way and had the bitch by the throat before she knew what was going on. Alexa's power was wild with anger wanting to kill her for the disrepect she showed in her bar with her wolf. Shaz beg her to stop, she let her power ease of her heart put not the hold on her throat, told her I don't know what you think you were doing putting on that display but I am not one you want to fuck with. I will kill you next time, this is your only warning. She stormed out with Shaz calling her name and Jez running after her. Jez caught her in the parking lot wanting to know what she had done. She had dropped all the vamps in the bar. Kale finally made it out side and told her next time direct her focus on the vamp she is pissed at the they all took a hit for the anger she was pumping out. Save them form undeserved hits in the future. In the parking lot with them is when the second hit happens... Falon shows up and tells her not to pull her powers like she did that is draws up wanted attention. Alexa tells him to piss off and leave her alone and Kale can't understand who would be stupid enough to come after her with the kind of power she has. She feels someone watching them and a shot is take and she catches the arrow inches from her chest. They don't find the shooter.
She gets a call the next day to come to Shya's. When she gets there she finds he has a werewolf that she turned. He wants to know if she wants to deal with it or want his fate left to him. She ask the guy his name, he answers Coby and he tells her he isn't ready to die. He wants help and chose to join her pack. So she takes him home to Rouls. Just as she gets settled in the 3rd hit happens a vamp sets fire to the house. Her and Coby barely make it out. Arys get there and catches the vamp but has to let him go to the cops arriving.
Things get crazy in this book. She is living with Arys with is a struggle in its own, all her clothes are gone, Coby is now having to stay with Shaz, she still has to deal with Juliet.
Arys is trying to get Alexa to work things out with Shaz but its just so far past what can just be swept under the rug. Shaz tells her he doesn't love the vamp its only about the high and it was getting back at her for sleeping with Kale. Over Shaz pisses me off big time. He is obesses with the high of the bite and Alexa and Arys both can do that for him, so she has every right to be mad. I would have killed the vamp personally. He also winds up deciding that he needs to leave to get things right with himself to be there for Alexa again, but for a werewolf mate they don't leave their mates side. I don't understand this.
Alexa spends all her time in Arys bed this book which is on fire. They passion is hot in this book. But you can tell she still want Kale and I wish she would give in. To me she needs him as much at the other 2. I like Kale. He's always at her sides. Most of the time faster than her 2 lovers. So when Shya takes Kale because of him trying to save the dreamwalker because of Alexa; Alexa takes his debt. She want let Shya kill him even thought Kale is telling her to let it happen, she refuses. Once she agrees to Shya's terms she goes to Kale and feds him like and it looks more like they are lovers than just friends to Shya. You can see the hunger in both their eyes. Kale takes off as soon as he can and avoids Alexa for days.
Alexa finds out Lilah has the hit out on her and its and all out battle between the 2 of them but bad ass werewolf comes out on top. She is a force to be reckoned with and Shya is next on her list since he tried to play her and Lilah against each other.
This is a 5 star in my eyes I love this series and am dying for the next book.

This is actually a review for Death Wish Magazine Volume 4. Sorry to post this under this entry for Ms. Lee's book, which I did not read, but it helps me keep organized if I can review all my stats and notes about what I read on Goodreads, and Death Wish Magazine is not on Goodreads.
Ok, so. Volume 4 "Resurrection." I like the springtime poem it opens with, and I appreciate the poet, Victor Julian-Henry Roberts, and their other work in this volume.
The best thing about this booklet is the layout, with lots of images and very accessible large print. However there are a few mistakes, places where the "your paragraph here" wasn't removed from the template, etc..
The worst thing was the overall quality of the poetry. Lots of slam pieces and nothing that really impressed or shook me. Lots of cliches. Some of the prose writing really needed grammatical edits. There was also no adhesion to the theme of resurrection.
Overall it's a pretty little book but nothing special.

I am not suprised about Shaz and Lex's relationship outcome in this book. They were clinging to something that no longer existed in their current reality as many things has changed since book one. I am curious about this Willow Character and hope to read more about him. I also hope Kale is ok. Onto Book 6.
I was on the edge of my seat through the whole book. This book is full of action, sexiness and awesome characters. Alexa not only has to fight the darkness inside her but all around her also. Shaz also has his own demons to fight. Arys has been keeping secrets from Alexa. So much drama and I loved it all. On to the next book.
Alexas life continues to be horrific and heart breaking as she deals with all the bad stuff life keeps throwing at her while she tries to figure out her own path in the over all scheme of things. She is one badass woman who loves and lives fiercely. Alexa and her crew keep you riveted in this amazingly constructed world. Highly recommended.
I love how the Arthur go into details of the story and loving it. This book is a five-star and I will recommend a friend to read this book. I am drowning in this book and imagine of what is going on. Pin points it was a emotional ride reading the book.
Alexa is pretty awesome. I used to like Shaz but more and more I wish they would break up. I like her with the vampire. I also love Kale and this new character, Willow.
Take this rating with a grain of salt because 1) I hate heartbreakers (and this novel is a heartbreaker) and 2) because it's a heartbreaker, I skimmed it instead of delving headlong into it as I did with the other novels.
Finally! We are back to a somewhat decent plot. After having to plow through the last book because it was a little dry, this one was a much better read. Some of it was a bit too "yank the carpet out from under the reader" for me, but I dealt with it and kept reading.
I didn't really like the new antagonist- the person, not the organization she works for. And I'm not sure if it's because it was a "yank the carpet from under the reader" moment or just because she wasn't well-rounded. She was just kind of there, when technically she wasn't even supposed to be alive.
I'm not too sure about where the plot seems to be going for the overall series, but this book was interesting enough to want me to buy the next one. I'm still wondering what happened to Kale, and overall, I'm glad that Shaz is out of the picture because his territorial wolf was really getting on my nerves.
Overall, a great read, and I will definitely be buying the next book with my birthday money.
Trina M. Lee does it again... her Alexa O'Brien Huntress series are spectacular. Death Wish did not disappoint at all! I love the love and hate story line between Alex, Shaz, Arys, and Kale. There's lots of action, drama, and love mixed in Death Wish bringing it all together to create this wonderful world that keeps you glued to your seat and face stuck in between the pages. Even after the very last page I kept wanting to turn the pages hoping more words and pages would appear :-)
If you have yet to read this series, I would definitely recommend it. I'm glad to have ran across the first book in the series and now am waiting for the next one already.
This was my favorite book of the series. The series is a bit darker than I usually read, it is never without action. I have found myself conflicted on if I like who some of the characters are. This book has shed much light on why they do what they do. I am looking forward to the next book. I anticipate more answers but I am not confident of a happy ending. I am hopeful that some things will "work out". I really enjoyed one of the new charaters and can't wait to see how his character progresses in the ever changing story.

I really enjoyed reading these books I am on #6 . The books are very fast reading I couldn't wait to read after I was away! I always hate when I read a series or a book and they end, I get caught up in my reading. I have been reading 50 years and I love it! Thanks Trina!
Another intense, edge of your seat book in this series!! It grabs ahold of you from page 1 and doesn't let go until the very end....but even then you'll be wanting more! With the many twists and turns Trina M. Lee will have you begging for more! 5 out of 5 stars for this one for sure!!
Love the Alexa O'brien huntress series! My favorite by far!! The author is so detailed in her words and descriptions I almost feel as if I'm there in the flesh!!
Love this series. I can't wait for the next book! I also look forward to the spin book on the story of "Willow". Intersting character that was introduced.
Excellent read - loved it! I think this book is a great next edition to the rest of the series. Very entertaining storyline. Can't wait to see what happens next!!!!
