The Drums of War series was a childhood favorite of mine. Good, clean historical fiction that was riveting and also entertaining while teaching me about the culture of the time period. Well written for young readers, it is highly entertaining, informative, and unabashedly patriotic. Love the stories, characters, and history in these books. Great books for the young'uns.

This book is really slow and focuses on character development for the next few books instead of making the first book interesting. The character development was really good despite the lack of anything exciting happening, but that's to be expected from a first book in a series I guess.
